Recipes Please!

Hi everyone, it's ya girl Aurora here! Today, I'm looking for ideas. As my followers know... I'm very much into cooking. The more I can make from scratch, the better!

I'm learning to preserve food (canning, jam/jelly, dehydrating, pickling) & am, like everyone, trying to save money. Realistically, the only thing we're "boujie" about in our house is food.

We very much enjoy Instagram worthy food, and I strive for the best taste I can get. Of the 5 people in our family, we have 3 autistic people & a few allergies. Surprisingly, though, diets aren't too terribly restricted.

So yeah... I'm looking for recipes. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, drinks, etc.

*allergies*

Kiwi, All Melon, Bleu Cheese

*will not eat*

Sweet Potato (unless it's dessert), Duck, Turkey, Grits, Eggplant, Asparagus, Brussel Sprouts, Lamb, NO ALCOHOL HOME

Kitchen Witchery

Cooking is fun, tasty, rewarding, and one of the most subtle ways to perform a ritual or to generally practice witchcraft. The spice cabinet is full of magical ingredients and each one has their own specific purpose which I'll share here. Friendly reminder that each ingredient is powered by YOU, so make sure to emphasise which herb and which property is desired as a result of your efforts.

Common kitchen herbs and their virtues:

Allspice- drawing money, prosperity, good luck. Often used for baking sweet treats

Angelica root- purification, protection. Used as flavoring (particularly in candy)

Basil- peace, protection, happiness, love. Makes pesto and is used in soups, sauces, stews, salads, as a garnish, etc.

Bay leaves- wisdom, divination, dream work. Used to add flavor to soups and stews and acts as a garnish

Chamomile- prosperity, peace, happiness. Mostly consumed as tea to calm/ settle the stomach and to induce sleep

Cinnamon- success, spell amplifier, manifesting, energy, purification. Mostly used in baking sweet treats

Clove- protection, purification, psychic ability. Mostly used in baking

Caraway seeds- protection, anti-theft, promotes fidelity

Dill- lust, protction, good fortune. Used in soups, stwes, and other savory dishes

Garlic- power, protection, healing. Used in savory dishes

Ginger- protection during childbirth, love, success, spell amplifier. Used in teas, soups, stews, and other savory dishes

Marjoram- love, marriage, joy. Used similarly as basil

Mint- fertility, money drawing, success. Used in teas

Nutmeg- psychic enhancement, happiness, love. Used in baking

Parsley- an offering to the dead, power purification. Used for flavor and as a garnish

Rosemary- memory, wisdom, protection, healing. Used to flavor meat, soups, stews, and veggies

Sage- purification, protection, clearing, wisdom, invocation. Used to flavor meat, soups, and stews

Verbena (I don't reccomend using it at all, but if you decide to please consume with CAUTION)- divination, inspiration

The Modern Witchcraft Guide to Magical Herbs, by Skye Alexander is what I used as a source of this information.

I notice the list above is incomplete so I do encourage doing some research into the magical properties of other herbs, edible flowers, spices, and common household seasoning (salt and pepper for example).

Apple Cider is basically a homesteading spell.

So let's talk about it!

Apple Cider Is Basically A Homesteading Spell.

Apple Cider has been a stable in my house every single year for almost my whole life.

Although I never lived in one house for more than a year or two (and oftentimes, not even in one country), I always had a yearly visit to my grandparent's house in Washington before moving here permanently. There's a beautiful pasture, a giant garden, an orchard right next to our home dripping with pears and apples comes autumn. Every year without fail, my grandpa would drag me over with a big ol' bucket and we'd gather pounds and pounds of apples. We made all sorts of fun things. Applesauce, apple cakes, apple candy, apple honey and sugar, apple syrup - and my favorite in the whole wide world, apple cider. We would get fresh herbs from a farmers market and make gallons and gallons of cider to jar for the upcoming years, because I would always, without fail, want a cup of it when I was sick, sad, lonely, or tired.

In recent years, as I study more and more about my practice, I realized that Apple Cider was basically a potion of happiness and safety. A perfect homesteading potion/spell - which is why it gives me such a sense of comfort. And now, I'm realizing that it would be selfish of me to keep such a treasured recipe to myself.

