Abominable (Dreamworks and Pearl studios movie)

Abominable is a heartwarming movie about three young people who travel across China to help Everest the yeti get home! There are G/T elements in it (not going to reveal spoilers in this post), and some of the themes feel G/T related!! I loved the characters, and I liked that the character growth felt real! Also, there is some size-changing magic in it! I wanted to end this post with a quote from the movie. 😁

"I'm so used to looking down on the world, it's amazing how small one feels just by looking up." ~ Mr. Burnish.

Day 16: Celebrating

Turning Red (Pixar movie)

I love the movie Turning Red, and it has become one of my favourite movies ever!! There are G/T elements in it (not going to reveal spoilers in this post), and there are a LOT of good G/T themes in this film!! This movie is mainly about the feeling of belonging, and I could really relate to the characters! In the movie, some of the characters learn how to celebrate who they are instead of hiding parts of themselves, which was inspiring to me!! The conflict and the character development felt real and nuanced, and I loved watching this movie! 😁

Day 14: Instrument

"Love Song" Sara Barielles music video

I really love Sara Barielles' songs!! Her music video for "Love Song" has G/T stuff, and it looks like it was inspired by the Borrowers series!! I like it when people use G/T as a metaphor for emotions or other things, and the music video really suits the lyrics of her song! It's a cool video! Sara Barielles is an amazing lyricist, and her songs are incredible and deep!! 😁

Day 13: Banter

The Unstoppable Wasp (Marvel series)

The Unstoppable Wasp series is my favourite Marvel series, and it is well-written and inspiring!! Nadia is the daughter of Hank Pym (aka. Ant Man) and the adopted daughter of Janet Van Dyne (aka. The Wasp), and she reverse-engineered Pym's shrinking Pym Particles to escape the Red Room! I love that the story is character driven, and the writer Jeremy Whitley (who has written four volumes of the series) writes about the characters in a nuanced and deep way. I've really enjoyed reading this series, and the banter in it is GOLD!! Nadia is one of the kindest and most resilient characters I've ever seen, and she is an inspiration to me!! I started reading issues of this series because of Gurihiru's beautiful art and Nadia's G/T-related superpowers, and I'm so glad I found it!! 😁

Day 12: Video Games

Mia's Big Adventure (video game by Kutoka Interactive)

When I saw that today's prompt was "video games", it made me think of the old video game series "Mia's Big Adventure"! They're cute educational video games for children, and I used to love playing them when I was a kid! The hero of the game is Mia the mouse, and she follows the player's cursor for direction (breaking the 4th wall). It reminds me of the Borrowers series, it has a lot of inventions and gadgets, and it involves a lot of puzzle-solving mini-games! I remember that I really liked the time travel adventure game (I may rewatch some of the cutscenes on YouTube later)! 😁

Day 11: Melancholy

Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke

Dragon Rider is one of my favourite books, and it has a special place in my heart!! My favourite character is Twigleg the homunculus (tiny, artificial person), and he's a very melancholic person. I feel like I can really relate to Twigleg! I read this book when I was a kid, and I loved it!! I could go on and on talking about this book (and I may write some mini essays about Dragon Rider later if I feel like it)!

I'd recommend this book to any G/T fan! By the way, I'd love to talk about Dragon Rider if anyone's interested in chatting! 😁

Day 10: Ancient

The Spiderwick Chronicles by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black

The Spiderwick Chronicles is an amazing book series, and the book's lore of the Faerie world feels ancient and mysterious. The books have magical creatures of many different sizes, and I've always had a soft spot for the Brownie Thimbletack! My favourite of the main three human characters was Mallory: she's so cool, and her fencing skills are awesome (not to mention useful)! The books are really well-written, but short. The movie adaptation of The Spiderwick Chronicles was pretty good and I liked it, but the books have much more detail.

