The Devil Made Me Do It……
So I was watching an episode of Bones,and Booth made Bones a cocktail featuring tequila,cassis,and lime juice. He called it a "B&B". Now Bones tends to screw up everything about Washington DC,so I wanted to see how close they got on this. A quick internet search found that the B&B actually stood for Benedictine and Brandy. However,there actually was a cocktail that used tequila,cassis,and lime,and it was created by none other than Trader Vic himself. So since I just posted some tequila Tiki drinks,I'd be remiss in my duties if I didn't post this one.
Originally called the Mexican El Diablo,the recipe first appeared in Vic's 1946 book,Trader Vic's Book of Food and Drink,but reappeared with the name shortened to 'El Diablo' in the 1968 Trader Vic's Pacific Island Cookbook. The recipe used in four of his books was as follows:
El Diablo
1oz tequila 1/2 a lime 1/2oz creme de cassis ginger ale
Squeeze lime into a 10 ounce glass over ice cubes;add spent shell. Add tequila and creme de cassis. Stir. Fill glass with ginger ale. Serve with straw.
Many folks believe the drink was created for a Mexican restaurant called Señor Pico’s,a lesser known establishment in Vic's pantheon that has pretty much faded into history. But Señor Pico’s didn't open until 1964,almost 20 years after its first appearance in a TV book. So this was just Vic making a tequila Tiki drink.
Ginger ale back in the day tended to be spicier than it is now,closer to ginger beer. So modern recipes use ginger beer,with the following amounts:
El Diablo(modern)
1.5oz reposado tequila 1/2oz lime juice 1/2oz creme de cassis 3oz ginger beer
Shake everything except ginger beer with ice and pour into glass. Add beer and stir.
There is also a version that uses ginger syrup and soda water as a substitute for ginger beer. Since I was out of ginger beer,but had a bottle of syrup that I had yet to crack open,I decided to make the syrup version:
Mix #129 El Diablo(w/syrup)
1.5oz reposado tequila 3/4oz ginger syrup 3/4oz lime juice 1/2oz creme de cassis 3oz soda water
Shake everything except soda with ice and pour into glass. Add soda and stir.
Very tequila forward with a bit of berry and ginger. Tequila fans will no doubt like this as you can really taste the tequila's flavor.
(Now,as a community service,I need to post a warning. I've previously used Pratt Standard ginger syrup without issue. I recently switched to The Ginger People Fiji ginger syrup,because the Pratt Standard doesn't keep as long and has to be refrigerated after opening. But I found out that ginger can have a,shall we say,'negative effect' on one's digestive system. As a result,I'm switching back to the other syrup,as it always agreed with me. No idea why the Ginger People stuff did what it did,but figured you'd appreciate the heads up.)

Sorry I just have to write a quick one shot about this. Bones is convinced by Booth to finally watch The Addams Family now that she's older to show her it's better than she thinks.
MORTICIA
The cold air nipped at Temperance Brennan's toes, making her tuck her legs under the warm blanket surrounding her and her daughter. It was October, and the chill in the air and light of the full moon had brought an air of that sort of spookiness Halloween brings.
"Booth, I don't know. I don't think I will like this."
"Bones, I promise you'll love it. Just give it a chance?" Booth was fiddling with the case of a DVD he and Christine had just bought, The Addams Family. He looked at her with those pleading, puppy dog eyes that told her that he wouldn't take no for an answer. Brennan pulled the blanket over her lap more, tracing the threads in thought.
It was just a movie. There's no way it could be as bad as she thinks. But then again, she couldn't put herself through something that might bring those memories to the front of her mind. Although, that was some time ago...
She looked up at Booth, who was waiting for a response with a goofy smile.
"Mommy?" Christine looked up at her. Her little lip stuck out in a pout. "Can we please watch this movie?"
She had told her daughter that she could stay up a little later tonight for movie night, and she was so excited that she accompanied her father to the store to buy the movie. Apparently, when Booth saw the movie in the bargain bin, he had told her all about how he loved it as a kid and how funny it was. It was more than enough to convince her.
Well. Brennan couldn't say no to both her husband and her daughter. Especially not when they both looked so excited. Sighing, she breathed out a defiant "Alright."
Cheers erupted from the two as Booth put the DVD in the slot and turned on the TV.
"You're gonna love this." He swayed his hips in a funny little dance that made them all giggle and made his way to the couch.
I hope so, she thought.