So here is what you'll need:

Crock pot

10 apples (I recommend 5 honeycrisp and 5 granny smith), quartered

Moon water (enough to cover apples by at least an inch and a half)

1/2 - 1 packed cup of brown sugar (depending on your sweet tooth)

1 orange, sliced

1 tablespoon whole cloves

3 cinnamon sticks

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon allspice

1/4 teaspoon ginger

1/4 teaspoon genuine vanilla extract

Tiny pinch of salt

What do the ingredients manifest?

Apples: Love, Luck, Prosperity, Healing

Sugar: Sweetness, Love, Inviting good things

Orange: Abundance, Happiness, Love in marriage

Cloves: Protection, Success

Cinnamon: Protection, Healing, Luck, Love, Success

Nutmeg: Luck, Protection, Safety, Balance

Allspice: Luck, Financial Success, Healing

Ginger: Confidence, Prosperity, Success

Vanilla: Love, Passion

Instructions:

Wash your apples and orange

Cleanse your crock pot with your preferred cleansing method (I like an incense/smoke cleanse)

Slice your apples and orange, add to the crock pot

Add your sugar, herbs, and spices

Cover with moon water until it's 1.5-2 inches above the apples

Cover crockpot with lid and set to low for a minimum of 6 hours, preferably overnight

Strain out apples, herbs, orange slices

Add vanilla and tiny pinch of salt, mix well

Serve piping hot with a fresh apple or orange slice, if desired

You can also use the cooked apples to make applesauce, or turn them into apple pancakes or add to cakes/baking mixes! I hope this recipe brings warmth and light to your kitchen <3

Blessed Be everyone, and have a wonderful autumn.

witches, do i have a delightfully protective, delicious, and autumnal meal for you!

this is the Bay Potatoes recipe from “the forest feast” by Erin Gleeson, but i think every witch needs to try it at least once. it’s wonderful. it is also safe for baby witches.

you will need:

3 sweet potatoes, for grounding

3 small red onions, for protection

3 red potatoes, for stability

bay leaves, for luck, abundance, and good fortune

olive oil, for wisdom and peace

salt, for purification

pepper, for banishing negativity

minced garlic, for healing and strength

how to make:

-cut sweet potatoes, red potatoes, and red onions into thin slices and line up on a 9x13 pan in any order you’d like

-slip bay leaves between slices wherever it feels right

-mix olive oil, minced garlic, salt, and pepper together. drizzle mixture on top

-bake for roughly 1hr at 425°F, or however long it takes for it to crisp at the edges

while it bakes, take this time to focus on the parts of this spell you need to most. protection? healing? meditate on it. do some shadow work on it. do some additional spell work if you feel compelled to. whatever feels right. set that intention.

when the hour is up, release your intention, and enjoy.

happy cooking!

Blessed Yule!

Blessed Yule!

Yule, Yuletide or the winter solstice, happens usually around the 21st to the 25th (it depends for each year!) The winter solstice is a celebration of the longest night and shortest day of the year: after that, days will get longer again! It's a great time to celebrate home, family, friends, and reflect on ourselves. It also celebrates the eternal cycle of light and dark, life and death.

Crystals that are good to have for Yule are Ametrine, Orange Calcite, Ruby, Turquoise, Garnet, Bloodstone, Snowflake Obsidian and Onyx

For food, you can think of fruit (like oranges!), dried fruit, nuts, or even drink cider!

Colors that go well for Yule are, of course, red, green, white, silver and gold!

What to do for Yule

Decorate a Christmas/Yule tree. It's also a great activity if you are still in the broom closet

Bake a Yule log (the cake!), gingerbread cookies, plum pudding, or other recipes you usually make for the holidays. For example, fruit pies are always a big thing in my house during Christmas, so I also bake some for Yule!

Since Yule is a great time for reflection, make sure you take some time for that. Sit down and think about what happened in your life this year, meditate on it, try to see what was good and what was bad, and how to fix/change the latter. Do shadow work. Be grateful, make bullet points of your year's highlights. Using divination tools, like making a tarot spread about yourself/your situation, is also a great way to do that. Sometimes, it's even easier because the tool might bring up points you would've never thought of.

Have fun with family and friends! Yule is about the love and warmth around you, that also goes for the people you love.

Take a cleansing bath or shower! It's time to let go of things that you don't need anymore: and cleansing yourself helps to move on, to get rid of energies that no longer serve you. It will make some space for new things to come!

