~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's now been two days since you met Hobi and his friends, and today you were going to help them look for supplies. You couldn't quite comprehend why youâd volunteered to go out. You didn't have nearly as much experience as they did when it came to dealing with the zombies. Yeah, maybe it was easier to face them when you were part of a group, but you had been alone up until now.
You had the basic knowledge of how to deal with them, but no amount of preparation or intelligence could take away the overwhelming reality of the current state of the world. The truth is, nothing is guaranteed. There are no promises that could be made in regard to someoneâs safety, theyâd all be empty.
The harsh reality is that at any given moment, one of us could turn into a monster. Whether it happens because youâve been bitten and are now infected, or you simply give in to the darkness inside of you. Either way, becoming something that you donât want to become seems somewhat inevitable at this point.
You already felt it from the moment this mess began. You saw it when you fired a bullet directly into a zombieâs head to save Hobi. Sure, zombies were just a shell of the person that they once were, but they were still a person at some point. A human being with thoughts, feelings, goals, and aspirations. Someone who was loved by others and loved those people right back. You couldnât help but wonder if the only difference between zombies and those who were still alive was as simple as a heartbeat.
There was no time to reconsider the solidity of your moral compass. The boys took you in and you needed to help them. Fresh water and a warm meal was somewhat unheard of these days, but that didnât stop them from doing what they could for you.
You dressed yourself in a pair of jeans, along with a long sleeved shirt and boots before tying your hair up into a ponytail and sliding on a black baseball cap. You gave yourself one final look over before grabbing your gun and heading downstairs. Everyone else was already down there, standing in the dining room. Everyoneâs bags were laid out on the dining table along with various weapons. You were greeted by Jimin who was leaning against the countertop.
âAh, Y/N!â He exclaimed, drawing everyoneâs attention towards you, as he motioned for you to stand by him.
âGood morning, everyone.â You greeted as you joined Jimin.
Much to your surprise, Hobi didnât rush over to greet you as he did the previous morning. Instead, he remained silent as he stood in the corner by Yoongi who also kept quiet as his sight remained glued to the floor.
Great, theyâre both upset with me. You thought to yourself. You understood Hobiâs hesitation when it came to you deciding to join them on a supply run. I mean, you were going in a smaller group opposite of his, and according to his statement to Taehyung the other day, he promised himself that heâd protect you. Yoongi, however, was a mystery. One that you were sure youâd figure out one day, but today was not that day.
âAre you ready?â Namjoon asked as he walked over to you, handing you your bag.
âIâm ready.â You said between a deep breath.
âEach group has a radio, including myself. Theyâre long range so team one and team two will be able to alert each other in case they need help. I wonât be able to hear you all once you pass the halfway point.â He said, referring to the location in between each teamâs destination and the house. âKeep your gun in your back pocket but avoid using it if you don't have to. You donât want to alert more zombies than you need to. I placed a miniature hatchet in your bag, use that if you can.â He finished as you nodded in response.
âWeâll be taking mine and Yoongiâs cars this time, so letâs try to get as much as we can.â Jin added.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You all made your way outside and began loading up the separate vehicles. You were in the middle of sorting through your bag, pulling out the hatchet to have it prepared when you felt a hand on your shoulder. You turned around and were met with Hobiâs kind eyes.
âHi.â He said softly with a weak smile.
âHey. Listen, I know that you want me stay back but-â you began but were interrupted as Hobi gently held up your arm, taking off the bracelet on his wrist and placing it on yours. âWhatâs this?â You asked as you began examining it. It was purple and twine-like with beads that spelled out âhopeâ in the middle.
âThis is my favorite bracelet. I never take it off.â He stated simply, as he kept a gentle hold on your wrist.
âSo, why are you giving it to me?â You asked, a bit bewildered.
âBecause itâs my favorite, which means that you have no choice but to be safe and make it back home so you can return it to me.â He said sweetly, causing you to reach up to wrap your arms around his neck.
âI promise to give it back to you.â You whispered as you pulled away to look at him. He didnât try to stop you from going. Didnât try to argue with you about it. As much as he didnât like it, he respected your decision and accepted it as your own to make.
âWe should get going. Be safe out there, Y/N.â
âYou be safe too, Hobi.â You told him before climbing into the backseat. Yoongi entered the driver's side with Jimin in the passenger. You all gave Namjoon a final wave before pulling off, following behind Jinâs car.
The car ride was silent. Even Jimin, who was typically a ball of energy, kept quiet. It seemed like everyone was nervous about the trip and you couldnât help but wonder if it was the same for the other group.
âNamjoon Hyung, weâve made it to the halfway point.â Jimin spoke into the radio, letting Namjoon know that we would no longer be in contact with him.
Your anxiety arose slightly as the car in front of you made a left while your car made a right. This was it. No going back now. Yoongi drove for a few more minutes before the car came to a stop.
âFuck.â He said, causing you to look out of the front window. The rest of the path was blocked off by a row of cars.
âWhat should we do?â Jimin asked as he looked at Yoongi.
âThereâs no way for us to drive through. Weâre going to have to walk. We arenât too far away from the shop.â He groaned as he began pulling the car to the side of the road before parking. âRadio the other team, let them know that weâre continuing on foot.â
Jimin did as he was told, letting Jin know that our path was blocked and that the only way weâd get through is by walking.
âAlright, we need to move carefully. I donât know if those cars were placed there in an attempt to keep zombies out or people. Either way, we stay alert and donât draw any attention to ourselves.â Yoongi said as he glanced at both you and Jimin.
You hadnât considered that the barrier mightâve been created to prevent people from getting through. The fact that some people were still alive was new to you.
âWhat do you mean, could there be another group here?â You asked him.
âI donât know. Hopefully we donât find out.â He stated simply. You turned your attention to Jimin who seemed as anxious as you were.
âWeâll be okay.â Jimin said and you werenât sure if he was trying to reassure you or himself. Either way, it wasnât very convincing.
You all made your way out of the car, weapons in hand as you began making your journey. Yoongi led the way with Jimin behind and you following. Slowing down as you all came across a sign hanging from a traffic light reading âTURN BACKâ.
âLetâs keep moving.â Yoongi whispered.
As you reached your destination, you all found yourselves staring at the entrance. The doors and windows were all locked and none of you wanted to risk breaking them as itâd alert anything around you.
âLetâs check the rear entrance.â You said, as you began circling the building with the others trailing behind you. The back door was locked as well but you noticed a window to the right side of it that was ajar. It wasnât excessively high up, but thereâs no way that you all could climb through on your own.
âOne of us could climb in through here and open the door for the others.â You stated as you turned to face the two behind you.
âJimin-ah, lift me up. Iâll let you both in.â Yoongi said as he began taking his backpack off.
âNo, I can do it.â You said, handing your bag to Yoongi.
âY/N, are you sure thatâs a good idea?â Jimin asked you with a hint of hesitation in his tone.
âSheâs not going. We have no clue whatâs waiting for us on the other side.â Yoongi stated sternly.
âI wasnât asking for permission. What makes you think that you can tell me what I can and canât do?â You argued.
âIâm the one leading this goddamn team.â He snapped back.
âWell, Iâm the only one with a gun, Yoongi. And correct me if Iâm wrong, but Iâm pretty sure that Iâm the only one who knows how to use one.â You refuted as you looked at the both of them.
Yoongi sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. You were right and he knew it. You were the only one within your group who could fire a guaranteed shot. âHoseokâs going to fucking kill me.â He groaned.
âY/N, get on my shoulders and see if anything is in there.â Jimin told you, doing his best to cut through the tension. You nodded as you carefully climbed onto his shoulders as Yoongi kept a hand on your back to keep you from falling.
You attempted to open the window more, stopping abruptly and cringing a bit as you heard it begin to squeak. The wind started to pick up, allowing the scent of the room to air out. You began smelling the familiar stench of a rotting corpse, causing you to gag a bit as you covered your nose with your sleeve. It was then that you noticed the amount of dried blood all over the floor and walls.
There were some hidden corners in the room, and you were unsure if a zombie or another person could be occupying them. You were taken from your thoughts as you heard a light growl. You turned your attention to the sound, breath catching in your lungs as you saw it. Out of the shadows, a zombie appeared. It was a male and he looked young, probably in his early twenties.
As he got closer, you saw something that you were sure would never leave your mind. His eyes were gone, almost as if theyâd been perfectly gouged from his head. It was clear that he hadnât done it to himself, as you noticed that his wrists had been zip tied together and a sign hung from his neck reading âTRAITORâ.
As he dragged his feet across the floor, it became evident that he couldnât see you. You looked down at Yoongi who was watching you with a concerned expression, as he saw how uneasy you looked. You said nothing, however. Instead, you raised a finger to your lips, signaling him to remain silent. Namjoonâs words lingered in your mind, reminding you not to use your gun unless you absolutely had to.
You carefully began crawling through the window, attempting to remain as quiet as possible. There was a desk directly below the window with papers and cans scattered around it. Your movements remained slow as you entered the other side, doing your best not to knock anything over in the process. Luckily, you succeeded but now you were wondering how youâd get down without knocking anything over.
You crouched down and placed your hands on the table for support. You managed to guide your feet to the floor and readied yourself, gripping the hatchet in your hand tightly. You took small steps to the creature who was swaying side to side. You felt a hint of guilt as your eyes remained fixed on his hollow, bloody sockets.
âIâm sorry.â You whispered, causing the creature to open his mouth and let out a deep groan. You cut him off as your hatchet made connection with his skull, landing right in the middle. He remained still for a moment, mouth still hanging open before he began to fall. You carefully guided his lifeless body to the floor, refusing to let him go until he was completely flat. You didnât know if anything else was roaming around here, and the last thing you needed was a loud thud giving away your position.
You released a shaky breath that you hadnât realized youâd been holding as you looked at him. He died twice. You thought to yourself. You didnât know who he was or what he did, but you knew that he didnât deserve to die that way. It was unclear if he was bitten before heâd been tortured or after. Either way, he didnât pass away peacefully. He was murdered brutally.
You shook your head as you tried to push away those thoughts, guiding your attention back to the task at hand. You turned to the door, carefully pushing it open to allow the two men to enter. Jiminâs eyes met yours and he quickly came to check on you. It wasnât until that moment that you realized youâd been crying.
âHoly fuck.â Yoongi whispered causing Jimin to turn his attention to whatever Yoongi was looking at.
âHow could someone do that?â Jimin said, now understanding why you were so upset.
âIt doesnât matter. He can rest now. C'mon, letâs get what we need and get out of here.â You said in an emotionless tone as you began wiping your tears.
âSheâs right, Jimin. Letâs go.â Yoongiâs tone was a bit different than it had been before. His words were soft, but there was a hint of sadness coating them. Maybe he was going through the same thought process as you were. You turned to face him. The look he gave you was one of empathy, and he offered you a reassuring nod that you reciprocated.
Yoongi began leading the way once again, cautiously stepping out of the room as Jimin followed. You stopped in the doorway, turning to face the corpse once again. âI hope youâre at peace.â You whispered before following the other two.
You all searched around for supplies, finding various canned goods and some drinks as well. You grabbed some hygienic products that you found scattered along the floor before continuing your search. You paused as you came across some books. You looked around to make sure that the others werenât watching you before directing your attention back to them.
You werenât sure what it was, but something within you felt the need to make amends with Yoongi. Sure, he was being a bit of an asshole earlier, but we were all just trying to do our best to survive. You thought for a moment before grabbing a couple of them to give to Yoongi once you all made it back home, placing them in the front pocket of your bag. You began looking for more supplies again, finding more cans of food hidden underneath one of the shelves.
You stretched your arm out as you tried to reach all of them, your hands brushing against something small and flat. You laughed lightly as you inspected the item. It was a chocolate bar, still wrapped perfectly. You began searching for a date to make sure it was still good, letting out a satisfied hum when you saw that it wasnât expired yet. You placed it in your bag next to Yoongiâs books. You figured you could give it to Hobi when you returned his bracelet to him.
Once you all were certain that youâd properly cleaned out the shop, you began making your way back to the car.
âWe made it!â Jimin said buoyantly as you all climbed into your seats.
You were relieved to say the least, but you still couldnât shake that image from your mind. Youâve seen zombies before and you knew that each of them had a story, but this was the first time that youâd witnessed something so intense.
âIâm going to check on the others.â Yoongi said as he reached for the radio.
âSeokjin Hyung?â Yoongi spoke into the device.
âYeah, are you all alright?â Jin responded rather quickly.
âWeâre okay. Weâre heading back now. Are you guys almost done?â Yoongi asked.
âWeâve just left. See you soon.â Jin said.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The drive back wasnât nearly as silent as before, but the energy was still lackluster.
âI think we should tell the others about what we saw. We donât know if the people who did that are still out there.â Yoongi stated. You didnât want to relive that experience, but you understood where he was coming from. So, you agreed, as did Jimin. If someone could do something like that to someone they knew, then what would they do to complete strangers?
As you approached the house, you saw Namjoon and the others unloading the first car. They all turned their direction to your group, waving and offering big smiles. You barely had time to step out of the car before Hobi ran up to you, embracing you in a tight hug which you reciprocated.
âYou made it!â He said brightly.
âI promised you I would.â You laughed.
âI missed you.â He said as he pulled away, keeping his hands on your shoulders.
âI missed you too, Hobi. Actually, I got you something.â You told him. You turned to grab your bag and opened the front pocket to redeem the chocolate bar before handing it to him. âI only found one, so donât let the others see.â You whispered.
âYou should keep it for yourself then!â He said with wide eyes as he tried to give it back to you, causing you to cross your arms.
âNope, I got it for you. Someone so sweet should have something sweet.â You said, causing him to smile bigger than he already was. You werenât sure how it was even possible, but you enjoyed the view, nonetheless.
âThank you, Y/N! Letâs split it.â He insisted.
âWhatever you want, Hobi.â You agreed, motioning for him to hide it as the others began walking up to you, greeting you with warm smiles.
They were happy to see you, and you were just as happy to see them. You didnât know them well at all, but you still found yourself comforted by their presence.
After everyone unloaded their bags onto the dining table, the boys began looking through everything. Seokjinâs team had a great haul, also finding various canned goods and drinks along with a few snacks like chips and protein bars that were still good. You managed to sneak upstairs to hide the books you grabbed for Yoongi. You placed them in the bedside table along with your gun before heading back downstairs.
All of the items had been put away into the cabinets and everyone was sitting at the table, chatting away as Namjoon finished plating the food heâd made for us. Just like the previous day, you sat in between Hobi and Jimin. Namjoon passed out bowls of soup to everyone. No oneâs bowls were completely full as we needed to make sure things lasted as long as possible.
Everyone began talking amongst each other and this time you allowed yourself to join them. You felt as if you were getting to know them better as they told you about their livesâ when everything was normal, and you told them about yours. Jungkook told you about all of his tattoos, and you two joked about getting matching ones when all of this ended. If all of this ended.
You realized that youâd never given Hobi back his bracelet, and it seemed like he forgot to ask for it back.
âHere, I forgot to give this back to you.â You said softly, holding the piece of jewelry in your hand for him to take.
âYou keep it.â He told you.
âBut itâs your favorite.â
âIt is, but I want you to hold onto it for a bit longer. Think of it as your lucky charm.â
You thought for a moment as you put the bracelet back on. You wanted to give him something in return. Something that would inspire him to stay safe at all costs, because he knew that heâd need to return it to you at some point. It felt like a lightbulb turned on when you realized that your hair was still in a ponytail, and you were still wearing your hat.
âChoose.â You told him, holding both your hat and your scrunchie in each hand. He began tapping his finger against his chin in an animated manner.
âHow about this? Itâs basically the same thing.â He said as he pointed to your scrunchie, causing you to laugh a bit as you slid the item onto his wrist.
âThere, now we both have lucky charms.â
Everyone finished their meals, but we all remained at the table. Far too engrossed in our conversations to be bothered with getting up from our seats.
âEveryone-â Yoongi spoke loudly, drawing everyoneâs attention. âJimin, Y/N, and I witnessed something during our trip that we think you all should know about.â He finished. You and Jimin shared an uncomfortable look with each other. Neither of you wanted to talk about it, but you knew that it needed to be done.
âWhat happened?â Namjoon asked inquisitively.
You guys told them everything. About the cars, the sign in the road, the zombie. Every weird thing that you witnessed. You made sure to avoid mentioning the fact that you entered the building on your own, knowing that Hobi would be pissed at Yoongi and Jimin for allowing it. They didnât express it, but they noticed what you were doing, and they were grateful for it.
âThatâs awful.â Tae said as he sighed deeply at the end of the story.
âYou guys didnât see anyone around?â Jin asked.
âNo, we didnât. We werenât sure if theyâd left or if they were dead now too.â You told him.
âIâm just glad that you all made it back safely.â Jungkook stated.
âThis isnât good. Thereâs no telling how long that guy had been there.â Namjoon said, somewhat stating the obvious. Although, we were all thinking the same thing.
âWhat should we do? I mean, if theyâre still alive and theyâre still around, whatâs to say we wonât run into them?â Jin asked.
âMaybe we should consider moving?â Hobi suggested.
It was an uncomfortable thing to think about, but this was the reality you all were faced with. The people who killed that man could still be alive and for all you knew, they could still be in the area. No one could say how many there were of them. We couldnât just take a risk and assume that weâd be fine.
âItâs something to think about. Weâve talked about going somewhere else when we couldnât find any more supplies, but we never planned for something like this.â Namjoon said.
You all remained silent for a moment as everyone began weighing out the options, not that there was a lot to begin with.
âY/N, I need something from you.â Namjoon said, causing you to sit up and give him your full attention.
âWhat is it?â You asked.
âI need you to teach us all how to shoot.â He stated, causing everyone to turn to you.
âI can do that. We need to find somewhere that we can practice without making too much noise.â You told them.
âI agree. I know we were trying to avoid making two trips this week, but weâre going to need more guns. Ideally, everyone would be armed.â Namjoon said.
âThereâs a shooting range not too far from here. I think that they sold rifles as well for hunting.â Yoongi stated.
âWe can start searching there. Maybe we can find some suppressors as well, itâd make training a lot easier." You responded.
âItâs settled. Iâll go with you and everyone else will stay here.â Namjoon stated.
âShouldnât half of us go? I can come too. Itâs dangerous for both of you to go alone.â Hobi asked.
âIt is dangerous, which is exactly why you all need to stay here. A group is too noticeable. Iâm not sending Y/N out by herself, and I donât know enough about guns. Besides, I stayed back today.â Namjoon told him.
âWeâll be ok. Maybe you guys could try securing the house a bit more? It would give us some extra protection until we decide where weâre going.â You stated to everyone, but you were mainly speaking to Hobi in an attempt to calm his nerves.
âWe still have a few hours of daylight left. We can go now.â You told Namjoon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Everyone who was hanging back remained at the table, discussing ways that they could secure the house. You ran upstairs to grab your things and headed back down.
âHere.â Yoongi said as he placed his car keys in your hand. âNamjoon doesnât have a lot of experience driving. You can take my car. It has more gas in it than Jinâs.â He continued.
âThank you.â You said as you placed the keys in your pocket.
âItâs no problem. Just donât wreck it.â He lightheartedly joked.
âOh, Iâm going to drive it into the nearest tree.â You said sarcastically, causing him to roll his eyes but you could see the smirk that he was trying to hide.
âAre you ready?â Namjoon asked as he grabbed his bag.
âYep, letâs go.â You told him before quickly making your way over to Hobi. âWeâll be back before you know it.â You whispered to him, trying not to interrupt the others who were still talking.
âI know you will. We still have a chocolate bar to split.â He said, causing you to let out a small laugh.
Yoongi wasnât lying when he said that the range wasnât far. It took less than 10 minutes to get there, which was relieving. You felt as if you and Namjoon could grab what you needed without much trouble. As you parked the car across the street from the store, you couldnât help the confusion building inside of you. The windows were still intact, seeming as if no one had attempted to get in.
âDonât you think itâs weird that no oneâs broken in?â You asked as you turned to face Namjoon.
âA little bit. I think that they may have protective glass. Maybe thatâs why?â He suggested.
âI guess that could be it. How in the hell are we supposed to get in then?â
âWeâll just have to scope out the area. I can try to pick the lock if I need to.â He said, causing you to nod.
As you both made your way to the store entrance, you began looking through the windows in search of any zombies or people, just as Jimin had instructed you to do earlier in the day. Everything seemed perfectly intact. No guns were missing from the walls behind the counter. There was no indication that someone had gone in and trashed the place, it all looked untouched.
âIâm going to check around the back. Maybe thereâs an entry point there.â You told Namjoon as he began fumbling with the lock, letting out a low hum in response.
As you began circling the building you felt as if you were repeating your steps, just at a different store. You knew that history tended to repeat itself, but youâd hoped that it wouldnât happen to you within the same day.
Once you reached the back of the building, you paused for moment and peeked around the corner as you noticed a truck parked in the back. Your intuition seemed to be screaming at you. Sure, there were tons of abandoned cars everywhere, but something in you made you feel as if that one still belonged to someone.
You quickly made your way to the front of the range to let Namjoon know what you saw, but you froze as you reached your destination. The door hung wide open with no sign of the man you came here with. He couldâve easily gotten in on his own, but you knew that he wouldnât have just left you. You took a deep breath before readying your gun as you snuck into the building.
You carefully peeked around each corner as you began heading down the hallway. You slowed down a bit as you heard sounds of a struggle and a voice that belonged to your friend.
âGet the fuck off of me!â He yelled.
âNo, not until you tell me why youâre here. Are you alone?â You heard another manâs voice tell him.
âFor fucks sake I was looking for a gun and Iâm by myself.â Namjoon said. He wasnât going to let this random man know that you were with him.
You peeked around the corner with caution, the manâs back was facing you as he had Namjoon pinned the floor with a knife to his neck. You slowly creeped up behind him, putting the gun to his head and clicking it.
âDrop your weapon and get off of him.â You said sternly, hoping that he couldnât sense the shaking of your hands.
The man did as he was told, dropping the knife beside him and standing up with his hands raised. He attempted to turn around to face you, but you pressed the gun harder against him, causing him to stop with a flinch.
âDonât fucking move unless I say so!â You yelled as you began pushing him, directing him to stand against the wall. You glanced at Namjoon who was trying to catch his breath as he stood up.
âGo find something to tie him up with.â You told him, cocking your head to the side as to guide him.
âL-look, Iâm sorry. I wasnât going to hurt him. I just wanted to know who he was.â The man stuttered.
