Destroy the myth that libraries are no longer relevant. If you use your library, please reblog.

If any of yโ€™all didnโ€™t know, thereโ€™s a free online library, aka

https://openlibrary.org/

and I found like, twelve ebooks Iโ€™ve been wanting to read on there, and blasted through like three of them during the course of a boring-ass shift.

Librarians rock!

I just realized today that librarians have saved the day at least 4 times in kingdoms and empires so far, here is how:

The librarian on Lantern Island (who is unnamed) encourages Bronte while she researches a way to clear her Aunt Emma from jail just as Bronte is about to give up by giving her a plate of cookies :) letting Bronte find a key piece of evidence!

The librarian on Lantern Island later finds Bronte the contact information for Ronaldo C. Torrington, leading to the reunion of Bronte's Aunt Carrie and her long-lost lover, who she marries!

Carlos, the librarian at Katherine Valley Middle School, helps Esther find the books about magic that she eventually uses to defend her school against Shadow Mages even without Spellbinding (because she is very smart, brave, and practical).

Carlos later gives Esther a stack of books about Horseshoe Island Ogres, giving her information that exposes her teacher, the malicious Mrs. Pollock, as an evil ogre and saves Esther's class from Mrs. Pollock's insidious manipulation!

Big Medias Lobbyists Have Been Running A Smear Campaign Trying To Paint The Internet Archive As A Greedy

Big Mediaโ€™s lobbyists have been running a smear campaign trying to paint the Internet Archive as a greedy big tech operation bent on stealing booksโ€”which is totally absurd. If youโ€™ve ever used the WayBack Machine, listened to their wonderful archives of live music, or checked out one of their 37 million texts, itโ€™s time to speak up. On March 20, everyone is showing their support for the Internet Archive during oral arguments.

Here's how you can help:

Battle for Libraries
Fight for the Future
Donโ€™t let libraries die. As the future goes digital, major publishers are suing to cut off librariesโ€™ defense of digital books from censorsh

The Internet Archive is our library, a massive collection of knowledge and culture accessible to anyone with an internet connection. Don't let greedy publishers burn down the next Library of Alexandria!

And if you're absolutely certain you don't use or need the Internet Archive, take a look at their projects first, you might be surprised. Those are all at risk too.

I have an assignment due on Monday (22nd), I've only done half of it so far which isn't optimal.

I'm planning on going to a library tomorrow to get more work done, plus i haven't been to libraries in the past couple years and i miss the atmosphere so much. There's a really pretty one in my city with a tree growing in the centre of the building

The assignment is made for 3 parts, i've completed the 1st part (except for adding references to the reference list), and have written a basic dot-point framework for the second part. My executive dysfunction is really holding me back though...

I really hope after handing in this assessment i can catch up on my classwork and get back on track for handing in assignments early and feeling confident academically.

Other random life things:

I've realised that coffee may be triggering headaches and sometimes migraines for me, so i'm picking up some decaf instant coffee today so i can still enjoy my iced coffees! Unfortunately the iced coffees won't be as good for my focus as the caffeine won't be there to calm my brain down... hopefully the sugar can pull through on that front.

I also had a fight with my partner this morning, which left me feeling really down . I tried to pull myself up after a couple hours of moping in bed by washing my face, curling my hair, doing skincare & makeup, getting dressed and making myself some pasta. I LOVE pasta! Def my comfort food. So i'm feeling better about that now, we're going to talk more when they get back home.

Congrats to my 'I love you' libraries post getting to 690 notes but it's time for some actions - please fill out the above form if you have been affected by the Internet Archive's MASSIVE book lost and have a read through the larger effects of this lawsuit.

A post by The Internet Archive official Twitter account. It reads: โ€œ๐Ÿ“š Attention Readers & Researchers ๐Ÿ“š More than 500,000 books have been removed from our lending library due to the publishers' lawsuit. Have you been affected? Share your story with us and help us fight to restore access. #LetReadersReadโ€ There is then a Google Forms link.

I havenโ€™t seen any posts about this! But, thanks to the Internet Archive lawsuit, half a million books have been removed from their library. They are calling for people to share their experiences to help them regain access to these books, so please considering sending something in!

And this is why I stopped reading James Patterson. Probably to the absolute glee of my school librarians, who used me and my vod as barometers and litmus tests for books.

next year james patterson is slapping his name on a book called "the secret lives of booksellers and librarians," which is real bold considering that every bookseller and librarian that i've met in my time as a bookseller and librarian absolutely loathes him. including me.

unsung benefit i think a lot of ppl are sleeping on with using the public library is that i think its a great replacement for the dopamine hit some ppl get from online shopping. it kind of fills that niche of reserving something that you then get to anticipate the arrival of and enjoy when it arrives, but without like, the waste and the money.
