VENUS ARRIVES AT MAMA 2021 !

STEPPING ONTO THE CARPET WITH THEIR LEADER IN FRONT, HERE’S A LOOK INTO VENUS’ MAMA 2021!

constellations were SO mad at this styling. 

BAEBI and JIAH stepped out first, walking together hand in hand, making fans think it was just them attending until the other three followed behind them in identical gowns.

the gowns were stunning and the girls looked beautiful but there was obvious favoritism with the outfits.

their makeup was pretty simple. glowy and shimmery, lots of shimmer on the eyes. simple nude or pink lips. very pretty.

BAEBI handled most of the speeches though it looked like she didn’t really want to. most of the time, she’d pass it to AKI when she’d run out of things to say.

there was a lot of focus on BAEBI during the ceremony though she tried to get her members into frame whenever the camera was on her.

the girls looked pretty bored during the performances besides jiah but jiah’s always living life at a ten.

they just all looked like they had something on their minds.

on the plus side, they won: Best Female Group & Best Dance Performance! and BAEBI won Best Female Artist!

the performance started with BAEBI’S SOLO “NOT COOL” then transitioned into NO MOONS song “DUMB DUMB” before finally going into “ASAP” with all the girls on stage.

the stage was very bright and colorful, lots of fun and funky lighting and props, it was very cute n’ quirky looking!

the performance was very good though. everyone was high energy and their vocals were INSANELY stable for all the dancing they were doing.

constellations were still so mad over the obvious favoritism they started trending “#VENUSisFIVE” 

a lot of misplaced anger directed towards baebi but she never addressed it.

the performance sits at 12 MILLION VIEWS on youtube.

all the girls posted on their stories after the performance thanking their constellations for the awards and love.

OVERALL, it was really weird for the girls and the fans. while many were happy to see the girls together and performing, a lot were upset by how blatant the favoritism towards baebi was. many constellations either ignored this event or tried to focus on the positive, but many say it left an uneasy feeling in their stomachs.

✷ || PLANET OF LOVE is the SECOND full album by VENUS, released by ANGELICO Entertainment on January 7 2022. It’s available digitally and physically, and has NINE tracks with “YOU MAKE ME” being its title track. VENUS promoted the album for a month and two weeks in which they performed each track on the album at least once.

“YOU MAKE ME ” received FOURTEEN music show wins. They posted daily on their Youtube channel, held seven virtual fansigns as well as four in person ones, and appeared on various variety shows as a group. The members also had some solo promotions, multiple members taking on MC gigs during the promotional period.

––– the whole album was made in house, becoming almost a revolving door for angelico artists. aki produced “i’m the best” and “liar”, saying they’re some of her proudest work. finn of deepdive produced and wrote “sweet temptation” and “you make me” while “i got a boy” was produced by sns’s mika and “boyfriend” was produced by sns’s piper ( @snspice​ ). it’s unknown who produced “vanilla” and “lucky lucky” though some speculate it was another deepdive boy going under a pseudonym.

––– the girls were working this era, constantly doing something. you’d look to your left and see a venus member, to your right another on, looking up? one would be there too. you could not escape the venus girls, this album and them were everywhere.

––– it was kind of a controversial album, many saying it was too noisy and oddly old school for an album made in 2022. while others say it’s revolutionary, mixing in old and new kpop into one album. it’s constantly being debated if the album is good or people just love venus.

––– another thing that got people talking was the styling. most of it being reds or pinks, many believing to be a response at the fans who got upset over baebi being the only one dressed in red during the mama performance. all the girls wore either red, black, pinks, or whites this era, not much variety in color. 

––– the energy was very...awkward at times. it was pretty clear there was some tension between the girls and chloe, no matter how hard they tried to hide it and they really tried to hide it. by the end of the era, there were ten minute long compilations of baebi glaring at chloe or ignoring her. because of this, chloe did a lot of solo activities to promote the album so people would stop talking about the weird dynamic right now.

––– they got a lil reality show called “venus! planet of love!” and it was really cute! they went camping, to the beach, did some crafts, wrote each other heartfelt letters, cried, it was really cute and did assure fans they were still friends. it had a twelve episode run and was posted on their youtube channel. 

––– chloe sat out a few performances towards the end due to an unknown injury. she said she fell down some stairs and hit her head and also fractured her wrist. constellations trended “GetWellSoonChloe” when the news dropped.

––– there was no mention of the scandal at all. they always ignored questions about it or if they were asked about it, which angelico made sure that didn’t happen more often than not, they would always dodge the question. baebi’s go to answer would always be: “we’re sisters and sisters fight. it’s how things go.”

––– it was a pretty good era despite everything that happened leading up to it, constellations still fought for their lives on twitter but it went a lot better than everyone thought it would!

“Did you go to your appointment yesterday?” 