âDonât lie to me.â You told him.
âWe can work this out! You guys can take whatever you need, and weâll go on about our days.â He pleaded.
âSomething tells me that it wonât be that simple.â You told him.
âI found some rope.â Namjoon said as he sprinted back into the room.
âPut your hands behind your back.â You instructed the man, who did as he was told.
âTie him up.â You directed Namjoon as you kept the gun pressed to the manâs head.
Namjoon quickly did as you instructed him to do, unsure of what the end plan was. To be honest, you didnât know either. You were just trying to find a way to keep the two of you safe without having to injure the man.
âHere.â You whispered as you carefully guided Namjoon's right hand to take the place of yours holding the gun. âKeep an eye on him. If he moves, pull the trigger.â You finished, making sure to state the last sentence loud enough for the man to hear.
Once you were sure that Namjoon was in a good position, you quickly grabbed both of your bags and made your way to the front of the store to fill them up. You grabbed everything that you could including bullets, handguns, suppressors, and the two hunting rifles that were hanging on the wall.
You began loading one of the rifles that was hanging by its strap on your shoulder and headed back to Namjoon. The man was babbling on about any and everything in an attempt to persuade the two of you to release him.
âYou wonât get away with this!â He cried. âMy friends will come looking for me.â
âListen to me-â you said, cutting him off. âWe are going to leave and you arenât going to try and stop us. Iâm not going to kill you, but I promise you that if you or any of your friends try to find us, I will not hesitate. I will kill each and every one of you. Do you understand me?â You growled.
âY-yes. I understand.â He whined.
âGood. Get down on your knees, do not turn around.â You instructed, as you handed Namjoon back his bag.
Once the man was on the floor, you began backing out of the room with Namjoon following you. You quickly closed the door and grabbed a chair, placing it underneath the doorknob before hastily returning to the car and speeding off.
âShit!â Namjoon breathed.
You didnât respond. Too focused on the road and checking your mirrors to make sure that you werenât being followed.
âYou saved my life, Y/N. Thank you.â Namjoon expressed gratefully.
âYou donât need to thank me. You wouldâve done the same.â You breathed, slowly relaxing a bit when you were a good distance away from the building.
âI know, but still. I wouldnât have made it out of there if it werenât for you.â
âDo you think he was being honest about his friends?â You questioned as his words replayed in your mind.
Namjoon signed deeply before responding. Shaking his head lightly. âI donât know.â He admitted as he turned to face you.
You simply nodded as you bit your lip and attempted to fight the tears that were burning your eyes. You knew that you did what you needed to do. The man wouldâve killed the both of you had you not threatened him, but there was still a sense of guilt as you felt your humanity fading.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The two of you walked through the front door, finally relaxing a bit. The others were quick to try and greet you, but you remained silent as you looked at all of the faces around you. Smiles slowly fading as they saw the distressed look on both yours and Namjoonâs faces.
âWhatâs wrong?â Jungkook asked, eyes bouncing between you and the man stood beside you.
âWe ran into another survivor.â Namjoon stated.
You werenât even sure how it happened, but everyone ended up in the living room. Eyes glued to Namjoon as he told them what happened. You, however, werenât listening. Instead, you sat on the floor with your legs crossed as you began looking through the bags and loaded each of the guns. It wasnât until a voice called your name that you looked up. Everyone was staring at you in disbelief.
âY/N?â Taehyung called out softly. âAre you alright?â He asked, his tone laced with concern.
âIâm fine.â A lie. âI promise.â Another lie. Without another word, you returned your attention to the weapons laid in front of you.
âWe donât have much time. I donât know if that guy was being honest or not, but I donât want to wait around to find out. Y/N will teach us how to use the guns and weâll prepare to move.â Namjoon announced.
Thatâs two lives youâve saved. Two lives within the span of two days. You werenât sure what was happening to you, but it seemed as if by the snap of a finger, something changed. You no longer felt guilty. You no longer felt afraid.
Looking at the men around you, the ones you were so grateful for, you felt nothing except determination. Not a single person or thing would come between you and your friends. Each and every single one of you would make it through, together.
summary/preview: Just a year since your brotherâs brutal murder, bad luck seems to strike again in your once-peaceful hometown. It seems as if death wants to follow you as it finds its next victim in one of your school friends. The more the murders start to connect, you begin to wonder if it really could be just a copycat killer or if the wrong man was imprisoned.
quick note: this is very unedited so pls excuse any mistakes!! tyđ¤
It had been almost a year since your brotherâs death and you still couldnât believe it was real. His bedroom door had been practically sealed shut, neither you nor your father daring to venture inside. The sight of his empty room getting dusty would have just made it that much more real - something the both of you didnât need as the constant news coverage had done enough of that job already.
It wasnât necessarily that you were so distraught over Seowonâs death that you couldnât come to terms with it. He was your older brother, your own blood, but that didnât mean the two of you had been the closest siblings. You would describe your relationship over the years as lukewarm at best. You loved him because he was your brother but you never truly felt like you knew him. It was also hard to mourn with news vans following you everywhere you went.
The part that was hard to believe was the way in which he had died. He had been found in the woods near your house with seventeen stab wounds. It didnât make any sense. Your brother had been a star football player at your school, part of the popular crowd. He was well-liked amongst students and teachers. You didnât think anyone had a bad opinion of him. Itâs possible he had rivals especially in sports or romances but nothing that would warrant murder.
Initially, there had been a lot of speculation in the town and you had heard all the rumors, including the one where your father had killed him in a fit of rage. You knew it could never be true; your father had been devastated by your brotherâs death. He had been emotionless before, but now he was just a shell of the man he was. And whoever said loss could bring people closer had obviously never met your father.
The truth was that your father had always been emotionally closed for as long as you had known him. Your mother had died from complications after your birth and though he had never voiced it, you knew that he had resented you for being the cause of your motherâs death. At times, you wished you had never been born because living with the guilt had been too much to bear especially living with a father who never forgave you for it.Â
When the police eventually did find a suspect, you were shocked to say the least. Min Yoongi was a few years older than you and had already graduated when the murder weapon as well as your brotherâs blood on his clothing was found. He had always been a serious guy and if you asked most people, they would say they had always believed he kept skeletons in his closet. You knew he was a bit of a recluse, but you never would have guessed he was capable of murder. The motive they came up with was that Yoongi had been jealous of your brotherâs popularity and mixed with his own mental instability, things inevitably came to a day and he decided to act out his aggressions.
Many people wanted to know your side of it, whether you believed the story and whatnot. You had mostly stayed silent on the matter, unlike your father who had screamed at Yoongi in court and had to be dragged out of the room. You can still remember the stares you got from everyone that day - it was the same look you got from most of the town and your classmates. A mix of pity, curiosity, and judgment.
It was safe to say you hadnât been looking forward to this time of year. The true crime fanatics had seemingly been ramping up their shenanigans, hoping to possibly find some clue that would connect more of the dots. The stares you always felt in town and at school hadnât lessened and seemed to be picking up a bit more in recent weeks as the anniversary drew closer.
Which is why most nights, you would find yourself holed up in your bedroom where it was calmer. Much to your best friend's dismay, as she would always try to drag you away to some party or school outing. Haena hated it when you closed yourself off and didnât believe in wallowing alone. In her eyes, it was as if your introvertedness was just a sickness that she had to cure.
The only person who understood your feelings was your boyfriend, Taehyung. He, too, was a bit of a homebody and didnât mind staying in with you most nights. He did have more friends and liked to party, but he never pressured you to go out. Part of you believed he enjoyed having you all to himself that way and for some reason you didnât mind it.
You donât know how you got so lucky getting a boyfriend like Taehyung. He was so dreamy with dark black locks that were often tucked behind his ear and matching dark eyes that seemed to always be on you. He was an artist and could often be found wearing distressed jeans and sweaters with little splotches of paint here and there. He was extremely affectionate, always having to have his hands on you some way or another.
The two of you met in freshman year art class where you had quickly realized you had no business holding a paintbrush, much to Taehyungâs amusement. He would offer to fix up your paintings when the teacher wasnât looking and was the only reason you ended up passing. It wasnât until a little after that semester that the two of you started dating.
A low tapping interrupted your thoughts as you sat in bed, almost too quiet to hear over the television playing in your room. You got up to investigate, pulling your curtains open to see none other than Taehyung leaning up against your window using a ladder to get up here. You werenât even sure if that ladder was yours but you were glad your window didnât face the street where others could see.
You opened the window as you spluttered in shock, stepping back to allow him room to clamber inside. You held your breath as you kept an ear out to make sure your dad hadnât heard his nosy arrival, eyes trained on the door like he would bust in any moment.
âWhat are you doing here?â You hissed once you had regained your composure.
âWhat, I canât visit my girlfriend?â Taehyung pouted. âI missed you.â
âI missed you too but if my dad catches you-â âHe wonât.â Taehyung cut you off, leveling you with his beautiful dark eyes as he leaned closer to you on the bed. âIâm stealthy.â
You breathed out a sigh, at a loss for words from his sudden close proximity. He reminded you of a tiger the way he stared you down like you were prey. You were so mesmerized by him you had missed him inching closer until you could feel his breath on your lips.
âTae-â You tried to stop him but he shushed you, pressing his mouth to yours.
Taehyung was your first serious boyfriend and there hadnât been a single dull moment in your relationship yet. For you, every new experience you had with him had been a thrill. But there was only so many heated makeouts you two could have before you knew he would want to do more. He understood you were inexperienced and was willing to wait but you wondered how much longer before he cracked.
As if on cue, his hand grazed your thigh lightly as if to test the waters. When you didnât stop him, he grew more confident and raised it until it reached your hip, squeezing gently. You appeared calm on the outside but on the inside, your heart was racing.
He pulled back a bit to look you in the eyes, licking his lips as he smirked. âI can feel your heartbeat.â
Your eyes widened in embarrassment as you quickly sat up, covering your cheeks as you felt them heating. You had hoped it wouldnât have been so obvious. Why couldnât you just be normal?Â
âStill so nervous around me after all this time,â He chuckled wryly, lifting a hand to remove the ones covering your face. His fingers caressed your cheek as he gazed at you. âWhat can I do to make you more comfortable, baby?â
âIâm sorry.â You breathed, feeling your heart skip at all the intense eye contact. âI just need more time.â
âDonât be sorry. I told you I would wait.â He gave you a small smile, leaning in to give you another kiss. He brushed a hand through your hair before pulling away and making his way back over to the window.
You watched him begin his descent back down to the ground before an idea popped into your head. You donât know where the sudden confidence came from but the sight of his retreating back made you want to try something.
âTaehyung,â You called out from the window once he had made it all the way down. He looked back up at you curiously, his eyebrows raised in question. âSomething to hold you over for now?â
You didnât wait for him to reply before you lifted your shirt up, exposing your breasts to him from down below. You waited a few nerve wracking seconds before pulling it back down, giggling nervously as you did.
His look of pure shock made it all worth it, preventing any possible embarrassment from flooding into your system. You could tell your stunt had rendered him speechless for a moment, if the choked sputters coming from him were anything to go by.
âI think you just made it worse.â He finally spoke, his voice deep and chilling. You laughed loudly, moving to shut your window closed.
*****
When you arrived at school the next day, the atmosphere was tenser than usual. You were used to people whispering around you but this was different. People seemed to be more huddled in groups. It was as if there was some unseen sinister presence that had arrived. You werenât sure if you could just blame it on the seasons changing but there definitely seemed to be a chill in the air this morning.
A hand grabbing your arm on your way through the courtyard startled you, your heart jumping only to see it was just Haena. Her eyes were wide as she squeezed your forearm urgently. You could tell just by her expression that whatever was going on was serious.
âAre you okay?â
âWhy wouldnât I be?â Your confusion was obvious as you watched realization dawn on her.
âYou havenât heard...â She paused as if trying to find the right words, biting her lip unsurely. âYN, some students were murdered last night.â
âWhat? Who?â The shock spread throughout your body like a numbness, your extremities feeling cold all of the sudden.
âPark Jimin and Yoon Iseul.â
You werenât sure if any names that could possibly come out of her mouth would not come as a shock but this just floored you. Jimin and Iseul were the schoolâs power couple. Everyone was in love with them or wanted to be their friend. The correlation between their deaths and your brotherâs wasnât lost on you. Could it be a copycat killer? You didnât want to think of the alternative - that Yoongi had been wrongfully imprisoned.
âThat must be why everyone is acting so strange today.â You mumbled mindlessly, hearing the words coming out of your mouth but not feeling connected with them. âI just saw Iseul yesterday in sixth period.â
âItâs all Iâve been hearing about this morning. How Iseulâs parents came home to the grizzliest scene you can imagine. They said Jimin was tied up and they found Iseul out- '' Her chattering stopped upon seeing the sick look on your face, her lips pressing together as if just now realizing who she was speaking to. You didnât blame her though - you knew she was just in shock. âWell, you get the gist. Apparently a neighbor saw the killer run out of there wearing some kind of weird ghost mask. Now everyoneâs calling them âGhostface.ââ
âI donât understand why this keeps happening.â
At some point in the day, you were called to the principalâs office for questioning. This wasnât strange, though, as everyone in the entire school was going through the same thing. The police figured their first place to look was at the school, which made sense.
They had asked you simple questions like how well you knew Jimin and Iseul, if you knew if they were in any drama at school, etc. You had answered honestly and as accurately as you could. To be honest, you hadnât the slightest who could have done something like this. But you could sense the detectives figured you might have some clue as you had been around death before. They looked at you like you had some kind of ghost hanging around you.
You decided that going through your day like you always did was the best shot at getting through it, clinging to any shred of normalcy that you could find. And if that meant having lunch with Haena and her usual friend group, then so be it. The seven of you were sitting outside in the courtyard, the climate having warmed up a bit since this morning.
The boys were goofing off with each other as if nothing was wrong, which in a way comforted you. You needed to act like everything was okay or else you could feel your sanity start to slip. Eyeing Haena, she was chatting with Jungkook while throwing her feet in his lap. He was rubbing her lower calves and you couldnât help but watch how comfortable they were with each other in public like this.
It gave you the courage to lean back onto Taehyung who was sitting behind you, his warm chest a welcome embrace. He responded by wrapping his arms around your front, not missing a beat as he conversed with Hobi about the quiz they took this morning.
âDid they ask you guys if you liked to hunt?â Hobi asked all of the sudden, the idle chatter dying down as you all knew he was talking about the police interrogations all students had to partake in today.
âYeah, I just told them I liked to fish.â Jin barked out a laugh.
You wondered out loud, âWhy would they ask that?â
âBecause their bodies were gutted.â Hobi responded matter-of-factly, turning to Jin with a suspicious look. âKind of like a fish.â
âThank you, Hobi.â Taehyung spoke sarcastically and you could practically feel his eye roll from behind you.
âThey didnât ask me about hunting,â Haena frowned in confusion.
âYou think a girl could have pulled off a murder like that? Yeah, right.â Jungkook chuckled, wiggling his eyebrows at her in a condescending manner.
Haena scoffed in disgust, pulling her legs off his lap. âThat is so sexist of you. Plenty of women become serial killers - look at Aileen Wuornos.â
âShe used a gun on her male-only victims. Not exactly the same.â
âYeah, from what I hear Jimin and Iseul were barely recognizable by the time they found them.â Jungkook informed, seemingly undeterred by Haenaâs annoyance. âThe fact is that it would take a man to do something like that.â
âHow do you gut someone?â Your voice trembled as you voiced the question, your curiosity getting the best of you. Taehyung tightened his arms around you and leaned his head on your neck, leaving a kiss there.
It was silent for a moment before Jungkook spoke up, âWell, youâd get a knife and start from the groin-â
âJungkook, shut the fuck up.â Taehyungâs harsh tone left no room for argument and even made you tense up a bit.
âDidnât you date Iseul?â You asked Jungkook.
His eyes lit up for a moment as he chuckled, âYeah, for like two seconds.â
âBefore she dumped him for Jimin!â Hobi chimed in. âHmm, I wonder how the police would feel if they knew you were her lover scorned.â
âWhat, you think I killed her?â Jungkook laughed genuinely, shaking his head in disbelief. âIâm sure you would love to see me behind bars but Iâm afraid I have an alibi.â
Haena rolled her eyes as Jungkook winked at her, fed up with his immaturity. âIf you think Iâm going to defend your misogynistic ass, youâre sorely mistaken.â
Jungkook watched her with a pout as she stood up to leave, gathering her books for the next class. âCome on, baby! You know Iâm not a killer.â
She ignored him as she walked off, which led to him jumping up and following her to no doubt get back in her good graces. Those two had been on-and-off for a while but you would be lying if you said their shenanigans werenât entertaining. He was a pig-headed jock and she was an artsy type. They didnât make any sense but somehow they ended up together.
*****
You went home that day to an empty house and a note on the kitchen table, which both surprised you and somehow didnât. You were used to your father skipping out on you with no notice but to leave a note? That wasnât like him.
Got a lead for a job out of town so Iâll be gone for a few days. Iâll try to call but might not have service -DadÂ
You supposed the message was emotionally detached enough to be from him but you couldnât help the strange feeling you got from reading it. You knew he probably wouldnât call or if he did, it would be just to let you know he was staying longer. He knew you didnât expect much from him and probably preferred it that way. Weirdly enough, you did too.
Exhausted from the day, you threw your bag on the floor and collapsed on the couch. You flipped the TV on and surfed through the channels mindlessly before one with a news headline and familiar face caught your eye. It was a reporter that you recognized almost immediately - Kim Namjoon. He had covered your brotherâs case extensively and even wrote a book about it.
â This small but mighty town has been hit yet again with another gruesome homicide case. Two young teenagers were found brutally murdered in their own home. â He spoke clearly, his dragon-eyes penetrating you through the TV screen. You had seen them in person and knew how deadly their effect could be. â Authorities have yet to release any statement but we know now that no arrest has been made and the murderer could strike again. â
â Could it be merely just a coincidence that this month is the anniversary of yet another senseless killing? It has been only ten months since Min Yoongi was found guilty for the murder of Jung Wooshik, who was also a student at Woodsboro High. â Namjoon continued, and you held your breath as you waited for him to say what you had been fearing. â Many have made a few theories on what could be the meaning of this, including that of a possible copycat killer or perhaps a wrongful imprisonment. Itâs safe to say the town of Woodsboro needs to stay vigilant on protecting its own. â
You cut him off there, not wanting to hear any more. Namjoon had made it clear early on that he was doubtful of Yoongi being the killer and spent most of his news coverage with that perspective. You tried not to take it personally but there had been instances where it seemed like the reporter blamed you for what happened. You knew you werenât directly responsible for Yoongiâs conviction but you couldnât help but wonder if you should feel guilty. You had only told the truth to the judge, that you had seen Yoongi by your house the day your brother died. That your brother had bought some weed from him and that you had seen him leaving while your brother was still alive. What happened between then and when your brother was killed was completely unknown to you.
But your witness testimony along with the physical evidence found in Yoongiâs home and car had been enough to convict him. You can still vividly remember the expression on Yoongiâs face when the verdict was given, as though he hadnât even heard the judge. You couldnât help but be amazed at his absolute indifference to everything going on around him at all times. You had never seen him smile or get angry ever. He kept all his emotions inside and it only fueled to make you more unsure of him.
The sound of the phone ringing loudly next to you made you jump, hand laying on your chest to feel your racing heart. You took a deep breath before you answered, âHello?â
âYN, I just wanted to check on you and make sure you got home okay.â Of course it was just Haena. You knew she worried about you especially when you were home with your father.
âYeah, Iâm okay. My dadâs left town apparently so Iâve got the place to myself.â
âOh shit, really?â She sounded stunned by this. âDidnât he hear the news?â
âNot sure. Although knowing him, he might have just wanted to get away from all the media craziness.â
âDo you want to stay at my place?â As if she could sense your hesitance, she continued in a more serious tone, âI know you probably think Iâm being dramatic but I just donât think you should be alone right now.â
âOkay.â You relented, agreeing that it was probably best to not be isolated and vulnerable with a killer on the loose.
You ran upstairs to pack some clothes for the week, unsure of how long you would be staying there. The thought occurred to you that you should probably let Taehyung know where you would be going just in case he tried to make another surprise sneak-in on you again. You picked up your phone and dialed his number. It rang one time before immediately going to voicemail, causing you to pull the phone back and look at it in confusion. It wasnât like him to outright reject your call, so you tried again. This time it rang all the way through before going to voicemail.Â
âHuh, thatâs weird.â You waited for the automated voice to end and the beep to sound before leaving him a message informing him of where you would be tonight as well as Haenaâs home number in case he needed to reach you later.
When you got to Haenaâs house a little while later, you werenât exactly sure why you felt uneasy all of the sudden seeing the police vehicle in her driveway. Her dad was Sheriff Lee and he had always been like a father to you, more so than your own father anyway. But just seeing his car again after so long and knowing he was in there was dredging up old memories that you had tried to forget.
Haena answered the door with a bright grin and pulled you inside excitedly. You already knew you were in for an eventful next few days, especially with her two younger brothers who were always loud and rambunctious. But oddly enough, you found that you enjoyed being around such a loving and busy household because that had never been your home experience.
You were greeted by warm hugs from Mrs. Lee before she quickly sat you down for dinner with a plate full of food. Haena rolled her eyes at her momâs antics especially when she realized she was not included in this display of special treatment and would have to make her own plate. At some point, Sheriff Lee rolled in and you could tell by the tired lines on his face that this week had taken a toll on him.
He still greeted you with a smile and a pat on the head before joining you all at the table. Mrs. Lee brought her husband a plate and you couldnât help but watch as he grabbed her hand to give it a kiss. The two of them had always been a sweet couple and what with your lack of ever seeing that growing up, you were always fascinated by them.
âHowâs your father doing, YN?â Haenaâs father asked.
âFine,â You answered, rolling a cherry tomato around on your plate with your fork. âHeâs actually on a work trip this week so Haena convinced me to come stay here for a little while if thatâs okay.â
âYou know youâre always welcome here, honey. Youâre practically family.â Mrs Lee was quick to reassure you.
âWork trip, huh?â Sheriff Leeâs eyebrows were drawn together as he held a spoonful of stew in front of him thoughtfully. âDid he mention where?â
âNope. You know how he is,â You answered honestly and he nodded.
