Dolores: I am not an early bird or a night owl. I am some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.
There's nothing wrong with you
Mirabel was tired. She wanted things to go back, be normal again.

Mirabel felt suffocating. Weight pressed on her chest so heavy. Pushing the air out of her lungs with every thud of the old walls crashing against their foundation. Dust crawled into her nose, forcing Mirabel to sneeze when there wasn't enough air. And it was snapping, wood cracked into the fingers. The candle between her fingers felt like it was burning her alive, hot spires licked the delicate skin. She was about to die, again. It would kill her for good. Mirabel gasped for breathe but the air just wouldn't come in, leaving her like fish out of the water for hours straight.
Her sheets were wet from sweat. Mirabel jumped, yanking herself out of the unbearable weight of her blanket. Her body trembled. For a moment Mirabel just stood here. Then her knees buckled. Hands gripped onto the cold lifeless floor. A painful limp got stuck in her throat. This was happening again she would die she just...
Right. Nothing is breaking (even if a moment ago Mirabel was sure Casita was about to crash her for good.)
This was happening again. Nightmares had become her very close friend since Casita's collapse. Mirabel inhaled, trying to push the acid taste of stone chips. It didn't work, no matter how hard she tried. The dust just got so deep in her lungs that night, Mirabel wasn't able to cough it out.
She pushed herself up, walking out of her room in a slim pace. For a moment she stared at the decorated door. Painted by her family. Then at the dark halls. The stars lightened the place. Okay, okay... Everything is...
Something cracked. Mirabel cried out like a lost duckling, taking a step back. This was happening again, she would die. The miracle was fading because of her. And this time it would take everyone else with her. The smoke rose in the air, suffocating Mirabel, her limbs were attached by the threads. Yes she could feel it, her bones are being crushed. The porcelain plates are crushed by the solid rock. It pushed her into the ground as Mirabel desperately tried to get herself out. She cried in panic as the weight locked her in place. No, the candle.... who would go for it? Her head spun.
The sounds yelled in her ears, Mirabel tried to push the stone away. But it didn't bulge, only staining her deeper. "Mirabel!" The debris screamed, panicked. (When did it learned to speak instead of simply crashing?)
Voice got louder. Blocking out the sounds, so drowning. With it, the noise of the cracks running along the tower became quiet and died
There was nothing. Casita wasn't breaking, the magic wasn't fading. Mirabel just got stupid over nothing again. The debris that seemed rock-hard hard just a second ago became softer when Mirabel managed to focus on it. And way warmer than a normal stone, like it was lying in the sun a moment ago, taking its raw shine. There wasn't a floor where she was pushed. Rather someone's arms
Mirabel lifted her chin. "Luisa?" She breathed out. Nobody else could’ve been so big. Her body trembled, hands clenched purple nightgown. What was wrong with her? Why did she keep panicking over nothing? She should've get over it already.
"You here?" Luisa clarified, lifting Mirabel into her arms. "Bad night again?" Mirabel didn't reply. Her Hermana saw enough to know.
"What's wrong with me?" She whispered. Her chest still was tight.
Luisa cuddled her against her shoulder. "Nothing."
Mirabel shook her head frantically. "I keep hearing and feeling things that aren't real." This wasn't normal by any definition. What an irony, Mirabel wanted to be special like her family, but instead she became an idiot who freaked out over nothing. She missed the way things were. When Mirabel didn't have to wake up, trembling from anxiety. Feeling like she would get crushed any second. (That her life would fade like a flame between her hands)
"Hey, hermanita," Luisa shook her head, pulling Mirabel closer. Allowing the younger girl's head to rest on her shoulder. Mirabel shut her eyes, trying to block out the sight of a chattered cup on the stairs. Black liquid spilled around it.
Why did Luisa even bother? Mirabel wasn't getting better. No matter how many times they assured her that Casita was steady, she kept waking up with racing heart. Panic was strangling her at every sound. This wasn't normal, was it? It wasn’t okay, nothing was ever okay. Mirabel was stuck in the past without a way out. Everyone else moved on and Mirabel still heard a deafening noises of Bruno’s tower falling down
"No houses will collapse on you," Luisa assured her, voice twitching. She bit her lip, looking to the side to think. "Or if it does then I'll throw the fucking thing out of Encanto."
