a major issue with acotar is that consistency and logic are sacrificed for dramatics in the story. having this occasionally isn’t a bad thing because who doesn’t love some good drama? but then you have moments like tarquin, the high lord of the SUMMER COURT, telling feyre not to give him orders while they’re in the summer court and having them respond with feyre being the high lady of the night court. like, it’s clear this scene is as written that way because of dramatics’ sake, but it just makes feysand look really entitled and illogical because they’re not even in the night court.

then you have nesta’s constant “redemption arc” where it spans every. single. book in the series because she has to redeem herself in every SINGLE book even though she did that in the last one. her arc is so inconsistent because the writing keeps her redemption open-ended in case the decision is made to use it again for more feyre and elain angst. like it’s so dumb. she’s already done more than so many others in the series, and she’s still not forgiven by much of the fandom when she has really not done many bad things.

also that scene in acosf where nesta scared tamlin, and the writing vilifies him for pointing out that they’re trespassing on his land and using it as meeting grounds without his permission. like there’s these whole dramatics to show how much nesta cares about feyre by having her “stand up to” tamlin, but she’s literally not in the right lmao. like there’s no world where she’s the justified one in this scenario.

and don’t even get me STARTED on the hl meeting. which is pretty much just this in a nutshell. i mean, the whole magic oath thing where they won’t harm each other lest they die, then having the ic be the ones to attack people both times? so dumb.

there’s countless instances of this throughout the book where decent, consistent writing is sacrificed in the name of dramatics that just make the main characters look like assholes. half the reasons people hate the ic wouldn’t exist if those scenes had been written logically and within reason.

if u think u ate because u posted an anti tamlin or nesta take and called them “tampon” or “nestle” i’m here to let u know u did not in fact eat, consume, devour or digest in any capacity

Watch me lose my mind over the High Lords meeting — PART II

PART I

Tamlin asks Kallias a good question: How can he stomach to work with Rhysand after what he's done. Viviane tells them that they are trying to decide if they will work with Rhysand after all. (She's back in character).

Than Rhysand proceeds by defending himself. When he could have just acknowledged that he did had a involvement in that masacree and that he did it to save his Court. And Kallias would have understood. But no, Rhysand had to play the innocent card. Again.

Kallias proceeds by telling Rhysand that he did had an involvement, that he did stood by Amarantha's side while she ordered the masacree. And Rhysand says: "I tried."It's not enough to try when after you did nothing to help the Winter Court. I've seen someone attacking Kallias for these scene and I disagree, Kallias was right and he and Viviane don't have to forgive Rhysand.

Then Kallias says to Rhysand that what he did wasn't enough and that he cannot forgive Rhysand just because he remembers them. And, surprisingly, a mature response from Rhysand: No, it doesn't. Than, again mature response, Viviane says everything, that Rhysand tried. They all have mature responses. They are all mature.

Now, remember that age is meant to show how is more wise? Like the older you are, the wiser and more patience you are? Well, Beron — the oldest High Lord alive, you know that one who rules the Autumn Court with an iron fist and is better at keeping his people in check than Rhysand —preceeds by making a useless, childish remark. And this is, considering what we've seen of Beron by now, what we heard and what we saw after the High Lord meeting, out of character for Beron.

He was meant to be those annoying, patient and cunning old bastard. And this is kinda the vibe we get from him in all the books. Except the High Lord meeting.

Is he drunk?

High?

Something...?

Because here he acts not only unprofessional, but also, childish. In all his involvement in the HL meeting by now he us childish.

Feyre has to voice that she believes him. That's not the point, Feyre. I get it, you wanted Rhysie to feel better. But there was no reason for you to say that out loud.

Than Beron voices the Clare problem. And he is right. I guess he is no longer drunk or high?

Rhysand does not address this problem – wonderful – you do want to write Beron a letter with all the subjects you don't want to talk about so he can know how to put you in a corner? You know, a letter just in case his old age has an impact on Beron and he doesn't remember anymore?

Now Beron is once again acting childish. Just forget all I said there. I get what he's trying to say — he is kinda backing Kallias in this, like he says we do not believe you— but there are polite ways for this to be talked about. Stop insulting people. It's your hobby, ok, but not at a political meeting.

I feel like they all forget they're at a political meeting discussion about a war.

Rhysand explains what happened. And Feyre is like: poor Rhysie. No poor kids, no poor parents, poor Rhysie.

Than Tamlin says that the only person who knows this version is Rhysie and that he doesn't believe him — and that's a legitimate thing to think about. Why would he believe Rhysie when Rhysie was so busy making everyone believe he was happy with Amarantha killing those kids.

And Rhysie swers it's true. On Feyre's life. You don't have your own life to swear to? Why Feyre's life? (Tamlin rolled his eyes, and I do the same now.)

All right, they finally moved on at an important subject (I'm not saying that wasn't important, just not when you may have a spy with you).

Kallias asks Tamlin why is he at the HL meeting. Tamlin explains that he is there to help them. And Cassian says: Bullshit. You really couldn't find any other way of saying I don't believe you? You had to be that rude?

Look, Casaian, how Thesan formulated the same thing? Very polite. You know what? I'm sure now: Thesan is the only grown-up here. He is the adult.

Tamlin has a good point at first. They all knew he didn't stand tyranty and that he was a good man. Did they really thought one woman is enough to turn him from that? And that's such a good point and a good to say. Even at a political meeting, he is trying to explain to them that Feyre is not enough to turn him from what he belived.

But you know what's not fitting to do at a political meeting? Yeah, to insult your posibile ally. As Tamlin did when talking about Rhysie being Amarantha's lover. And now Feyre being his lover. And it's a good point and something he could say because he doesn't have to convince Rhysie to fight against Hybern. But you are not there to fight with your ex and her new trashy boyfriend.

And Mor process by snnaping at Tamlin. Which is just rude. Couldn't you be more polite?

Than Tamlin makes a good point: do they really want another war after how the last turned out?

And Kallias finally asks the big question we've been avoiding for a really long time: Is Tamlin their ally or enemy? And while in a very blunt way, he manages to do that without insulting Tamlin.

I think I'm going to make a list from the post capable diplomat between the High Lords at the end of this. Like... Yeah, it's on my list of possible careers, diplomacy I mean, and while I'm not an expert in this yet, I do believe I understand a bit more about diplomacy than some people *cough*Rhysie*cough* knows.
