I know, I know, it’s been almost half a year since I released the first Sleep Is a Myth comic. Well, believe me, I’m trying to work on it! This was just something I’ve created in the meantime. I spent at least a week trying to get the one hand holding the book to look right!

An Unexpected Loss

Hey, guys. You’re probably wondering where I’ve been these past several days, why I’ve been so inactive.

Well, after over five years, my 17-inch Windows 7 HP laptop finally broke down. I have no idea why and I certainly didn’t see it coming. It was working perfectly the day before. Maybe it installed a virus or something?

According to the people at Compu-Tune Up, a local computer repair business, something is going wrong with the hard drive itself and it needs to be replaced. This, of course, means that all my personal files will be wiped. They are currently backing them up, but we’ll see how many of them are saved.

This, of course, means an indefinite pause on the projects I’ve started but haven’t had time to work on until I can see if they can be backed up. So my Rainbow Rocks review probably will never be seen (no way am I animating all that again!), and I’ll also probably have to re-record the parts for my reviews of The Weird Al Show and Tron: Legacy, as well as any other projects we do. Now those won’t even necessarily happen until I can re-install Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro on the new computer, but one thing at a time. The point is that I will not be making any more projects--music videos, reviews, comics, etc.--for a while due to this setback, so major apologies for that. Also sorry for if I don’t sign in on some of my other accounts--all my passwords stored on my old computer have probably been lost, so there will definitely need to be some account recovery on that end.

Now as for my new computer. How is it? Well, it’s running on Windows 10, which I am personally not a fan of. I quickly learned how to customize it to make it more like my old computer. A few problems I have with it is that its screen is a touchscreen, making it nearly impossible to wipe dirt from without it detecting the pressure and moving stuff around on screen. The other big complaint I have with it is its lack of a CD player. As a musician, I kind of need a CD player to burn CDs of my original music and rip the audio from CDs of bands or artists I enjoy, so this bugs me. But I guess there wasn’t enough of a market for CDs or something. I don’t know.

But yeah, don’t be surprised if my activity is down for a bit until I can get myself up and running again. This was a major setback that, itself, came after a week of absolute hell. I just hope I don’t keep you waiting too long and can get back to my numerous projects soon!

“Midnight Walk”

Remember this character? Anyone who has been following me since 2013 does. This is Al, and I used to use her in my Dan comics from 2012-2013. She’s based on two girls I was friends with in real life, both of whom I had a crush on and one of whom I later dated for a while. The character has been on my mind for a while, and one of the sketches I made yesterday somehow transformed into her, so I said, “Screw it,” and inked and colored it.

I was struggling on what background to give the pic, as I was half-tempted to put her in a messy room (though I’ve never shown her own room before) or in the corner at a party, but after one of my friends on Discord made an edit of it with a city background, I decided to do that using the pic they found as the background as a basis for my own background. (I can’t find the source of the original pic, but if any of you know where it’s located, please tell me so I can add that!)

Al is portrayed as being very quiet and introverted, barely speaking much and only talking in monotone when she does. She also never shows her eyes and has said that she hates people. Because of that, I imagine she’d enjoy nightly walks on the town.

Hope you enjoy the pic! I may draw more Al soon, so look out for that.

I sure hope so. There’s only so much sadness I can take in a comedy series about a cartoon cat solving mysteries!

That last Lloyd episode was sadder at the end than it had any right to be. Good job.

So I decided to make a comic with Al, the girl from the Dan comics I made years back. This one will be called Eight-Layer Inferno: Semesters of Hell! It stars Al and a girl named Sabrina, pictured above in a colored sketch, and will be a mystery-comedy story with supernatural tinges. I already have the first chapter entirely written and can’t wait to start drawing it!

Here’s some information about the characters.

Alexandra “Al” Roth Gender: F Eye color: Unknown Hair color: Purple, though this may change Other notable features: Gray hoodie, very pale skin Profession: High school student Bio: Al is something of an enigma. She barely ever talks, and when she does, it is usually a sarcastic remark. Asocial, she claims to “hate people,” which makes her instantly have a disdain for high school, where social interaction is basically required. The closest thing to a friend that she has is Sabrina Rose, who Al tolerates. Not much is known about her family.

Sabrina Rose Gender: F Eye color: Brown Hair color: Brown Other notable features: Big round glasses Profession: High school student, student council member Bio: Unlike Al, Sabrina is very happy, outgoing, and generally friendly. From the day Al arrives at school, Sabrina tries hard to befriend Al. English is her best subject, whereas PE is by far her worst. In addition to being a highly achieving and knowledgeable student, Sabrina is also on the student council and has some power in the school. She has two brothers and one sister.
