In Which Things are Cool as Fuck

today was the best fucking math lecture ever and I forgot how GOD DAMN AWESOME IT IS to be excited about learning shit

a lot of the systems we're dealing with right now come in the form of input/response differentials, so today our 18.03 prof was just like I'm gonna show you why you should think this is awesome. So we worked out and talked about how different kinds of lightbulbs work differently and why the voltage gaps change the way they do over the course of time and highlights involved all of us collectively gasping as we watched the square wave work magic on the sinusoidal plot of voltage as he turned on a light and I mean the math of it is beautiful but not solid me rambling material, so the other relevant thing I'll tell you is you can code information into fluorescent lightbulbs. This guest meche/ee faculty member who was chilling with us for the day literally plugged a CD player into a light, so we couldn't hear anything but it was transmitting frequencies through the light apparently because he took this hand-sized computer dealio that was connceted to this cheap speaker and showed us and then just pointed it at the light and it read the light and played back the music. Because everything is magic.

and now I'm happy, because I got to remember why I do this. i just wish I could describe this place as something other than "hard as fuck" without doing that whole "i'm gonna make a douchebragcontest out of how much work i have and how little sleep i get and ps i'm an elitist prick" deal, but I can't so just know that today was wonderful because sometimes it's easy to just make a sport out of hating things but guys
