He Wouldve Been Deaf And Lost His Leg
He would’ve been deaf and lost his leg😭

he wouldn't be able to do construction anymore 😭 he'd get to take the full role of grandpa, though. just sitting on that porch and doing woodworking 😭 he wouldn't be able to hear the guitar 😭😭😭😭

I forgot about the Nora scene!! What I love about that scene is it really shows how Ellie can use the immunity to her advantage. She’s cornered and her only options are surrender or jump in. And she just jumps- and it makes her look crazy to everyone else.
we shake hands hehe!
truly, truly. same thing at Silver Lake, too. she was gonna get cut to pieces, but threw David off guard. I wonder if they'll play more on her ability to use her immunity to her advantage. like it throws everyone off enough because she is the only immune person. and for Nora, it was either get shot or just jump in after her. and no one else is gonna go after her because there's spores everywhere, and they don't have gas masks at the ready (I'm assuming). so by the time they do get down there, she's gone and Nora's dead. it's gonna throw everyone off their rocker
Soooo I have another useless analysis here about the hospital scene in the show, there are alot of micro expressions that are so so good, so here we go also excuse the variantion in gif quality.
"Cordyceps grow inside the brain",
We see him visibly stressed when Marlene talks about surgery, she doesnt answer him and continues at her own pace and he knows immidiately something is up ,after Marlene tells him about the procedure and that there could be a cure, he just stumbles back, you would think that he's thinking of the possibility of a cure but you can see him search through his brain how this would go, how this procedure could hurt Ellie, and you can feel his heart just stop when he looks up at her, " Cordyceps grow inside the brain" and he says it in such a soft way that you can sense how terrified he is, you can see the alarms go off in his mind. He becomes angry and stressed, he gets up towards Marlene and they knock him down,
"Please, you don't understand", when have we ever seen this man beg like that, and you can see his heart drop, because he is completely alone and his kid is getting ready for surgery, a surgery that will kill her, and he's helpless there, after resisting for so long he finally allowed himself to care for her, and now she's being ripped away from him in the same brutal way like Sarah, by authority figures. This scene reminds me of the scene when Tess's bite is revealed, we see him become paralyzed there too, he is faced with the death of yet another person, and his hands are tied, its him against a hospital full of armed men.
"Im sorry, I have no other choice" , "I do"
and she knows he's threating them, I do, a promise, a promise that if he doesn't get her out of there safe no one will.
Can you hear my heart breaking??, So many emotions on his face, telling Marlene " You'll regret this", "don't make me do this", it's the pleading face he's made before.
Now look how he's looking around, he's scanning the whole place infront of him, desperately looking for a way to escape? he's thinking of a plan, anything but having to resort to killing.
and you can still see him look around in the beginning of the gif, but then you can see him give up, he stumbles down the stairs, knowing that there is no other way than killing everyone in his path, he's getting further and further away from Ellie and it's either now or never, and you can see him come to terms with it in the next gif,
Now what I love so much about the way they play with lightening in this show is you can see the light in shining in his eyes, revealing the glassy teary eyes in the beginning, it makes him look vulnerable, you can see that it affects him, ofcourse the fact that Ellie is facing death upstairs but also the fact that he's gonna have to resort to violence once again, but I bet he was having flashbacks too, to Sarah? to those feelings he had after her death, to Tess, who gave him one job, and now he's failing her too. and the camera turns to his left and the light literally leaves his eyes, and you can see those shadows around his eyes, and you can see the second the switch flips in his head, and all he can think about is Ellie
And now anger has taken over, every emotion in his head is turned off, the same thing that happened when Tess told him "save who you can save", you see him go from stressed to stoic before he grabs Ellie, this is his coping mechanism after Sarahs death, even then we see him go out of his body, he disociates when he's faced with the death of a loved person, he shuts off and goes into autopilot. (putting these next to each other just breaks my heart, everytime he decides to love someone he loses them)
This one I just added because Pedros face just gave me chills here, because even though we saw him being all cold and badass previously this one's different, you can see how furious he is, but good god also the way the camera moves and the light has left his eyes, Also idk if this is gonna be coherent but the fact that he also just looks younger in this gives me the feeling that this is not just for Ellie, he is redeeming himself for Sarah too. Gah I cannot gush enough about this particular scene because look at the acting?! the way he lifts the gun, idk it is so so perfect, the terrifying look in his eyes, and the music that plays at this part, and you're immidiately like "oh shit", in the following scene they did the same with the light and it makes him being checked out so much more believable, there is nothing in his head but to save Ellie, he eliminates everyone, even if they give themselves up,
Okay but is that blood from his ears from the hit to the head or to the bomb? This man will not get up for weeks in Jackson, he is gonna be limping around, he has an unhealed stab wound, a fucked up hand he refuses to let rest, now a concussion and he'd be lucky not to have his hearing more fucked up, he is gonna be in a hell of a lot of chronic pain, once the adrenaline wears off.
he doesnt tremble in the slightest, we saw how terrified he was when the child clicker made her way into the truck, how he was trembling. This time all that is gone, he is done, last time he wasn't able to defend himself when Sarah was taken from him, this time he aint letting anyone take her. But the fact that he's not trembeling this time is so interesting, there is anger brewing in him, last time his kid was taken by authority figures , now again, are those two memories uniting in his head? The anger of having to go through this once again.
