đŁ What to Read After Watching: Nimona đïž
đ©· I stumbled upon She-Ra and the Princesses of Power from creator, showrunner, and executive producer ND Stevenson in 2018 and never looked back. It was one of the few projects, let alone animations, I ever watched that so blatantly flipped the script by highlighting inclusivity without needing to say it outright. Queerness was simply a way of human existence; representation mattered but didn't need to be outrightly defined. Again, ND Stevenson has flipped the script, this time by bringing his webcomic from page to screen. The story became an outlet for Stevenson to express his own nonconforming gender identity. The shape-shifting title character, Nimona, is a stunning example of unapologetic transness and gender fluidity, again, without needing to say it outright. If you haven't watched it yet, Nimona is now available on Netflix, with the original comic available online and in stores.
đ©· If you HAVE seen it and adored Nimonia's punk-pop chaos, don't worry; there's plenty more where that came from! Here are a few options you should consider reading after watching Nimona!
đ©· The Girl From the Sea by Molly Knox Ostertag đ©· Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker đ©· CosmoKnights by Hannah Templer đ©· The Night Eaters by Marjorie Liu đ©· Lumberjanes by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Gus Allen, and ND Stevenson đ©· Save Yourself! by Bones Leopard đ©· Kim Reaper by Sarah Graley đ©· Moonstruck by Grace Ellis and Shae Beagle đ©· Snapdragon by Kat Leyh

Just so I can look at this later
Things todayâs taught me:
Download fics you really like because you never know when youâll need them
Support and donate to sites you use a lot (ao3 is a knee-jerk reach daily for me and basically the whole internet and I will be donating to them next time that season rolls around as I hope many others are)
Ao3 volunteers are under appreciated without question for all they do for this site
Please show the site some love once itâs back up and thank the vols too
Also yeah in case you didn't know, ao3 is currently down because of a DDoS attack which is where someone deliberately overwhelms the servers by sending so many requests that it crashes. And each time you try to refresh ao3, it sends a request. So given that theyre already drowning under an insane number of requests, maybe lay off the page-refreshers for a while yeah? Yeah. đâ€ïž
(And BIG THANK YOU TO THE AO3 VOLUNTEER TEAM WHOVE BEEN WORKING SO HARD ON FIXING THIS!!! YOURE DOING A GREAT JOB AND WE ARE APPRECIATIVE!)
(And to the hackers: I hope you don't poop for a week.)
GOOD OMENS SEASON TWO SPOILERS
Ok Iâm gonna be deeply ranting and analyzing the kiss scene (mostly just the kiss itself) because OH MY GOSH THERES SO MUCH TOO IT
First of all hereâs a gif of it:

And also I don't have a gif of it but when Crowley releases Aziraphale, what struck me was that he didnât make them burst apart he gently and almost sadly just stepped back. And then watched. Now. One of the biggest things Iâve been thinking about in this (because Iâve been obsessively watching it over and over) is how Crowley is kissing him. Itâs a long kiss. Itâs not sensual. Itâs not eating each others faces. Itâs intimate and very romantic. Crowley missed Aziraphales lips by a hair and is slightly kissing his chin. Crowley holds him there as they sway back and forth slightly. I canât see if his eyes are open or not. But the thing that strikes me about this is how much all of Crowleyâs body language and everything just scream about how much he doesnât want to move. He finally kissed his angel and he wants to stay pressed up against him, finally locked in the embrace he didnât realize he needed for so long. He just stays there. He doesnât kiss deeper. He just stays pressed against him, not wanting to deal with how Aziraphale will look at him afterwards.
then he has to break apart. He does it gently, but suddenly. Like he had to force himself but doesnât want to . He wanted to stay, but he knows he canât. So he steps back with his heart breaking more than he thought possible.
now onto Aziraphale.
Aziraphale is shocked. His eyes go from open to closed to open to closed. He leans back so slightly you almost canât see it. He doesnât seem to know how to feel.
And then his hands go around Crowley. It almost seems like itâs an unconscious motion, given how he looks after they break apart. It looks like for a split second, he lets himself melt into Crowley, as his hand wraps around his back and slides across it. But then he hesitates again abd takes his hands away. He thinks he canât melt into Crowley. But there was the one moment where he broke.
after they break apart, Aziraphale looks shocked, upset, desperate, and to me, even a little disgusted. Probably because he doesnât know how to deal with it. He licks his lips and moves his mouth around abd seems uncomfortable. But then after Crowley leaves he presses a hand to his mouth. He holds it for a second and starts crying. He realized he liked how it felt. He realizes everything heâs been missing. He loved the feeling of Crowleyâs lips on his. Most importantly, he loves crowley.
on the topic of people hating on Aziraphale and saying the metatron did something to him, I disagree. This seems completely in character fir Aziraphale. Heâs not an arsehole, heâs in conflict. He thinks heâs not allowed to love Crowley. I get him.
ok Thanks for coming to my Ted talk hehe bye
(spoilers for the Barbie movie)
As a trans-masc non-binary person, I saw myself in Allan. Iâm a boy but not a Ken, I'm Ken-like but not quite.

Allanâs role of being awkward, unsure and a little out of his element but still trying to help the Barbies through the chaos and events caused by the Kens, is how I feel as a trans-masc person who is still trying to advocate for women and discuss the issues they face.
I don't identify as a woman anymore but I still grew up as a girl, I lived as a young woman for 14 years, and people continue to be misogynistic towards me when they think I am one-- customers will talk to my male coworkers instead of me, when Iâm the person with the answers
I wasnât expecting to see myself, in terms of gender, in the character often described as Kenâs boyfriend, though it is said in a more playful, joking way rather than any attempt at representation. Iâm gay and this version of Allan is definitely queer as well. Yet, thatâs a separate story which has already been written, hereâs an excellent article about that. [LINK]
Allan isnât Ken, and he isnât Barbie either. Allan is simply Allan, an idea with both masc and femme traits. He doesnât fit into anything specific, he just is. Allan can wear Kenâs clothes but also Barbieâs pink jumpsuit-- but when he's not doing that undercover mission with the Barbies, we only ever see him wearing his own clothes. A set of clothes worn only by him, that iconic striped outfit that is signature to the real Allan doll.
Additionally, notice the horse patch on the front of his shirt, he never changed his clothes unlike the rest of the Kens when they discovered the patriarchy and a new version of masculinity, a toxic and destructive one. Allan only added something to his clothes to âfit inâ or act as if he did, but he hated what the Kens did to Barbieland. He also wasn't brainwashed and never acted upon those destructive abilities that were laid out for him. He could've just joined the Kens and broke stuff and drank copious amounts of "brewskis" but he didn't.
Allan is different and it's constantly stated, "there's only one Allan" in this world of Kens (and Barbies).
I will never be Ken nor will I ever be a Barbie again, Iâm not happy in either. Iâve tried both, neither is my style (or title). I wear Kenâs clothes as well as Barbieâs, and sometimes I wear Allanâs.
But, I like Allanâs clothes best, they fit me well.