"Shes out like a lightbulb," Booth said, walking back into the living room with a smirk, "Meaning we-" He chuckled- "Get some time to ourselves."
He sat down on the couch next to Brennan, who was staring out the window deep in thought.
"Bones?"
She snapped back to reality, but still seemed kind of out of it. "Sorry, I was.... Thinking."
Booth looked concerned. "About what?"
Brennan raised her eyebrows and pursed her lips. "I should probably get these out of here." She motioned to the glasses on the end table with her head, then got up to take them to the sink.
Booth called from the couch. "Bones, what's wrong?"
"Uh.. Nothing!" The water filled the dirty glass in her hand. Heavy.. why did her chest feel so heavy? Why did it feel as if there was a rock lodged in her throat? She didn't understand. She liked the movie. It wasn't terrible at all. But then why did she feel like something about herself was wrong? Why did-
Suddenly, big, comforting arms wrapped themselves around her waist. Then a kiss on the cheek. Then a head on her shoulder.
"What's wrong?"
Small tears welled up and her throat felt tight. Placing the glass in the sink, she turned to face him. She looked into her husband's eyes, peering into the deep, calming brown that currently held concern for her. Then she understood.
"I... Thought I was over this. I- I thought it couldn't get to me anymore."
Booth furrowed his brow and frowned. "...I'm sorry Bones, I didn't mean to hurt you..."
Brennan shook her head and looked away. "You-" she sighed and shuffled her feet- "You didn't. I really enjoyed myself. I don't even know why I'm acting like this" she said, wiping a tear from her eye. Releasing herself from his arms, she walked over to the barstools and sat down. "I don't.." She huffed and placed her arms on the counter, clasping her hands. "I don't understand."
He followed her to the opposite side of the counter. "Understand what?"
She paused for a moment, then looked up at him.
"I don't understand why they called me that."
Silence surrounded them. After all this time, after growing up and getting the life she deserved, Morticia still rang through her ears like an old church bell. It still stung and pierced her heart.
"Am I really perceived that way? An outcast? Someone who cuts roses off their stem, who brings misery and darkness wherever she goes?" Brennan fidgeted with her nails. "Am I really Morticia...?"
Booth sighed and bit his tongue. He lowered himself to the countertop, folding his hands and resting his forearms. He waited a moment to speak, trying to find the best way to word what he wanted to say. "...Yes."
"...What?"
"Yes. You're Morticia."
Brennan stared back in shock. She didn't know what to say. Then Booth continued.
"You.. are... a beautiful, smart, talented and strong woman. You're the most amazing, world renowned and respected person in your field. You are surrounded by death and darkness, but you bring hope and light out from under it. You have looks that could kill. You have a wonderful life and two beautiful kids. You go through so much but your eyes sparkle through it all. Of course..." He smiled at her, placing his hand in hers. "You're Morticia."
A tear dropped to her chin. She smiled and chuckled, gripping his hand. "I am?"
Booth gently lifted his thumb to her face to wipe away her tear, letting it linger.
"You are."
Brennan crossed her brow and smiled. She leaned in and placed her forehead on his. She could feel the tears dropping but couldn't care less.
I am. Aren't I?
She chuckled and leaned in for a kiss. "If I'm Morticia, I guess that would make you Gomez."
He kissed her back. "Oh, yes it would. A devilishly handsome, devoted husband to such an intelligent, sexy wife? Of course I am."
Brennan laughed and kissed him again. "Intelligent and sexy, huh?" "Mhmm." "I am definitely both of those things. Wait, then who would Fester be?" "Aubrey for sure." She laughed. "Well now thats just mean!" "Well it makes sense.......
Concept: Booth, Brennan, Christine, and Hank dressing up as The Addams Family for Halloween. Fuck you, people who made fun of Brennan in high school by calling her Morticia. She IS a sexy, happily married lady who likes working with the dead!

