i must admit,

i do not know much about love.

which is why these letters sit

upon my desk, untouched.

untouched like my heart,

warded off from others.

but i knew from the start

that i could never love another.

i am not sure why

it has taken me so long to see you,

but i know that i’ve been blind,

that much, at least, is true.

for you outshine

all the stars in the sky.

i could only wish you were mine

as you set my heart alight.

so i must admit

you’ve taught me love, in some sense,

but, still now, these letters sit

on my desk, unsent
