The irony is, judging by what we can see on socmed, the target audience is mostly teenage girls or young women for the most part, not mature Armys… lol. That says it all for me. I’m with you anon. There is so much interesting music out there. I think it’s all the younger y/n crowd that are eating this up. It does feel like a rite of passage for him doesn’t it? It reminds me of western artists like Miley Cyrus during her sexual and rebellious phase after she was done with Disney. That’s how this feels with JK. Sure, hes a lot older but he was also part of a fandom and an industry that infantilized him for so long. I’ve never called JK a baby or anything like that or denied that he is a sexual being, but many have. I think he was fed up with that image which is understandable. But the direction of these two releases is not how I expected him to express it.

I genuinely feel like even jk himself is not happy with the direction his solo career is going in. There is a vibe going on with him that tells me he is not satisfied. And it’s not about breaking the record or whatever that bullshit is. Like I feel he genuinely doesn’t like this. But maybe someone is pushing him to take that route and he agreed because he doesn’t know his style yet. Idk man I just had high expectations for his solo career and that’s on me but what are WE gonna do…

There is a part of me that can see this especially after the Global Citizen show. His energy looked off to me and like he wasn’t having as much fun as he did for GMA. Maybe it was the crappy weather again or something, but I wonder if he’s happy with it too. I don’t think he’s some kind of puppet on a string being told what to do, but like I’ve been saying, the entirety of 3D has felt very forced.

i don't know who put this idea on his head, that he needs to look like a bad fuckboy to appear more grown up, but honestly? it's giving the opposite effect. he looks lost and, frankly, a little too desperate.

Love what you said about maturity doesn’t mean telling us that you have sex everyday and shoving it in our faces. That’s how I feel. Maturity is how you express yourself in your words, actions, thoughts, and feelings. And lately, JK has been all over the place with this in my opinion.

I’m over the sexy concept too. SO. MUCH. JK is beautiful. He’s stunning to look at. We know he’s sexy. The direction of this solo music feels lost to me too. Especially because this is his debut. No, not every song has to be the most meaningful poetic song ever, but I would have thought that for JK’s first time expressing himself outside of BTS, he would have put more of his heart and soul into his artistry. I’ve been wondering if this is because of the looming military service because otherwise idk how to explain it.

Wanted to add that I watched his performance with Latto and I didn’t get the vibe that he was ogling her at all. It gave me nothing on that end. However, I do agree that I could see this be him saying that he is not afraid of women anymore.

Same. I’m glad people like the song and don’t find it problematic. I don’t like it, and I find it gross. I’m allowed to feel that way and express my opinion. I won’t be listening to it again, and I don’t have to. This fandom loves to bully each other. I won’t tolerate it on my blog.

Just a few random thoughts. Personally I think Jungkook is sincere and isn’t playing a role right now. I think he tends to be a bit impulsive and obsessive when he has something in his mind. Nowadays, he wants to make sure we don’t see him as a teenager and the forever maknae. I never took him for a baby, I’m well aware he’s 26 now and he’s a grown ass man, hell I’m older than him 😅 So I don’t exactly get why he’s so hell-bent on that. For a while now the fandom has been mostly thirsting over him and noticing how much he has grown up. I think Jimin is being babied a lot in comparison. Or maybe that’s just in my circles? But I respect what he feels and the direction he wants to take. I don’t like it, because for this chapter 2 I was looking for something a bit more personal from each member, a way to connect to each one of them. And so far it has been the case, except for him. Which makes me a bit sad as he is one of my bias, along with Jimin and Hobi. Hopefully one day he’ll get back to writing his own songs because it’s when I connect to him the most, but it’s not his goal at the moment and I respect that.