Just then, the phone rang and Mrs. Lee got up to go answer it. You were about to go clean your dish when she came back into the kitchen and said, âYN, someoneâs on the phone for you.â
You quickly went over to go pick it up, âHello?â
âYN,â Taehyungâs deep voice came through on the other line, sounding hushed and slightly out-of-breath. âI just got your message.â
âOh, yeah well I just didnât want you to go worrying if you called me and I didnât answer. Haenaâs family is taking care of me.â
âYeah? Thatâs good.â He responded, and you could practically picture him posted up somewhere like the cool guy he was. âAlthough, I wish I had answered when you called because I could have kept you company.â
âIâm sure you would have liked that.â You chuckled. âI donât think my heart can handle another one of your window sneak-ins.â
âWell, I donât think my heart can handle being away from you that long.â
âYouâll still see me at school.â You reasoned, rolling your eyes despite him not being able to see you.
âYeah but thatâs school. You wonât even let me kiss you unless itâs somewhere hidden.â You could practically hear his pout through the receiver. âWhy donât you meet me at your place sometime this week? Iâll cook you dinner and we can finally be alone together.â
You couldnât help but feel overwhelmed at his sudden pushiness to get you alone. You knew if you agreed to meet him at your house that he would probably try to have sex with you again. As much as you wanted to take that step with him, you were scared.
âI donât know if thatâs a good idea, what with the recent murders and all. I think itâs probably best to stay in larger groups.â
âWhat, you donât think I can protect you? I know Iâm skinny but Iâm strong.â
âNo I know you can but itâs just not a good time right now.â
âYeah, I know. You havenât been yourself in a while.â He huffed into the receiver.Â
You laughed sarcastically, unsure if he was being serious right now. âYeah, sorry Iâm not in the mood to have sex with you right now. Iâm kinda still reeling over the deaths of our classmates.â
âI donât mean recently. You havenât been the same since Seowon died.â His words shocked you, not understanding where this was coming from all of the sudden.
âUh, well thatâs kind of what loss does to a person if you didnât know. They change - drastically.â All humor was gone from your tone as you felt yourself getting annoyed with him.
âYeah well itâs been a year since he died and youâre still so skittish around me. Itâs like you think Iâm some kind of bad guy.â
âIâm sorry if my trauma has ruined things for you but no one is making you stay with me. If you need it that badly then you-âÂ
âStop. Thatâs not what I meant at all.â He huffed angrily, taking a pause to gather his thoughts. âListen, I donât want to make you upset. I know itâs hard to see right now but Iâm just feeling insecure. I want to make sure weâre still okay.â
At your silence, he let out another sigh. âIâm gonna let you go now. Please donât be mad at me. I love you.â
He didnât say anything after that but he stayed on the line, and you knew he was waiting for you to say it back. Hoping for you to say it back. And as pissed off as he had made you, you hated the idea of going to bed mad at him. So you conceded, for now.
âI love you too.â
*****
When you arrived on campus the next day, you spotted Namjoon standing near his usual news van. He was dressed smartly in an olive sweater and gray slacks, his glasses making him look more like a university student than a reporter. He was busy sorting through some papers, probably brushing up on his notes before he did his next broadcast.
You felt compelled to speak with him, especially after everything that had been going on recently. Over the past year, he had reached out to you multiple times for a comment and you always declined. The only time you had spoken in-person was after the court case had ended and it hadnât been the most cordial moment.
âYN, this is a surprise. What can I do for you?â Namjoon raised his eyebrows at you, a mix of curiosity and something else you couldnât quite pick up in his expression.
âI wanted to talk to you about Min Yoongi.â
âOkay.â He spoke slowly, glancing over at his camera crew who were standing a few feet away. âIâm guessing this is off the record?â
âYes, please.â You paused, trying to think on how to start. âI know you probably donât think very highly of me.â
âWhat makes you say that?â
âWell, you wrote a whole book on how my witness testimony was the reason an innocent man was imprisoned.â
âYes. I still stand by that.â He responded honestly, crossing his arms over his chest.
âSo what, you think Iâm a liar?â
âYou painted a picture that made him look like a killer. I think you were so desperate for all the media coverage and court trials to end that you picked him as a scapegoat.â
âHave you talked to Yoongi?â
âMany times. He admits to selling drugs to your brother but thatâs all.â The look on his face told you just how in-depth their conversations had gone. Namjoon was a very detail-oriented man.
âThen how do you explain the blood on his clothes and the murder weapon in his home?â
âHis roommate testified that he came home high with no blood on his clothes. Someone else planted all that evidence and framed him.â The way he spoke of Yoongi was almost like they were close; he clearly felt very strongly about clearing his name.
âWhy are you so adamant on proving his innocence? Did you know him?â
âWhy do you care what I think?â Namjoonâs face screwed up as he seemed to grow more irritated with you. This was the real emotion you expected to get from him, behind the friendly facade he tried to put on with you. âYou got what you wanted, didnât you? Yoongiâs life is ruined, heâll never see the light of day again.â
âThatâs not what I wanted.â Now, it was your turn to look confused. âI wanted justice. I told the judge exactly what I saw that day.â
His lips pursed as he thought for a moment, processing your words. âYes, I knew Yoongi. We werenât exactly friends but anyone who knew him knew he was harmless. He wouldnât hurt a fly.â
âHarmless and yet he sold drugs to teenagers?â You regretted it as soon as it came out your mouth. You knew it was a low blow and you didnât truly care that he did that anyway but you needed to cling onto some semblance that you made the right call.
He hummed as he searched your face for a moment, âWhy are you asking me about Yoongi all of the sudden? Youâre not so sure anymore, are you?â
âNo, Yoongi murdered my brother.â You werenât even sure if you believed yourself at how weak your voice sounded.
âThese murders are related, arenât they? The killerâs still on the loose.â He sounded almost triumphant as he marveled at your recent revelation, the cogs in his head working on overdrive. You had just confirmed his biggest theory yet despite your best efforts not to.
Now was a good time to leave. You werenât sure what you had hoped to get out of this interaction but it wasnât this. You had been avoiding the truth for a long time but it was catching up to you.Â
âGoodbye, Namjoon. Always a pleasure.â He didnât respond as he watched you move to leave, his lips moving as he quietly murmured to himself. Despite his dark calculating eyes following your every move, you knew that he was in a different place conjuring up his next news broadcast.
*****
Halfway through the school day, it became apparent that Principal Choi had not shown up nor called in sick. After multiple attempts to reach his home phone, one of the administrators called the police to do a wellness check. And what they had found upon entering his home had been what everyone was fearing.
The news of Principal Choiâs death spread through the school like wildfire and you could tell the staff struggled to hold themselves together while keeping the students organized. A few police officers arrived at the school to work with the administrators on figuring out how to go about letting the students go home.
You were in the library with Haena and Jungkook when a pair of boys came running through your section and drawing the attention of everyone nearby. One was screaming in an exaggerated manner and the other was wearing the infamous Ghostface mask and chasing the former. You could tell they were just playing a prank but you didnât see how anyone could be making fun of the situation right now.
âWhat is wrong with people?â
âAre you kidding me? Look at this place, itâs like Halloween.â Jungkook threw his head back and laughed.
âStupidity leak!â Haena berated him, whacking him in the head with her notebook.
You shook your head at him, deciding to just ignore his comment. âHave you guys seen Taehyung around?â
âYou mean after you gave him blue balls? No, his heartâs broken.â
âJungkook,â Haena elbowed him hard, causing him to grunt.
âHe said that?â You were shocked that even Jungkook knew about your lack of a sex life but should have known that boys would talk just like girls did.
âOf course he did. The guyâs crazy about you.â
âWhat guyâs crazy about her?â Speak of the devil and he shall appear. Taehyung leaned over you from behind to kiss the top of your head, causing your heart to do a flip.
âKeanu Reeves, of course.â You mouthed a âthank youâ to Haena at her swift coverup, causing her to give you a wink.
âHey, can I talk to you for a second?â Taehyung whispered in your ear and held your hand as he pulled you out of your chair. Haena ignored Jungkook trying to get her attention as she watched you follow your boyfriend to a more secluded area.Â
âIâm really sorry about what I said before - it was way out of line. Iâve been a little out of sorts lately with everything going on.â He sounded vulnerable as he spoke, and you couldnât help but feel your heart tug at his remorseful face. He had always been the type to wear his heart on his sleeve. âI just want us to be okay again. I want my girlfriend back.â
âIâm still your girlfriend,â You rolled your eyes playfully, squeezing his hand in yours. âBut Iâm sorry if Iâve made you feel insecure. I know Iâve been acting different for a while and it wasnât fair to you. I guess I just havenât been dealing with my trauma very well.â
âThatâs not your fault. You donât need to feel bad about how you grieve.â He reached up to tuck a lock of hair behind your ear, a soft expression on his face.
âI havenât been grieving at all - thatâs the problem. Itâs like my emotions have been shut off.â You sighed, shutting your eyes as his hand moved to caress your cheek. âI canât keep hiding in my room forever. I need to move on.â
When you opened your eyes again, Taehyung was watching you carefully with his mouth pressed shut. You wished you could read his mind. There was more you wanted to say but you found it hard to find the words, so you decided to let your actions speak by leaning forward and kissing him deeply.
You could tell he hadnât expected you to make the move by the way he froze but he quickly recovered, pulling you closer with his arms settling around your waist. You pressed yourself to him as he leaned against the bookshelf. This was the most hot and heavy you had ever been in public and you could tell he was enjoying it, not wanting to part from you for even a second.
When you did eventually pull away, you felt brave enough to ask, âWill you meet me at my house later?â
You felt him tense up in shock yet again but couldnât see his face as you were leaning on his chest. You dared to look up and see him looking at you with wide eyes.
âI thought you wanted to stay at Haenaâs.â
âI changed my mind.â You shrugged, feeling giddy as his face lit up. âYouâll protect me from any bad guys, right?â
He pulled you in again, wrapping his arms around you tightly and resting his chin on the crown of your head. You had never felt safer.
âI wonât let anything happen to you.â
Taehyung has always been careful and thoughtful about how he treated you. His touches were gentle and soft; you couldnât imagine him hurting a fly. Maybe it was just his artsy persona but you had always known him to be a deep, considerate person. He was meticulous about every detail, whether it was his art or his life. Sometimes it seemed like he truly believed life was art; a painting that was ever-changing and inspiring.
You were a masterpiece in his eyes. Something to be cherished and never tarnished. That was why he wanted to keep you safe from the evil in the world. He knew that life had already not been fair to you. But he believed it was his job to prevent any further wrongdoings from coming into your life. He wouldnât hesitate to destroy anyone who would even try to cause you harm.
It was when you were laid out on your bed looking like an angel, Taehyung felt like he was truly going to Hell. Surely God was coming for him because he had stolen an angel and kept her all to himself. You had given yourself up to him and you didnât know it yet but he would never let you go. How could he?
The only word to describe it was heaven. Having you in his arms like this, touching parts of you his hands had never dared to before - it was pure bliss. He wanted to stay like this forever. There was nothing out there for either of you. Everything you both needed was right here, in each otherâs arms.
He had lost count of how many times he made you come undone before he had even entered you. This wasnât his first time but it may as well have been with the way he struggled to not fall apart almost immediately. You were his weakness and at the same time you were the only thing keeping him together most of the time. He didnât care how old you both were - you were it for him.
You had always imagined your first time would be like a dream, full of romantic candles and roses. The reality of it was much different, more natural, and yet you found it to be better than you could have ever imagined. You felt like one of Taehyungâs paintings as his lips and fingertips caressed you everywhere, molding you into one of his perfect creations. You were his muse and you had never felt so beautiful.
It was a night of passion and love; the perfect embodiment of your relationship. Whatever rocky period you had been going through before was long gone and you almost couldnât believe you had ever wanted to delay this. This was where you needed to be. You knew you probably sounded like a naive teenager, but you didnât want to think of anyone else in this way ever. You only wanted Taehyung.
âIâll always love you, YN. Iâll never leave you.â
The next day, you were on your way to your locker when you spied Haena waiting for you. You tried to act indifferent to Haenaâs wide eyes looking you up and down as you approached her. It was as if she was trying to find some kind of visible evidence on you.
âSo?â You knew she wanted to know what happened last night, but you werenât ready to spill so soon.Â
âSo... what?â You acted ignorant as you opened up your locker, reaching for your math textbook.
âOh come on, Iâm dying here! Spill.â
âOkay, okay.â Laughter bursted out of you, your resolve crumbling before you could even try to build it up. âWe, uh... did it.â
âMore details, please.â She rolled her eyes at your vagueness.
âIt was really sweet. He made us a nice dinner and then we...â You cringed, not knowing how to talk about it without sounding corny. âI donât know how to describe it.â
âWell, did it hurt? Did you come?â You nodded to both questions honestly and her eyebrows raised as she became more intrigued. âHow many times?â
When she saw you counting on your fingers higher and higher, she blew a low whistle. âGod damn. Good for you, girl.â
âI feel like he set the bar pretty high. Is it always like this or is he just really talented?â
âWell, it depends. Jungkook is usually pretty good but sometimes heâs too drunk or lazy and then I end up doing most of the work myself.â
You pursed your lips in thought, âDoesnât he go down on you before?â
Her eyes widened as she opened her mouth in shock, âCan I borrow him?â
You smacked her on the arm as she laughed, linking arms with you as you both made your way to class.
âOh, by the way, Jungkookâs having a party at his house later.â She mentioned nonchalantly as she popped her gum in her mouth.
âWhat about curfew?â
She shrugged, âI donât think theyâre being too strict about it. Itâs probably safer that weâre all together anyway.â
You still looked convinced, so she added, âBut if youâre really worried, we can just stay over at his place. His parents are out of town.â
âDoes your dad know?â You glanced at her curiously.
âGod, no,â she laughed, shaking her head. âHeâs working a night shift so heâll be busy patrolling. And Iâll just tell my mom weâre staying at yours.â
âOkay. We can go.â
âYeah?â She looked surprised, a bright smile painting her face. It was infectious as you found yourself smiling back at her and nodding. She bumped shoulders with you, wiggling her eyebrows as she leaned in, âHmm, I like the new you. Sheâs fun.â
You were surprised how easy it was for you to agree to the party. Maybe last night gave you more confidence to just live a little. All you knew was the old you would have opted to stay at Haenaâs for another night in and you didnât want to be stuck in your old ways. You owed it to yourself and everyone you loved to move on.
You had foolishly fallen into a sense of false security, not necessarily forgetting about the horrors your town had been cursed with but just for once not having it in the forefront of your mind. You had felt closer to your boyfriend than ever before and now you were ready to be more adventurous. It wasnât until later in the day did that bubble of excitement pop.
When the classroom door opened to reveal Sheriff Lee, the students around you immediately began whispering to each other conspiringly. You wondered what it could be this time around as he whispered something to the teacher before turning back to face front with a serious expression. Your teacherâs eyes landed on you as she waved her hand, âYN.â
Everyone around you hushed as you gathered your things with shaking hands, making your way to the front of the room quickly. The air out in the hallway felt different, less suffocating. It somewhat helped your rising anxiety.
One look at Sheriff Lee gave you a new perspective of this man who had practically raised you. He wasnât that old, only early 50s, but the stress he had put under with his profession had aged him. He had tired bags under his eyes, worry lines on his forehead, and sprouting grays here and there. He had always been handsome and you could tell he would continue to age like wine. But that didnât change how sad it made you to see him in this state.
âYN, Iâm afraid I have some bad news. There was a report of a car that wrecked on the side of the road just outside of town.â He spoke slowly as he relayed the information, the consideration from him not lost on you. You were trying to process it all while still not understanding why he was telling you this. âIt was your dadâs car.â
Your heart stopped as you clutched your school bag in your hand. Thoughts were going wild in your head as your breathing became erratic. You didnât know what any of this meant.Â
âWhat, um... is he dead?â Your tongue felt disconnected like your brain was just on autopilot.
âNo one has seen him yet.â He sighed, a deep frown etched across his features. âI know you said he was leaving for a work trip but have you spoken to him at all since he left?â
He was aware that your father wasnât known for contacting you at times like these, but you understood he still had to ask. âNo. The last time I saw him was the night before he left.â
He nodded as if he expected that, giving you a small smile. âWell, weâll keep looking. In the meantime, I want you to stay out of your house in case there are any clues to where he could have gone. And itâs probably safer that youâre not alone right now.â
âOkay.â
It seemed like he wanted to say more but clearly was out of his depth when it came to comforting someone. It wasnât like he could make any promises about finding your dad because the truth was he was most likely gone. You had dealt with enough loss that you knew this feeling well. You gave him a matching small smile, albeit weak but you hoped it would appear encouraging.
âThank you, Sheriff Lee.â
*****
School ended early that day, mostly due to the fact that half the staff had called out in fear of receiving the same fate as Principal Choi. It was strange that they even had anyone come in at all but you figured the police had already suspected the killer was at the school, thus being their best bet at finding them. Everyone was on edge as if Ghostface was still lurking in its shadows. Which technically, he probably was.
You had already started to go through in your mind which students in your school could have done it. There were a few stronger girls in your class who could have had the physical power to do it, but they were all too nice or non confrontational. There were plenty of bully-like guys that could fit the description, but you had a hard time truly seeing any of your classmates being involved in such gruesome scenes. Itâs just that all the victims had one thing in common: the high school. It only made sense that all suspicion would be pointed here.
Eventually, you gave up trying to figure it out because you were only going in circles in your head. The police would figure it out. Tonight was supposed to be fun and you were sure the killer wouldnât be brave enough to attack a whole group of teenagers. There was strength in numbers and you felt safer this way.
As you and Haena made your way up the driveway, music could be heard blasting from inside. You werenât even that late but it seems the party was already in full swing. There were a dozen football players and cheerleaders lounging in the main room when you walked in, most of them unknown to you. Haena greeted a few people in the hallway and you followed her into the kitchen as she searched for some refreshments.Â
âItâs about time you guys showed up,â Jungkook yelled from where he was standing by the snack table.
âI see you guys couldnât wait to get started,â Haena eyed where Hobi was pouring beer down a funnel into Jinâs mouth.
âWell no one told you guys to arrive fashionably late,â Hobi replied, high-fiving Jin before switching places with him. Haena rolled her eyes, moving on to talk to Jungkook on the other side of the room.
âHey, have you guys seen Taehyung?â You asked, leaning against the countertop island.
âHe was in here earlier. I think he said something about going outside for a smoke,â Jin informed, not taking his eyes off where he was pouring.
You briefly wondered how you had missed him if you had just come from the outside but shrugged it off. He had to be around here somewhere. You ventured out into the main room and plopped down on the couch. The music had been turned down a bit as they were going back and forth trying to decide what movie to watch. For some reason, the genre they had settled on was horror which was in poor taste in your opinion. At least it was entertaining to hear them argue about who usually survives in a horror movie.
A hand on your shoulder startled you, looking up to see Hobi standing there with the telephone. âPhone for you.â
You held in your confusion as you got up to take the call in a quieter area. âHello?â
âYN, itâs Namjoon.â Of all people who could be calling you, he was probably the last one you would suspect. âAre you guys okay?â
âYes, why wouldnât we be?â
âIâm guessing you havenât heard yet.â He sighed and your heart thudded in your chest, unable to speak as you willed him to continue. âSheriff Leeâs dead. They found him strung up on one of the field goals in the football field.â
You almost dropped the phone, a stuttered gasp being the only sound you could make for a moment.Â
âOh god,â you finally spoke, your hand coming up to cover your mouth. âI think Iâm gonna be sick.â
âIs Haena with you?â He asked quickly, trying to distract you.
âYes.â Swallowing, you covered your other ear as the voices in the main room started getting louder. How were you supposed to tell everyone? You were surprised you were even still standing.
âStay with her. If I were you, I wouldnât leave that house. â
You were still so in shock from the news about your Haenaâs father that it suddenly dawned on you that he had figured out where you were without you ever telling him.Â
âHow did you know I was here?â
âSomeone reported a large gathering of students at the Jeon house on the scanner. I had a feeling you would be there.â His answer was a shock to you, not expecting anyone to know about the party as it was out on the edge of town.
âO-okay, I better go warn everyone...â
âYN?â You held in your breath as you waited for him to continue, unease crawling into your system at his pause. âBe careful.â
For him to sound so concerned for you only heightened your paranoia, quickly walking back into the main room where everyone was. Jungkook was sprawled out on the couch now along with Jin and Hobi, throwing his head back at something the latter had said. You shakily placed the phone back on the stand.
âJungkook, I need to talk to you.â You were surprised your voice was so steady, his big eyes meeting yours as he took in your expression.
âAre you okay? You look like youâve seen a ghost,â He joked, standing up to meet you behind the couch.
âKim Namjoon just called me,â You felt your stomach flip as you held the back of the couch for support. âSheriff Lee was murdered.â
You had tried to be discreet about it but your shock must have garnered enough attention, gasps sounding around the room as they all picked up on what you had revealed.
âHoly shit, Iâm getting out of here.â
There was a chorus of responses as people started to make themselves scarce, clearly not in the mood for a party anymore. The only ones that stayed were Hobi and Jin, either not concerned enough about the killer or not brave enough to leave the house. You werenât sure which group you belonged to but you knew you had to find Haena. You looked up at Jungkook, who was staring at the carpet with a serious expression on his face and biting his lip.
âWhereâs Haena?â It was like he almost didnât hear you until you shook his shoulder. âJungkook?â
âUm, she went to get more beer-â He blinked a few times, waving his arm behind him. âGarage.â
You walked quickly around the house, trying to find the correct door to the garage. When you finally did, it was pitch black save for some light coming in from the opened garage door. You almost turned back as it was clear there was no one in here before something made you stop. There was no noise, no movement but you felt like something was in here.
Your hand sought out the light, switching it on and blinking as it flicked a few times before brightening up the room. Your gaze flitted around, almost giving up before you saw something dark and red that made you flinch backwards.Â
There was a piercing scream and you felt the ground beneath you move, your ass hitting the wooden step hard. It wasnât long before thundering steps came behind you, stopping as they hit your back. Your ears, seemingly filled with water with how muted everything seemed, caught a few more gasps and screams. Hands gripped you under your armpits, pulling you up over the steps and back into the hallway.
After that, everything was a blur of commotion. You were vaguely aware of people yelling around you but it wasnât until Hobi crouched down, waving his hand in front of your face that you felt alert again.
âI think sheâs in shock,â He relayed to the others.
âYN?â Taehyungâs voice sounded from the other end of the hallway, his expression bewildered as he approached quickly. âI heard screaming.â
âJesus, where have you been Tae?â Jin asked.
