A dumbasses Book review #1 Where I end and You begin by Preston Norton

This book is a bitch! I finished reading it and I can’t stop thinking about it’s shit ending. (Spoilers ahead for like the entire book) The main character Erza and a girl named Winona and they swap bodies through the entire book. Now Erza is obsessed with this one girl name Imogen and Winona wants to F*********ck Ezra’s Best friend Holden. Now instead of both of the main guy and girl learning to get over there crushes they had for ages (especially in the mc’s case like to Highschool from 4th grade even I’m not that pathetic with crushes) Now halfway through the book they try to reveal to their crushes that they have been switching and that’s why they were uncomfortable when they tried to make a move. You also learn Imogen has the hots for Winona and I thought at this point they are all going to have a falling out and Winona and Erza realize how much they mean to each other and start dating. And I was partially correct but Winona and Erza Don’t realize how Import they are to each other even though that’s what they author has been building up since the start of the book. Not only that but the ending has Imogen the lesbian who has shown no interest in men and even like MC Erza more in Winona’s body once she finds out the swapping is real. And Holden I can accept because although he originally hated Winona he actually developed. The reason I’ve been haunted by this book is not by the straight relationship Imogen is forced in, Not that the adorable Erza and Winona Don’t get together (although I would’ve liked it better because of the next reason). It’s because of the development of the characters. While all characters develop maturity in their sexual identities their romantic maturity is completely just fucked. Imogen is forced to dating a boy even though when they are in prom she is literally eyeing up another girl, Holden is cast aside as a joke character partway through because although that is kinda his nature his relationship with Winona isn’t getting anymore explanation. And the worst offender is the MC himself never getting over his obsession with Imogen and evolving to accept her lack of feelings towards him. In the end Imogen’s new found emotions and sexuality as a bi girl feel forced (at least when I read it) and don’t feel as natural as Winona and Ezra’s relationship. Even Holden notices this in the end (one of his only moments in the last few chapters not played for laughs) where he tells Erza that he and Winona have a special relationship he shouldn’t get between and she should have a dance with him. Winona is the only character given a lot of development. She developed Sexually, romantically and fixed her relationship with her father. But should I remind you all thanks to Erza. And those facts along with Erza’s notions of being “more than just friends” with her it leads to a lot of romantic subtext. The author even uses common fan fiction tactics in the story for Winona and Erza’s relationship. From people thinking they had sex to them pretending they did have sex and even them trying to explain what is actually going on and that said sex never happened all feels like a few naughtier fics I’ve read in the past. These along with the good writing, good characters, the development that could have been but never was and ship bait leads this book to haunt me instead being a good example of romance in a young adults novel. (Sorry for this rant that probably won’t be seen by anyone but I just had a lot of scattered thoughts about this book I wanted to get out)
