Black Fairy - Tumblr Posts

In my early life (before the internet became a real thing), I collected all things fairy. Ceramic figurines, books, posters. All of it. And there were none that looked like me. All fairies were white. There was no media with black fairies or black princesses or black mermaids or black heroines at all (at least none that I ever saw), and there was no widespread internet like there is now, to even seek those things out. When I started reading romance novels, there were no brown heroines on the covers or between the pages. And for many years of my life, I hated myself for not being "normal." I dreamed of having long, straight black hair that moved in the breeze and fair skin and light eyes. It took a long time to undo that.

For people who could always see themselves represented, I'm sure it feels like no big deal. For people like me, even as an adult, it means everything.

TLDR: This is the cutest fucking post and it made me smile.