âHaving a smoke,â Hobi moved out of the way so Taehyung could kneel before you, bringing his hands to your cheeks and analyzing your face closely. âWhat happened? Are you okay?â
âHaena...â
âGo find Jungkook,â Tae instructed the older two.
Hobi groaned, âWhy do we have to keep splitting up? This is what the killer wants!â
Jin smacked him behind his head, angling his head towards your shell shocked figure. âShut up, would you?â
The two of them walked off, bickering quietly as they went. Taehyung sat with you silently as you stayed in the same position, wiping away any tears that escaped. You stared at the floor as your mind raced with a million thoughts, not a single one sticking long enough for you to linger on.
How could this happen so fast? You had just seen Haena in the kitchen talking to Jungkook. Everything was fine. You couldnât have been gone from her for more than thirty minutes and yet so much had changed. It didnât make any sense.
First Sheriff Lee, now Haena. The killer was getting closer. No, the killer was already here. It couldnât have been Jungkook, Hobi, or Jin. They had all been with you.
But...
âTaehyung?â He looked up at you, surprised to hear your voice finally. He leaned in, reaching a hand out to brush your hair back but you shied away. He reared back in shock, his expression confused as he met your suspicious one.
âWhat?â
âYou were... smoking? For thirty minutes?â Your voice was unsure as you questioned him, sounding stuffed up from all the crying.
âYes, wh-â The sound of screaming from outside interrupted him. You shot up from your spot, running towards the front door where it came from. âWait, YN! Donât!â
You ignored him as you threw open the door; you needed to stop any more evil from happening. You had already lost so much in your life. Enough was enough.
The sight of Hobiâs bloody body laying on the front steps had you freezing in your tracks, feeling Taehyungâs chest collide with your back a moment later. The two of you stared in shock before you became aware of the violent tussle happening further out in the yard. It was hard to make it out but it looked like Jungkook and Jin were fighting. What the hell had happened? You were guessing this was Jungkookâs fight-or-flight response to finding out about Haena.
âStay right here,â Taehyung spoke softly to you as he brushed past you, walking around Hobiâs battered body and approaching the two other boys with a calmness you didnât quite understand.
The further he went out, the harder it was to make out who was who especially as they moved between bushes and trees. You felt anxious and stupid as you just stood there, your feet itching to move out and help them but not knowing if it was a smart idea.
âYN,â A voice coughed out from below you, a gasp escaping as you fell to your knees where Hobi was laying. You had been so distracted by the fight that you almost forgot he was there.
âWhat happened?â You asked urgently, grabbing one of his hands and squeezing.
He choked a bit, blood spraying out onto his lips and neck. âDonât trust them.â He gave your hand one last squeeze, meeting your eyes as if to make the message stronger. You watched in concern as he closed his eyes, chest rising and falling rapidly. He was still alive but he wasnât doing well. He needed medical care immediately.
âYN! Get inside now!â Your head flew up to see Taehyung underneath Jin, the two of them fighting over something shiny and sharp-looking between them as what looked like Jungkook was passed out next to them.
Your gaze flew back and forth from them to Hobiâs unconscious face, trying to figure out who to believe. You took a deep breath and ran back inside, locking the door behind you as you ran for the phone. You hit redial, hoping it would direct you to Namjoon. You never thought you could ever cry with relief at hearing his voice.
âYN? Are you okay?â
âNamjoon, tell the police the boys must have snapped or something, I donât know. But Haenaâs dead and we need help.â The words flew out of you so fast you werenât even sure what all you said, hoping you got the message across as you huffed.
The line went silent at that, and you held your breath as you waited for a response. But there was nothing - just dead air.
âHello? Namjoon?â You tried again, pulling the phone away before you realized the line was dead. Someone had cut the lines. âShit.â
Just then, a sudden banging could be heard from the front door followed by desperate shouts of your name. You ran over to it, ready to unlock the door when you hesitated with your hand on the lock.
âWhoâs there?â
âYN, let me in! Hurry!â The urgency in Jinâs voice made you throw open the door, gasping when you saw him covered in blood with a knife in his hand.
âJin, what-â
âDonât let him in, YN! He attacked me!â Jungkook suddenly appeared behind him, a deep cut on his cheek that hadnât been there before.Â
You looked between Jungkook and Jin, trying to decipher who to believe but not finding any conclusive evidence. To be honest, when you saw them out in the yard before, it was hard to tell who had even started the fight. And now seeing them both with blood on them, you felt at a loss. All you knew was people were dying and someone had cut the phone lines. You didnât know who you could trust.
âFuck, I canât.â You slammed the door as quickly as you could, locking it again. The banging and shouting continued.
âHelp me! Heâs gone crazy!â
You stood there for a few moments, palms still on the door as you willed your racing heart to calm down. Tonight had been nonstop crazy and you couldnât remember the last time it was at a resting rate. Before you could turn around, a pair of hands landed on your shoulders and ruined any chance of your heartbeat slowing down any time soon. You shrieked as you turned around, not expecting to see Taehyung standing behind you.Â
âShh, itâs just me.â He shushed you, putting his hands on your shoulders to calm you down.Â
âWh- how did you get in here?â You hadnât seen him outside just now.
âI came in through the back. Are you okay?â He checked over your body, fingers brushing over the visible skin on your face and arms.
âIâm fine but Tae, where have you been all night?â Your exasperated tone caught him off guard, a somber look coating his features as he regarded you. âIâm getting really freaked out.â
âIâm sorry, I didnât mean to run off like that. Iâve just been trying to protect you.â His words didnât make any sense but you werenât thinking clearly enough to dissect what he meant.
The banging grew louder and Taehyung moved to open it. The roles were reversed this time as you shook your head at him, silently urging him not to let anyone in. Your fingers gripped the sleeve of his sweater anxiously. He turned to look at you, his hand coming up to cover yours on his arm.
âItâs okay. You can trust me.â He nodded at you with a small smile, and you released the breath you didnât know you were holding.
The door swung open to reveal Jungkook standing there looking out of breath, but his face lit up when he saw you standing there with Taehyung. A grin broke out across his face, âThe gangâs all here!â
You could only watch in confusion as Jungkook stepped in in the same move that Taehyung backed you up with him. Jungkook shut the door behind him looking gleeful as ever. You looked at Taehyung who had a serious look on his face but you recognized a glint of something in his eye, almost like he had just won a bet or something.
âWhatâs going on?â You asked, stepping back cautiously from them. The energy had changed drastically and you didnât like it one bit.
Taehyung eyed you like you were a scared animal, holding his hands out as if to placate you. His gaze was locked on yours and you almost felt like he could read your thoughts, anticipating your next move before you could even do it.
âSurprise, YN.â Jungkook smirked at you, looking far too elated right now to have just lost his girlfriend.
Your eyes flitted back and forth between the two of them before you spun around, racing toward the kitchen to find something you could defend yourself with. Although you had no proof, you knew it was them. Taehyung and Jungkook were the killers. You didnât have time to feel heartbroken and betrayed. Your only thought right now was survival.
Before you could get far, arms wrapped around your waist and yanked you back towards a firm chest. You eyed the knife block longingly - so close. Taehyung held you tightly to his front, turning the two of you around so you were backed up against the counter. Jungkook leered from across the room looking like a dangerous predator.
âWhy are you doing this?â You cried, hot tears streaming down your face.
âI already told you. Iâm protecting you.â Taehyung explained as if it was the most obvious thing.
âBy killing all my family and friends? Youâre fucking crazy!â Your voice grew louder, unable to feel shy about getting angry despite being caught in a murdererâs arms.
Taehyung was a murder. Your soft, loving, artsy boyfriend was a cold-blooded killer. This was a nightmare; this couldnât be real.
âYes, I am crazy, but only for you. I would do anything for you, YN.â
âYouâll never get away with this.â
Jungkook chuckled, âTell that to Min Yoongi. You wouldnât believe how easy he was to frame.â
âWhat did you have against my brother?â There was a lot to unpack here but this was the question you had been wondering for a whole year.
âYour brother wasnât the picture perfect star quarterback everyone believed him to be. He had a bad habit of date raping girls from other schools, including my cousin.â Taehyung answered for you, the lack of eye contact with him making him hard to read if what he was saying was true.
âYouâre lying,â You hissed, trying desperately to break out of his arms.
âWhy are you defending him? He was never nice to you.â Jungkook reminded you, his eyes calculating and cold. âFace it, YN. Your brother was a bad apple who got what was coming to him.â
âWhat do you have to gain from this?â
âWell, naturally, I wanted his spot on the team.â He grinned at you, flashing a perfect set of teeth. âIt wasnât hard for Taehyung to convince me once I realized what a piece of shit he was.â
âAnd Haena?â You glared at Jungkook. âHow could you kill your own girlfriend?â
âI canât take credit for that,â He nodded towards Taehyung behind you and you felt your body go still. âYou saw me. I was here the whole night.â
âWrong place, wrong time.â Taehyung added, leaning his head on the space between your shoulder and your neck. âBut I wonât lie. I hated sharing her with you all the time.â
âYouâre okay with him murdering your girlfriend?â
âI liked Haena but she didnât get me. She didnât get you either.â Jungkook approached the two of you slowly, dark gaze zeroed in on your anguished expression. He reached out to caress your face, causing you to tense up as Taehyung straightened behind you. âYouâre too good for her.â
âJungkook.â Taehyungâs voice was rough as he motioned with his head towards another part of the kitchen. The two shared some sort of unspoken communication as something dawned on the other boy.
âOh yeah! We got a surprise for you, YN.â Jungkookâs voice grew louder and more excited as he walked towards the hallway closet door. âYouâre gonna love this. Itâs a scream, baby.â
It didnât take him long to retrieve what he was looking for, your eyes almost bulging out of your head as you saw who it was. âDad!â He was tied up with tape around his mouth and a nasty cut on his forehead.
âSee, YN? We got it all figured out, donât worry.â Jungkook began, pulling the knife from his pants and stuffing it in your dadâs belt. âThe cops are already onto him and now the evidence is all over him. Just one more thing to do.â
Leaving you no time to react, Jungkook pulled a gun from behind his pants and aimed it right at your fatherâs head, shooting him dead. You couldnât help the scream that tore out of your lungs. You felt cold all over, like your body had disconnected from your brain. Vaguely, you registered Taehyungâs arms holding you steady as your knees buckled.
âHe deserved it, YN.â Taehyung spoke so plainly about the murder of your father like it was just a harmless prank he had pulled, âHe didnât appreciate what he had. Deep down, we all know he blamed you for being the one that survived. He never loved you the way a father should.â
The harsh reality of his words hurt. It was like he was looking into your soul, into your deepest darkest feelings that you had tried to keep down for so long.
âWe did you a favor.â Jungkook added, his dark stare penetrating you where you stood behind the kitchen island. âAnd he makes the perfect suspect, triggered by your brothersâ death anniversary, then goes on a killing spree and finally kills himself with the sheriffâs gun. Itâs like it was meant to be.â
These two were insane, no doubt about it. They had seen too many scary movies and now they felt like they were invincible. You could practically feel the adrenaline running through Taehyungâs veins.
âAnd now what? Iâm next?â
âOf course not,â Taehyung laughed, switching you around so that he cornered you into the kitchen counter. He leaned in and pressed a kiss to your forehead, ignoring your deep cringe. âThis has all been for you, baby.â
âNow, we finish what we started.â
Faster than you could blink, Taehyung swung at Jungkook, causing him to keel over. Red started pooling through the side of his shirt as he coughed into his hand, staining it with blood. You couldnât believe your eyes.
âTae, what the fuck?â Jungkook grunted, holding his side as he looked up at Taehyung in shock.
âI changed my mind. I donât need a sidekick anymore.â Taehyung sneered, a venomous look on his face. âThanks for all the help, buddy.â
Jungkook fell to the kitchen floor and Taehyung moved on top of him, stabbing him a few more times for good measure. In his bloodlust frenzy, he failed to notice that he had turned his back on you. Not only that, but the gun in Jungkookâs hand was now within reach of you.
You wasted no time in falling to your knees to grab it, quickly standing up and aiming it at the back of his head. Taehyung froze, still not facing you but somehow already figuring out his mistake. It was a foolish move on his part but he wasnât exactly thinking clearly.
âDonât move.â You spoke clearly, trying to keep your hand steady.
He didnât listen to you though, moving slowly and carefully as he got off of Jungkook. He turned around with his hands raised, eyes wide as he stared at you. âYN, donât do anything youâll regret.â
âI said donât move!â You yelled, your fingers trembling. You had never even held a gun before and now here you were aiming it at the love of your life.
âI know you donât understand right now but you have to know: I did it all for you. So that we could be closer. I never meant to hurt you.â The sight of him inching further set you off, giving you the motivation you needed to pull the trigger.
âGoodbye, Taehyung.â You closed your eyes, not wanting to see the image of the light draining from his eyes.
It was over.
*****
Months later, you were relieved to find that life had seemed to calm down after that horrible night full of evil and bloodshed. You had suffered and lost so many people you loved. Much like a year before, only this time you felt somewhat hopeful for the future. Death couldnât follow you around anymore like a bad curse; the evil was dead and gone from your life. It was the only thing keeping you going.
That and having a positive influence in your life, like for example Namjoon. He was the first to find you there at the Jeon house after getting your phone call but never receiving your message due to the phones being tampered with. You were lying on the kitchen floor, covered in blood and still in shock over everything. He had been so helpful, urging you to call 911 on his cell phone while he checked to see if Hobi and Jin were still somehow alive - which by some miracle, they were. They had sustained serious injuries and were lucky to be alive, each spending quite some time in the hospital and then physical therapy after that. You visited them almost every day.
It had been hard, dealing with the survivorâs guilt. Losing your entire family, best friend, and boyfriend (even though he had been the cause of it all) had done some serious damage to your mental health. And despite all the therapy you had been receiving and would continue to receive, you knew it would never completely be healed. But that was okay. In your mind, you deserved some kind of scar from the whole ordeal since you hadnât suffered any physical injuries. Several of your friends were dead or badly hurt - you could deal with it if not for yourself, then for them.
The best part about it was being able to exonerate Yoongi. To finally be able to see some emotion from him on the day the judge ruled him not guilty had been life changing. Yoongi had always been such a calm guy and never blamed you for the year of his life wasted behind bars. You wanted desperately to make it up for him but didnât know how you possibly could. Namjoon assured you that you had done enough but the guilt never seemed to go away.
Namjoon and you had started to develop more of a friendly relationship, something you had never expected to come out of this. But after all the conflict was gone, it was much easier to see each otherâs point of view. And the truth was, he had always been right.
âGot any plans this weekend?â Namjoon asked as he poured some sugar into his coffee before taking a sip.
âNot sure,â you began, taking a breath as you thought it over. âI got invited to an end-of-year party but Iâm not sure if I should go. Feels too soon.â
âOh, you should definitely go. Itâs not as soon as you think.â He responded encouragingly, sounding like a big brother.
âI just donât see what thereâs to celebrate about.â You shrugged, meeting his gaze.
âThereâs plenty to celebrate! How about surviving a tragic murder spree, exonerating an innocent man, finishing up a school year?â You didnât look convinced, so he tried again, âCome on, I think it would be good for you to get out. You shouldnât stay in that big house by yourself all the time.â
âYou sound like my therapist.â You rolled your eyes at him, stirring the tea in your cup mindlessly.
âWell, you sound like a petulant child.â He chuckled.
You opened your mouth to retort, eyes flying up to look at him when something in the distance caught your eye. Your body felt cold, frozen up as you stared at the familiar figure. Dark black mop of hair covered his face, baggy sweater and jeans on his frame. You blinked a few times but he didnât move at all. It didnât make any sense.Â
âYN? What is it?â Namjoon waved a hand in your face, distracting you from whatever it was you just saw.
âHuh?â You asked, blinking at Namjoon before glancing back at where he stood before. Only now, there was nobody in sight. You cleared your throat as your gaze fell back on the man before you, âUh, nothing.â
âYou looked like you saw a ghost.â He laughed, eyebrows furrowing at you in a concerned manner.
âYeah, right.â You shook your head. There was no such thing.
Iâll always love you, YN. Iâll never leave you.
ây/n, stop moving! Youâre going to make the tent fall over!â
You rolled your eyes at the dramatic way Taehyung had called that out, hands remaining in the steady grip on the tent theyâd maintained the whole time youâd been helping him.
âYouâre the one moving the tent, idiot,â you snorted, grinning when he sent you an affronted look. âAlso I know weâre a good few miles from the town at the bottom of this mountain but that doesnât mean you can be so loud, jesus.â
Taehyung beamed at you, nimble fingers making quick work of straightening the pole he had to slip inside the tent to keep it upright. âOn the contrary,â he said, chocolate hair sticking to his forehead slightly from the light sweat heâd managed to work up while setting up tents. âI pitched this whole idea just so I could have somewhere to be as loud as I want for a week.â
His words made you laugh, since that very much sounded like something heâd actually do. In the apartment building youâd both managed to nab a unit in, you with another girl who attended your university and him with Yoongi, he wasnât allowed to be very loud at allâ and even then he struggled to keep quiet, if the numerous noise complaints heâd received were anything to go by. You wondered if there was anyone on his floor or the one above and below that hadnât complained about his yelling when he played online games with his friends.
Jungkook thinks he never felt that much pain in his whole entire life. Itâs like his soul is screaming from the inside out, as if someone stabbed him in the stomach, tearing his guts apart.Â
Oh, but thatâs actually what happenedâŚ
How can he still be alive? He swears he was dead seconds ago, losing liters of blood through the cut in his stomach. But heâs very much conscious right now, getting out of the woods he was brutally murdered in. Well, is it still murder if he survived?Â
It doesnât really matter anymore anyway. All he can think about at this moment is how hungry he is. He would devour anything he can eat, and god, why does the person on the other side of the pavement look so⌠edible?Â
He feels the dried blood dripping from his mouth and his hands stained in the same red substance, holding his stomach where, surprisingly, he is no longer bleeding from.The pain is atrocious, but he needs to fucking eat, and he approaches the person faster.Â
The moment they notice him, their eyes grow bigger and they let out a strident scream, but Jungkook gives them no time to leave.
He doesnât know what in the hell possesses him to jump on that poor human, his teeth becoming sharper than they ever were, shredding their neck in pieces, their screams slowly dying down as he eats like a starved animal.
The fresh blood is coating the dried layer on his chin. He feels like an uncontrollable beast, and heâs literally acting like one right now. No one with a right mind would have ever done this⌠but itâs like he isnât a human.Â
He was revived from the dead, he canât possibly be human anymoreâŚÂ
He has an idea as to why this happened.Â
Those girls â that girl band who he seemed so enthralled by â sacrificed him, and for whatâŚ? For fame? For money? Whatever it is, they killed the wrong person because obviously the sacrifice didnât fucking work.Â
Well, at least on Jungkookâs side.Â
He doesnât know where they went â probably out of town, living their best life as if they didnât murder a guy for their crappy albums to get more sales.Â
Heâs cursed now, or whatever the hell is happening to him.Â
He looks down at his victim; itâs a man.Â
As he eats, he suddenly feels nauseous, vomiting what he had so far swallowed. A dark liquid comes out of his mouth, and god, itâs even more painful than the cut in his stomach.Â
He feels disgusted by himself â why isnât he full? Eating felt so good, considering how starved he was, but itâs like he ate something ⌠expired.Â
Argh, whatâs wrong with him⌠He ate someoneâs guts, of course it doesnât taste like a 5 stars meal. Then why did his instinct tell him to do that?Â
Thatâs fucked up.Â
The next few days are horrible for Jungkook.Â
After that night, he doesnât eat anything except for raw chicken and other types of meat that were just not enough to satiate him. It doesn't taste good either.Â
He lays in bed most of the time, having no energy, skipping the gym and his practices, which he usually never does. He gets texts from his friends, but he doesnât bother to check his phone.Â
Itâs on Sunday night that he decides to leave his bed, going to look at himself in the mirror. He has big dark circles under his eyes â not particularly flattering. Heâs still very hungry, but none of the food in his fridge makes him want to eat.Â
Thereâs one thing heâd want, thoughâŚÂ
Itâs when he receives a text from a specific person that he knows what to do.Â
iseul: hey, gguk. wanna study together for tomorrowâs exam?
ᯠᥣđŠ
âHey, man,â Jungkookâs teammate, Doyun, greets him. âHeard about Hana? Thatâs fucked up,â he states, walking beside his friend. âAnd right after Iseul⌠My parents refuse my sister to go out alone now.â
âYeah, I heard,â Jungkook replies, not really caring, but still listening.Â
Itâs not like anybody liked Hana before, he doesnât understand why everybody suddenly cares now that sheâs dead. She needed to die to finally have some importance. How sad.Â
She wasnât that good of a laid either, so really, whatâs the matter? Sure, itâs tragic, but whoâs going to miss her besides her family.Â
âCanât be an animal at this point,â his teammate says under his breath, âDo you wanna know what Iâm thinking?â
Not reallyâŚ
âWhat?â
âIâm thinking itâs gotta be some âJack the Ripperâ kinda guy. You know those freaks who wanna be the modern this or that.â
Kind of offensiveâŚÂ
Jungkook rolls his eyes without Doyun noticing, snickering at his words.
âThe policeâs saying itâs a bear or some shit,â Jungkook explains, reaching his class. âThatâs more believable than your âmodern Jack the Ripperâ.â He mimics quotes with his fingers, stopping in front of the classroom.Â
Doyun still doesnât seem convinced, but itâs not Jungkookâs job to make him less stupid. He can believe what he wants, heâs not an investigator even though he thinks he is.Â
âSee you at practice, alright?â
âYeah, later, man.â
Jungkook has never been very attentive in class. He doesnât care about a lot of things and college is one of them. He wouldnât be here if it wasnât for his parents and their high expectations of him.Â
Heâs looking outside the windows, noticing the grey clouds, heavy rain pouring from the sky. A flash of lighting breaks through the sky, hearing the thunder a second after.Â
Nobody seems attentive either, all interested in the thunderstorm thatâs starting. It might be the strongest theyâve seen in a couple of years.Â
âCrap,â the teacher says as the electricity is cut off, surely because of the thunder.Â
Girls are gasping, some of them whispering to each other about how creepy the situation has become while the professor waits for the power to get back on, wanting to continue teaching his class.Â
Jungkookâs phone lights up as he gets a new notification. He takes a glimpse, reading the text he just received.Â
doyun: practiceâs canceled..Â
Great, Jungkook thinks. He really needed to get some steam off, but it wonât happen today.Â
âSir!â A girl raises her hand, catching the attention of the professor. âAll classes got canceled. Can we leave? Apparently, the power isnât coming back in a few hours.â
âWell, I wonât teach in the darkâŚâÂ
The professor seems quite disappointed, but he lets everyone go back home, seeing no point in staying if he canât teach.Â
While exiting the classroom, Jungkook gets bumped into by someone. He doesnât move much, but the person drops their books on the floor, bending down to pick them up hurriedly.Â
âShit⌠Sorry, I wasnât looking where I was going,â you apologize, standing back up when you have all of your books in your arms.
