True But Izzy Isn't Even The Only Disabled Main Character, Lucius And Spanish Jackie Are Both Also Amputees
True but Izzy isn't even the only disabled main character, Lucius and Spanish Jackie are both also amputees who are living about as happy lives as you can get as a pirate, Black Pete has a cleft palate and Ed wears a leg brace
It's good to be aware of bigotry in media but honestly I just don't think it applies here because Izzy isn't the only representation of any particular group in the show, not by a long shot
Gentle reminder;
Burying your gays as a trope doesn't apply to media where literally every character is queer and only one of them dies
That's just called regular character death

Return of detailed live action costumes aka the bane of my existence /hj

So like we already know Toh makes fun of Harry potter in a ton of ways and subverts all of its tropes but I haven't seen anyone bring up the way Toh treats magic disability Vs the way HP treats magic disability.
Specifically thinking about the fact that squibs in HP can't use magic but their whole family can and instead of being allowed into school to learn potions, astronomy, beast keeping etc etc (literally any class except charms and defense against the dark arts really) they're ostrichisised from the whole wizarding community and presumably not given any education whatsoever, not even a Muggle one. And while yeah HP treats this as tragic it also doesn't pose this treatment as wrong or smth in need of change just 'oh the poor disables are born so sad and that sucks but oops what you gonna do'.
Vs the owl house where Luz is similarly magically disabled (she literally can't do magic according to boiling isles conventions). But instead of the show going whoops guess you were born unlucky shoulda had better genes, Luz learns a different way of doing magic and while the community is shocked by this they still accept this new form of magic and allow her into their society. Hunter also falls into this, he's born a powerless witch so instead he uses a staff and artificial magic until he gets a palisman. While toh acknowledges that the world is harder for people like Luz and Hunter it doesn't frame that as the end of the conversation and instead shows that just because you can't do things like other people can doesn't mean you can't find a new way that works for you that nobody has thought of before
God I love this show
Details I noticed in my third watch through of Nimona:
(Iām so normal about this movie)

Ballisterās sword originally had a G engraved on it which has been made into a makeshift B via scratchings.
My guess is that the sword either used to be Goldenloins or his families and Ambrosius gave it to Bal at some point as kids (given that Ambrosius is the only one I can think of with a G name)
Also about the sword: people have been pointing out the religious themes (like with the T in ātrue villainā looking like a crucifix) on that note the symbol on Balās sword in this shot looks a lot like the Christian fish

Ballister literally hopped the fence and broke into the knights practice to beat up a dummy as a kid before getting tackled by a bunch of knights
I just thought he was doing an obstacle course when I saw it before but nope! This makes everything about him becoming a knight so much funnier. Also the fact they have this footage? Amazing 100% Ambrosius has it saved to tease Bal with, no way he isnāt embarrassed about that
On a sad note; dang the institute really drilled in ādo what I say, be a good kid and donāt break the rulesā cause Bal as an adult didnāt even want to break the rules when his life was on the line vs as a kid breaking and entering into an ongoing knight practice while being chased

The director asks Ambrosius for a sword during the roof scene but Ambrosius looks at her and back at Ballister before telling her she needs to get to safety
He saw how angry she looked and knew sheād try to hurt Bal so he sent her away instead

Where Nimona as Ambrosius broke the wall on the miniature of the city being foreshadowing for the end of the movie

Bal batting Nimona off when she starts mocking him for caring about what Ambrosius thinks
So clearly a recurring conversation given Balās āwhateverā gesture here lmao

Ambrosius being really timid with this crowd of people and overly polite
Heās chasing down a criminal/the love of his life and barely even says excuse me šš and he half heartedly asks them to move before immediately folding and giving an autograph, we love a man whose great at public speaking but still has social anxiety

Ambrosiusā eye roll as soon as Todd shows up
(Heās so done with him)

Toddās actual name being Thodeus
Idk why I just assumed this was a different guy the first watch through

I was gonna make everyone from a different piece of media for this but it just felt fitting to start and end with the owl house and yāknow what they deserve it
