Where to begin...
Tartaglia, or Childe as you had come to know him, was always someone who was flirty with everyone (and I mean EVERYONE)
So whenever he flirted with you, you never took it genuinely as flirting to entice romance. You always laughed and shrugged it off, even when he made you as red as the mask he wore on his head. You never understood why he seemed so... disappointed when you told him he was "funny", and it seemed to get on his nerves when you laughed his flirting off as just him trying to get attention.
Childe had always loved you, ever since he laid eyes on you. He would stare from the sidelines, watching how you moved, how you talked, how you fought. It made him all the more attracted to you.
When you had finally (albeit reluctantly) became friends with him, he was overjoyed that he could be your friend. He was highly aware that you mistrusted him, but that didn't deter him from his goal: Make her MINE.
He would admit any day that you had gotten after him more than a few times for being possessive. After all, he wanted you desperately to be his. Still, he never had the balls to even consider asking you out. Every time he tried, his mouth would feel dry, his palms would sweat furiously under his gloves, his knees would tremble, and he would fully clam up.
You yourself had always found him a little endearing, once you got past the part of him that was indeed a Fatui harbinger. Sadly though, you always thought he was just a playboy, as he flirted with almost every woman he saw (whether to get a deal or just get a reaction you may never know). You fully believed (by paimon's words) that he was just trying to fluster you to satisfy his lust for attention.
But one day, he had had enough beating around the bush. He asked you to meet him in Wanmin Restaurant, as he wanted to "talk". You, believing you were in trouble, prepared for a fight, but Childe got in a nice, formal outfit, and even bought you Rainbow Roses all the way from Fontaine.
When you arrived at the restaurant, Child was outside waiting for you, bouquet of roses in hand. You looked surprised, as you had been expecting a fight, not a date. Childe smiled sheepishly, and you realized that you were a total idiot.
"Is this- Is this not a fight-? I thought we were going to have to battle again-" You asked, looking up at the tall boy as you stood before him.
Tartaglia burst into laughter, his tension easing. "Would I have brought roses to fight you??"
You hid your face in your hands, embarrassed for your behavior. Even at that moment, the dots all connected. The flirting, the possessiveness, the staring and grinning like an idiot, the absolute adoration he showed you. It was all genuine.
"B-but- When you flirted with the other girls I thought-" "I was practicing.. I wanted to make sure I knew what to say to you so I didn't make a fool of myself!"
Childe laughed, his laugh easing all tension. He took your hand, gently giving you the flowers and looking at you like you were the only woman in the world.
"I could never NOT be genuine about how I feel for you, Traveler."
After that night, you both planned weekly dates, whether it was going out and just having fun or getting each other out of trouble, you both enjoyed it. On your 3rd date, Childe finally gained the courage to ask an important question. You had just defeated your 17th whopperflower of the day, and as you collected the nectar, he held you from behind. When you stood, he smiled and held you closely, his hands on your waist. He never imagined how wonderful it would feel to feel your hips under his fingers.
"Traveler..? May I... May I kiss you?"

You were a new arrival to Sumeru.
As the Traveler, you followed your commissions all the way to the blooming city, running by mushroom-like critters and large boar-like creatures.
You and Paimon found yourselves standing at the base of the steps of the Sumeru Akedemiya, staring up in awe at the grandeur that was the pride of Sumeru. As you ran up the steps, excited to explore, you suddenly ran into a thick barrier. You started to stumble back, and as you let out a cry of surprise, a gentle, yet firm hand grasped your own, catching you mid-fall.
You gasped, your eyes landing on the stoic, gorgeous face of Sumeru’s Acting Grand Sage: AlHaitham.
His minty green eyes pierced through yours, his lips pursed into a tight line. He pulled you up gently, making sure your feet were securely on the ground. You looked up at him, a slight blush warming your cheeks. AlHaitham fixed your bangs gently, before clearing his throat and pulling his hand back.
“You should be more careful.” He spoke, his voice humming and seemingly reverberating through your body.
After that first meeting, you felt a deep desire to become his friend, if not even more.
You had no idea you two would become so close.
After a few months, you and AlHaitham had gotten fairly close, though it never felt like it since AlHaitham was very distant. He was almost always busy, whether he was taking care of personal matters, or business as the Acting Grand Sage. You could almost never find a good time to bother him, and your attempts began feeling useless.
After a while, you busied yourself as well, letting paimon take you to accept commission after commission.
AlHaitham noticed your visits lessening, and he started feeling a tad lonely, as he had been used to your pressence and enjoyed your company.
One night, right after work, AlHaitham decided to go looking for you. He memorized where you liked to hang out, as you had asked if he would ever go there with you. But when he checked the spot you seemed to favor most, you werent there. In fact, you weren’t ANYWHERE!
This was what made him panic.
When he finally found you, half dead fighting a group of pyro whopperflowers (who were WAYYYY above your level of course), he felt guilt overcome him. He immediately dove in, getting between you and the whopperflowers. All you saw before you blacked out was AlHaitham’s typically serious face filled with guilt and rage.
When you woke up, you were dizzy. Your ears were ringing, blood coming from somewhere on your head, and burns all over your body.
And beside you, with almost matching burns, was Alhaitham. The Whopperflowers were long dead, but it seemed that he wouldn’t let his guard down; as if he couldn’t bring himself to believe that he let you get hurt so badly. Before he could turn to check on you, you were on your feet, albeit shaky as ever. You clung to his cape, trying to find some footing.
Suddenly, before you could even ask what made him come to find you, you had been swept off your feet and carried out of the area. The whole walk, AlHaitham kept constantly looking at you, making sure you were alright. You could almost HEAR his guilt-ridden thoughts.
“Why couldn’t I have helped them sooner…? Why did I have to let them fight alone..?”
Once in his own home with you, he would barely let you get anything for yourself. He was constantly asking if you needed things, and it was almost scary seeing him this worried about you. But, you stopped him after he got you your 3rd bar of chocolate. You gently set the chocolate aside, carefully pulled him close, and kissed him on the lips.
Once your lips touched his own, his whole body felt like it was burning up; but not in a bad way. He nearly melted into your grasp, letting out a gentle whimper. He never realized he needed you this badly; just needing to feel your lips on his. It shut his entire mind up, making all thoughts disintegrate into meaningless dough as he desperately clung to your kiss.
When you pulled away, he almost seemed hesitant to open his eyes, his mind still stumbling over itself from the simple gesture. It made you laugh a bit seeing the oh-so-stoic alhaitham all blushy and stuttering as he attended simple speech.
Throughout the night, he learned the best ways to hold you, whether in his lap or from behind or even just spooning you, and he made sure you were safe and healthy.
When you came home a few weeks later, unable to take in a full breath from the pain, he knew exactly what to do then. From that simple night onward, he would always send you messages via Hawk, asking if you were alright and if your commissions were going well (also possibly threatening paimon to keep you from overworking yourself OR ELSE).
You knew he would be your best friend forever after.