âItâs fine,â Jungkook mumbles and you give him a straight smile, still feeling apologetic.Â
He recognizes you from highschool, a girl he never talked to, but who he knew the name of. Then, he watches you walking away for a short moment, eyeing your form up and down, memorizing it.Â
ᯠᥣđŠ
Youâre in the cafeteria, sitting with your friends, waiting for about a good 30 minutes now. The storm from yesterday is still ongoing, and the power is very unstable, cutting off every couple of times.
The finals are scheduled for today and the administration told the students to come regardless of the storm, thinking it would stop during the night. So youâre waiting to be sent to the gym where the exams are usually taking place, but seeing the electricity goes off and comes back every second, it isnât the best time to start an exam.Â
People are free to go, itâs college after all, but most of the students are staying in case a decision is made. You know you wouldnât want to skip your exam, thatâs why youâre staying, even though it is starting to get really long.Â
No murder has happened since the beginning of the storm, confirming the police suspicions that it might be a wild animal doing this. A bear wouldnât come out during a thunderstorm, hence why no bodies have been found or anyone going missing.Â
You donât really know what to think about the whole thing. You never really experienced anything of the sort before, only ever seen it in the news, taking place in a far away city. Now, itâs really different to see it in person, seeing people grieving, freaking out.Â
You donât understand how an animal would do such a thing, especially since they arenât known to attack humans, or⌠eat them. But everybody is kind of desperate to find a culprit.Â
As youâre looking through your notes, you notice that youâre missing a piece of information that you absolutely need to know for your test. You would ask your friends, but none of them are in this class with you. Plus, you forgot your book so the only solution would be to go to the library.Â
The place is lit up by candles and oil lamps. The power doesnât seem to have come back here.Â
The librarian isnât even here, so you canât ask her for directions, which would be really useful, but youâll do without. You go to the biology section and start searching for the book you need. It takes you some time, carefully looking through the shelves until you notice an older edition of the book. You hope what you need is in there.
You start flipping the pages to the right chapter, but you jump out of surprise and drop the book to the floor at the sound of someone elseâs voice.Â
âArenât you supposed to attend your exam?â
Itâs the guy you bumped into yesterday; Jungkook.Â
Whatâs weird is that you didnât at all hear him, you could have swore you were alone in the library. Guess heâs a really quiet walker, hence why you didnât even see him coming out of the classroom the day before.Â
âUh, y-yeah,â you stammer out, furrowing your brows. You bend down to pick up the book, his eyes following your movements closely. âJust had to come here for this,â you say and show the object in question in your hand. âWhat about you?â
He leans on the shelves beside him.Â
âDidnât feel like wasting my time back there,â he explains and you nod, not really sure what he wants exactly⌠Itâs not like youâre friends or anything.
You canât see much of him with the low lighting in the library, but you still catch on the way heâs looking at you intently. It makes you slightly uncomfortable, considering heâs towering over you with all his height. And Jungkook is very tall compared to you.Â
âIs- Is there something else you wanted to ask meâŚ?â You manage to let out, voice a bit shaky and uneasy.Â
âAre you scared?â he asks casually.
He steps closer to you, and you donât understand why you donât step back. Itâs like you donât dare.
âWhat?â
âThe storm. Pretty intense, right?â
Is he really interested to know if youâre scared of storms or is he playing with you? Why would he even play with you in the first place, thatâs what you wonder.Â
His behaviour really confuses you. Itâs true that you donât know him, but he isnât the type of guy to just⌠creep girls out. Maybe itâs not his intention though?
âOh, yeah⌠Itâs- itâs nothing I've ever seen before,â you confess in a weak voice.Â
âMe neither,â Jungkook replies.Â
You hold the book against you tighter like itâs some sort of protection, or just as emotional support. You donât know whatâs up with him, but it has you feeling some type of wayâŚÂ
You feel the knot in your stomach getting tighter as he gets even closer, trapping you between him and the bookshelves.Â
Yes, youâre scared, but not of the storm⌠of him.
And⌠thereâs a part of you that likes it â likes the attention he gives you, the way his dark eyes look at your body. His gaze makes you think of a carnivore, a predator.Â
Youâre the food he was looking for.Â
âItâs really loud, isnât it?â he observes. âI wonder⌠if you had to scream, would anybody hear you?â
That startles you right away.Â
âJungkook-â Saying his name seems to catch his attention, his eyes looking directly into yours. âStop it.â
He doesnât break eye contact, and youâre destabilized by how long he can hold your gaze, a shiver running up your spine, making the hair on your arms stand up.Â
Itâs only to whisper in your ear that his eyes leave yours.Â
âStop what exactly?â
His hot breath hits the side of your neck, hearing your heart pounding in your chest, the knot in your stomach becoming heavier and heavier. Your hands clasp around your book, holding onto it for dear life as you gulp down the excess of saliva in your mouth.Â
You scrunch your eyes shut when you feel his hands on your hips, fingers sneaking under the hem of your top. Your core heats up, blood rushing to your cheeks⌠and clitoris.Â
âWhat do you want?â You breathe out, opening your eyes when Jungkook faces you again.Â
He takes the book from you, putting it back onto the shelves, not caring if itâs the wrong placement.Â
âJust a little bit of fun,â he answers, âwouldnât you like that, hm?â He slips his index finger under the band of your skirt, pulling you closer to him, his lips only centimetres away from yours. âI know girls like you are too shy to ask for it⌠So Iâm making the first move.âÂ
âNo, I-â You begin, but donât have the time to finish your sentence.Â
âItâs fine, Iâm gonna take the lead. You donât have to worry about anything, pretty,â he tells you, tilting his head and pressing a light kiss to your lips. Surprisingly, you reciprocate it. He pulls his hand away from your skirt, enveloping it around your throat, not putting any pressure yet. âI knew youâd be into it, youâre a little freak, arenât you?âÂ
You donât know what to answer. Is there even anything you can say back to him? Whatâs the point of lying when he has you trapped between his large body and the bookshelves, his tattooed fingers gripping your neck, his lips brushing over your face.Â
But would that be really a lie saying heâs wrong about you? He doesnât know youâŚ
He kisses you again, this time sloppier, his tongue dominating yours easily. He nudges your legs open with his knee, his other hand swiftly diving under the hem of your skirt, groping your flesh in a lewd way that keeps you out of breath â apart from the fact that his tongue is currently exploring your mouth.Â
He graces the bump of your pussy covered by your panties with his fingers, making your knees buckle at the unexpected contact. He rubs the pad of his middle finger over your clit, a whine escaping your throat, muffled by his mouth on yours. The moment is brief until he slips his hand into your underwear.Â
You try to make him stop by grabbing his wrist, pulling away from his lips to pathetically whisper a âp-pleaseâ that makes him chuckle.Â
âAlready begging for me, sweetheart?â He softly laughs, smirking at you. âExcited by the idea of a guyâs fingers in your little cunt instead of yours? Is that it?â
You frown because that wasnât the reason why you begged him, but now that he said this⌠your thoughts are going into a completely different way. Whatâs wrong with you?
âDo you wanna know how it feels, baby? How itâs like to have your pussy stuffed by someone elseâs fingersâŚâÂ
Heâs not waiting for an answer as he starts stroking your bud of nerves in slow circular motions, applying some pressure to really make you feel it. You let out another whine, this time of pleasure.Â
Jungkook then shifts down to your entrance, circling it with a lot of delicacy, but this gentleness of his doesnât go on for long as he pushes a finger into you. You bite down on your bottom lip â the size of his fingers are in no comparison to yours. Your eyes swell up in water, little cries escaping your mouth when he adds a second digit.Â
âI know, I know,â he whispers, âmust be uncomfortable, hm?â You nod your head, confirming his words. âItâll feel good soon, I promise. Youâre used to the feel of your tiny fingers, itâs normalâŚâ
When he says this, you have a hard time believing him. How could it feel good when you werenât at all prepared for this â when itâs not what you wanted.Â
He begins to move his fingers inside of you, slow and long strokes at first, circling your clit with his thumb at the same time. He curls his fingers, making a little hook, patting your sweet spot. The intrusion is uncomfortable, but it progressively gets so much more pleasurable as he thrusts into you at a regular pace.Â
Tears are still falling down from your eyes, eyelashes wet and sticky, but they arenât the result of your painâŚÂ
âYouâre pretty when you cry,â Jungkook murmurs beside your ear, butterflies in your stomach when he tells you this.Â
He unwraps his hand from your throat to instead grab your thigh, placing your leg around his hip. You now feel his fingers way deeper inside of you, gently and deliciously stimulating your g-spot. You dare to look down where his left hand is operating between your thighs, sliding in until heâs knuckles deep into your pussy. This makes you breathless, head rolling back on your shoulders and hitting the shelves behind you.Â
âOh, my god-!â You exclaim when Jungkookâs ministrations bring you so close to your orgasm. Your legs are twitching, your body warning you of your approaching high.
Youâd probably be more aware of his hard cock trapped in his baggy jeans, but you literally cannot focus on anything else other than Jungkook fingering you, hitting your sensitive spot each time he thrusts in.Â
âThatâs it, baby,â he encourages, moving faster. âYou feel it? Huh?â He asks and you croak out a weak âyesâ. âTell me how it feels.â
You hate his questions â you hate them so much. He knows how you feel, but he wants you to say it, he wants you to say that you enjoy it, and⌠your body really does.Â
âG-Good.â
âYeah?â he breathes out, fucking your cunt with his fingers, enthralled by the little moans you let out.
âYes,â you confirm, closing your eyes and nodding your head. âFuck!â You curse out when you finally reach your high, grasping onto his forearm as you ride out your orgasm, your entire body shaking.Â
Jungkook helps you by slowly rubbing your puffy clit in circles, telling you more dirty words in your ear, all said in the sweetest voice, as if what heâs doing can be described as anything sweet.Â
âGood girl,â he praises, âsee, I told you itâd feel great.â
He still has his head in the crook of your neck, and you frown at the feeling of sharp teeth against your skin. Itâs barely there, just brushing over it, as if hesitating to act⌠but Jungkook retrieves back, looking into your reddened eyes.Â
He could stop there, but he wonât â though he got what he wanted, he needs moreâŚÂ
He pulls his hand out of your panties, fingers glistening in your arousal. âOpen wide for me, baby,â he instructs.Â
You glance at his hand, a little repulsed. Youâve never thought about tasting yourself and itâs surely nothing youâd have ever done⌠if not for Jungkook.Â
You then reluctantly open your mouth and he enters his wet fingers in.Â
âSuck,â he adds on, expecting you to follow his orders, and you do without a second thought.Â
He stares down at you while you lick his fingers clean and he slides them a bit deeper, pushing down on your tongue. The taste of yourself isnât what you thought itâd be⌠It doesnât taste much, in fact.Â
He removes his fingers from your mouth only to put them in his own after. âAs sweet as you are,â he grins. âTurn around.â
You hesitate for a second, looking at him credulously, before doing what he asked you to do on trembling legs.Â
âAre youâŚ?â You say under your breath, looking over your shoulder and seeing Jungkook pulling the zipper of his pants down.Â
âGoing to put my cock into you?â he finishes your question for you. âYeah, I am.â
You stop breathing at his answer, sensing his deft fingers touching your thighs and hips, going under your skirt to drag your panties down.Â
He soon gets his cock out of his briefs, pumping himself a couple of times before aligning his head with your dripping wet entrance. His tattooed hand keeps your skirt crumpled up over your ass, laying the other one on your hip.Â
âCareful, sweetheart,â he says softly beside your ear, âbecause this might sting a little bit more than two fingers.â He swipes the head of his cock through your sticky folds and all you can do is moan pathetically at the feeling, lewd, wet noises echoing in the big library.Â
You canât see his length even with the way you contort your head to look over your shoulder, but youâre still able to see his chest and hips moving as he pushes his cock into your pussy. Though you have no idea what he looks like, the painful feeling of your cunt getting stretched out to his size tells you heâs really big.Â
And he was right. This hurts way more than his fingers, the two feelings are not comparable at all.Â
âJungkook-,â you cry out, holding the shelves in front of you till thereâs no more blood in your knuckles.Â
He hears you, loving the sounds youâre making because of him and the way you say his name with eyes full of tears. When he bottoms out inside of you, his pelvis flushed against your ass, he lets out a low grunt and throws his head back, closing his eyes to savour the pleasure entirely.Â
You involuntarily clench around him, making him tighten his grip on your hip. He then starts thrusting into you, his cock sliding in and out of your pussy at a slow but harsh pace. Each time he bottoms out, Jungkook makes sure the skin of his thighs slap against your ass, the sounds almost as loud as your little moans and whimpers.Â
But the storm is so intense and noisy that heâs pretty sure nobody else in the library could hear you â if there was anyone here apart from the two of you anyway.Â
Your wetness allows him to fuck his cock into your pussy back and forth, welcoming him so perfectly without any restriction. Itâs almost impossible for him to not hit your sweet spot, and he reaches so much deeper when he lifts up your thigh with the hand that was previously placed on your hip.Â
You donât know how long you can stay in this position, especially when Jungkookâs drilling his hard cock into you like nothing else matters. Itâs like he needs it from you, and as the pleasure only builds up in you, you start thinking you need it desperately, too.Â
Youâre breathing heavily, and so is he, feeling his hot breath on your neck when he tilts his head down closer to yours. You can clearly hear his breathing now as well as his deep grunts that leave his mouth every time your walls close tightly around his girth, literally sucking him in.Â
âShit,â he curses out as he pushes lightly on your back, deepening the arch of it so your ass is flushed against his pelvis. âHow could I have ever passed over you⌠Youâre so- fuck,â Jungkook chokes out, not finishing his sentence, but you have a guess on what he wanted to say.Â
He then kisses your neck pretty messily, but it only raises the temperature of your body, your skin boiling hot under his soft lips. He leaves a wet trail behind, going up to your ear, down to your shoulder.Â
Telling him to stop isnât even possible anymore, it wouldnât make any sense⌠would be absolutely stupid when youâre so close to your second orgasm.Â
As he thrusts into you, his balls smack your pussy, and the sounds are just too vulgar, but itâs honestly arousing you so much. Jungkook lets go of your thigh to take a hold of your jaw, turning it around so he can look at your face.Â
Your mouth is ajar to let out big puffs of air, and itâs the same for him, his breathing being irregular and heavy. He didnât think he would ever need something that badly, which is making you his, surprisingly enough.Â
Making you his in whatever way possible; whether itâs by fucking you or eating you â or both. Jungkook doesnât care, he just wants it.Â
It doesnât take long for your second orgasm to pass through you, arms and legs shaking as the knot at the pit of your stomach snaps. Jungkook feels it very clearly, your walls hugging his cock terribly tightly, bringing him closer to his own orgasm as well.
âHoly fuck,â he hisses, his hip thrusts accelerating, literally burying his cock in your cunt until he slips out. He rapidly strokes himself and cums on your ass, strings of white cum falling on you. âOh, godâŚâ
He stays in this position for a couple of seconds, catching his breath. He then slightly backs away, making sure to keep your skirt crumpled up over your butt, looking at the mess he made of you.Â
Suddenly, you both catch on the voices entering the library, making you rush to dress up and clean yourselves â especially you.Â
ᯠᥣđŠ
Youâre in your bedroom, studying and writing down on your notebook while lying down on your bed. Itâs relatively quiet in your house, hearing the TV downstairs playing and the ceiling fan above your head running.Â
The ringtone of your cellphone breaks the silence, buzzing on top of your bedsheets. Itâs a number that you donât recognize, but the first digitals show you that itâs a number from your area. So you pick it up.Â
âHello?âÂ
âHey, pretty.â
âUh, who is this?â You ask the person on the other side of the line because you have no idea who would call you like this. They must know you.
âTake a guess,â they say, and their tone is oddly a little flirty.Â
You frown, starting to remember where you heard this voice for the last time⌠And in which situation exactly.Â
â... Jungkook?âÂ
He laughs at that and you can imagine the cheeky smile heâs sporting right now.Â
âYou got it,â he replies, âsee, I knew youâd remember me.âÂ
You immediately feel uneasy despite the fact youâre just talking through the phone, but things have happened since your encounter with Jungkook.
Things such as more dead girls, all brutally murdered by this âanimalâ.Â
You suspected nothing until you noticed how tired looking Jungkook was a day or two after what happened in the library. Normally, you wouldnât have looked at him, but you literally couldnât get him out of your head after how intimate the both of you had been together.Â
Each time he was in the same hallway as you, youâd give him a glance and nothing more as you were too shy to talk to him or even look at him for too long.Â
But sometimes you dared to watch him a little longer when he didnât know you were in the same room as him.Â
And you saw the dark circles, the bad attitude he had with his friends, and the disdain look he seemed to give to everybody. You also saw him get in his car with a girl. You were jealous for a second, but you felt totally different the next day when that same girl went missing and that Jungkook seemed to be doing fine again.Â
At first, it was just silly thoughts, but it was too strong of a coincidence, you couldnât think about anything else.Â
âYeahâŚâ You say back, shoulders tense as you sit up on your bed. âHow did you get my number?âÂ
âAsked Doyun for it,â he simply explains. âYou did a project back in highschool together. Remember?â
You do remember. You were so stressed out about it. Paired with a popular jock? You believed the teacher was against you, but it turned out that Doyun was way nicer than you thought.
âLuckily, you didnât change numbers.â
Lucky for who?
âRight,â you huff out, looking through your window, a shiver passing through you at the thought of Jungkook hiding somewhere.
âWhatâre you doing?â he asks.
âUhm, just studying⌠Why?âÂ
âWanna go out with me?â Jungkook proposes after a few seconds of silence.Â
You look through your window again. Itâs dark outside. This would be such a bad ideaâŚÂ
âItâs 9 p.m. on a Thursday night,â you begin, sounding way too bitchy for his liking, âwhere would we go? And why would I even go out with youâŚâ
âThe parkâs always open,â he adds.
âWhat-â
âRelax. Nothing bad gonna happen, alright?" his voice resonates through the phone, hearing a slight laugh after. "I miss you, that's all."
You bite down on your lip, shaking your head to get all of your stupid thoughts away. As much as you hate to admit it, you love hearing that from Jungkook. Thatâs all you wanted him to say since he left you in the library⌠tell you he needs you as much as you need him.Â
But this isnât the time for that â there wonât ever be another time anyway.Â
You respond nothing and so he takes it as a yes. âIâll come pick you up in 10 minutes. Put something pretty on,â he chuckles, hanging up.Â
ᯠᥣđŠ
The park isnât an open space with benches and a fountain. Itâs basically the woods where you go for hiking. There are paths you can follow that will all lead you to the same place at the end.Â
You could have thought of something smarter, or less dangerous, but you didnât have any time. Jungkook showed up at your entrance precisely 10 minutes after he hung up and you werenât exactly ready to see him just yet.Â
You had to get in his car anyway, the whole ride being quiet until you arrived at your destination. Your stomach churned up the moment you entered the woods, Jungkook behind you.Â
Your heart is still beating super fast right now, whether itâs because youâre absolutely scared or because Jungkook is kissing you feverishly, it doesnât matter. You canât do this, and you donât know how it might end for you if you let yourself be distracted by him.Â
âJungkook,â you manage to say between kisses. You push harder on his chest, making him stop from putting his tongue in your mouth. âWe need to talk,â you say firmly.Â
âAbout what?â he chuckles, diving back down to the crook of your neck where he plants wet kisses, his hand sneaking up under your dress while the other holds your hip.Â
You squirm, fighting hard to not let yourself give in to his touch.Â
âI saw⌠I saw Jia and you getting into your car the other day,â you confess and he backs away from your neck when he hears that, looking intently at your face.Â
âAnd? You were jealous, is that it?â He questions, lifting one eyebrow.Â
âNo! I mean-,â you answer right after, thinking about what to say and how to say it. âShe went missing the day after you saw her, and-â
Jungkook gets visibly annoyed, trapping his bottom lip between his teeth. He lets go of you, still looking at you, but not with lustful eyes anymore.Â
âWhat? What are you trying to say, huh?â He huffs out. âThat I killed her? Fucking crazy.â
You feel bad. Is he really guilty?
He has to be. You know he is.Â
âBack in the library,â you begin to say, âwere you⌠did you intend to kill me?â You eventually say it all, breath caught in your throat as you watch Jungkook registering your words.Â
He sighs, âwhy would it matter?â You frown at that, about to respond, but he steps closer to you, trapping you between him and the tree again. âJust let me take care of you, gonna make you feel good, babyâŚâÂ
He slips his hands under your dress so rapidly that you donât have any time to react, immediately overwhelmed by his groping and his lips all over you.Â
But you get back your senses, using all your force to push him away. You succeed to have a safe distance between the two of you.
âSo youâre admitting it!? You wanted to- to do the same thing to me!â
âNo,â he disagrees, his voice harsh, sounding quite annoyed. âI just wanted- Fuck!â he exclaims angrily, but itâs like he doesnât know what to say.Â
âYou could have everybody you wanted, Jungkook,â you state, looking him into the eyes, âwhy me?â
He looks back at you and you wonder how you couldnât have seen it before⌠The evil.Â
âWhy not? Youâre hot, kinda a stuck-up, but I had to try it, you know,â he chuckles. âFor a nerdy girl, you sure know how to take dick.â
It angers you to a pointâŚÂ
âFuck you!â
And without thinking twice, you reach down to pick up the pocket knife you hid in your boot before.Â
You open it and you rush toward Jungkook, stabbing him in his lower stomach. You retrieve the knife a bit too hastily, resulting in you dropping it and falling down on your butt to the ground.Â
Jungkook also falls down, holding onto his stomach, red blood dripping out of his cut onto his hands. He yells out many curses, sucking air through his teeth to appease the pain as much as he can.Â
You watch him, startled and out of breath, eventually turning around and searching for your knife. When you find it, you get back up and to Jungkook, but he isnât there anymore.
