Simple Moon Phase Chart

Simple Moon Phase Chart

It can be pretty easy to get confused about moon phases, so I'm going to give y'all a little cheat sheet here. It's what I've got in my Grimoire and hasn't failed me since I've started using it. Super beginner-friendly, easy to copy, and you can adjust it to your preference as needed.

Enjoy!

The new moon: Setting new or refreshing old intentions, new beginnings, fresh starts, and trying new things.

The waxing moon: Future planning, confidence in yourself, and being sure in your actions and life steps.

The first quarter: Self-appreciation, pausing to enjoy the moments, reflection on yourself, shadow work.

The waxing gibbous moon: Being mindful of yourself and those around you, honing your skills and talents, taking actions.

The full moon: Manifestation, shadow/inner work, divination, charging magic tools/crystals/moon water.

The waning gibbous moon: Evaluating next steps, reviewing choices and options, and assessing your options/skills.

The third quarter: Releasing worries and troubles, letting hard things go, cleansing mind, body, and soul.

The waning moon: Self-love and self-care, caring for yourself and/or others, forgiving yourself, and surrendering to your next steps.

Although it may not be perfect, this is the chart that I plan m practice around and it's yet to fail me!

As always, practice in a cleansed space and always do your own research. Good luck everyone, and blessed be!

A Charm For Luck:

I haven't used this spell myself but I thought someone out there might like to try it if they need a little more luck on their side.

Needed:

A silver piece of jewelry

Two white candles

Basil

Ground Cinnamon

Matches/lighter

A needle

To Conjure:

Upon each candle inscribe the following: Luck Always Finds Me

Create a circle using ground cinnamon and basil. Within this circle, place the piece of jewelry and the two candles.

Light the candles and say the following thrice: "Herbs of luck and herbs of lore, give me what I lacked before. Imbued is this charm of mine, bring me luck and make it fine."

Allow the candles to burn themselves out then toss them. Sweep up the herbs and toss them into the wind once finished.

Black Salt

Black salt is a great tool for pretty much any witch and can be made with a large variety of things. For me, personally, I generally infuse my black salt with various dark ingredients (as in color, not the intention) from various spells and castings to fine-tune my current needs.

Since I've seen a couple of asks about this, I'm going to make a list of a few different things I do and use to make my black salt.

How I make it:

Grinding salt with dark ingredients

Saturating water with salt, adding dark ingredients with intention, reducing and dehydrating back into a crystallized form

Mixing salt and dark ingredients with a tiny bit of oil or moon water to create a 'paintable' paste

What I've used:

Ashes from burnt incense

Ashes from burnt spells

Trimmings of burnt candle wicks

Dark-colored berries

Ground black stones

Ashes of herbs I've burnt for their effects

Volcanic ash (not terribly dark, but powerful)

Black salt can be used for a variety of practices, but as always, make sure you do your research and cross-reference your findings with a variety of sources before solidifying your knowledge. Sometimes you'd be surprised what mistakes even experiences witches can make without doing their homework, and I want everyone reading this post to be safe in their practice. Blessed be, everyone!

witches, do i have a delightfully protective, delicious, and autumnal meal for you!

this is the Bay Potatoes recipe from “the forest feast” by Erin Gleeson, but i think every witch needs to try it at least once. it’s wonderful. it is also safe for baby witches.

you will need:

3 sweet potatoes, for grounding

3 small red onions, for protection

3 red potatoes, for stability

bay leaves, for luck, abundance, and good fortune

olive oil, for wisdom and peace

salt, for purification

pepper, for banishing negativity

minced garlic, for healing and strength

how to make:

-cut sweet potatoes, red potatoes, and red onions into thin slices and line up on a 9x13 pan in any order you’d like

-slip bay leaves between slices wherever it feels right

-mix olive oil, minced garlic, salt, and pepper together. drizzle mixture on top

-bake for roughly 1hr at 425°F, or however long it takes for it to crisp at the edges

while it bakes, take this time to focus on the parts of this spell you need to most. protection? healing? meditate on it. do some shadow work on it. do some additional spell work if you feel compelled to. whatever feels right. set that intention.

when the hour is up, release your intention, and enjoy.

happy cooking!
