Ooo yay. Finally more Ackerman lore talk! I’ve mentioned before, but I continually wonder about their origins and have some theories- so I LOVE when its mentioned in any capacity. It’s one of my favorite things to discuss. Here are my quick, initial thoughts! Not proofread because I’m at work & want to get this out lol.

These panels are exciting, since we have seen plenty of theories that whoever triggers the “awakening” in an Ackerman bonds them, making them a prisoner of sorts to their mind/DNA. This disproves that, which I’m so happy about, as it finally rids us of the idea that the 2 we have of act out of some sort of slave-like devotion to another (Mikasa to Eren, Levi to his promise to Erwin). They do so on their own will. Awakened (seemingly) by another yes, but acting on their own.

I always disliked the idea that the three Ackermans we’ve seen that we know are “awakened” all acted mainly out of some form of devotion to another. This group of people are blessed (?) with heightened abilities and honed skills which they are the sole controller of. They are acting on their own free will. Mikasa protects Eren because she cares. Levi hunts down the Beast Titan because he wants to finish what he set out to do (and rightfully hates Zeke).

I hope going forward with what’s left, we stop seeing Levi and Mikasa as semi-shallow characters acting on instinct and instead as independent characters doing what they see as just. I’m sure they both have a million feelings to process right now.