Go take a walk outside! Go appreciate the cold and how calm winter is.

Watch the sunrise and sunset. Afterall, it is the shortest day of the year, and it's nice to really see it.

With all that being said, I wish a blessed Yule to all! Take care of yourselves and have fun :)

thinking of exploring christopaganism, but only for the vietnamese kitchen gods (and maybe ong dia and than tai too idk). i thought maybe i could replace them with st. martha (patron saint of homemakers and cooks) but i don't really feel much of a connection to her tbh. but obviously, i'm not gonna worship them, i'll just ask them to pray for me like they're saints.

50 KITCHEN WITCH TIPS TO MAKE YOU FEEL MORE WITCHY

50 KITCHEN WITCH TIPS TO MAKE YOU FEEL MORE WITCHY

(And other useful things I've learned over the years)

Hi! This is a list of dos, don'ts, tips, tricks, and other fun things that I've learned over the years. I always love finding more effective and efficient ways of doing things so if you have any cool things you'd like to add, leave them in the comments or reblog. I'd love to read it.

Anyways... On with the list ^_^

Light candles around your kitchen space (just make sure nothing flammable is near you)

Annotate your cookbooks with the correspondence of the ingredients.

Mediating is really good to calm the mind before cooking.

Cut oranges and lemons thinly, dry them, and hang them with twine around your kitchen

Need a cleansing tip? Open all your windows near your kitchen. Let some fresh air in.

Cutting sigils into apples, pie crusts, and carved potatoes.

Save lemon and orange rinds, freeze them, and then use them to clean the garbage disposal.

Make infused oils and honey: Things like garlic honey, lavender honey, herb oil, sun oil, moon oil, dandelion oil, and other different edible oils are very fun and useful to make.

Hid sigils in pages of your cookbooks and kitchen witch journals.

Add some plants! Snake plants and spider plants don't need too much light, and growing your own herbs in your kitchen is awesome too. Basil, lavender, thyme, aloe vera, rosemary, etc. are good fits. You could also add some plants that require more sunlight on the kitchen window sill. Like cacti and succulents.

Bring crystals into your kitchen space such as rose quartz, clear quartz, amethyst, or whatever you want the space's intentions to be.

I keep a small money tree on the sill, along with cacti for luck and protection.

Make a simmer Pot! Mostly because it makes the whole house smell good, easy, and fun.

Stir clockwise for best results!

Learning how to pickle things is actually pretty witchy. Plus, anyone could do it as it requires absolutely no kitchen experience. You could pickle any vegetable, even if you don't like pickles. I originally learned this after having to take shelter from a natural disaster. A person brought a bunch of stuff and taught us how to pickle things with different spices and herbs. Very fun!

Decorate your kitchen with your favorite stuff. Crystals, decor, heat mits, that cool mushroom cake stand you've been eyeing at the World Market for the past 2 weeks, cool looking curtains, sun catchers. Why stop there? Paint the walls, hang shelves full of marked-up cookbooks that are a little too well-loved and thumbed through.

Wanna be the person that has the amazing-smelling house every time people come over? Syrups take some time to simmer down, it's actually a pretty good time to leave it on the stove to simmer. Since syrups have a lot of aromatic ingredients, it acts as a really good-smelling simmer pot.

Hang up herbs to dry with twine from cabinets that are rarely used.

Invest in that new set of plates and cups.

Homemade jams, butter, sauces, and syrups are your best friend.

Crochet or knit your own dish rags, pot holders, etc.

Don't pour extremely hot things into a glass that's not Pyrex, it will break, and you will be very sad about it.

Don't cook anything while extremely upset or emotional (For safety reasons)

Make recipes you want to make, not just because you'll like the effect. Make it because you think it's tasty.

Chinese Five Spice works in place of herbs for protection and luck spells a lot of the time! It's cheaper to buy 1 spice than 4 different spices that total up to 15 dollars when you could just spend 3-4 dollars.

Take a shower before cooking (I don't know how to explain this one other than it makes you feel better)

Don't use microfiber/plastic material clothes on hot burners, it will fuse to the burner and melt. It is VERY hard to get off.

I don't know if I need to put this one but I did see someone do it so nonstick pan = wooden utensils and plastic utensils, metal pan = metal utensils. Do not use a metal spoon in a nonstick pan, please. It can make you very sick.

