Head tilted back, the villain let the last drops of poison drip into their mouth and slide down their throat. The hero gaped.

“Are you happy now?” 

“You just killed yourself.” The poison was supposed to be a bluff. No, oh God, no.

The villain smirked, before doubling over in a coughing fit. “I don’t care. You probably have an antidote, anyway.” 

They did, but the hero didn’t know if they’d find it in time. 

There’s always that feeling with a new book. A feeling of wariness and prudence on the first few pages. The way the author writes and punctuates. The way the characters speak and interact. As if you’ve entered a world and wonder if you’ll like what you’ll find on this road.

“Will I like it? Will I put it down and attempt a few months later?” 

It is a game of chance. 

Then you keep reading, willing yourself not to give up on a new world so quickly; who knows what adventures and lessons you may come across? And you find that this world develops in your mind and it is the most beautiful thing you could have imagined. A sense of shock comes over you, the fact that you nearly missed out on this blossoming world and its people because you almost gave up too quickly due to its newness and contrast to what you were familiar with.
