i've spoken about his situation before, but i want to highlight my friend Mahmoud's (@mahmoudkhalafff) campaign again, as progress has continued to be fairly slow.
with the help of his college, Mahmoud was able to evacuate from Gaza alone after being displaced four times with his family. he is now in Ireland, teaching and studying to receive his PhD, and is trying to raise the necessary funds to bring the rest of his family to safety, first in Egypt, and then hopefully with him in Ireland.
the Khalaf family consists of eight members, several of whom are children. they have been displaced repeatedly and have faced unremitting danger while moving from place to place, including being trapped in a building by sniper fire and witnessing the bombing of their neighbors' house. luckily none of them have been injured (or worse), but Mahmoud fears it's only a matter of time.
over almost four months of fundraising, Mahmoud has only collected β¬17,684 out of the β¬30,000 he needs to evacuate his family. please share his posts and donate if you have the means to help him safely reunite with his loved ones as soon as possible! your help can make all the difference
(Mahmoud's campaign is #151 on @/el-shab-hussein and @/nabulsi's spreadsheet)

small horror i am today thinking about: palestinian detainee testifying that israeli soldiers were filming them on camera while torturing them (including rape)βone heard the soldier recording mention it was for ben gvir. unclear if they were directly livestreaming for him, under instructions to film from him, or were taking videos to show him later. but what a country. i can't think of a single dictatorship where the top brass was so openly implicated in crimes against humanity. they usually pretend that stuff isn't happening

twitter link to the video (in it, you can hear these fascists loudly screaming "are they white?" and "they're white, they're white! they're english!" before letting the cars pass).
remember how the american and british press stirred up an absolute panic about the non-violent, pro-palestine campus protests? how they endlessly slandered the students as antisemitic extremists, creating justification for the violent police crackdown that would soon follow?
compare that now to how they're covering (or not covering) the fascist pogroms in the UK, where, for the past few days, violent white supremacists mobs have been terrorizing muslims, migrants and other non-white communities, forming mobs to intimidate and violently attack anyone they perceive as non-white and non-British.
the hotel shown in the video above is now the second hotel housing asylum seekers that these fascist mobs have attempted to set fire to, and yet, the harshest words the majority of the UK press is willing to use to describe them, are "far-right rioters, "anti-immigration protesters" or, if you're the BBC, just "protesters."

here's from skynews (UK), with the almost comical framing of "anti-fascists (left)" vs. "people protesting"

again, if you compare that to the headlines they were running during the campus protests...

this goes beyond some racist "bias" in their reporting: you can draw a direct link here between the UK media's coverage of palestine, and the fascist mobs willing to burn asylum seekers alive.
obviously there are other factors at play, but the genocide denial, the portrayal of arabs and muslims as terrorists and antisemites (which again, gets projected onto britain's migrant population and asylum seekers as a whole), the overall dehumanization and othering of the palestinian people β all of this has been feeding into, and stoking up, the racism and islamophobia that's now boiling over, and erupting into nakedly fascist violence.
Hello, I hope you're doing well! My name is Mahmoud Abu Swierh, and I'm a 17-year-old from Gaza. The ongoing war has devastated my city, destroyed my school, and made daily life incredibly challenging. Despite these hardships, I'm determined to continue my education and build a better future. I've been given a chance to study abroad, but I need help to cover the costs of leaving Gaza, as well as living expenses and other essentials abroad once the crossing opens. If you can, please consider donating or sharing, your kindness can truly make a difference. Thank you. https://gofund.me/bd3ccf0b
I can spread awareness but I am in no position to donate I am so sorry.
Sorry for the tags, trying to reach more people!
SLOWING CAMPAIGN: Evacuate Shaima and Muhammad's Sons
Hi all, I want to thank you all for your support for Shaima and Muhammad's family after the hours-long stagnation their campaign experienced yesterday morning! Our task now is to raise enough funds for Shaima's and Muhammad's eldest sons, Yazid (18 years old) and Ahmed (17 years old), respectively.
Shaima and Muhammad's family is verified by @/el-shab-hussein on the vetted spreadsheet as family number 260, so please don't hesitate to donate and help!

Wafaa tells me that Ahmed is an extremely talented guitar player. The photo on the left is taken the last time all three families were together for a celebration, and Ahmed and his friends performed well-known songs for everyone. Ahmed also loves soccer, he was on his high school's soccer team and could be often seen on the playground or in the neighborhood streets with his friends practicing. When he is not out doing jobs around the camp to earn money to pay for expensive bags of flour now during the invasion, Ahmed still tries to play soccer every once in a while with the kids at the camp. He tells Wafaa he has lost so many of his teammates and friends to this war, including his best friend Mahmoud, who he saw bloody and was unable to save.
Yazid, Shaima's eldest son, had been planning his wedding with their neighbor's daughter, with whom he had been together with for years. Wafaa tells me the family would tease him for sending her flowers and writing her love letters all the time. They had made their wedding plans and invited their guests, planning to marry after their first year in university, but the invasion thwarted both their educations and their happy union. The father of Yazid's fiancee was martyred in the war when he was out searching for food for the family, and Yazid now spends his days split between the two families, splitting his pay to provide for both his family and hers.
I implore you to take this plea extremely seriously, the family is still living in al-Mawasi camp in Khan Younis, and was at ground zero when the camp massacre occurred July 13th. The eldest sons mostly work in transporting aid, and Ahmed specifically has been targeted by iof drones before, and sustained injuries in his leg (which thankfully has now healed with no further infections).
The donations have slowed down drastically in the past few hours, in the past hour Shaima and Muhammad's family has only received 7 donations, the most recent one is from more than 10 minutes ago.
Please continue donating what you can spare, we need to raise the amount to register the eldest sons for evacuation by the end of this week at the very latest. Check out the Magikarp plush giveaway for donors, which only has 41 entries so far.
Currently $32,124 raised of $40,000 end-of-week goal, that means we need to raise $7,876 more within the next three days. Please help by reblogging and donating!