in 3x05 “The mummy in the maze” they showed the tox screens for the victims and one of them showed that they had lactogenic hormones. Googled it to find out it’s a hormone released for lactation during pregnancy.
No mentions of a pregnancy but thought it was a weird little thing I’d share.
They really should have developed Booth and Brennan’s first pregnancy a lot better.
We could’ve had booth saying “I wouldn’t mess around with her she’s 4 months pregnant” while interrogating a suspect. The camera turning to momma bones with a bump, hands on hips and looking like she’s gonna slide across the table and give em anatomy lessons with their own organs. (And many more funny scenes of them being smart momma bones and protective daddy booth)
I feel like Brennan would’ve made a funny pregnant detective, anthropologist, author, singer, bridge builder etc etc

on the anniversary of vincents death they get together and play various trivia games (brennan wins 99% of the time, the other time it was more pop culture focused and hodgins hasnt shut up about it since)

Howard Epps:
Okay I have fixed feelings about him. He was the first serial killer, so obviously that makes him cooler, but he was just so. cliche. also mega Red Dragon vibes from him, especially his backstory. Also he hurt Zack so 0/10, wasn’t hit enough to excuse his actions
Gormogon:
Low-key my second favourite serial killer in the show, I’m a whore for religious serial killers in media. ofc, he hurt Zack, making him an instant -100/10, but I genuinely think he was a really good character on the show. I feel like he could’ve worked better as the last ever serial killer ifykim?? Like, Gormogons whole arc felt more like an ending than a beginning. Also gotta love the cannibals on this show. it’s a great gimmick
The Gravedigger:
Fun fact: this was actually the first ever serial killer arc I ever saw on Bones!! I watched them out of order and don’t actually have the full story still, but honestly I liked the arc. The fact she hurt Lance and killed a kid makes her an instant -1000/10, but she really knew how to properly have a gimmick. I liked her arc as a serial killer better than any on the show, it was one of the only times the plot felt coherent lol.

Not much to say, he was hella short lived. Light Yagami kinnie. Moving on!
The Ghost Killer:
Okay, I’m biased here, because I read a fanfic about her once and now I hate her. BUT, even without the ao3 fics traumatising me, I hated her character with a burning passion. It led into Sweets death which could be blamed on Pelant but he’s my meow meow so let’s not which of course is unforgivable so she’s my least favourite personality wise, and her gimmick of finger nails was just,,, to bland. Original, but bland. We need CANNIBALISM. we need ANARCHY. not fingernails!!
Last but DEFINITELY not least,
Christopher Pelant:
okay really I swear it won’t just be me simping. I have opinions on his character!!!! That aren’t horny!! I actually didn’t enjoy his arc as much as you’d assume I did, it felt rushed and was kinda boring. I talk more about it here, but I genuinely think his episodes were shit. He was a good character, whether you like him like I do or not, and deserved to be fleshed out more than he was (which basically wasn’t at all). I will forever say he should’ve been the last serial killer, and his arc should’ve gone on for much much longer. At least a whole nother season. I hated the way they made him be in love with Brennan (because if they couldn’t have made him gay like god INTENDED THEY SHOULDNT HAVE MADE HIM FALL IN LOVE AT ALL) and it literally lasted like two episodes before he died. nothing about his arcs ever made sense. he got like two minutes of screen time but was literally the most important villain in the ENTIRE SERIES. I’m forever salty about his ending, and will not shut up about it until Hart Hanson himself apologizes to my FACE.

the Christmas quarantine episode. it’s so. ApAugh!! so much Zack content!!! It’s so sweet I cry when watching it
the 200th episode is so cool, I love it sm and we get Pelant content!!
the secret in the siege, aka the one after Pelant gets shot!!!! he was fine as hell in this episode no matter if the brenna plot line was included (we don’t talk about her)
last but not least, season seven episode six Crack in The Code. self explanatory. I gen think this is the only good Pelant episode until the one mentioned above istg.
