I think what people want, if I may be so bold, is real change. They want someone who:
- supports universal health care
- safe boarder crossings that are demilitarized
- universal basic income
- free higher education
- a 100% tax on all income that exceeds one million dollars annually (or some other thing that makes billionaires impossible)
- absolute support for prison abolition
- clear, loud opposition to genocide abroad and a stated plan to stop using US tax dollars to fund it
- massive reductions in military spending in general
These would be the kinds of stances that would make people unhappy about voting for Harris happy. They would make me happy. As it is, I too am merely doing my harm reduction duty.
Why do you need us to be HAPPY about voting for Harris? Because you hope it will signal that all is well in the world and you can go back to not being very engaged in the struggle?
I see posts going "Okay, I'll vote for Kamala, I GUESS IF I HAVE TO" and "omg if that's the best we can do I suppose I'll support it" and I'm like...
What do you people fucking WANT?
Let's run down how she's rated politically by some organizations that we vibe with, kay?
ACLU = 93% on civil liberties
AFL-CIO = 100% on trade unions
Human Rights Campaign = 100% on queer rights
League of Conservation Voters = 91% on environmentalism
NARAL = 100% on reproductive rights
NRA Fund = 7% on gun rights (we LIKE a low score on this one)
NEA = 100% on education
Planned Parenthoos = 100% on reproductive rights
In addition, GovTrack (which is a nonpartisan tracker) places her in the MOST politically left-leaning categories of Senators. So we've got a very liberal, woman of color who's spent her career trying to mitigate draconian tough-on-crime laws to benefit the accused and keep black people out of prison and decrease recidivism and that's somehow...just barely tolerable.
So I ask again...what is that you're dissatisfied with? Is it Palestine? as recently as March she was calling for a ceasefire and demanding aid to Gaza. Keep in mind she's pretty constrained as to what's possible to do in this situation.
Is it just that she was a prosecutor? That is an important job that needs to be done and we WANT people doing it who aren't rah-rah tough-on-crime Gestapo types, which she is not. We need prosecutors who are addressing the root causes of crime and looking for ways to help people escape the cycle, which she has done to the point that she was often called SOFT on crime.
So what is your objection here? Is it that her politics aren't 100% aligned with a bunch of Tumblr socialists? I got news for you...we Tumblr socialists DO NOT REPRESENT THE ELECTORATE. If such a candidate existed, they would not win.
Democrats struggle sometimes because our tent is large. Republicans just want you if you're a straight white man and preferably rich. There's room for a lot more types in the lefty side, but sadly that means a lot of room also for dissention among the ranks. This is how they get us. Let's not let them, huh? Just a suggestion.

At least SOMETHING comes standard on a cyber truck. They’d make wheels a paid extra if they thought they could get away with it.

Yes AND binary trans people are not our enemies. They may sometimes be myopic about their own struggles but ultimately we are on the same side of “fuck compulsory gender”. I think like many things it’s a lack of understanding of a perspective you don’t have that leads to not understanding the support that other group needs.
Some binary trans people need to spend more time learning about nonbinary trans people. Asking when you’re not sure is a great impulse that just needs to be expanded on. Since nonbinary people exist and there is no way to be androgynous according to our current society, you can’t ever be sure, so ask!
No matter how hard I try to “present nonbinary” my diminutive stature, voice tone and body shape leads me to continually get “female”. Even with my prominently displayed they/them pin I get constantly misgendered.
All people need to learn that gender is not binary. I feel being especially disheartened by the lack of understanding from people who should be in your own community. There will always be people who aren’t in the right place to take in perspectives that differ from their own regardless of the community. I also see that some binary trans people are just trying to do for others what they want done for themselves. It’s demoralizing to them to be asked their pronouns when they want to be automatically recognized as their gender, so asking may seem rude.
Hopefully they will come around to understanding that asking is not a sign of someone being skeptical of that person’s gender but rather an acknowledgment that gender is complicated and nuanced so asking is a celebration of our shared disdain for the unfairly narrow definition of gender we currently experience.
binary transgender person: i just use pronouns according to people's gender presentation and ask when i'm not sure.
me: this still doesn't leave space for nonbinary people though because perfect androgyny is impossible. it also doesn't leave space for any gnc people either. me wearing earrings and a dress isn't an invitation to call me she/her. you're still misgendering people.
binary transgender person: how dare nonbinary people speak over trans women??
if your binarity is so fragile that you think us wanting to be recognised and pointing out you're advocating for mass misgendering is "talking over trans women" then i can't help you
and we all know it's code for "how dare these fake transes talk over us real transsexuals?!"
meanwhile binary transgender people constantly use their binary privilege to erase us and silence us, to throw us under the bus so they can get the advantages of cisnormativity. they're not even "talking over us" because we don't even get a proper voice.
I’m not “Team Blue” so much as “Team not those fuckers” but as we saw in the French election a collation of team blue and team not those fuckers will also get the job done.
It’s like he said “who will help me the most with my weak points in the suburbs, women and minorities” and then picked the man who charted negative on all three
I mean, it would have been considerably more concerning if he picked Haley (who took a solid 20-25% of GOP voters from him in each primary), as that would up the odds that the Haley voters would return to the fold instead of sitting it out or voting for Biden. Tim Scott might also make sense if they actually thought there was a real chance to increase the Black vote (though we hear every single election about how the GOP is going to up their minority outreach, but it turns out that weaponized white-nationalist fascism isn't exactly compatible with that).
But, because Trump is deeply racist, sexist, and misogynist to the depths of his miserable fraudulent rapist heart, there was no way his ego would suffer picking Haley, no matter how much of an asset she would have been, and likewise with picking Scott. So he picks the most unlikeable white-boy turd in the pot, and you know what? I support them in doing absolutely nothing to increase their vote share and just consolidating the white man Christian nationalist Trumpy base, which is not enough to win an election if all of Team Blue votes (and we fucking well better). Just saying.
Tumblr is the VHS format of the internet. When a link sends me to one of those other places I think, “it will just be on Tumblr in a few hours. I can wait and see it at home.”

“How can she think I’m evil?” Says the man who wasn’t there for her as a child and now takes every possible opportunity to misgendered her, make shit up about her childhood he wasn’t there for and attempt to gaslighting her out of her own gender.
It must be the communism. 🤷