Jacob doesn’t look up from his bowl of cereal, his spoon clacking against the ceramic bowl, making Chloe internally cringe every time she hears it. She doesn’t let any of his discomfort show. Just puts a pleasant smile on her face for her brother.

Jacob shakes his head.

“No,” Jacob answers after a few beats of silence. Chloe blinks, trying not to let the disappointment show on her face, but it shines through in her eyes. She clears her throat, looking down at her untouched bowl of fruit.

“Why not?” She asks quietly. Jacob shrugs.

“It doesn’t help.”

“You’ve only been once,” Chloe simply replies, looking up at her brother who sighs through his nose. “It won’t get better if you–”

“If I don’t what? Try? Do you think I’m not trying?” That’s an easy question to answer. No, he’s not trying. He’s sinking further and further into his depression every time Chloe comes to see him. She remembers how Jacob used to look. Skin clear, eyes bright, dark hair healthy and put together. Now, it seems like every visit he just gets more and more unkempt. Dark circles under his eyes, his skin dull, and hair never combed or washed. 

She’s started texting Noah to check if her brother has showered that day or not. It’s usually a no and an offer for him to help Jacob out. Chloe always accepts it. Without Noah’s help, she’s pretty sure Jacob would’ve stopped showering weeks ago.

Jacob isn’t trying. Jacob’s complicit in his own suffering. It’s taking everything in Chloe to not just say that to him.

“Not hard enough,” Chloe simply says, watching Jacob’s reaction. He says nothing, he doesn’t even look hurt, just annoyed. He pushes himself away from the table, standing and pointing at the bowl of milk.

“I ate my breakfast. You can stop playing babysitter now until lunch.”

“Jacob–”

“I didn’t ask for you to do this, Chloe,” Jacob snaps at her, walking over to her side of the table, pointing his finger in her face. She shuts her eyes, turning her head away from him. “I didn’t ask for you to constantly breathe down my neck because I’m a little depressed. You–”

“You’ve been cutting your–”

“That’s not your problem,” Jacob sharply interrupts, causing her to shake her head, looking away from him completely. “It was never your problem until you made it your problem. It was my business–”

“Okay, Jacob.” Chloe says quietly, waving her white flag before he can go on his ‘this isn’t your problem’ tirade again. She can’t sit through it a tenth time. She just lets him have this one. Chloe stands picking up her bowl of fruit, still untouched, and his bowl of milk. “You’re right. I’m sorry.” She says like she’s reading from a script. He knows she doesn’t mean it but neither of them pushes further on it.

“Don’t forget to brush your teeth,” Is all Chloe says before walking into the kitchen, putting her brother’s soiled bowl in the sink. There’s a small pile of dishes in there already, her hands move before she even thinks, turning the water on hot. Silently, she moves each dish under the hot water, rising it before putting the blue dish soap over it and scrubbing with a sponge, then putting it back under. She does this for what feels like hours, the water getting more hot with every passing second and her eyes getting wetter with each plate she cleans.

When she gets to the last plate, a small one, her hands shake and a quiet sob leaves her lips. It’s been weeks and it feels like she’s gotten nowhere, that Jacob has gotten nowhere, nothing has changed and it feels like it will never change.

Her hands start to burn from how hot the water is but she doesn’t move her hands, just keeps them under it, crying quietly.

“Are you okay?” A voice rings through the kitchen, making Chloe jump and turn the sink off, shaking her red hands off quickly. Water drops fly in every which direction as she blinks hard a few times, trying to get the rest of her tears to disappear before she turns towards the voice.

“Yeah,” Chloe assures Haneul with a smile, looking the boy up and down before drying her hands on her jeans. “Yeah, I’m fine.” 

Haneul looks her up and down, face unbelieving as they stand together in the kitchen. He sighs through his nose.

“It’s Jacob, isn’t it?”

Chloe sniffles, looking away. The last thing she wants is some boy she barely knows seeing her cry, but she can feel herself cracking as she bites the inside of her cheek.

“I’m sorry, Chloe.” Is all Haneul says because that’s all he can say. They both know how Jacob is and how he’s doing. He’s never going to get better, not like this. Chloe just can’t swallow that pill. It makes her choke up, resting her head on the tips of her fingers.

“It just isn’t getting better and I don’t know how else to help him,” Chloe whispers, sniffling as hot tears run down her cheeks. Silently, Haneul takes Chloe into his arms, engulfing her in a hug she didn’t know she needed until now. 

Chloe wraps her arms around the man’s torso, letting her head fall against his chest, sobbing quietly as he rubs her back softly.

“He just needs to realize you’re helping not hurting,” Haneul explains, holding her a bit tighter as she presses her face deeper into his chest. “It takes a while. Even then, some days are harder than others,” He sounds like he’s speaking from experience, she wonders who in his life was like Jacob.