There was no need to do this. But, at the moment Mirabel curled against her sister's side, wanting for nothing more than to feel the warm safety of her presence that nobody else could have. She never understood why Luisa put so much trust on her. But regardless, Mirabel found it hard not to feel sleepy in the big gentle arms. Luisa should go to sleep, instead of dealing with her. Mirabel was practically an adult, it was selfish wanting Luisa to babysit her.
Here it goes again. Self-hatred. Wasn’t there supposed to be some character development that Mirabel didn’t feel like she doesn’t deserve love? “I just want to stop feeling like such a wreck.” Nobody would believe Mirabel if she told them. She was seeing thing that weren’t real, but her head was convinced they were. The pain. The fear. This deep feeling that she would get crushed at any moment soon. Just be normal and… forget. But it didn’t seem she ever would.
“It will get better,” Luisa tried to assure her, but it didn’t stop the knot in Mirabel’s stomach. Weight like a rock inside of her. “It’s okay to be stressed.” Mirabel wanted to protest but bit her tongue. Luisa was somehow a nervous wreck too. And if Mirabel said it wasn’t Luisa might think Mirabel belittled her emotions or anxiety. “Really, you’re doing great.” The older get pulled Mirabel, cradling her in her arms. Like an infant, but with their size difference, Mirabel could as well look like one.
“I’m tired.” Mirabel whispers, looking nowhere. Not physically tired from bad sleep, but deeply exhausted mentally. Always so tense and afraid of dying. She wanted to be safe again. And even Luisa’s assurance that it would pass doesn’t really help either.
“Do you want to sleep?” Nods, Mirabel wasn’t the one to stay up late. Luisa shifts her in her arms and carries Mirabel away from her room. Teenager lets out a surprised sound, Luisa wasn’t supposed to go here. “How about you stay with me for a night?”
Mirabel sighed, she had to admit that sleep next to Luisa was safer. If Casita collapsed, the older girl could just carry her out. She didn’t feel like she could fall asleep, but she would take this chance. She curled in Luisa's arms "Sorry for this"
Luisa wrapped her tighter. "Don't worry, I would want you to rest well"
Problem shared
It's been years. And they don't talk about Bruno. No matter how much Isabela wonders of what possibly made him run away without saying a word

Talking about why she was so worried at the last night wasn't in Isabela's to-do list. But it wasn't like she had much place to go to. And even if the magical rooms were big, they only had so much space.
It's been years. What Isabela knew wasn't important. Nobody remembered anyway. They didn't talk about Bruno, he was a shame of the family. For not being strong enough. For leaving all this mess behind him. And even if it still was painful, even if Isabela was desperate to know, nobody would allow her. She knew she shouldn't know about thay one vison at all. It was a mere accident because she was too restless to stay in her bed. And nobody talked about it. Even if almost everyone knew. Abuelo was the one to ask. Luisa was present at the moment. And later her cousin (whom she had told about what she had heard) confirmed adults gossiped about it. Which only left Camilo and Mirabel. And with Camilo she wasn't even sure.
Of course, this all was a long time ago. Now they didn't talk about Bruno. And about that vision that was never found. Growing up, Isabela had wondered many times, what could there possibly be. The silent shadow of uncertainty grew behind her, heavy and static. Because Isabela wanted an answer but it wasn't here. They don't talk about Bruno after all. Everything was normal. Well, until yesterday (Isabela still can't believe Mirabel tried to ruin the party like this).
It didn't really mean anything. They didn't talk about Bruno and Isabela didn't talk about thay vision. Didn't even talk of how she knew it existed.
"Get out. I have to get ready." Isabela snarled. Today was her proposal, she was supposed to prepare, it was very important day. No time for some childish nonsense whatever Mirabel had imagined herself. Everything was good... There was nothing wrong. Nothing was ever wrong.
"Just tell me what's going on! Your big himbo won't dissapear!" Mirabel rolls her eyes. Did she have to be so damn annoying exactly today? It was as if she purposely was getting on Isabela's nerves.
The neirons heated, running agains the bottled anger. Isabela already was frustrated, Mirabel didn't have to fuck with her even more.