That being said I truly hope we’ll get at least one ballad from him on his album, and no more featuring… it’s the 3rd one now, 4th if we add Dreamers but that was a special song, and like many of your previous anons I’m losing interest. My excitement for his album has worn off. With Left and Right then Seven and now 3D it’s getting a bit too much, all over the place and lacking some sort of uniqueness. I want to hear Jeon Jungkook, not another western perfectly-pre-packaged production that could have been given to any other pop artist. I’m not really seeing a multiple-dimension Jungkook right now, which is fine but just not suited for I expect from the artists I follow. I wonder if the debates around his songs stems from the way we engage with music in general. I’m going to be honest but personally I don’t stream. I’ve never and I won’t, it’s not the way I like to consume music. Actually, I don’t ‘consume’ music. I don’t listen to the radio, I carefully pick up and choose what I listen to. I guess music is serious business for me hahaha and not something I listen to casually? It’s not some background noise for when I do this and that, I like to really sit down and listen. Does that sound stupid? I don’t know. Sorry, I’m rambling. I’m not against a fun summer hit here and there but I guess I’m a bit of a snob. I’m also very picky about the lyrics and I too find 3D gross, and I won’t apologize for it. It’s definitely not subtle and not even sensual. And I don’t have a problem with sexual songs, heck one of my favorite artists is french singer Serge Gainsbourg, if you know you know ;)

To sum it up, I’m having mixed feelings. I love Jungkook, so I will listen to his album and if he’s happy then I’m happy for him but as an artist right now, his music is not for me anymore and it makes me a tad bit sad. But eh, we still have his previous songs to go back to :)

Whew, if you weren’t an anon and I knew your identity, I would say that we could be friends. I very much so hold a lot of these opinions. JK has one of the best vocals in the business BAR NONE. No one not even the kpoppies can dismiss that fact. Yet, these songs don’t showcase that??? They are songs that anyone could sing. Sure, JK has some great ad libs here and there. There is arguably nothing wrong with the way that he sounds but it’s also not remarkable or impressive vocally in my opinion.

I also don’t consume music. I too am older anon. I’m 30 almost 31 and I listen to what I like. One of the things I like and admire a lot is excellent, lush songwriting. You want a stunning hetero sexual song about sex with women? Work Song by Hozier or really any song by Hozier. I also admire the lyrics of Frank Ocean in the R&B scene, Kendrick Lamar in the Rap genre, and indie girls like Phoebe Bridgers and Lana Del Rey. All of these are just to name a few. Western music can be high quality and have amazing lyrics. I get that JK is going for mass general population appeal, so that’s why this doesn’t resonanate with me. I can be pretty snobby too. In fact, a lot of the music I love is what Joon shares to his stories and as we know, he’s one of the lyrical masterminds behind BTS.

I also love Jungkook and I’ll continue to love him even if I’m not going to listen to 3D and Seven on repeat. I will of course listen to his solo album too when it comes out. I fear it will be more of the same which isn’t my taste, but that’s okay. And it’s okay to like it. I’m one of those people that really likes to dive into songs lyrically. Some people don’t care about lyrics. The lyrics more than anything are what drew me to BTS in the first place. JK wants to be a different kind of solo pop star. That’s fine, I’ll just wait until he’s back in the studio with his band mates producing songs that I know will be fire and I won’t care what the general public thinks about those.

I agree. It’s not the subject matter of sex that I have a problem with. It’s how manufactured and impersonal it feels. Hell, if JK needed to sing about hetero sex there are better songs that do just that. Idk it probably comes down to it not being my taste. And I know he wants to be Harry Styles level huge (I say him because he’s the only really huge male pop star right now in the west) but I wish he wanted to stick to his roots a little bit more that’s all.

One of the things that I have been struggling to figure out regarding JK’s preferred way to solo debut is the timing. With military service eminent and probably very soon, what was the reason to try to launch a huge solo career when he will be out of the minds of the general public for 18 months and then reunited with his band mates after??? Something the general public has already made it clear they don’t have any space or respect for, BTS. It just doesn’t make sense. I get the ambition he has at his own personal level but this as a strategy? What is it actually accomplishing?

I had an anon comment about how they believe JK was pushed into going this route by Hybe and a person whose name goes by a method of transportation. I don’t think that necessarily. The truth is always somewhere in the gray. We saw JK going from sad and lonely on his couch to living his best introvert life on the couch exercising and eating chicken and flirting with Jimin in his lives. For the most part, he seemed happy to get a break. Part of me wonders if he kind of was burnt out creatively, says to his team I have nothing in the tank, nothing I want to write or say, so this was the compromise? I don’t think he’s completely comfortable in this solo era. He’s nervous to perform, he’s nervous about his English. He’s separated from his support system.

