A Large Part Of Housecat Vocalisation Toward Humans Isnt Goal-directed Communication, But Rather, Affiliative

A large part of housecat vocalisation toward humans isn’t goal-directed communication, but rather, affiliative signaling: a simple call-and-response protocol which establishes that the participants are part of the same social unit. Amongst themselves, most housecat affiliative signaling is non-vocal, but humans aren’t really physiologically equipped to respond to such signalling in a feline fashion, and cats, well, they’re adaptable.

Which is to say that when your cat yells, and you yell back, so the cat yells again, and so forth, what you’re really saying to each other is “hiiiiii~”.

A wide view of a supernova remnant on a starfield. The entire remanant is tiny. At the very center is a small red dot, the dense gas and dust at the center. Surrounding this knot of matter is a bright red ring, and two fainter red rings above and below it, forming a figure-8 shape. Outside this structure is a cloud of red gas and dust, which is denser from the 9 o’clock to the 6 o’clock direction than the rest of the image. There are blue and red stars spread throughout.

Supernovas like Supernova 1987A, seen at center, not only enrich their surroundings with many elements, but also trigger the formation of new stars. This image was captured by Hubble for the supernova’s 30th anniversary: https://bit.ly/4fD6Y9l

Sirius solving the problem by EATING Peter (as Scabbers) omg

crack au where in the beginning of book 3 when sirius comes to see harry in dog form he just...follows him onto the Knight Bus. and Harry's like 'well this is weird' but his life is weird. so whatever. and then the whole rest of the summer the dog just stays with him. since other people can see the dog he figures it's definitely not a Grim. And the dog seems pretty friendly. and well behaved. and he kinda likes. so harry's just shrugs and is like 'well this might as well happen' and when he meets up with his friends he tells them apparently he has a pet dog now.

can't decide if that would mean that book 3 still happens the same way as in canon or if peter takes one look at sirius and ditches and ron's always confused about why Scabbers ran away OR if Sirius eats Scabbers and consequently voldemort doesn't return and Harry has a very chill rest of his time at Hogwarts (except for the bit where he inevitably discovers that his dog is actually not a dog).