He has completely disappeared.Â
For years, conspiracists have done their best to predict the end of the world. However, no one could've guessed that this is how it would happen. There were no signs. No warnings at all. Not a single soul had time to prepare for the beginning of the end.
It seemed like by the snap of a finger, everything that you've ever known was suddenly gone and you weren't sure how much more you could take of it. Waiting it out just wasn't an option and you were right on the edge of giving up. You had given up. That is until you heard him. Another lost soul, just trying to find his way back home. You saved his life, and now he was hell-bent on saving yours.
It was kind of ironic. You'd given up on yourself and then a complete stranger refused to give up on you. But what happens when that one complete stranger turns into seven? What happens when you dedicate your life to making sure that they get their "happy ending"?
We've all hoped that when our time inevitably comes that we'd be able to spend it peacefully with our loved ones. However, that turned out to be a luxury that most could not afford. You thought that maybe you'd all find it within each other...that maybe despite the world burning in flames, you'd all be at peace when it turned to ash.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There was a sort of lingering darkness within you ever since the news broke out. Most would say that it was normal to feel hopeless in a situation like this, but it wasnât just hopelessness that you were feeling. It was more so a lack of motivation to keep fighting. You were already struggling before and this just seemed like the icing on the cake for you. The final confirmation that youâd been searching for that maybe, just maybe, this world wasnât worth living in.
Your thoughts continuously wandered and no matter how many times you tried to reason, you always found yourself thinking about what you were doing when the news broke out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Youâd been standing in the kitchen, making your dinner while the news played in the background. It wasnât like you were really paying attention to what the anchor was saying, it just kind of worked as a background noise.
Once you were done cooking and fixing yourself a plate, you went to your living room to find some random movie on Netflix to watch as you ate. You were just about to change the channel when the woman on the screen said something that stopped you dead in your tracks. It was then that you were suddenly interested in the news.
âScientists have confirmed that the dead are coming back to life. The cause is unknown, but they are urging everyone to stay inside and lock your doors. Do not make any unnecessary trips or attempt to travel.â She stated in a shaky tone.
âWhat the fuck?â You said to yourself as you sat your food down and began cycling through channels.
Every station seemed to be repeating the exact same message. The usual programs had been stalled. This was a public service announcement, and not one of those dumb little weather warnings that everyone ignores. No, this was legit. You continued clicking through before settling on one that seemed to be giving new information.
âScientists are warning that these beings are extremely dangerous and have exhibited extreme levels of aggressive behavior. It is important to avoid any contact with them at all costs to prevent further infections. If you or someone you know has been bitten or scratched by these beings at all, please isolate yourself. Due to increased traffic, emergency services are limited.ââ
You leaned forward as the man on the screen paused and held his earpiece. His face dropped and his eyes grew wide as he began looking around desperately, as if he was searching for confirmation. He turned his attention back to the screen and gulped deeply as he began speaking again.
âWe have just been given new information. Emergency services are no longer available at this time. Please be advised that if you or anyone you know has been bitten or scratched, they need to be euthanized. Attack the brain, itâs the only way to stop them. We are alone. God help us all.â He said through a trembling voice as tears began to fall from his eyes.
Just as you were waiting for more information, the program shut off. The only sound playing is static and there are no anchors speaking. The only thing visible is a blue screen with the words âPLEASE STANDBYâ in the middle.
What the fuck is happening? You thought as you returned to clicking through channels, each of them saying the exact same thing. You quickly stood up and walked through your apartment, verifying that every door and window was locked and that all of the curtains and blinds were closed. Once you finished your walk-through, you returned to the living room to grab your phone and call your parents.
It barely got through the first ring before your mother picked up, sounding completely frantic over the phone.
âY/N! Oh my god, honey! Are you ok?â She spoke, sounding as if she was crying.
You werenât sure if the same thing was happening back home when you decided to call, but your motherâs reaction confirmed that this was a worldwide phenomenon. Your parents lived in the United States, but you had moved to Seoul two years ago for college. You only ever went home for holidays, and itâd been months since you last saw them.
âMom, Iâm fine. Whatâs happening?â
âWe donât know. We were driving home from the store and got stuck in traffic. We didnât think anything of it but then we heard screaming. There was a woman walking down the street and she was covered in blood. Some people got out of their cars to check on her andâ âshe spoke through tears before pausing. You could hear your father in the background trying to comfort her.
âAnd what, mom? What happened?â You urged, feeling the anxiety raising as you listened to the cries on the other end of the phone.
âShe attacked him, Y/N. She knocked him down and she looked like she was eating him.â She finished.
You felt your legs give out on you. Luckily, you landed on your couch. You stared at the tv, still stuck on that blue screen. You tried to make sense of it all, but to no avail. You stayed on the phone with your parents for a bit longer. Going through each of the warnings that was on the news and creating a checklist of dos and donâts with each other. You made a schedule to check in with each other every night, making sure everyone was still ok.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now here you were three weeks later. Lying on your bed, thinking about how quickly everything had changed. You tried to be as conservative as you could be with your supplies, but they could only last you for so long and now you were nearing the end. You barely had food or water at this point, and it wasnât like you could just go to the store for more. If you did, youâd risk facing those things. You havenât heard from your parents in a week, unsure if theyâre even alive at this point. Hell, youâre unsure if anyone you know is alive at this point.
For days you heard screaming from all around you, and like a snap of a finger, it all stopped. The world around you went quiet, and you felt as if you couldnât take it anymore. If everyone around you is dead, then whatâs the point in being alive?
Thatâs why you found yourself in the position that youâre now in. Staring at the ceiling with a small handgun lying on your chest. Youâd asked yourself what the best way would be to do it. You knew that you needed to destroy your brain if you didnât want to risk becoming one of those things, but what if you missed? You blinked slowly as you tried to think it through, snapping out of it as you heard what sounded like yelling.
You slowly got out of bed and walked over to your window, peaking through the curtains. Thatâs when you saw a man running clumsily down the road, a group of those creatures chasing him. He seemed as if he could get away. Thatâs if heâd stop turning around to look at them. Your breath caught in your lungs as you watched one of the things grab him by his shirt, knocking him to the ground and landing on top of him.
You battled with your thoughts as you watched the man frantically hold back the creature. You want to help him but what if heâs dangerous? What if he brings more of those things with him? You were taken from your thoughts as you watched the other creatures get closer to him.
âFuck it.â You said to yourself, quickly opening the window and firing a shot at the creature on top of him, hitting it right in the head. The man froze for a moment before turning his attention to the sound of the shot, his eyes finally meeting yours.
âUp here, quickly!â You yelled as he scrambled to get up and began sprinting towards your building. You rushed out of the front door to meet him, firing more shots at the creatures following behind him as he beelined into your apartment. You quickly followed, slamming the door behind you and locking it.
You rested your head against the wood as you tried to control your breathing. It wasnât until you heard the man speak that you truly processed what had just happened.
âOh fuck!â He panted. You slowly turned to face him. He was laying on the floor, clutching at his stomach as he attempted to catch his breath.
âWho are you?â You asked sternly, causing the man to sit up to face you. Your eyes scanned over his body, searching for any sign that heâd been injured by the creatures. You met his eyes once again when you realized that he wasnât covered in blood at all, just dirt.
âMy name is Hoseok. Whatâs your name?â He asked as he stood up. He was tall and slender. His hair was a mess and he looked like he hadnât slept in days. It was in that moment when you realized that you probably didnât look much better.
âMy name is Y/N.â You said hesitantly.
âWell, Y/N. I cannot thank you enough for saving me. Those things, theyâd been chasing me for a while. I thought I was a goner.â He said through a forced laugh.
âWhat were you doing out there?â
âI was trying to find my friends; we went out to look for supplies, but we got split up after a group of zombies started chasing us.â He said as he began looking around your apartment.
âZombies?â You questioned. Sure, it was obvious that the zombie apocalypse was happening, but you hadnât brought it upon yourself to actually refer to them as zombies. The thought of it all made you feel as if you were living in some sort of bad horror movie.
âYeah, I mean, what else would you call those things?â
âI donât know, I just never considered calling them that.â You shrugged.
You two fell into an awkward silence, unsure of what to do now that you were both stuck in a room with a complete stranger. You looked down at your hands and realized that youâd still been holding onto the gun.
âWould you like water or something?â You offered in an attempt to break the tension.
âYeah, thatâd be nice.â He smiled brightly, seeming relieved that you'd asked him first.
âI donât have much left, but Iâll spare what I can. You can sit down if youâd like.â You told him, motioning towards the couch.
You began searching through your cabinets for something to give Hoseok before settling on a protein bar. You filled a cup with water and grabbed the bar before meeting him on the couch. You sat the items on the coffee table in front of you and slid them over to him.
âThank you so much.â He said with a small bow before chugging the water.
âSo, you said that you were out with your friends. How many are there?â You couldnât help the curiosity. You had convinced yourself that you were the only one left alive in your city and the fact that there are others out there makes you question your previous beliefs.
âWeâre a group of seven. Weâve been staying in an older house we found. It seemed like it was empty, so we just assumed that the owners mustâve been away when all of this happened.â He shrugged.
You fell silent once again, unsure on how to respond. This is the first time youâve spoken to another person since your last phone call with your parents. It didnât seem like that long, but you couldnât stop the feeling of loneliness. Any other time, you wouldâve been fine with a lack of human interaction but something about the world seemingly ending made those connections feel so much more meaningful and you missed it.
âHey, why donât you come with me? We can go back to the house. Iâm sure that the boys have made it there already.â He said as he leaned down to meet your gaze.
You couldnât stop the tears from forming as you saw the gentle look in his eyes. You quickly embraced him, wrapping your arms around his neck. He seemed taken aback at first but soon enough returned the favor, allowing his hands to rest on your back.
âThank you, Hoseok.â You whispered, still holding on to him.
âYou saved my life, the least I could do is save yours.â He said softly. It was almost as if he knew.
You pulled away slowly, letting out a pitiful laugh as you began wiping your tears with your sleeve.
âI guess I should probably pack. When do you want to leave?â
âAs soon as possible, I donât want the boys to worry too much.â He said, causing you to nod before standing up to go gather your things.
You made your way to your room and grabbed a backpack before throwing a few items of clothing in it along with some other essentials, including your phone. You decided to change your clothes as well. Settling on a pair of jeans, a tank top, a hoodie, and some boots. Once you were changed, you tied your hair up into a ponytail and made your way back to the living room.
âIâm ready, Hoseok.â You said, grabbing his attention.
âAlright, letâs go. Also, you can call me Hobi.â He smiled as he began making his way to the door.
âI brought this. I wasnât sure if you preferred a knife or a gun.â You said, holding your hand out to show him the pocketknife you were holding.
âEh, Iâll let you keep the gun. You seem to know how to handle it.â He said as he grabbed the knife, causing you to nod. âOk, weâll need to move as quickly and quietly as possible. The house isnât too far away.â He stated before peeking through the door.
The trip to the house that Hobi and his friends were staying at went surprisingly smoothly compared to the predicament he was facing when you first saw him. You struggled a bit with the way the city now looked. The streets were full of abandoned cars, some of them covered in blood. Various windows were shattered, and doors of surrounding buildings were all open with red trails leading inside. You gagged a bit at the smell. Whenever you watched crime shows, you always heard people talk about how the smell of a rotting corpse was somewhat indescribable, but also unlike anything else, and they were right. You abstained from looking at any of the bodies surrounding you. The fear of potentially recognizing one of them was enough to make you vomit, but you did your best to push it down.
When Hobi told you that the house wasnât too far away, you didnât take into account that you two would be walking and doing your best not to alert anything around you. You assumed itâd take 10 minutes at the most, but an hour later you finally made it.
âHere it is.â Hobi stated as he led you inside, locking the door behind him.
The house was large and oddly clean. You understood now what he meant when he said that he and his friends had assumed that the owners were gone when all hell broke loose. You were taken from your thoughts when you heard footsteps trailing quickly down the hallway.
âHobi?â A voice called out, causing you to turn your attention towards the sound.
There, another man stood with five others following behind him. He looked somewhat distressed, but there was also a sense of relief when he realized his friend was ok.
âHoly fuck, we thought you were dead.â He said as he pulled Hobi into a hug. The others began greeting him and doing the same.
âIâm ok. Actually, I probably wouldâve been dead if it wasnât for my friend here.â Hobi turned to face you, causing the others to look in your direction.
âWho is this?â One man spoke. His hair was dark and tied back into a half-up ponytail. He was muscular, with a sleeve of tattoos covering one of his arms.
âThis is Y/N. She saved my life. I wouldnât have made it back without her.â He said as he grabbed your hand, gently pulling you forward to face everyone.
âHi.â You said shyly as you gave a small wave.
âHi, Y/N. Iâm Namjoon.â Another man spoke, offering a gentle smile as he sensed your nervousness. âThis is Jin, Yoongi, Taehyung, Jimin, and Jungkook.â He continued, pointing to each of the men.
âItâs nice to meet you, Y/N!â Jimin said brightly causing you to smile.
âItâs nice to meet you all.â
âThereâs two of us in each room. Yoongi is by himself so you two can share a room.â Hobi said, causing you to look up at him worriedly.
Yoongi didnât seem mean per se, just not very happy with your unexpected company. Everyone else greeted you with warm smiles, attempting to be as welcoming as possible, but Yoongi eyed you up and down in a suspicious manner.
âDonât worry, thereâs two twin beds in there so you wonât have to sleep with him.â Hobi said through a laugh.
âYoongi Hyung, could you show Y/N where your room is?â Namjoon said, turning to face Yoongi.
He didnât say anything, just began making his way up the stairs as if he assumed youâd be following, which you did. As he walked into the bedroom, you stood in the doorway awkwardly.
âThis oneâs mine. You can take the other.â He spoke lowly. This was the first time you heard his voice. Slightly taken aback by how deep it was. He turned to face you after you didnât respond. A look of annoyance on his face.
âI can see if Hobi is willing to switch rooms if youâre uncomfortable.â He spoke.
âNo, Iâm fine with the arrangements. I donât want to inconvenience anyone.â You said as you set your bag down on the bed.
âYou already have.â He muttered as he walked out. You were sure that he didnât intend for you to hear it, but it still lingered in your mind regardless.
The night was a bit awkward. For the most part, everyone did their best to make you feel comfortable. They insisted that you join them for dinner, despite you saying that you werenât that hungry, and youâd be fine. They even offered you some of the filtered water designated for hygienic purposes. You were grateful to finally not be alone, but you couldnât shake Yoongiâs words out of your mind. Sure, they were definitely doing better than youâd been when it came to supplies, but their conditions werenât ideal either. They remained hospitable, nonetheless.
The night rolled around quickly, and soon enough everyone began to make their way to their designated rooms. Yoongi laid in his bed silently, as he read his book. You wanted to speak to him, anything to break the awkwardness that engulfed the room, but you couldnât find it within yourself to do so. Turning to face the wall opposite of Yoongiâs bed, you drifted off to sleep, deciding that youâd give him as much space as possible.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You woke up to the sun shining through the sheer curtains. Rubbing your eyes and letting out a deep yawn, you sat up and looked around the room. Yoongiâs bed was empty, sheets folded neatly with the book he read the previous night laying on top of his pillow.
You decided to change your clothes back to the ones you wore yesterday, minus the hoodie and went to go freshen up a bit before heading downstairs.
You stopped at the end as you heard what sounded like Yoongi speaking. You werenât really one to eavesdrop but considering the fact that you were now sleeping under the same roof as a group of men you just met, you couldnât help but listen.
âNamjoon, please! Weâre already struggling enough as it is. What are we supposed to do when thereâs nothing left?â Yoongi spoke. Although he seemed upset, his voice remained soft.
âWeâre not throwing her out, Yoongi. I understand your concerns. I have them too, but itâd be wrong to just leave her to fend for herself.â Namjoon refuted.
âOh, come on! She seems to have been doing fine for herself before.â Yoongi stated with a hint of sourness in his tone.
âWill both of you just shut up?â A voice that you knew belonged to Hobi objected. âLook, I know that weâre struggling, but she was too. That didnât stop her from taking me in and offering me what little she had left. We are not going to kick her out. Besides, I made her a promise.â He continued.
A promise? You thought. Sure, everything from the night prior was a bit fuzzy but you didnât recall him openly committing a promise to you. Perhaps it was one that he kept to himself. An unspoken promise that he made without your knowledge.
âWhat do you mean you made her a promise?â Another deep voice spoke, seeming as if it belonged to Taehyung.
It was then that you began wondering if they were having some conference in regards of what to do with you. Did the rest of the boys feel the same as Yoongi? They were all so kind to you that the question of whether or not they minded you being around hadn't even crossed your mind.
âShe saved my life, and I promised that I would save hers.â Hobi said through a stern tone. He was so sweet to you and hearing how serious he was about this had taken you a bit by surprise.
Their voices began fading in and out as they appeared to be speaking over each other, and you seemingly had no clue whether to walk away or to stay where you were. You jumped a bit as you felt a hand on your shoulder.
âY/N-ah, good morning!â You were greeted by Jimin who was sporting a bright smile. You cringed lightly at the knowledge that your cover may now be blown.
âHi, Jimin.â You said softly.
âC'mon, letâs go get some breakfast.â He said in a cheery tone as he threw his arm over your shoulder and led you into the dining room where the previous debate was going on.
As you two walked in, you felt your face heat up. The four men were completely silent, all staring directly at you. It was obvious in that moment, that they knew you had been listening to their conversation. Your eyes naturally shifted towards the direction of Yoongi. He sat at the dining table across from Taehyung, eyes wide as he met your own.
âWhy do you all look like youâve seen a ghost?â Jimin jokingly asked, completely unaware of the building tension in the room.
âNo reason at all. Howâd you sleep, Y/N?â Hobi asked sweetly as he made his way over to you, resting his hands on your shoulders as if he was trying to create a barrier between you and the other three he was speaking with.
You looked up at him, the anxiety building in your chest. His eyes werenât as bright as theyâd previously been, yet he still looked at you as softly as he had before. His expression was one of compassion as if, without words, he was telling you not to worry about a thing. Feeling yourself relax a bit in his hold, you offered a weak smile before speaking.
âI slept fine, Hobi.â
Almost like clockwork, Jin and Jungkook made their way into the kitchen as well. Also seeming completely oblivious to the tension in the room.
âIâm starving!â Jungkook groaned as he made his way to the dining table.
âMe too, letâs eat.â Namjoon said with a clap.
During breakfast, everyone fell into their own conversations. No one dared to speak about what happened earlier. You sat in the middle, between Hobi and Jimin, who were laughing about old memories they had before the world went to shit. Across from you sat Yoongi, who remained silent with his head down as he picked at the scraps of food on his plate.
After everyone finished eating and cleaned up, Namjoon called for a âfamily meetingâ. Much to your surprise, you were invited to join. Sat on the table were various pieces of paper, and a calendar that you could only assume belonged to the previous owners based on the markings that were on it.
âWe need to discuss this weekâs schedule. Obviously, our last supply run went to shit. So Iâm thinking that we may need to make an extra trip to make up for itââ Namjoon began. âAlso, now that thereâs eight of us, we should decide who is responsible for what this week.â He said as he slid a sheet to the middle of table labeled âChoresâ.
Everyone began discussing who would be responsible for what this week, but you werenât quite sure where you would fit in. For the most part whenever someone would ask what you wanted to be a part of, you sided with accompanying Hobi with whatever he was doing as it felt like the safe thing to do. Luckily for you, most of the chores were done in pairs so it worked out. Everyone agreed that itâd be best to send four people to do supply runs rather than the whole group, although no one could decide on how the groups would be split.
âI just donât think itâd be fair to send someone out twice this week.â Jungkook stated.
âWhat if we just draw names or something?â Jin suggested. You listened as everyone began bickering about the arrangements, but it was hard to keep up as everyone spoke over each other. It wasnât until Yoongi started speaking that everyone piped down.
âWhy donât we all go out instead of making two trips this week? We can do a group of four and three and one of us can stay back. Each group will head in a separate direction, and weâll meet back up here.â He suggested.
You turned your attention back to Namjoon who seemed to be considering the idea. âThat could work.â He said as he began drawing out a map. He wrote down various street names, including the street that you all were staying on before making circles around each one.
âOk so this is where we are, and this is where we ran into trouble on our last run-âhe began as he pointed to each location. âIâm thinking that the group of four can travel a bit further down and the group of three will go to the shopping center on the other side. That way, weâll only be a couple blocks away from each other.â He explained and everyone agreed.
âNow we just need to figure out who is in each group.â Jin added.
âHow about Jungkook, Hobi, Jin, and Taehyung as group one. Then me, Yoongi, and Namjoon as group two. And Y/N can stay here and keep a lookout.â Jimin suggested.
They all seemed to be satisfied with the plan, but you couldnât help but feel a bit guilty. Maybe it was because of Yoongiâs comments or maybe it was just because you didnât want to be alone again. Either way, something in you caused your mouth to work faster than your brain did.
âI can go!â You quickly said, causing everyone to face you. You looked around, your eyes catching Yoongiâs wide ones. He looked shocked and a tad confused as his mouth hung open slightly.
âY/N you donât need to do that, itâs dangerous. You can hang out here and keep an eye out for us.â Hobi said as he placed his hand on top of yours, once again sharing unspoken words with a look that said, please donât.
âNo, itâs ok. I want to. Itâs the least I could do and besides, I need to contribute something. I can take Namjoonâs place in group two, and he can help us unpack when we get back.â You said, avoiding eye contact with Hobi.
âIf you really want to go, then itâs fine with me. Jin and I will get everything ready tonight so you guys can leave tomorrow morning.â Namjoon said.
After the âfamily meetingâ had concluded, you made your way back upstairs to yours and Yoongiâs room. Emptying out your backpack for Namjoon to prep and placing your gun into the bedside table.
âY/N?â You turned as you heard Yoongiâs voice. He was standing in the doorway watching you.
âHey, I was just about to take my bag downstairs.â You said as you attempted to walk past him, coming to a halt as his arm blocked your exit.
âYou donât have to go tomorrow. Itâs ok if youâd rather stay here.â
âI want to go, Yoongi.â You stayed dryly.
âLook, if itâs about what I said. I didnât meanâ â
âThis has nothing to do with what you said. Iâm going because I want to, not because of you. And donât say that you didnât mean anything by it, because you did and thatâs fine. I get that itâs an inconvenience to have me here, but Iâm going to help out if I can.â You stated, cutting him off.
