YEEEEAAAAHHHH SERINAAAAAAA!!!
@ my followers who don't know what Serina is, PLEASE READ THIS BLOG.
It's one of the best specbio projects out there, created by Sheather -one of the Golden Age masters. Serina is a world populated only by the descendants of the domestic canary (and a few other organisms like guppies, snails, ants, sunflowers, bamboo, algae, etc). The project digs deeply into the various unique niches of the world and the organisms that evolve to fill them. It's a journey of nearly three hundred million years thus far, and an absolute masterclass in specbio as a genre and an art form.
The vast majority of the blog is nature-documentarian in style, overviewing the physiology and evolutionary history of the various clades on the planet and the roles they fill across deep time. However, in the Ultimocene chapter, things take a turn for the profound as intelligent life evolves multiple times. I'm not kidding when I tell you that the saga of the rise and fall of intelligence on Serina is genuinely one of the most compelling and emotionally engaging stories I have read in years, and I NEED more people to experience this.
I'll wrap things up with this:
Any Serina: A Natural History of the World of Birds, fans here ?
Anyone. Hello… h
had a fucking hilarious dream that tumblr replaced the "block" function with the far funnier "glock" function, which did the exact same thing except whenever anyone blocked you a random bullet hole, like a png of a bullet hole, would appear on your blog. discourse blogs were unreadable bc you'd go to the page and the sheer amount of bullet hole pngs stacked over the blogs obscured everything. I woke myself up laughing
hey, so I saw on your bullet hole post you commenting on how difficult the amount of notifications was making things- you can stop notifications from one post specifically without it affecting any others! If you go into the three dots at the upper right corner, there’s an option to turn off notifications for that post specifically!
Sorry if you already know this and I’m being annoying, but I just thought I’d offer the help in case you needed it
I appreciate the tip, anon, but unfortunately that only mutes push notifications, not my tumblr notifications (at least on mobile). I don't get push notifs for tumblr in the first place, so all it does for me is give me the option to UNmute them and oh tor no thank you—
OP here. Yes, very salient points, thank you cyle! Absolutely didn't intend for the post to read as minimizing or making light of the very real problems we have here, but then again I didn't anticipate this would make it outside the small circle of people who know me and understand my intentions. (ngl after this started really getting around I was anxious about exactly that for days.) It was a clever pun cooked up by my subconscious, that's all.
Obviously I don't expect this to be legitimately implemented, even as an April Fool's one-off. There are numerous practical problems standing in the way. But someone in the notes suggested tribbles as an alternative, and I LOVE that, so y'know... maybe getting whacked by that particular Apollonian dodgeball wouldn't be so bad.