Keep your pets away from hot oil, open ovens, and hot pans.

You can proof bread dough in the fridge overnight if you don't have the time to bake, or want to eat fresh bread right in the morning.

Need a quick witchy meal for dinner in 12 minutes? Use premade tomato pasta sauce and doctor it up with thyme, rosemary, and garlic, for protection and distilling stagnant energies. Serve with pasta of your liking.

You can substitute Butter for Crisco/shortening, buttermilk for 1 cup of milk + 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar or lemon juice, and heavy cream for 1 cup of half and half plus 2 tbsp of butter.

Use leftover animal bones to make bone broth

Teach yourself the art of bread scoring (It's fun, and you can show it off to your loved ones!)

Collect and hoard your own and others' family recipes.

Sometimes the food doesn't have to be a spell, sometimes it just makes you feel good and you don't know why.

Listen to your favorite music in the kitchen, it makes the monotonous things like chopping veggies move faster.

Invest in a vegetable chopper if you don't like chopping vegetables.

Find a really good hot cocoa recipe and make it once a week. Master it. Just for your own happiness because hot cocoa is really good. You could also be the friend/family member that makes the best hot cocoa ever.

Focaccia Bread Lasts a very long time, and it's very easy to make!

Keep a first aid kit near where the oven is, in case of burns, cuts, or serious injuries where time is everything.

Quick Bread and no-rise loaves are simple for beginners, tasty, and take little time. They also feel very witchy to make.

Study a bit of Herbalism! It's fun and really helps better understand the herbs you're putting into your food.

While something is boiling, put your wooden spoon over the pot to minimize the chance of something boiling over.

Try a bit of coffee magick, it's simple to get into, and gives you a boost of energy to take on the day!

If you're over 21, wine-making is a very interesting way to celebrate the sabbats. Just with that, make sure you KNOW what you're doing. With anything fermented, there's always a risk if you don't store things correctly. Apple wines, strawberry wines, dandelion wines, etc. all very cool to experiment with. If you're not over 21, vinegar is a similar way to experiment.

Hang up some witchy things, sigils, photos, cool magnets, and other things that give you joy on your fridge. (Sometimes if you are lucky they have some fun magnets at five below)

If you live in the US, for some reason, there are a lot of books in the book section dedicated to witchcraft and spirituality. At least where I live. And they are all under 5 dollars!

Teas are the cheapest and easiest things you can practice being a kitchen witch.

Persian Love Cake for Beltane

Persian Love Cake For Beltane

This honey syrup soaked cake adorned with rose petals and fragrant with cardamom is the perfect dessert to represent an amorous holiday full of love. While traditional recipes include bannocks and honey cakes, this persian delicacy truly fills the senses and corresponds beautifully with the height of spring.

You can find the full recipe here from the above photo, but my version is below.

For the cake: ¾ cups granulated sugar ½ cup canola oil ½ teaspoon ground cardamom 3 large eggs ¼ cup milk 1 cup almond meal 1 cup all purpose flour 1.5 teaspoons baking powder ¼ teaspoon salt

For the syrup: 1 cup honey 1 cup granulated sugar ¾ cup cold water ½ teaspoon rose water Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9 inch square pan.

In a large bowl, mix ¾ cups sugar, canola oil, and eggs, until well combined.

Add the remaining dry ingredients and stir until smooth. Pour into the cake pan and bake 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

While the cake is baking, combine all syrup ingredients into a pot over medium high heat and bring to a boil. Turn down to low heat and simmer 5 - 10 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to sit until cake is out of the oven.

Allow the cake to cool for ten minutes and then slowly pour honey syrup over cake. It will take a moment for the cake to absorb all of the syrup, so if you pour all of it right away it may spill over!

Let cake come to room temperature before cutting. Serve warm or cold! Adorn with chopped pistachios and edible rose petals optionally.

Psa that your witchcraft is tailor made to you. You can obviously adopt practices from others that you like, but your craft is your own. It can be as messy or as organized as you need/want. It can be inconsistent as fuck, or scheduled. Never feel bad for the way you practice. Witchcraft is meant to be tailored to each individual

🌙There are different authors who classify witches into different types.

🌙I loved these illustrations, so I decided to post them (I found them on Pinterest). But there are no rules for the path you want to follow. Follow your instincts and your tastes.