âI didnât mean it that way.â He said, slightly above a whisper as he looked down at his feet.
âWhatever, it doesnât matter anyways.â You said as you pushed your way through.
The rest of the day was full of preparation. Namjoon made everyone their own map with directions of each of the stores, along with a guide to get back to the house. You also discussed a backup plan in case anyone got lost or separated. As night rolled back around, everyoneâs routine seemed to be somewhat the same with each pair dispersing to their rooms.
Yoongi managed to beat you to your room once again. Although this time, he wasnât completely immersed within his book. He sat up as you walked in, and you could feel his eyes following you. However, you chose to ignore him this time as you crawled into bed and faced the wall. Perhaps heâs getting a taste of his own medicine.
You giggled as you looked at the pictures youâd taken of your boyfriend as he drove. The first couple were normal, but once he realized what you were doing, he began making the weirdest faces possible. You two had taken the weekend off to go on a trip to a cabin for your anniversary. You were super excited to get some proper alone time with him. You both had such busy schedules that it made vacations like this nearly impossible.
âThis is a good one.â You said through a laugh as you added one of the pictures to your favorite's album.
âI probably look crazy.â He joked; eyes still glued to the road.
âYou are crazy, baby.â You told him, laughing harder as he rolled his eyes at you. âHey, how much longer until we get there?â You asked.
âWeâre about ten minutes away. Iâm going to stop at the gas station really quickly.â He told you as he pulled into the parking lot.
Once parked, he stepped out of the car to start pumping gas. You sat in the car for a moment, admiring the clear view of the mountains before deciding to hop out and take some pictures. You smiled to yourself as you found the perfect angle and began snapping as many photos as you could.
There was a slight gap in between the trees, and you wanted to add it to your collection. So, you moved to the other side of the parking lot to get a better view of it. You began messing with the filters on your phone and aimed the camera towards the trees to see how theyâd look. You froze for a moment, swearing that you could see someone walking in between the trees. You began zooming in a bit to see what they were doing. They stopped walking for a moment and stood eerily still as they kept their head facing forward.
âWhat the fuck?â You said to yourself as you attempted to zoom in more. From what you could see, they seemed to be wearing clothes that were almost identical to Yoongiâs.
You rolled your eyes as a car flew down the road, blocking your line of sight. Once they were gone, you brought your phone back up and zoomed in again. Chills ran down your spine as you realized that the person was now staring directly at you. You quickly shoved your phone back into your pocket and got back into the car.
âYou ready?â You jumped as Yoongiâs low voice pulled you from your thoughts.
âY-yeah letâs go.â You said through a shaky voice as you tried to calm your nerves.
âAre you ok? You look like youâve seen a ghost.â He asked you sweetly as he placed a hand on top of yours, giving it a gentle squeeze.
âIâm fine. I just saw someone standing in the woods.â You said between deep breaths.
âThere may be hiking trails down there. I wouldnât worry about it. Besides, it doesnât look like anyone is there now.â He comforted.
âI know, but this person looked so weird. Their movements seemed so robotic in a way. Actually, they kind of looked like you.â You told him, finally meeting his gaze.
âSo, youâre telling me that you saw my doppelgänger and he likes hiking?â He lightheartedly joked in an attempt to ease the tension.
âYouâre so dumb.â You laughed as you playfully smacked his arm.
âHey, at least I donât get freaked out by seeing people exercise.â He joked, raising his hands in defense.
âShut up-â you said through a laugh. âCome on, letâs get going.â
You werenât on the road for long before you finally reached the cabin. It was absolutely gorgeous and although its age showed, it just gave it more character. You sat your bags down on the floor as you admired the interior decor. You smiled as you felt two, strong arms wrap around your waist.
âItâs so peaceful here.â Yoongi whispered, as he placed a few kisses on your neck before burying his head.
âItâs perfect.â You told him, turning around to face him and connecting your lips with his.
âHow about we check out the hot tub?â He suggested.
âThat sounds amazing.â You said, giving him a gentle kiss before heading upstairs to change.
You placed your bags on the bed and began searching for your swimming suit. You began to remove your clothes, pausing for a bit and looking around the room. You couldnât shake the feeling that you were being watched. The curtains were open, allowing some sunlight in which made you assume thatâs where the feeling came from. You closed them and proceeded to change.
The cabin was completely secluded and surrounded by trees, so it was unlikely that anyone could see you. The nearest cabin was miles away and this isnât a hiking area. After changing, you made your way back downstairs.
âBaby, could you grab a couple of glasses of wine before you come outside?â You asked Yoongi who was searching for his swim trunks.
âYeah, Iâll be out there in a minute.â He told you.
As you made your way outside, you smiled at the sound of birds singing. You felt as if this trip would be perfect for you and Yoongi. You didnât have much trouble in your relationship per se, but things had gotten hard recently. You barely had time to see each other, and when you did, it was often spent sleeping or silently watching movies as both of you were too exhausted to speak. You missed him, even though you still had him.
You slowly crawled into the hot tub, feeling your shoulders relax as you sank into the hot water and allowed your eyes to close. You let out a deep sigh as you felt two hands began massaging your shoulders. You didnât hear Yoongi come outside so you assumed he wanted to sneak up on you.
âAre you going to get in?â You asked softly, letting out a small laugh when he didnât respond.
You opened your eyes and turned around once you no longer felt his hands. Your heart sank to your stomach as you looked around, realizing that no one was there. You jumped as you heard the patio door open.
âSorry I took so long. Namjoon called to make sure we made it.â Yoongi said as he made his way to you, carrying two glasses of wine.
You didnât say anything. You just looked at him with wide eyes, trying to make sense of what just happened. You began glancing between him and the trees behind you.
âWere you not already out here?â You asked as he crawled into the tub and handed you your glass.
âNo.â He stated, although it sounded like more of a question. He looked at you with concern written all over his face as he saw how anxious you were. âAre you okay?â
âYeah, itâs justâŚI just-â you tried to speak but there was nothing you could say without sounding crazy. So, once again, you pushed the uneasy feeling away. âIâm fine. I think Iâm just tired from the trip.â You finished.
âWell, come relax then.â He told you with an empathetic look as he extended his arms for you to join.
You rested your back against his chest, closing your eyes once more as he began playing with your hair.
âWe should watch a scary movie tonight.â He suggested.
âYou hate scary movies.â You laughed.
âYeah, but you like them.â He stated simply, causing you to smile.
âI love you, baby.â
âI love you too, Y/Nâ
You two remained in the hot tub for a while, loving the way the hot water eased your sore muscles. Once you got out, you both went upstairs to take a shower before heading back down to the living room. You searched through movies on Netflix while Yoongi finished up dinner.
Once he was done, he brought you your food as he settled beside you on the couch, laughing a bit as he saw the title of the movie you picked.
âCabin in the Woods?â He asked.
âYeah, it feels fitting.â You responded as you started the movie and began eating.
Yoongi fell asleep towards the end of the movie, head laying on your shoulder as soft snores left his mouth. You smiled as you watched him, placing a gentle kiss on his forehead before gently lifting his head and placing it on the cushions. You got up and went outside through the patio door and lit a cigarette.
You leaned against the railings as you admired how clear the sky looked tonight. You turned your attention to the trees as you heard rustling. The sound caused you to stand up straight and squint your eyes as you tried to get a clearer view. You couldâve sworn that you saw something, but it wasnât moving anymore.
You jumped as you saw a man peek his head out from behind the trees. It was the same man as before. The one who looked like Yoongi. You dropped your cigarette and ran inside, slamming the door shut and locking it before shutting the curtains.
The sound woke Yoongi up, causing him to run towards you.
âWhat happened?â He asked, placing his hands on your shoulders to steady you as you were shaking.
âThereâs someone out there, Yoongi. You need to call the police.â You said, panicking, as you released yourself from his grip and began searching for your phone.
âWhat are you talking about?â He asked, following your every move as you ran around searching for the device.
âThereâs fucking someone out there, Yoongi. And he fucking looks like you.â You faced him as tears began falling from your eyes.
âBaby, please breathe. Youâre scaring me.â He said softly in an attempt to comfort you.
âIâm fucking scared, Yoongi. Fuck, it was the same guy I saw before, and he looks exactly like you. All this weird shit has been happening since we got here, and we need to leave.â
âWhat do you mean? What else has happened.â He asked, voice slightly raised. You didnât need to fight, not right now. You pinched the bridge of your nose and began taking deep breaths.
âThere was the guy in the woods, then I felt like someone was watching me when I was upstairs changing, and then I felt you massaging my shoulders outside only to find out that youâd been on the phone with Namjoon the whole goddamn time, Yoongi.â You told him, slightly screaming towards the end.
He stared at you in disbelief as he tried to make sense of everything you told him. He opened and closed his mouth a couple of times as if he wanted to speak, but the words wouldnât come out.
âWhy didnât you say anything?â He asked you in a hushed tone.
âBecause I didnât want you to think that I was crazy. I thought that I was just tired from the trip and that my mind was just playing tricks on me-â
âY/N-â he attempted to cut you off, but to no avail.
âYou said that there were hiking trails so I brushed it off-â you continued, hands moving around frantically as you began pacing back and forth.
âY/N-â
âAnd I thought that I just felt like I was being watched because the bedroom curtains were open-â
âFor fucks sake, Y/N! Listen to me!â He yelled, causing you to pause. Yoongi never yelled at you. No matter how angry or frustrated he was, he never yelled, and it took you by surprise.
âI saw something too.â He told you.
âW-what?â You asked, barely above a whisper.
âWhen I was on the phone with Namjoon, I looked out of the kitchen window and I thought that I saw you by the car. I didnât think anything of it and assumed that you were just grabbing something, but I walked towards the patio, and you were already in the hot tub.â He told you with a look of guilt on his face.
âBaby, you shouldâve told me.â You said, as you walked over to him and cupped his face gently.
âI know. I just didnât want to ruin this trip. Iâm so sorry, Y/N.â He whispered as tears began forming in his eyes.
âDonât apologize. You didnât know.â You comforted, as you wrapped your arms around his neck.
âWe need to call someone.â He reminded, warranting you to pull away, as you nodded in agreement.
You two began walking towards the living room, unsure if either of your phones had managed to slip between the cracks of the couch. You both paused and looked at each other as you heard a knock on the front door. You opened your mouth to speak, but you were quickly stopped by Yoongi as he put a finger to his lips, shushing you.
You both tiptoed to the door, careful not to make any sounds as you looked through the peephole. Your blood ran cold as you saw them. Two people who looked identical to both you and Yoongi. You wanted to back away. You wanted to stop looking, but you couldnât. They knew you were in there and unbeknownst to you, they knew that you were looking right at them.
They both smiled eerily as they stared directly at the peephole with no sign of life visible within their eyes. Their faces began to warp and their limbs began contorting, and soon enough they no longer resembled you or Yoongi.
You backed away from the peephole, eyes wide and full of tears as you looked at Yoongi. You opened your mouth to speak, but came to a halt as they began banging on the door again, slightly knocking you back in the process. This time much louder and forceful. Yoongi pulled you behind him and began backing up. With each bang, the door pushed inward.
You frantically looked up at your boyfriend who was also crying but doing his best to maintain composure for you. His eyes met yours for a moment, and once they did, the loud thud of the door hitting the wooden floor echoed throughout the house. You both looked up, and within a second screams began filling the walls.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's now been two days since you met Hobi and his friends, and today you were going to help them look for supplies. You couldn't quite comprehend why youâd volunteered to go out. You didn't have nearly as much experience as they did when it came to dealing with the zombies. Yeah, maybe it was easier to face them when you were part of a group, but you had been alone up until now.
You had the basic knowledge of how to deal with them, but no amount of preparation or intelligence could take away the overwhelming reality of the current state of the world. The truth is, nothing is guaranteed. There are no promises that could be made in regard to someoneâs safety, theyâd all be empty.
The harsh reality is that at any given moment, one of us could turn into a monster. Whether it happens because youâve been bitten and are now infected, or you simply give in to the darkness inside of you. Either way, becoming something that you donât want to become seems somewhat inevitable at this point.
You already felt it from the moment this mess began. You saw it when you fired a bullet directly into a zombieâs head to save Hobi. Sure, zombies were just a shell of the person that they once were, but they were still a person at some point. A human being with thoughts, feelings, goals, and aspirations. Someone who was loved by others and loved those people right back. You couldnât help but wonder if the only difference between zombies and those who were still alive was as simple as a heartbeat.
There was no time to reconsider the solidity of your moral compass. The boys took you in and you needed to help them. Fresh water and a warm meal was somewhat unheard of these days, but that didnât stop them from doing what they could for you.
You dressed yourself in a pair of jeans, along with a long sleeved shirt and boots before tying your hair up into a ponytail and sliding on a black baseball cap. You gave yourself one final look over before grabbing your gun and heading downstairs. Everyone else was already down there, standing in the dining room. Everyoneâs bags were laid out on the dining table along with various weapons. You were greeted by Jimin who was leaning against the countertop.
âAh, Y/N!â He exclaimed, drawing everyoneâs attention towards you, as he motioned for you to stand by him.
âGood morning, everyone.â You greeted as you joined Jimin.
Much to your surprise, Hobi didnât rush over to greet you as he did the previous morning. Instead, he remained silent as he stood in the corner by Yoongi who also kept quiet as his sight remained glued to the floor.
Great, theyâre both upset with me. You thought to yourself. You understood Hobiâs hesitation when it came to you deciding to join them on a supply run. I mean, you were going in a smaller group opposite of his, and according to his statement to Taehyung the other day, he promised himself that heâd protect you. Yoongi, however, was a mystery. One that you were sure youâd figure out one day, but today was not that day.
âAre you ready?â Namjoon asked as he walked over to you, handing you your bag.
âIâm ready.â You said between a deep breath.
âEach group has a radio, including myself. Theyâre long range so team one and team two will be able to alert each other in case they need help. I wonât be able to hear you all once you pass the halfway point.â He said, referring to the location in between each teamâs destination and the house. âKeep your gun in your back pocket but avoid using it if you don't have to. You donât want to alert more zombies than you need to. I placed a miniature hatchet in your bag, use that if you can.â He finished as you nodded in response.
âWeâll be taking mine and Yoongiâs cars this time, so letâs try to get as much as we can.â Jin added.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You all made your way outside and began loading up the separate vehicles. You were in the middle of sorting through your bag, pulling out the hatchet to have it prepared when you felt a hand on your shoulder. You turned around and were met with Hobiâs kind eyes.
âHi.â He said softly with a weak smile.
âHey. Listen, I know that you want me stay back but-â you began but were interrupted as Hobi gently held up your arm, taking off the bracelet on his wrist and placing it on yours. âWhatâs this?â You asked as you began examining it. It was purple and twine-like with beads that spelled out âhopeâ in the middle.
âThis is my favorite bracelet. I never take it off.â He stated simply, as he kept a gentle hold on your wrist.
âSo, why are you giving it to me?â You asked, a bit bewildered.
âBecause itâs my favorite, which means that you have no choice but to be safe and make it back home so you can return it to me.â He said sweetly, causing you to reach up to wrap your arms around his neck.
âI promise to give it back to you.â You whispered as you pulled away to look at him. He didnât try to stop you from going. Didnât try to argue with you about it. As much as he didnât like it, he respected your decision and accepted it as your own to make.
âWe should get going. Be safe out there, Y/N.â
âYou be safe too, Hobi.â You told him before climbing into the backseat. Yoongi entered the driver's side with Jimin in the passenger. You all gave Namjoon a final wave before pulling off, following behind Jinâs car.
The car ride was silent. Even Jimin, who was typically a ball of energy, kept quiet. It seemed like everyone was nervous about the trip and you couldnât help but wonder if it was the same for the other group.
âNamjoon Hyung, weâve made it to the halfway point.â Jimin spoke into the radio, letting Namjoon know that we would no longer be in contact with him.
Your anxiety arose slightly as the car in front of you made a left while your car made a right. This was it. No going back now. Yoongi drove for a few more minutes before the car came to a stop.
âFuck.â He said, causing you to look out of the front window. The rest of the path was blocked off by a row of cars.
âWhat should we do?â Jimin asked as he looked at Yoongi.
âThereâs no way for us to drive through. Weâre going to have to walk. We arenât too far away from the shop.â He groaned as he began pulling the car to the side of the road before parking. âRadio the other team, let them know that weâre continuing on foot.â
Jimin did as he was told, letting Jin know that our path was blocked and that the only way weâd get through is by walking.
âAlright, we need to move carefully. I donât know if those cars were placed there in an attempt to keep zombies out or people. Either way, we stay alert and donât draw any attention to ourselves.â Yoongi said as he glanced at both you and Jimin.
You hadnât considered that the barrier mightâve been created to prevent people from getting through. The fact that some people were still alive was new to you.
âWhat do you mean, could there be another group here?â You asked him.
âI donât know. Hopefully we donât find out.â He stated simply. You turned your attention to Jimin who seemed as anxious as you were.
âWeâll be okay.â Jimin said and you werenât sure if he was trying to reassure you or himself. Either way, it wasnât very convincing.
You all made your way out of the car, weapons in hand as you began making your journey. Yoongi led the way with Jimin behind and you following. Slowing down as you all came across a sign hanging from a traffic light reading âTURN BACKâ.
âLetâs keep moving.â Yoongi whispered.
As you reached your destination, you all found yourselves staring at the entrance. The doors and windows were all locked and none of you wanted to risk breaking them as itâd alert anything around you.
âLetâs check the rear entrance.â You said, as you began circling the building with the others trailing behind you. The back door was locked as well but you noticed a window to the right side of it that was ajar. It wasnât excessively high up, but thereâs no way that you all could climb through on your own.
âOne of us could climb in through here and open the door for the others.â You stated as you turned to face the two behind you.
âJimin-ah, lift me up. Iâll let you both in.â Yoongi said as he began taking his backpack off.
âNo, I can do it.â You said, handing your bag to Yoongi.
âY/N, are you sure thatâs a good idea?â Jimin asked you with a hint of hesitation in his tone.
âSheâs not going. We have no clue whatâs waiting for us on the other side.â Yoongi stated sternly.
âI wasnât asking for permission. What makes you think that you can tell me what I can and canât do?â You argued.
âIâm the one leading this goddamn team.â He snapped back.
âWell, Iâm the only one with a gun, Yoongi. And correct me if Iâm wrong, but Iâm pretty sure that Iâm the only one who knows how to use one.â You refuted as you looked at the both of them.
Yoongi sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. You were right and he knew it. You were the only one within your group who could fire a guaranteed shot. âHoseokâs going to fucking kill me.â He groaned.
âY/N, get on my shoulders and see if anything is in there.â Jimin told you, doing his best to cut through the tension. You nodded as you carefully climbed onto his shoulders as Yoongi kept a hand on your back to keep you from falling.
You attempted to open the window more, stopping abruptly and cringing a bit as you heard it begin to squeak. The wind started to pick up, allowing the scent of the room to air out. You began smelling the familiar stench of a rotting corpse, causing you to gag a bit as you covered your nose with your sleeve. It was then that you noticed the amount of dried blood all over the floor and walls.
There were some hidden corners in the room, and you were unsure if a zombie or another person could be occupying them. You were taken from your thoughts as you heard a light growl. You turned your attention to the sound, breath catching in your lungs as you saw it. Out of the shadows, a zombie appeared. It was a male and he looked young, probably in his early twenties.
As he got closer, you saw something that you were sure would never leave your mind. His eyes were gone, almost as if theyâd been perfectly gouged from his head. It was clear that he hadnât done it to himself, as you noticed that his wrists had been zip tied together and a sign hung from his neck reading âTRAITORâ.
As he dragged his feet across the floor, it became evident that he couldnât see you. You looked down at Yoongi who was watching you with a concerned expression, as he saw how uneasy you looked. You said nothing, however. Instead, you raised a finger to your lips, signaling him to remain silent. Namjoonâs words lingered in your mind, reminding you not to use your gun unless you absolutely had to.
You carefully began crawling through the window, attempting to remain as quiet as possible. There was a desk directly below the window with papers and cans scattered around it. Your movements remained slow as you entered the other side, doing your best not to knock anything over in the process. Luckily, you succeeded but now you were wondering how youâd get down without knocking anything over.
You crouched down and placed your hands on the table for support. You managed to guide your feet to the floor and readied yourself, gripping the hatchet in your hand tightly. You took small steps to the creature who was swaying side to side. You felt a hint of guilt as your eyes remained fixed on his hollow, bloody sockets.
âIâm sorry.â You whispered, causing the creature to open his mouth and let out a deep groan. You cut him off as your hatchet made connection with his skull, landing right in the middle. He remained still for a moment, mouth still hanging open before he began to fall. You carefully guided his lifeless body to the floor, refusing to let him go until he was completely flat. You didnât know if anything else was roaming around here, and the last thing you needed was a loud thud giving away your position.
You released a shaky breath that you hadnât realized youâd been holding as you looked at him. He died twice. You thought to yourself. You didnât know who he was or what he did, but you knew that he didnât deserve to die that way. It was unclear if he was bitten before heâd been tortured or after. Either way, he didnât pass away peacefully. He was murdered brutally.
You shook your head as you tried to push away those thoughts, guiding your attention back to the task at hand. You turned to the door, carefully pushing it open to allow the two men to enter. Jiminâs eyes met yours and he quickly came to check on you. It wasnât until that moment that you realized youâd been crying.
âHoly fuck.â Yoongi whispered causing Jimin to turn his attention to whatever Yoongi was looking at.
âHow could someone do that?â Jimin said, now understanding why you were so upset.
âIt doesnât matter. He can rest now. C'mon, letâs get what we need and get out of here.â You said in an emotionless tone as you began wiping your tears.
âSheâs right, Jimin. Letâs go.â Yoongiâs tone was a bit different than it had been before. His words were soft, but there was a hint of sadness coating them. Maybe he was going through the same thought process as you were. You turned to face him. The look he gave you was one of empathy, and he offered you a reassuring nod that you reciprocated.
Yoongi began leading the way once again, cautiously stepping out of the room as Jimin followed. You stopped in the doorway, turning to face the corpse once again. âI hope youâre at peace.â You whispered before following the other two.
You all searched around for supplies, finding various canned goods and some drinks as well. You grabbed some hygienic products that you found scattered along the floor before continuing your search. You paused as you came across some books. You looked around to make sure that the others werenât watching you before directing your attention back to them.
