Author Support - Tumblr Posts
I don't like promoting it since some people cled me a cash grabber in the past, but I hope that some of you might have something to spare to donate to my ko-fi. I've recently lost my job yet again, and due to health reasons finding a new one is momentarily not possible. There's been a lot of things going down that I keep private, simply because I don't like whining all the time that my life is so bad boohoo. Because it doesn't matter- I'm a writer, and you're here for content, not my personal life.
However, since my laptop has given up completely after 10 years of its loyal existence, all I can really give you are these short chapters, since my phone can't handle too much content at once without crashing.
If you have anything to spare I'd really appreciate your donation. And even if you don't- reblogging this and spreading it out would do me a huge favor as well. I want to continue writing, and I'd love to have your support on this.
Thank you in advance.
Review: The Stars May Rise And Fall By Estella Mirai
For the first time ever, I’m reviewing a book by one of my moots here on tumblr, and the moot in question is, as you might have guessed, Estella Mirai! I didn’t read the synopsis before I bought the book, I must confess that right away. I skimmed it, and I saw, gay Phantom Of The Opera retelling set in 2000s Japan, and I knew I had to read it. My little readers’ heart fell in love at hello…And boy, did it stay that way.
Little bit about the premise first, Teru is the drummer of failing visual kei band La Rose Verboten, who are, in his own words, good, but not great, or at least, not great enough to land any real success in Japan’s cut-throat music industry. Their only claim to fame is their lead singer, Bara, whose vocal range is mediocre at best, but his attractiveness has garnered the attention of a small group of girls who regularly show up at La Rose’s performances, not for the rest of the band, but for him. Naturally, this all changes when Teru gets a text from a mysterious stranger who claims that he can help him, and after said stranger, known only as Rei, orchestrates an incident that causes Bara to quit the band, Teru is forced to become the band’s new lead singer. Thus begins the story of La Rose’s rise to fame, and Teru’s relationship with Rei, a disgraced former star who was left permanently disabled after a car accident which killed his previous boyfriend.
I must confess, I don’t know much about the visual kei scene—I hadn’t been born yet when visual kei was in its prime, but I didn’t need to come in with prior knowledge—Everything about the visual kei scene was explained organically by an author who clearly knows their stuff about it. I truly enjoyed seeing La Rose’s progression from nobodies to stars, and the problems that the band face—From Minori and Teru’s parents disapproving of their sons’ career choices, to Minori facing the threat of having to give up on his dreams if the band doesn’t start making more money were very true to life and well done. I also enjoyed Rei’s character development, starting from wanting to vicariously live through Teru, and enjoy the success he feels should have been his, and ending with him sacrificing his relationship with Teru so that he won’t choose him over his dreams. By the end of the book, my neighbours must have thought that I was crazy, because I was full on screaming, kicking my legs like a teenage girl. This book left me on the best emotional high possible, and I would’ve loved to see a little more of Teru and Rei rekindling their relationship, and making up for all of the lost time. My ramblings aside, this was a great read, and I would highly recommend it. Head to Goodreads to be redirected to the right Amazon page for your country if you want to buy a copy!
Review: Peter Hart by Goldencomet69
I haven’t done one of these in a while, but I’m reviewing another book by one of my moots, and this time, I’m reviewing Peter Hart by @the-golden-comet! I’m a sucker for historical romances, and back in the day, I was a HUGE Pirates Of The Caribbean fan, so I couldn’t turn this one away. To give a brief synopsis, Peter Hart is the captain of The Golden Phoenix, a position he inherited from his late father, Captain Johnathan Hart at just sixteen years old. Ten years on, The Golden Phoenix crew are, like many other pirate crews, of their era, sailing the high seas in search of riches, but when they kidnap Prince Benjamin of Port Mayor at a ball, they find a lot more than they bargained for.
The highlight of the book for me was by far the focus on the bonds between the crewmen of The Golden Phoenix. The book had a big cast, but all of the characters had unique personalities which shined through, and no one felt unnecessary or out of place. I especially liked Benji, and I always found myself either laughing at him or pitying him in his attempts to survive at sea among his captors. He was such a cutie pie and I wanted nothing but the best for him ^o^
If you’re into pirates and dark romances, this one might be up your street! You can find it on AO3, and on Amazon Kindle!
A lot of the writers that I follow have been getting a lot of anonymous hate today... Probably from one very sad and shitty bug of a person. Whomever this person is, congratulations, you ruined my day! And I don't even write fanfiction but I enjoy reading it! These poor authors! They do not get paid to create their works and you come in to attack not only that but also their friendships? Really!? Tumblr is a place to enjoy the things you like. They do Tumblr for fun! Not to satisfy your absolutely Karen-like demands. If you don't like a fic quit reading it! You don't say anything about it and you move on. The author did not ask for criticism, not even constructive criticism. Which, by the way, your criticism is anything but constructive. I truly believe you are jealous of the wonderful talent of these individuals and their amazing friendships. Get off Tumblr and leave people alone! I don't know your life and why you feel the need to bring people down. Just know that karma will catch up to you.
