Life was so much easier when there was always a guaranteed PR package in the mailbox. Back when people begged Madisyn to promote their brands on her channel, and she got freebies without spending a cent. But now? The only PR request she got was for some fugly wellington boots not even her grandma would be caught dead in, which she guessed was in line with her farmer brand, but not to who she was as a person. No, if Madisyn wanted things, she had to buy them like everyone else, and on a budget.

Thrifting was very in, very chic. Whilst she doubted Blue Harbor had any hidden gems the LA scene was known for, she was sure there'd be at least a few upmarket things, eyeing a pair of Lululemon leggings that were an absolute steal at the price being offered. They weren't exactly Madi's color, but when she put them down and someone else jumped at them, she couldn't bear the thought of letting them go.

"Omigod, aren't these so adorbz? I mean, they say blue is for everyone, but workout gear? Iunno girl, but brave choice."

At some point in time, Madisyn thought she knew Grace. They had worked together, laughed together, drank together, and had a vision to make the two of them extremely rich (and Madi even more prominent in the influencer-sphere). But, unfortunately, Grace was a self-serving snake, and bad at her job. And poor Madisyn was the one who suffered for it. But she wasn’t going to let this bitch get away with it any longer.

She picked a table as tucked into the corner as possible for maximum privacy, swirling her drink in her cup with a face of disgust as she waited for her farmer business partner to return to the table, barely changing her face as their eyes met again. “Oh, I’m sure we do, Gracie. Maybe let’s start with why the fuck you’re tracking me down, hmm? I’m already forced to live here in Fucksville, Illinois where no one recognises me.” The disgraced influencer shook her head as if that were a bad thing. “I don’t think I have anything to offer you.”

At Some Point In Time, Madisyn Thought She Knew Grace. They Had Worked Together, Laughed Together, Drank

Grace’s smile remained fixed, though she inwardly bristled at Madisyn’s tone. She could feel the tension between them, but Grace wasn’t one to shy away from confrontation, especially when there was something to be gained. “Little ol’ England was charming as ever, but you know me, Mads. I can’t resist the lure of a good business opportunity.” Grace’s voice was smooth and controlled, almost disarmingly so, as she maintained eye contact. “I’ve been keeping busy, as always." Grace already had an idea of how things had been for her former partner, but she wasn't about to argue over something so inconsequential.   As Madisyn gestured to the table, Grace’s eyes flicked to the barista, catching the curiosity in their gaze. She turned back to Madisyn and gave a small nod of acknowledgement. “Sure, let’s do that,” she agreed, her tone light but her mind already calculating her next move. Grace ordered a simple Earl Grey tea and walked over to the table with the confidence of someone who was always in control. She knew, however, in this conversation she’d need to tread carefully. As they sat down, Grace leaned back in her chair, crossing her legs. “So, let’s catch up. I’m sure we have a lot to discuss.” The emphasis on “a lot” was intentional, a not so subtle reminder that Grace was here for more than just a friendly chat.

Madi stood there for a second, briefly debating opening up her TikTok or something and showing it to the stranger. It was so embarrassing to recognize someone and not be recognized back. Or maybe the lady thought it'd be cringe to not fawn over the Madisyn Huang.

Or, maybe she didn't want to fawn. Maybe she wanted to like...laugh at her and her downfall, and was just being super polite about it. That caused Madi to stand straighter, really inspect the woman. So, so familiar.

"What did you do? For a decade back on the West Coast?" She could have been that one shitty PA that was hired by the agency that represented back in her glory days. The one who clearly thought coffee should have tasted like gasoline. "It's just like...you seem super familiar to me."

Madi Stood There For A Second, Briefly Debating Opening Up Her TikTok Or Something And Showing It To

Rachel was absolutely going to take advantage of a day off to stop by the Farmer's Market. She very much realized that a lot of people had the same thought as she got there. Snaking around people, trying not to be annoyed as people just decided to stop in the middle of the path, she walked around and noticed one stall in particular that she hadn't seen in a bit. Gazing at all the options, she hadn't noticed the fellow shoppers until she heard a rather familiar voice. Her heart jumped into her throat.

Her whole career had changed because of Madisyn Huang. She had a lot to be grateful for the article she'd written about the at the time young influencer. It was a time where YouTube felt rather innocent, in comparison at least. Rachel had gotten recognition and interest from Boston Globe because of her piece on Madisyn. Of course, she'd been sent things about the demise of the woman post her own expose, perhaps it had even been the influencer's first piece of bad press. Clearly her writing had only been a tiny crack in the foundation of the life of Madisyn Huang.

She had not expected for any type of recognition to cross her mind, Rachel looked towards her though and blinked a few times as if still registering what she was saying. "Um, yes. Yes I lived there for close to a decade."

Fucking crystals couldn’t do a fucking thing. It incensed Madi, who had spent the last week  trying to use them to their full advantage, following the steps to ‘charge’ them or as tools for manifestation. But what happened? Nothing. Nothing fucking happened. In fact, she lost one hundred followers on TikTok which was like, the complete opposite of what she wanted!

If anything, Madisyn felt scammed. She felt taken advantage of. And the fucking crystal shop would pay for it

She stormed into the shop, the fabric bag that held the useless pieces of rock swaying dangerously from her grasp, zoning in on someone standing behind the cash register and striding right up to them, throwing the bag down on the counter.

“I want a refund. Now.”
