I’ve been creating default replacements of various things (going to share them soon!) for three days now, so it was pretty nice actually going in game. I haven’t played for years, and I miss it so much. I long for the time when I’ll be done with my neighborhood so I can finally start playing :’( which will be in like 10 years

A couple months ago @midgethetree made this handy little mod that re-enables the long-lost diary textures. Then @vegan-kaktus (who also kinda requested that mod in the first place) shared these very cute diary replacements. I really like the “classic diary look” of those, but I wanted something that would have more notebook-ish feeling and after I saw these textures at RawPixel I knew I had to use them. 

And! As there were some problems with gendered textures (and I don’t only mean that being dumb criteria to start with), Midge did another, complementary mod that makes it so that every primary aspiration uses different diary textures. So instead of one (or two), you get eight different diary textures that you can have in your game simultaneously! How cool is that? 

You still need the mod that re-enables diary textures in the first place, linked above. Midge was very kind and gave me permission to share the other one (which enables the aspiration-based textures) so that’s included with the download.

The textures you can see above are linked to the aspirations from left to right: fortune, pleasure, knowledge, popularity, romance, family, grilled cheese and grow up (which only kids will use and thus the different layout for that page). If you’d prefer different textures for different aspirations I included the textures with the download as well, so it’s easy to swap them - the family aspiration uses book-cover-diarygirl texture and the romance aspiration uses book-cover-diaryboy, but otherwise it’s pretty self-explaining. I would love to see other defaults based on that mod as well!

Credits: I really can’t thank Midge enough, they were super patient with me when I didn’t understand why things refused to work. I also used the textures by Vegan-Kaktus as a base for mine and her DR was my main inspiration to do these. A small piece of textures is by Slig. Both fonts used in those pages are by @ajaysims and all images are from RawPixel.

Ahhh I see, I don’t have the purple flashing (yet, anyway) [nervous laughter] but I did save these posts about possible “fixes” for future use, if you’re interested: here and here. 

It’s really weird how the game runs just fine for some but unplayable for others. And no problem! Sorry I couldn’t be of more help :-(

About Windows 7 support ending and The Sims 2

As you might know, in January 14 2020 Windows 7 support ends. Which, as far as I understand, means that antivirus software will stop being updated for it, leaving Windows 7 computers vulnerable.

I have one PC that I use for everything: entertainment, games, work, and school.

I’ve tried running The Sims 2 in Windows 10, and it’s pretty much unusable. Most important, despite having a great PC, it has some issues with Windows 10. The most annoying one is slowness, especially when it comes to loading images and thumbnails. You can imagine that as an art student who wishes to do digital art eventually, I find this a bit problematic.

I have three options: one, to just install Windows 10 in my only computer when Windows 7 support ends, and buy a SSD to try and solve the slowness issue. Still no Sims 2 with this option.

Two, switch to Linux and hope the drivers are compatible. No games with this option (I think). And probably a lot of research on app alternatives.

Three, buy a second PC, and leave my current one just for games and without Internet connection. The problem is, it has to be good enough to run digital art apps smoothly, and that’s very expensive.

Option three is the one to go if I really want to keep playing The Sims 2. But I don’t think I’m that desperate. And I don’t have any money for a new PC right now. I could always wait until I get a better paid job. I think I’ll try option two first, I don’t like Windows 10.

I haven’t seen anyone talk about this. What do other TS2 simmers who want to keep playing the game plan on doing when Windows 7 support ends? Am I the only one with just one computer?

Simonut over at MTS were using Artemida’s default from here, but didn’t like the ribbon. I did a quick mesh and texture edit using Artemida’s textures. This file is a default replacement for both ambodymayor and embodymayor, with fat morphs! Remember you can only have one DR for these clothes in your download folder at a time.

The file has been compressed to reduce file size. If you notice any problems, please let me know! 

Edit: forgot to mention, for some reason there’s two mayor outfits for men. A red tie and a blue one. My DR replaces them both, as seen in the picture :-)

Uneven texture sizes are fine, both just have to be in the 2048 scale table (so anything from 32x32 to 2048x2048) and the game can read it!

Oh nice, there wasn't really a good DR for this when I was looking for one!

Ikr? I’ve been using psychosims’ DR here but the shoes were.. a questionable choice :pp (still better than EA’s though) and I would like the colors to pop a little more so I decided to make my own default. I’m happy you like it as well! Shouldn’t take too long before I share it.