I think the truth us probably somewhere in the gray. JK probably does want to try different styles, push himself further, but I also think he may have not been ready and was nudged to do this now because it’s the perfect opportunity with bandmates already serving. These are just my thoughts. While I adore the black and white couple, I hate black and white thinking. That’s not reality. It’s not all in that JK wanted to be a huge pop star and get fed songs from Western producers and features form artists he barely knows and hasn’t been vocal about even liking unlike Charlie Puth, but it’s not the complete opposite either that he is being controlled and forced to do this by Hybe ect. This is all my rumination and opinion. Feel free to take it for what it’s worth which is nothing because I’m just a no body fan, but there is an element to this that I will repeat again: feels forced.

I was discussing about it with my partner and this is exactly what he suggested to me. Maybe he was suffering from the blank page syndrome, which I guess is bound to happen to all artists at some point in their career. I feel like he enjoyed his break very much until some turning point and he got more and more anxious as time was passing by. The pressure must be have been unreal (+ it’s obvious to me he was missing Jimin deeply and having a hard time being separated from him but this is another topic) He was witnessing all his hyungs releasing their albums, going through promotion and doing great, and I’m sure he was trying to write songs but nothing was really sticking and working as he wanted it to be? It’s what I’m getting from the interview released earlier today. I think V was going through the exact same process, he did say he wrote songs but then deleted them because he wasn’t happy with it and started from 0 again. That could also explained how the two of them got closer again the first semester of the year. Sharing this obstacle together might have been a huge relief. I guess it wasn’t an easy experience to go through. I think at some point they decided to take a whole new direction and asked for help? They probably still had a rough idea of what they were going for but the production and artistic teams put that into songs and concepts. The lack of a clear direction is common for both in my opinion. I liked Layover but it missed something more personal, and so far I feel the same with Jungkook’s solo releases. This is total speculation though, don’t take this too seriously!

I’m really leaning towards this being the most obvious answer based on his behavior at the beginning of the year. I also think he probably really wanted a break being the youngest with as much pressure as he had on his shoulders all those years. Because otherwise the timing doesn’t make sense. It was no surprise that if one of them would be a breakout star, it would be JK (Jimin could too but he’s not as into the idea of the western market) so for JK to release his music so late to me says that he wasn’t feeling it. Either he wasn’t coming up with anything he liked or he simply didn’t want to. I’m sure he does want to break into the western market and he’s not lying about that. I just think there is more to the story especially with the timing of his releases if that was truly his goal.

People on Xwitter are dying to defend this song, but I opened the 3D discussion on Reddit and everybody pretty much agreed that JH's verse was terrible. I guess I'm not crazy just in the wrong social media lmao. I think here is the same, I didn't see a lot of praises (unless they were JH fans before this collab).

I agree. The funny thing is though, I don’t like the song at all. Not the version without JH too. It’s just a miss for me all around. So, me? I’m pretending like it doesn’t exist. Kinda like JK at this point 🤭 I find it sus that he has not posted anything about it on Weverse or gone live. Just because he did the song doesn’t mean that he loves it. I totally agree with you. I don't understand why people cannot sense that when I say I do not like JH's verse, I'm also including jk in it. Oh we aren’t safe, anon. My spaces are pretty curated, but the discourse I’ve seen today makes me feel very invalidated as an ace person. JK has the freedom to sing as much about sex as he wants, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it and listen to it during the limited free time I have during the day. Especially when I know that these were words that some other person wrote and Jungkook was just handed them to sing. Smoking is huge in Korea. It’s an appetite suppressant, and skinny is extremely glorified there, so smoking equals less food (don’t even get me started). And their work culture is super toxic capitalism that glorifies working super long hours, so smoking allows for breaks and is a means to cope with stress. Alcohol consumption is huge there too not just celebs everyone. So yeah, there is no correlation. Plus, our little introvert likes to drink at home. I’m sure he goes out sometimes, but Jungkook seems to be a homebody like me. But sure, he’s meeting all these women at clubs and bars and hooking up way them in the name of “fuckboy lifestyle”. I’ll say it again, that I think his musical direction lately caused an uptick in these people. They are discovering him for the first time, seeing him hip thrusting on stage, singing hetero songs, and declaring that as who he is off stage too.