Chloe takes a deep breath, resting her cheek against his chest.

“He deserves to be happy,” Chloe whispers, slowly detaching herself from Haneul as his arms slide off her. When she’s back in front of him, he reaches over and wipes her wet cheeks with his thumb, catching any tears that still slip from her glassy eyes.

Chloe shakes her head, looking down.

“I just want him to be happy,” Chloe says with a swallow, causing Haneul to take her cheek into his palm lifting her head gently. He wipes her tears with his thumb before his hands go to her scalp, soothing down her hair in smooth downward motion that brings Chloe an odd feeling of comfort. Chloe closes her eyes, feeling more heat run down her cheeks.

“He needs help, Chlo. Not from you or any of us,” Haneul says gently, “Professional help from people who can actually help him.” 

“He won’t go,” Chloe tells him, shaking her head. “I want him to but…He just won’t try. We can’t do anything if he doesn’t try,” Chloe whimpers, head falling back down as she begins crying again. Haneul sighs, running his hands through her dark hair gently before pulling her to his chest once again. Chloe doesn’t wrap her arms around him for a second, believing it will only mean shes succumbing to helplessness.

She’s not helpless. She’ll never be helpless again.

But she can’t feel anything else besides hopelessness for her brother.

He doesn’t want to get better. He’ll just let himself suffer until he evetually dies.

Chloe no longer fears being helpless.

She fears being hopeless.

Soon after the news of Jacob’s hiatus, Chloe Joo, his little sister, announced she would also be taking a hiatus.

“I have to focus on my brother and taking care of him. My brother is hurting and I cannot work knowing he’s in pain and I’m doing nothing to help.” Chloe says in a heartbreaking post on the VENUS’ official SNS accounts. 

“He took care of me when I was hurt. Now, it’s my turn to take care of him. His recovery is my top priority.” She tells VENUS’ fans, constellations, towards the end of her letter. She also tells constellations to support the other girls and their projects while she’s gone.

Many fans were more than understanding of Chloe’s decision, trending “#OurAngelChloe” on Twitter for her which she later thanked them for on her Instagram story.

It’s unclear how long Chloe’s hiatus will last but she will be sitting out on any future Venus projects until further notice.

Announced on Venus’ update tab on their artist page via the Angelico app, ANGELCO, Adrian Reyes, a renowned producer, will be taking over as the producer and creative director of VENUS for the year of 2022.

“The girls will be taking on a new sound and look for 2022. Adrian is the most qualified to handle this project.” The update reads, “He has discussed in detail with the girls his plans and visions for the next year and everyone involved is really excited.”

Adrian Reyes is a 24 year old singer, songwriter, producer, and artist hailing from Palo Alto, California. Aside from making his own music, he’s made hits for major western artists such as Billie Eilish, Rico Nasty, Khalid, and more. He’s also notable for his work with KPOP groups such as NCT, GOT7, ITZY, and Momoland. 

He signed to Angelico in 2021 at first working internationally before moving to South Korea to have better creative control over his projects. He’s the mastermind behind many of ANGELICO’s groups concepts and greatest hits, leading many VENUS fans to be excited about his addition to the VENUS team.

––  the marketing for this era is what made it so fun ! no one knew what was coming and were on the edge of their seat the whole time. it was a bit stressful for the girls but they were happy with the outcome.

––  they were under the new creative direction of adrian reyes, who is known for his unconventional approach to music and interesting concepts. the girls, minus jiah, were pretty vocal about how they were nervous about this comeback due to adrian’s high expectations but were happy with how it turned out.

––   the concept was space themed and futuristic, something the girls had never dabbled in before despite being named after a planet. the music video took place in space, following the girls as they discover a space ship on earth and board it. the remainder of the music video was the girls in the space ship, dancing and having fun before they land on a planet, presumedly venus.

––   “it seemed like a waste to have them not on venus. they’re venus. i have this idea that they’re the lost princesses of venus, returning home. i’m still working it all out but that’s the general idea. it’s all up to interpretation.” adrian would go onto explain at a press confrence, announcing more music videos are to follow and expand on the idea, which the girls were seemingly excited for.

––   though having chloe missing showed vocally. jiah was carrying a lot of vocals, becoming their strongest vocalist with chloe missing. jiah stans were happy though because she got more lines.

––   yoonah and jiah got the most lines but the distribution was the fairest it had been in a LONG time.

––   chloe attended a few of the performances and even went on stage with the girls when they got a music show win which just warmed constellations hearts. they knew she was busy with her brother but were still happy to see her make time for the girls.

––   chloe was really supportive on her social medias, posting about the album and comeback every other day. it was very very sweet !

––   a lot of people really liked this comeback though! especially with the new storyline and concept. they were all pretty on edge at first but were really happy with the final product and excited to see more from the girls !

