Since I was on the nostalgia train: Another old thing I coloured just for the funsies of it!

A lot of sketches have been piling up since last month… on twitter

"toy soldiers"
ok I usually like my drawings to have short punchy captions but I want to s**k myself off a little here and talk about the symbolism but remember that the author is dead and buried and you can interpret this however you want
1) sugimoto
- all of his objects have to do with either death or food
- food as the opposite of death
- food (as in, eating with asirpa) reminds him that killing isn’t the only thing there is and not the only thing there is to him
is ogata’s eye food or death? who’s to say
2) yuusaku
- he has the least amount of objects representing him because we don’t really get to know him through the narrative. really all we know is that he was nice for a bit and then he died
- his things have to do with duty and family, two things he clearly considers important
- a single fried shrimp, a choice never made
- ogata plush for both naive adoration and inability to see as a person
- a bullet for. his brain
3) ogata
- childhood and again, food and death, specifically death of the family
- white lilies, flower of the innocent, wrapped in a funeral band, self-explanatory. can also mean yuusaku
- there’s a thing about his gun, but I want you to figure it out yourselves