Day 9: Rainy Day

The Secret World of Arrietty (movie adaptation by Studio Ghibli)

I love the Arrietty Studio Ghibli movie!!!! I know, I know, everyone in the G/T community probably knows about this movie or has watched it, but I couldn't resist recommending it! I'd recommend this movie to anyone, and I have recommended it to several of my friends who are not G/T fans! The rain scene is beautiful, along with the rest of this film!! 😁

There's a two volume film comic adaptation of the Arrietty Studio Ghibli movie, which uses high quality images of the film in a manga format (the film comic adaptation is by VIZ Media and Studio Ghibli Library)! It's a really good quality film comic book, and includes all of the dialogue from the movie! ❤️

Day 8: Dream

The Dreamland Chronicles by Scott Christian Sava and his team

The Dreamland Chronicles is a beautiful and epic adventure series, and it has several G/T characters!! It has fairies, rock giants, Cyclopes, and a giant dragon! Kiwi the fairy is one of my favourite characters in the series, and she's brave, loyal, and fierce!! The original version of the comic series has a unique look to it because the author and his team created the comic pages using 3D CGI technology! I'd recommend this book series to anyone, and I loved the original 3D art!!

The Dreamland Chronicles was originally posted as a daily webcomic. Although the website still exists, the author archived the pages so the original 3D version of the series is no longer visible to viewers. However, the author ensured that readers could still read the whole series! The author made ALL of his books available for anyone to download by putting a Dropbox link in a tweet in 2020. The same Dropbox link is also in the comment section under the new The Dreamland Chronicles Page 02 on the website (I've included inline links in this post).

On the Dreamland Chronicles website, the author is working with the artist Tracy Bailey to retell the entire series with 2D art! It is currently on hiatus, but the 2D version of the series may continue one day.

Day 7: Thief

The Butter Thief by Rad Sechrist (in the anthology "Explorer: The Mystery Boxes")

The Butter Thief is a short story, and it is included in the graphic novel anthology "Explorer: The Mystery Boxes". It's a sweet and exciting G/T adventure, and it's pretty gentle! The art style is lovely!! The way the story is drawn reminds me of storyboards! It also reminds me of the Borrowers series, but it involves magic!

Day 6: AU

Bigfoot's a Hoax by nightmares06 and PL1

The fanfic Bigfoot's a Hoax is written by @nightmares06 and @neonthewrite, and it is based on the Supernatural TV show and the characters from @neonthewrite 's book Bowman of Wellwood. The fanfic is an AU where these two worlds merge, and it's really fun to watch!

I love this fanfic, and I have reread it SO many times!!!! The characters are amazing, and it is really well-written!! Scenes from this fic live in my head! The size difference interactions are GOLD in this story!! Before I read this fic, I wasn't usually into reading stories with giants (I read more stories with Borrowers and fairies and other smols), but this fic made me fall in love with it!

I love this fanfic and the BA fanfic series SO much!! It is really well-written, and it inspires me!! The size difference interactions are fantastic, and I'd recommend this series to any G/T fan! As for how this fanfic relates to today's prompt... I think that you all can guess. I mean, how else is Sam going to reunite with his brother after being shrunk by a curse and spending years apart from him? 😁

Day 4: Stargazing

Family Ties (Brothers Adopted series) by nightmares06 and PL1

The fanfic Family Ties is written by @nightmares06 and @neonthewrite, and it is based on the Supernatural TV show, the Borrowers book series, and the characters from @neonthewrite 's book Bowman of Wellwood. Today's prompt reminded me of the last chapter of the fic.

I love this story!! All of the size difference interactions are GOLD!! I love that the characters feel real and nuanced, and this story alone reveals a lot about them! I highly recommend the Brothers Apart fanfic series and all of the related fanfics because of the writing quality and the heart put into the stories!! This is an amazing story, and it is very heartwarming AFTER the characters get past the fun misunderstandings!

You're going about your day, and bump into someone on the street. You turn to say something but they make some snotty comment and you get into a bit of a confrontation with them. Nothing serious but enough that it leaves you in a foul mood.

What a cold personality. Who raised someone who could be that rude to a stranger? Maybe you fantasize a little about them tripping into a puddle. You definitely replay that argument over in your head a few times, wishing you could replay that moment and say that banger of a comeback you thought of just a smidge too late.
