most annoying trait from what i see as a millenial book girlie culture is "love of books" not as love of reading but as adoration for the physical object. an e-book, a library book or an audiobook don't have the same value because you can't display them forever for others to see. full shelves of unread titles are a symbol of status. annotating your own books is a crime. using old books in art projects like collages is guaranteed to earn you "as a reader this pains me" comments. i love buying a beautiful edition as much as anyone else but man the consumption mentality here is tiresome

hello, white tumblr user. before you is a serious post by a blogger of color about racism. if you are able to quietly reblog it without adding any bullshit, especially not anything starting with "as a white person-" you will be allowed to go free. the hardest challenge in your entire life begins now

Congrats to my 'I love you' libraries post getting to 690 notes but it's time for some actions - please fill out the above form if you have been affected by the Internet Archive's MASSIVE book lost and have a read through the larger effects of this lawsuit.

A post by The Internet Archive official Twitter account. It reads: “📚 Attention Readers & Researchers 📚 More than 500,000 books have been removed from our lending library due to the publishers' lawsuit. Have you been affected? Share your story with us and help us fight to restore access. #LetReadersRead” There is then a Google Forms link.

I haven’t seen any posts about this! But, thanks to the Internet Archive lawsuit, half a million books have been removed from their library. They are calling for people to share their experiences to help them regain access to these books, so please considering sending something in!

99% of "mysterious disappearances" esp of people in their 20s who start acting weird for 48 hours and then vanish are not mysterious, thats just when a lot of reality-obliterating mental illness tends to kick in and it's pretty easy to get a short circuit in your brain that makes you go family guy death pose in joshua tree national park. it's not any less tragic, it's just a documented phenomenon and not particularly predictable. its a big reason the medical advice is for people with a family history of schizophrenia to completely avoid weed and psychedelics. "people just go crazy sometimes" is a principle of human health that used to be a lot more accepted prior to the american midcentury and to a certain extent thats a healthier way to conceptualize and prepare for the risk, as opposed to the modern assertion that anyone acting weird is dangerous and broken forever.
