Genetic Prisoners

I need to vent because this is straight up keeping me awake right now. I am so sick and tired of the complete and utter lack of allowance for self-ownership, personal boundaries, common decency, and basic respect, adults have for children. Simply because you gave the generic material to give them life, does not in fact give you the right to own them. What a concept! They are in fact their own person! You can make up any excuses you want but let me be clear, you decided to accept any and all responsibilities to keeping them alive, healthy, and given the best chance at life. That’s what you owe them, for agreeing to have them exist. They owe you nothing in return for that. Nothing. That’s entirely on you. If you feel like that’s too much for you with out getting something from them, including the right to control them? You shouldn’t have had kids. Abuse is abuse. Hiding a camera to record your teenage kid? Creepy. And a huge breach of their trust. They now are stripped of the comfort of feeling safe when no one is around. Your child has come to you and asked you to stop smoking in the home. Telling them it’s your house and none of their business? Rude and deregards their right to respect in a shared space, ownership of their bodies, and takes away their choices for their health. LGBT+ children attempt to come out and are ridiculed or underminded. you are again taking away their allowance to be an individual person with their own choices about who they want to be. There is so much more. Children are not your prisoners. They are there because you accepted the responsibility of bringing life into the world. They are not meant to be forced into a mold of your choosing. They are meant to be guided, but allowed bloom into whoever they turn out to be.