“he’s totally a weirdo,” aki adds, swerving in her rolly chair as yoonah grunts, tapping on her phone. “no normal person is a creative director.”

“normal people are boring,” jiah says, her eyes tearing away from the door to look at the girls sitting beside her. nakyung snorts through her nose, brows raising but eyes never leaving her phone.

“okay, pick me,” nakyung deadpans, causing yoonah to laugh, hitting the girl’s arm playfully. nakyung and yoonah laugh together at the small jab as jiah sighs, rolling her eyes and looking at her phone as well. aki isn’t as amused but she does smile softly.

“be nice,” minjun, their manager, scolds from the other side, causing the girls to fall silent, small giggles slipping past their lips as he types emails up on his laptop, jotting something down on his notepad beside him.

the door suddenly opens and two men enter. jinhwa, dressed in his sunday’s best as usual, clean and put together. he always looked so rich even during casual meetings like this.

the boy next to him looked straight out of a 90′s grunge band. bleached hair that needed his dark roots touched up, oversized zipped up jacket, baggy jeans, and the most worn pair of converse to ever step foot in the angelico building.

yoonah looks amused, aki looks skeptical, nakyung smiles sweetly, and jiah looks in love.

“girls, meet adrian reyes,” jinhwa says, causing adrian to raise his hand when his name is said, beaming at the girls. “the new creative mind behind venus.”

“what’s up!” adrian speaks, voice boyish matching the rest of him. he struts over to the girls, politely bowing to yoonah, taking her hand into his gently and kissing the top of it.

“miss baebi,” adrian enunciates, causing yoonah to smile in amusement, giggling softly. “our beautiful leader. love your work, absolutely beautiful,” he adds, causing yoonah put her hand over her heart with a nod, giving him a soft thank you before he moves over to aki, who moves her hands under her thighs. 

adrian simply bows to her, putting his hands at his side.

“honor to meet you miss aki, our creative genius and best female rapper in the game right now,” adrian praises, causing aki to break out into a smile, cracking her hard exterior, tossing her hair over her shoulder as the tips of her ears turn red. he puts his hand out to her which she takes, letting him put his other hand on top of her’s, shaking gently. “every excited to work with you. we’re gonna make some cool shit together.” 

aki nods at his words, giving his hand a squeeze, silently showing her approval of him as he moves on to nakyung, who already has her hand for him, bouncing excitedly in her seat.

adrian smiles sweetly at her excitment, taking nakyung’s hand into his and kissing the top of it like he had done for yoonah earlier.

“couldn’t forget our perfect visual, miss nakyung,” adrian beams, only making nakyung smile up at him brighter, holding his hand gently as she stares up at him. “i have a lot of ideas when it comes to her,” he says, looking at jinhwa as he points down at the girl, “very excited to work with you, yungie,” she concludes, giving her hand another kiss before finally moving onto jiah.

he puts his hands out like he’s presenting her as the main dish, beaming and proud smile on his face as he takes her hand into his, holding her hand up with his like he was awarding her th victor.

“and our powerhouse vocalist, miss kang jiah! i have never been so excited to work with someone before,” adrian announces, causing jiah to smile brightly, looking at the other girls, who watch them with equally excited smiles on their face. jiah looks at minjun with excitement but he looks throughly unamused as he continues to work silently. it dampers her joy slightly but when she looks at adrian, her mood is increased again.

“she’s our secret weapon, guys. truly, all the talent in this room is unmatched––we got the best rapper,” he points to aki, “the best dancer,” he points to yoonah, “the best visual,” he points to nakyung, “and the best vocalist,” he points to jiah, who’s hand he’s still holding. she’s beaming with pride and so are the other girls, watching adrian give his little spiel.

“i am honestly so honored to be working with all y’all. it’s going to be great. i have concept art, beat, and even a storyline planned and ready for all of you to look at. it’s gonna be great,” he concludes, same bright and excited smile on his face as he gives jiah’s hand a squeeze, slowly dropping it but not before giving her a sweet smile.

yoonah looks over at jiah, who stares up at adrian as he continues to explain his plans for the girls, using his hands to talk animatedly about his plans.

she can’t remember the last time she’s seen her look so happy.

ANGELICO Entertainment confirms the solo comeback of VENUS member, Baebi. Her first comeback will be under the creative direction of Adrian Reyes and herself while Aki will be writing and producing the mini album.

“I made the team myself,” Baebi shares on Instagram live while she was in the studio with Adrian and Aki, “We’re very excited for everyone to see what we’re coming up with. It’s something I’ve never done before but always wanted to. I’m very excited.”

“Think fairy princess,” Adrian adds, playing an ethereal sounding sample to tease the fans.

Constellations are very excited to see the new concept from Yoonah especially with how excited she seems to be. The comeback is scheduled to take place on MARCH 20TH.
