Yesterday, at lunch, my friends and I managed to convince this guy that Elon Musk owned the school email and he worked there. It was funny but also kind of worrying that he thinks it’s true.

I usually try to keep this blog pretty discourse free, but in light of recent… events… I’m getting kind of tired of staying quiet. so, here goes! I know this is just another long post on the discourse pile, but please try to hear me out? thank you <3
the deceit discourse really needs to stop. maybe not completely, but it needs to calm down a significant amount. it’s been almost 11 months since deceit was first introduced, and the discourse is still prevailing - and pretty loudly, too. and I don’t think anyone, regardless of their stance, wants to keep having the same argument every time deceit shows up in a video. I don’t know about you, but the idea of that sounds… exhausting.
it’s not that this is getting out of hand, it is already out of hand and has been for some time. people have already stepped away from the fandom because of how frequently this topic comes up, and more are likely to follow if nothing changes.
it’s fine not to like deceit. he reminds some people of certain abusive or manipulative people of their past, and thus makes them uncomfortable. you don’t have to understand it completely, but you should definitely respect it. it’s also fine if you do like deceit. villains exist for a reason, they make the story interesting, challenge the main characters, and people can like a villain without necessarily condoning their actions. liking or not liking deceit doesn’t make you a bad person!
but the point isn’t whether or not you like deceit. the point is that this discourse, the exact same discourse, keeps happening. it just feels like it’s going in circles, people getting worked up on both sides, bringing up the same arguments over and over. “why are people triggered by deceit? he’s not that bad” “why do people like sympathetic deceit? how could you condone his behaviour like that?” there’s nothing wrong with the first parts of these questions, but it’s not okay to guilt people and that’s a major part of the discourse that really needs to go.
look, there’s always going to be different interpretations about the series, some of which aren’t going to be the same as yours. even thomas and joan have said, when sharing their reasonings behind certain things that happened in different episodes, that their interpretations aren’t meant to invalidate anyone else’s. you interpreted canon differently to them? that’s fine! you wanna throw canon out the window and write your own version, that’s okay too!! but this fandom doesn’t belong to only you. it’s a shared space, and you need to be mindful of that. the point is that there is no ‘correct’ interpretation, and both sides deserve a space in the fandom that makes them feel comfortable without fear of being attack for just speaking their mind.
if you’re uncomfortable about or get triggered by deceit, please take care of yourselves! most people tag deceit posts with ‘#tw deceit’ or ‘#ts deceit’, plus there’s the blog @isdeceitinthevideo which you can check before you watch the episode! for everyone else, make sure to tag your posts so that people who don’t want to see it don’t have to!
also, I’ve seen some people who like deceit say that they don’t really like that the deceit tag gets blocked up with hate / discourse all the time, so might I suggest that the tag ‘#deceit sanders’ be a tag that can be free of that? that way people who don’t want to see deceit can still block it, but people who are just looking for deceit content don’t have to be flooded with other stuff?
this isn’t directed at anyone in particular, by the way! but by the same merit, don’t just assume that you’re not a part of the problem. check your own behaviour carefully and make sure that you’re not contributing to it.
so… the next time deceit appears in an episode, can we just… leave the discourse behind? please? because I think this has been weighing the fandom down for long enough.
this is why i love Tumblr

no.

An oc of mine, the daughter of Stony. I might possibly go into some one-shots and stories with her.
- Age: 16 - Has got pop’s (Steve’s) eyes - Has got dad’s (Tony’s) hair and brains - Photographic memory - Yes the logo on her hoodie is a combo of both her dad’s logos - Fav food: potato salad sandwiches - Fav colour: purple - Was made in a lab by hydra - Technically the biological daughter of Steve and Tony - Also a superhero - Weapon: Bo staff - Super suit inspired by pirates - Really insecure that she is not good enough to be Steve and Tony’s daughter - Took months before she thought she could call them dad and poppa