That's okay... Everything's fine... At least when she's married, Abuelo would probably leave all this irrational protectiveness to Mariano. This was always Isabela's point to marry despite the fact she didn't want to. Get some sense of isolation and so maybe Abuelo's focus would leave her for somebody else. Just maybe because Isabela knew damn well there weren't that many candidates. Camilo and Antonío were boys and Luisa was... well, Luisa. Which only left Dolores and Mirabel.
"Isa, just tell me what's going on? Is there something wrong with the magic?" Mirabel yapped, making Isabela roll her eyes. Couldn't she choose even worse time. "Your himbo won't dissapear if you just give a minute of your precious time."
"I don't want to marry him!" Isabela yelled, predator vines crawled around the room, thickening and swelling.
Mirabel blinked, pulling away. Isabela's toe rubbed against the soil under fer feet. A low growl left her lips as she tried her best to contain herself. "I just want for Abuelo to stop treating me like a toddler."
There was the root of the problem. As much as she loved her family, this helicopter parenting did annoy her. Leaving a better taste of frustration in her palms. Feeling like she couldn't be independent or deserving of trust. And to remind, she was a literal adult.
Mirabel tilted her head, fixing her giant glasses. Green frame shone bright. Matching the stems of endless flowers growing around.
"This is what I'm working for."
Isabela stalled, her arms stopping in the air as she trew a quick look over her shoulder. "What?"
Mirabel dug her small fingers into the delicate fabric of her skirt. "If I manage to discover what's wrong, maybe Abuelo will realize we aren't that weak to need a constant help with everything." Teenager reached, taking Isabela's warm hand.
Ohh, yes! Isabela exhaled in pure excitement that filled up her veins, getting deeper with every breathe. She screeched, jumping from emotions as Mirabel gasped, clearly startled. Glasses almost falling off her nose.
Mirabel had always been the one whom Abuelo had portrayed like the weakest between the entire family. The poor giftless lamb. So if Abuelo saw her succeeding in something even remotely dangerous, if he realized Mirabel wasn't as weak as he thought she was... He would certainly loosen his grip on Isabela too. (Well, maybe not but it was really her best shot)
The thing, whatever was going on with the magic was their window to freedom. And if there was a chance to climb on that tree, Isabela wouldn't jump off it. Because nobody knew if there would ever be a second chance. If Isabela wanted a change, she had to act. Or... well, just the act
"Tio Bruno had a vision before he left." Isabela nodded. She didn't know if it was related. There was no way to tell, nobody had found it, as far as Dolores was aware.
Teenager winced, mouth opening a bit as she flopped her eyelashes. "What vision? What had he seen?" She breathed out, pulling the teal fabric of her skirt.
Isabela shrugged. "No fucking idea, sis." As far as Isabela was aware, the family gave up on the truth ages ago. Because otherwise everyone would know what exactly tio saw. This family couldn't keep secrets for life.
"Language!"
"Spanish" Isabela clarified almost instinctively.
She knew Mirabel didn't remember Tio well, she could barely remember any interaction between them. But for now it was their best shot. "So how about you go to Tio's room? I'll distract Abuelo."
Some thought but did you ever think there was a chance Luisa WASN'T the only one to lose her gift for a bit during Antonío's ceremony? It wasn't only her door that flickered during the ceremony (and as we can see from the next day when Luisa had troubles with her gift, it began to flicker again)
Isabela, Camilo, Julieta and Antonío would all need to use their gifts in very specific shot of time to know of any problem. And as far as we can see, they all are just dancing and partying. Yes, Julieta does have food but we don't see anyone being actually injured and needing healing. (Assuming they can't really feel their gifts presense in some way). So if nobody had used their gifts, it's possible they didn't know it happened at all
Pepa is a bit more tricky, she doesn't really control her power. But here again comes the fact that even in other scenes we don't see Pepa always with clouds or rainbows. So when emotions aren't too intense it can be controlled
Luisa and Dolores both have the most physical gifts out of the family, which they seem to be using by default. Unable not to. So both of them had the best chance to feel the problem. Again, there's the fact we don't see Dolores saying a word about her hearing being weaker at any moment. But do you think how loud the party would be even without superhearing? Plus Luisa was clearly shown to have some form of anxiety, which does riggle wirh her perception and overthinking of what this all could mean. Or Dolores just wasn't comfortable enough to talk with Mirabel. Tho she's still the one harder to pin than the rest of the family
