Thank you for the insightful answer to my question. I was very conflicted, but that's definitely a good way of thinking about it.

Hi, I'm curious about your opinion on something. Sia has recently revealed in an interview that she has autism. As a fellow autistic individual (who DESPISED her movie Music), I am... seriously conflicted on how to feel about this one. Do you think she deserves any forgiveness or less harsh treatment for her movie, or do you think this is no excuse?

(I've had a couple asks about this, so just addressing it all here)

Honestly, I don't know enough about her specific situation to evaluate how it might have affected the movie's production. Depending on how her autism presents, she might have had problems understanding why people had issues with the characters and story, or she may have had difficulty articulating what she was going for or phrasing her responses to criticism in a way that wasn't as confrontational as it was.

That said, while it might explain some things, I don't think it's a justification or an excuse for the results. It's entirely possible to be part of a marginalized group and still contribute to that group's marginalization (source: I am a white woman).

Yup. Even creating music is ridiculously pricey. If you don't already have instruments from your childhood, you're basically screwed, and that's not even getting into the cost of your average DAW--even the cheap ones are either a recurring subscription or cost nearly a month's rent.

Work-life balance & self-care & all that good shit woulda been easier if hobbies & recreations that don't include The App and Walking Around weren't turning into luxury activities from which people like me, aka 99% of all adults, are getting priced out of more with each passing day

On liking stuff.

There's a post going around on Tumblr about reminding people that they had a Hamilton phase and them being ashamed of it, and I must be in a minority because I still think Hamilton is great, so I don't know what there is to be ashamed of.

I'm aware that the fandom of that particular thing had a reputation for being... strange, but I'm pretty sure being part of a cringey fandom is, like, a rite of passage to be on the internet nowadays. No need to throw the play itself under the bus because of it.

Maybe I'm just OOTL, but in general I don't understand the mindset of being ashamed of having loved something in the past that you aren't as into anymore. That's part of your growth and development.

A fun behind-the-scenes fact about my reviews

Anyone down for a fun fact about my YouTube videos? Here's something for you guys!

Did you know that in my 2020 review of Monster Mash: The Movie (1995), when I called myself in the past, I actually filmed the 2014 segment years earlier?

A Fun Behind-the-scenes Fact About My Reviews
A Fun Behind-the-scenes Fact About My Reviews

Now, to clarify, I did not film it in 2014 proper, more like 2016 or 2017. (You can tell my hair is a bit longer in the "past" segment than it was in 2014.) I had discovered that there was another movie based on the song "Monster Mash," after having already reviewed the animated Monster Mash film from 2000, and thought it would be a funny gag if I called myself in the past to warn myself not to watch it.

To achieve the effect of appearing as though it was 2014, I used an older camera (the one I used in my earliest reviews) and slicked my hair down to make it look shorter.

I knew I would be using the clip at some point in the future... and a few years later, I did.

Talk about foresight, eh?