The slow motion in the hall was so anxiety inducing, you know when you get closer to something you don't wanna see and your legs feel like heavy led, he's petrified of what could be behind those doors, but this is also the first moment we see the light shine in his eyes, and we can see the tears, and its the same face he made when he saw an injured Sarah, because this situation is too familiar to him, he's been there before,
Im gonna scream, because look at how he looks at the floor before he goes in, and he very slowly lifts his eyes, and he momentarily stops, taken aback from the scene he's seeing, because she's unconsious and he has no idea if she's still alive or not, look at how terrified he looks, his heart drops with the sight of another kid looking dead
at last she's back with him and look at how he's taking in her face, his face just softens and he looks at her for any sign of injuries, maybe something that stayed with him from the time he found her in Silver lake, he slightly smiles, so much love and adoration in his eyes for her, he has her, she's safe.
and then it dawns on him, what just happened, and what could still happen, there not out yet, you can see how terrified he is, he completely checked out during the shootings. We saw how tortured he and Tess were about their time in the Boston group, we never got the details because they never wanted to even mention it, this is gonna be another weight on his shoulders, another thing he has to live with,
What I find so smart for his character to do at this moment is that the moment he sees Marlene he immidiately looks around if there are more people, because ofcourse he has his gun at the ready in his other hand, but if there are more people its no use, he has already analyzed the side of the car before going that direction, he analyzes the place before turning his attention to Marlene,
This sequence of events just hurts my heart, because he knows that without missing a beat that Ellie would sacrifice herself, because she has been through hell and seen too much, too many deaths, and she would want their deaths to mean something, that all that suffering would mean something, that it would've all not been in vain. And you can see him struggle so hard with that fact, he remembers their conversation on the roof. But the moment Marlene gets closer, thats all gone, he outweighs it in his mind, and he sacrifices it all for her safety, and the light is once again literally gone from his eyes, we can see when he shuts off and when the emotions come back to him with how smart they use the lightining to their advantage, the complete and utter hatred he looks at Marlene is so good, he knows Ellie deserves a choice, but he also knows that she's burdened with guilt about her immunity. but also he cant see another person go, another person being taken away from him, she had been through hell and she deserved to live, to smile, and he was not gonna standby while another person was ripped away from him. And ahhhhh I am rambeling here I know but its all just so well done and tragic. Its making my brain rot
I think season 2 will be pretty violent. I think they took out a lot of the violence in season 1 so the audience would be truly shocked by how far Ellie goes.
I think they’ll keep golfing in, but maybe they’ll delay it a little bit? Idk- they know they will loose a lot of viewers so I could see them working around it a little bit to delay the inevitable
The only death I could see them taking out/changing is Mel. It’s one of the those things that just may be way to gruesome to do live action
ooo I could definitely see that, anon! I actually think that would be neat? taking out the violence in season 1 to show just how far Ellie goes in season 2. that would be such good soup
I HOPE they delay it. when I watched the second game for the first time, I expected that to be a bit later in the game? like maybe Joel and Ellie do a bit of adventuring and then the golfing happens. cause I saw the two of them in that basement and thought it was a kidnapping sort of situation? with the both of them. so needless to say, I was distraught to find out it happened so early on. but I do agree, I hope they delay it a bit to kinda work around losing viewers. I just wish to delay the inevitable, man. I am not looking forward to seeing Pedro and Bella perform That (it's gonna be amazing, but AAAAA I am not ready)
never thought of that. I could see them changing her death, too, but also maybe not? if they keep Dina pregnant (I imagine they will), then I think Ellie killing Mel (not knowing she was pregnant) would be important to show. because Ellie killing a heavily pregnant woman after telling her pregnant girlfriend that she was a burden? seems like something they'd keep in? but also I feel they'd change it because that is really gruesome to have live action. I do not know, there are so many possibilities. cause if they take out her death, it'll change the plot, I feel. cause Abby might be too worried about Mel in the moment to fully go after Ellie, which would delay everything in the theater. but they can't just take Mel out. they are so many possibilities here
What are your thoughts on them making Tommy and Maria parents in the show?
I wonder if it’ll affect the estrangement storyline at all, maybe Joel and Ellie will be forced to see each other more with this kid in their lives
I think I'm biased because I like the show better, but I really like the fact they made Tommy and Maria parents
I hope it changes some things tbh I don't think Tommy would make Ellie go back after Abby, since he has a kid. he wouldn't send his kid out, so he shouldn't send Ellie out. I hope this makes Joel and Tommy closer, too. I'm probably a bit delusional because of fics, but I hope Tommy having a kid helps Joel heal a little bit, cause he probably hasn't held a baby in 30+ years. and if he has a girl? that looks like Sarah? I hope there is some healing involved. I think it would change the estrangement, too. I imagine Ellie would babysit the kid and Joel would just stop by periodically, and maybe that's when Ellie realizes why Joel did what he did. there was no malice behind his actions; he was just trying to protect his kid. maybe (again, I am delulu) the estrangement is shortened because of this, too. there'd still be resentment and maybe some off days, but I think Ellie might forgive him a bit earlier
Random question- do you happen to know if Joel calls Ellie cargo in the game?
I believe he does! I think it's sort of in passing? cause I do not remember it lmao, but I do think he does!