You werenât sure what it was, but something within you felt the need to make amends with Yoongi. Sure, he was being a bit of an asshole earlier, but we were all just trying to do our best to survive. You thought for a moment before grabbing a couple of them to give to Yoongi once you all made it back home, placing them in the front pocket of your bag. You began looking for more supplies again, finding more cans of food hidden underneath one of the shelves.
You stretched your arm out as you tried to reach all of them, your hands brushing against something small and flat. You laughed lightly as you inspected the item. It was a chocolate bar, still wrapped perfectly. You began searching for a date to make sure it was still good, letting out a satisfied hum when you saw that it wasnât expired yet. You placed it in your bag next to Yoongiâs books. You figured you could give it to Hobi when you returned his bracelet to him.
Once you all were certain that youâd properly cleaned out the shop, you began making your way back to the car.
âWe made it!â Jimin said buoyantly as you all climbed into your seats.
You were relieved to say the least, but you still couldnât shake that image from your mind. Youâve seen zombies before and you knew that each of them had a story, but this was the first time that youâd witnessed something so intense.
âIâm going to check on the others.â Yoongi said as he reached for the radio.
âSeokjin Hyung?â Yoongi spoke into the device.
âYeah, are you all alright?â Jin responded rather quickly.
âWeâre okay. Weâre heading back now. Are you guys almost done?â Yoongi asked.
âWeâve just left. See you soon.â Jin said.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The drive back wasnât nearly as silent as before, but the energy was still lackluster.
âI think we should tell the others about what we saw. We donât know if the people who did that are still out there.â Yoongi stated. You didnât want to relive that experience, but you understood where he was coming from. So, you agreed, as did Jimin. If someone could do something like that to someone they knew, then what would they do to complete strangers?
As you approached the house, you saw Namjoon and the others unloading the first car. They all turned their direction to your group, waving and offering big smiles. You barely had time to step out of the car before Hobi ran up to you, embracing you in a tight hug which you reciprocated.
âYou made it!â He said brightly.
âI promised you I would.â You laughed.
âI missed you.â He said as he pulled away, keeping his hands on your shoulders.
âI missed you too, Hobi. Actually, I got you something.â You told him. You turned to grab your bag and opened the front pocket to redeem the chocolate bar before handing it to him. âI only found one, so donât let the others see.â You whispered.
âYou should keep it for yourself then!â He said with wide eyes as he tried to give it back to you, causing you to cross your arms.
âNope, I got it for you. Someone so sweet should have something sweet.â You said, causing him to smile bigger than he already was. You werenât sure how it was even possible, but you enjoyed the view, nonetheless.
âThank you, Y/N! Letâs split it.â He insisted.
âWhatever you want, Hobi.â You agreed, motioning for him to hide it as the others began walking up to you, greeting you with warm smiles.
They were happy to see you, and you were just as happy to see them. You didnât know them well at all, but you still found yourself comforted by their presence.
After everyone unloaded their bags onto the dining table, the boys began looking through everything. Seokjinâs team had a great haul, also finding various canned goods and drinks along with a few snacks like chips and protein bars that were still good. You managed to sneak upstairs to hide the books you grabbed for Yoongi. You placed them in the bedside table along with your gun before heading back downstairs.
All of the items had been put away into the cabinets and everyone was sitting at the table, chatting away as Namjoon finished plating the food heâd made for us. Just like the previous day, you sat in between Hobi and Jimin. Namjoon passed out bowls of soup to everyone. No oneâs bowls were completely full as we needed to make sure things lasted as long as possible.
Everyone began talking amongst each other and this time you allowed yourself to join them. You felt as if you were getting to know them better as they told you about their livesâ when everything was normal, and you told them about yours. Jungkook told you about all of his tattoos, and you two joked about getting matching ones when all of this ended. If all of this ended.
You realized that youâd never given Hobi back his bracelet, and it seemed like he forgot to ask for it back.
âHere, I forgot to give this back to you.â You said softly, holding the piece of jewelry in your hand for him to take.
âYou keep it.â He told you.
âBut itâs your favorite.â
âIt is, but I want you to hold onto it for a bit longer. Think of it as your lucky charm.â
You thought for a moment as you put the bracelet back on. You wanted to give him something in return. Something that would inspire him to stay safe at all costs, because he knew that heâd need to return it to you at some point. It felt like a lightbulb turned on when you realized that your hair was still in a ponytail, and you were still wearing your hat.
âChoose.â You told him, holding both your hat and your scrunchie in each hand. He began tapping his finger against his chin in an animated manner.
âHow about this? Itâs basically the same thing.â He said as he pointed to your scrunchie, causing you to laugh a bit as you slid the item onto his wrist.
âThere, now we both have lucky charms.â
Everyone finished their meals, but we all remained at the table. Far too engrossed in our conversations to be bothered with getting up from our seats.
âEveryone-â Yoongi spoke loudly, drawing everyoneâs attention. âJimin, Y/N, and I witnessed something during our trip that we think you all should know about.â He finished. You and Jimin shared an uncomfortable look with each other. Neither of you wanted to talk about it, but you knew that it needed to be done.
âWhat happened?â Namjoon asked inquisitively.
You guys told them everything. About the cars, the sign in the road, the zombie. Every weird thing that you witnessed. You made sure to avoid mentioning the fact that you entered the building on your own, knowing that Hobi would be pissed at Yoongi and Jimin for allowing it. They didnât express it, but they noticed what you were doing, and they were grateful for it.
âThatâs awful.â Tae said as he sighed deeply at the end of the story.
âYou guys didnât see anyone around?â Jin asked.
âNo, we didnât. We werenât sure if theyâd left or if they were dead now too.â You told him.
âIâm just glad that you all made it back safely.â Jungkook stated.
âThis isnât good. Thereâs no telling how long that guy had been there.â Namjoon said, somewhat stating the obvious. Although, we were all thinking the same thing.
âWhat should we do? I mean, if theyâre still alive and theyâre still around, whatâs to say we wonât run into them?â Jin asked.
âMaybe we should consider moving?â Hobi suggested.
It was an uncomfortable thing to think about, but this was the reality you all were faced with. The people who killed that man could still be alive and for all you knew, they could still be in the area. No one could say how many there were of them. We couldnât just take a risk and assume that weâd be fine.
âItâs something to think about. Weâve talked about going somewhere else when we couldnât find any more supplies, but we never planned for something like this.â Namjoon said.
You all remained silent for a moment as everyone began weighing out the options, not that there was a lot to begin with.
âY/N, I need something from you.â Namjoon said, causing you to sit up and give him your full attention.
âWhat is it?â You asked.
âI need you to teach us all how to shoot.â He stated, causing everyone to turn to you.
âI can do that. We need to find somewhere that we can practice without making too much noise.â You told them.
âI agree. I know we were trying to avoid making two trips this week, but weâre going to need more guns. Ideally, everyone would be armed.â Namjoon said.
âThereâs a shooting range not too far from here. I think that they sold rifles as well for hunting.â Yoongi stated.
âWe can start searching there. Maybe we can find some suppressors as well, itâd make training a lot easier." You responded.
âItâs settled. Iâll go with you and everyone else will stay here.â Namjoon stated.
âShouldnât half of us go? I can come too. Itâs dangerous for both of you to go alone.â Hobi asked.
âIt is dangerous, which is exactly why you all need to stay here. A group is too noticeable. Iâm not sending Y/N out by herself, and I donât know enough about guns. Besides, I stayed back today.â Namjoon told him.
âWeâll be ok. Maybe you guys could try securing the house a bit more? It would give us some extra protection until we decide where weâre going.â You stated to everyone, but you were mainly speaking to Hobi in an attempt to calm his nerves.
âWe still have a few hours of daylight left. We can go now.â You told Namjoon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Everyone who was hanging back remained at the table, discussing ways that they could secure the house. You ran upstairs to grab your things and headed back down.
âHere.â Yoongi said as he placed his car keys in your hand. âNamjoon doesnât have a lot of experience driving. You can take my car. It has more gas in it than Jinâs.â He continued.
âThank you.â You said as you placed the keys in your pocket.
âItâs no problem. Just donât wreck it.â He lightheartedly joked.
âOh, Iâm going to drive it into the nearest tree.â You said sarcastically, causing him to roll his eyes but you could see the smirk that he was trying to hide.
âAre you ready?â Namjoon asked as he grabbed his bag.
âYep, letâs go.â You told him before quickly making your way over to Hobi. âWeâll be back before you know it.â You whispered to him, trying not to interrupt the others who were still talking.
âI know you will. We still have a chocolate bar to split.â He said, causing you to let out a small laugh.
Yoongi wasnât lying when he said that the range wasnât far. It took less than 10 minutes to get there, which was relieving. You felt as if you and Namjoon could grab what you needed without much trouble. As you parked the car across the street from the store, you couldnât help the confusion building inside of you. The windows were still intact, seeming as if no one had attempted to get in.
âDonât you think itâs weird that no oneâs broken in?â You asked as you turned to face Namjoon.
âA little bit. I think that they may have protective glass. Maybe thatâs why?â He suggested.
âI guess that could be it. How in the hell are we supposed to get in then?â
âWeâll just have to scope out the area. I can try to pick the lock if I need to.â He said, causing you to nod.
As you both made your way to the store entrance, you began looking through the windows in search of any zombies or people, just as Jimin had instructed you to do earlier in the day. Everything seemed perfectly intact. No guns were missing from the walls behind the counter. There was no indication that someone had gone in and trashed the place, it all looked untouched.
âIâm going to check around the back. Maybe thereâs an entry point there.â You told Namjoon as he began fumbling with the lock, letting out a low hum in response.
As you began circling the building you felt as if you were repeating your steps, just at a different store. You knew that history tended to repeat itself, but youâd hoped that it wouldnât happen to you within the same day.
Once you reached the back of the building, you paused for moment and peeked around the corner as you noticed a truck parked in the back. Your intuition seemed to be screaming at you. Sure, there were tons of abandoned cars everywhere, but something in you made you feel as if that one still belonged to someone.
You quickly made your way to the front of the range to let Namjoon know what you saw, but you froze as you reached your destination. The door hung wide open with no sign of the man you came here with. He couldâve easily gotten in on his own, but you knew that he wouldnât have just left you. You took a deep breath before readying your gun as you snuck into the building.
You carefully peeked around each corner as you began heading down the hallway. You slowed down a bit as you heard sounds of a struggle and a voice that belonged to your friend.
âGet the fuck off of me!â He yelled.
âNo, not until you tell me why youâre here. Are you alone?â You heard another manâs voice tell him.
âFor fucks sake I was looking for a gun and Iâm by myself.â Namjoon said. He wasnât going to let this random man know that you were with him.
You peeked around the corner with caution, the manâs back was facing you as he had Namjoon pinned the floor with a knife to his neck. You slowly creeped up behind him, putting the gun to his head and clicking it.
âDrop your weapon and get off of him.â You said sternly, hoping that he couldnât sense the shaking of your hands.
The man did as he was told, dropping the knife beside him and standing up with his hands raised. He attempted to turn around to face you, but you pressed the gun harder against him, causing him to stop with a flinch.
âDonât fucking move unless I say so!â You yelled as you began pushing him, directing him to stand against the wall. You glanced at Namjoon who was trying to catch his breath as he stood up.
âGo find something to tie him up with.â You told him, cocking your head to the side as to guide him.
âL-look, Iâm sorry. I wasnât going to hurt him. I just wanted to know who he was.â The man stuttered.
âDonât lie to me.â You told him.
âWe can work this out! You guys can take whatever you need, and weâll go on about our days.â He pleaded.
âSomething tells me that it wonât be that simple.â You told him.
âI found some rope.â Namjoon said as he sprinted back into the room.
âPut your hands behind your back.â You instructed the man, who did as he was told.
âTie him up.â You directed Namjoon as you kept the gun pressed to the manâs head.
Namjoon quickly did as you instructed him to do, unsure of what the end plan was. To be honest, you didnât know either. You were just trying to find a way to keep the two of you safe without having to injure the man.
âHere.â You whispered as you carefully guided Namjoon's right hand to take the place of yours holding the gun. âKeep an eye on him. If he moves, pull the trigger.â You finished, making sure to state the last sentence loud enough for the man to hear.
Once you were sure that Namjoon was in a good position, you quickly grabbed both of your bags and made your way to the front of the store to fill them up. You grabbed everything that you could including bullets, handguns, suppressors, and the two hunting rifles that were hanging on the wall.
You began loading one of the rifles that was hanging by its strap on your shoulder and headed back to Namjoon. The man was babbling on about any and everything in an attempt to persuade the two of you to release him.
âYou wonât get away with this!â He cried. âMy friends will come looking for me.â
âListen to me-â you said, cutting him off. âWe are going to leave and you arenât going to try and stop us. Iâm not going to kill you, but I promise you that if you or any of your friends try to find us, I will not hesitate. I will kill each and every one of you. Do you understand me?â You growled.
âY-yes. I understand.â He whined.
âGood. Get down on your knees, do not turn around.â You instructed, as you handed Namjoon back his bag.
Once the man was on the floor, you began backing out of the room with Namjoon following you. You quickly closed the door and grabbed a chair, placing it underneath the doorknob before hastily returning to the car and speeding off.
âShit!â Namjoon breathed.
You didnât respond. Too focused on the road and checking your mirrors to make sure that you werenât being followed.
âYou saved my life, Y/N. Thank you.â Namjoon expressed gratefully.
âYou donât need to thank me. You wouldâve done the same.â You breathed, slowly relaxing a bit when you were a good distance away from the building.
âI know, but still. I wouldnât have made it out of there if it werenât for you.â
âDo you think he was being honest about his friends?â You questioned as his words replayed in your mind.
Namjoon signed deeply before responding. Shaking his head lightly. âI donât know.â He admitted as he turned to face you.
You simply nodded as you bit your lip and attempted to fight the tears that were burning your eyes. You knew that you did what you needed to do. The man wouldâve killed the both of you had you not threatened him, but there was still a sense of guilt as you felt your humanity fading.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The two of you walked through the front door, finally relaxing a bit. The others were quick to try and greet you, but you remained silent as you looked at all of the faces around you. Smiles slowly fading as they saw the distressed look on both yours and Namjoonâs faces.
âWhatâs wrong?â Jungkook asked, eyes bouncing between you and the man stood beside you.
âWe ran into another survivor.â Namjoon stated.
You werenât even sure how it happened, but everyone ended up in the living room. Eyes glued to Namjoon as he told them what happened. You, however, werenât listening. Instead, you sat on the floor with your legs crossed as you began looking through the bags and loaded each of the guns. It wasnât until a voice called your name that you looked up. Everyone was staring at you in disbelief.
âY/N?â Taehyung called out softly. âAre you alright?â He asked, his tone laced with concern.
âIâm fine.â A lie. âI promise.â Another lie. Without another word, you returned your attention to the weapons laid in front of you.
âWe donât have much time. I donât know if that guy was being honest or not, but I donât want to wait around to find out. Y/N will teach us how to use the guns and weâll prepare to move.â Namjoon announced.
Thatâs two lives youâve saved. Two lives within the span of two days. You werenât sure what was happening to you, but it seemed as if by the snap of a finger, something changed. You no longer felt guilty. You no longer felt afraid.
Looking at the men around you, the ones you were so grateful for, you felt nothing except determination. Not a single person or thing would come between you and your friends. Each and every single one of you would make it through, together.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Itâs now been one week since you ran into another survivor. The week was one of preparation. Preparing to move, while also teaching everyone how to handle a gun. Everyone seemed to pick up on it relatively quickly, some a bit more hesitant than others. The questions never ceased to exist. Everyoneâs nerves had peaked. The question of whether or not weâd ever have to use these weapons against another human being lingered incessantly. No one knew what the future would hold. We just knew that weâd be ready for anything.
Jungkook was a good shot. Hell, he even had the potential to be better than you were. With his newfound skill, you opted to give him the second rifle. Everyone agreed that itâd be best to take shifts keeping watch. In five hour, increments, you all took turns. It had been decided that the same system would stay in place when it came to driving. Thereâd be no stopping unless it was to give the current driver a break.
The countryside seemed like a good place to go. Far less crowded, and fewer chances of running into people. The biggest issue, being so far away from everything else. Supply runs could quickly become a problem that no one knew how to handle.
You fought sleep as you leaned back in your chair, rifle resting beside you. Your eyes found a routine of slowly shutting before shooting open as you shook your head. Every time you closed your eyes, you saw that zombie's face. You almost created an image in your mind of what he wouldâve looked like before he was defiled.
It was hard to admit it, but youâd barely slept all week. Each time you managed to doze off, the same exact nightmare would play over and over again. It always began with you in the grocery store with a man. The two of you went back and forth, screaming at each other about loyalty.
âYou lied to me!â A voice would yell. It sounded like yours, but it didnât feel right.
âI was going to tell you, I promise!â The man cried.
âNo, you werenât! Youâre a fucking traitor!â The voice mimicking yours would fight back.
âWhat are you doing?â The man whispered as he backed into a corner.
âItâs so funny. Even when your mouth swears that youâre innocent, your eyes tell another story. And quite frankly, I canât stand to look at them anymore.â The voice laughed through tears.
A cold sensation crept up your arms, covering them in goosebumps. You looked at your right hand, a broken piece of glass rested against your palm. You squeezed it tightly, ignoring the pain as the warm, red liquid dripped down your wrist. You ran towards the man and began stabbing him in each of his eyes. Screams filled the room, but nothing could stop you.
âY/N?â A voice whispered, but you ignored it.
âY/N?â The voice called again. This time, a bit louder. It didnât matter though. You were too angry to stop.
âY/N!â You shot up in your chair, chest rising and falling quickly as you tried to catch your breath. âAre you okay?â
You turned to face Taehyung who was bent down to your eye level, one hand gently gripping your shoulder and the other rested on your knee as if to steady you. You looked around the room as your breathing began to level out. It was just a nightmare. You thought.
âFuck, Iâm sorry, Tae. I mustâve dozed off.â You apologized. You didnât even realize that you subconsciously placed your hand on top of his as it rested on your knee.
âItâs fine, Y/N. Were you dreaming?â He asked softly.
âSomething like that.â You whispered.
âWe donât have to talk about it if you donât want to, but Iâm here if you do.â He told you.
âThank you, Tae, but I think I just need to rest.â Truthfully, you did want to talk about it, but what were you supposed to say? How could you explain that youâve been having these vivid nightmares, and they make you feel like youâre losing it?
âTry to get some sleep, Y/N.â He said as he stood up and extended his hand for you to take.
You offered a weak smile as you grabbed your rifle and went back to yours and Yoongiâs room. Much to your surprise, he was wide awake and reading the same book that he was when you first came here.
âHey.â He greeted lowly as he directed his attention to you.
âHi.â You sighed. âCanât sleep?â You asked him as you sat on the edge of your bed, facing him.
âNo. I canât stop thinking about tomorrow.â He admitted.
Tomorrow was the day that you moved. Unsure of where youâd end up but knowing that youâd figure it out when you got there. Everyone said that they were ready, but it felt more like a figure of speech. None of you were prepared to let go of everything that youâd grown accustomed to.
âWeâll be okay.â You attempted to reassure him.
âWe donât know whatâs out there, Y/N.â
âYouâre right. We donât know whatâs out there, but whatever it may be, weâll face it together.â You told him.
The two of you sat in silence for a bit, too consumed by your own thoughts and worries to even have the slightest of clues on how to comfort the other. You glanced at the book that rested in his lap, suddenly remembering that you never gave him the ones that you found.
âI got you something.â You told him as you grabbed the books from the side table and sat on his bed beside him.
âWhere did you find these?â He questioned as he inspected the covers of the books with wide eyes.
âI grabbed them when we were at the store. I meant to give them to you that night, but with everything going on, it slipped my mind.â You shrugged.
âThank you for this, Y/N. Really, thank you.â He said gratefully as his eyes met yours.
âYouâre welcome, Yoongi.â You smiled as you made your way back to your bed, tucking yourself in. This time, however, you didnât turn your back to Yoongi.
He did the same, after setting the books on his table. The two of you fell into casual conversation for hours. At first, it just seemed as if neither of you were tired enough to fall asleep, but after a while it became evident that you were fighting sleep to keep talking.
You told Yoongi about your parents and how you ended up in Seoul in the first place. He listened to everything with intent, and when it was his turn to tell his story, you extended the same courtesy. Despite the bickering that frequently occurred between you two, Yoongi was becoming a source of comfort. You hadnât realized how safe you felt while sharing a room with him.
Although he had a hard exterior, you could see the softness within him, and you were sure that heâd been such a gentle soul before all of this. As the conversations slowed down, the two of you drifted in and out of sleep, and your nightmares consumed your mind once again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
âDo you have everything?â You turned to look at Hobi who was standing in the doorway waiting for you. You did a final look around the room, trying to figure out if you were forgetting anything important.
âI think so.â You told him as you walked towards him, your bag in one hand and your rifle in the other.
âI guess weâre ready then.â He said before you made your way outside to meet the others.
The sun hadnât fully risen yet, causing the sky to have an orange glow. Everyone agreed to leave as early as possible, the last thing you needed was to get stuck driving in the dark.
âY/N, do you want to ride with us?â Jin asked you as he loaded bags into the trunk of his car.
âSure. Whoâs got the first shift?â You asked as you handed him your bag.
âIâll go first. Weâre going to follow Yoongi since Namjoon has the map and is riding with him.â He told you, causing you to nod.
You climbed into the backseat beside Hobi as Jin and Jungkook sat in the front. You glanced at the house one last time as Jin drove off, following behind Yoongi and the others.
âYou all should try to sleep while you can, we may be on the road for a while.â Jin stated.
âWay ahead of you, Hyung.â Jungkook said as he rested his head against the window with his jacket covering his face, causing you to giggle.
Your head rested against Hobiâs shoulder, and your arm wrapped around his. You subconsciously fidgeted with the scrunchie around his wrist while you watched the buildings pass by through the window.
âAre you not tired?â Hobi whispered.
You shook your head gently before looking up to meet his gaze. You hadnât realized how close your faces were to each other as your tired eyes held contact with his own. His face hovered slightly above yours, causing the hairs on the back of your neck to stand. Was he getting closer or were you just extremely exhausted?
You both jumped slightly as Jungkookâs loud snoring began taking place of the silence within the car.
âHeâs like a baby I swear.â Jin groaned. You laughed awkwardly as you looked down at your hands that rested against Hobiâs.
âWell, there goes our chances of getting any rest.â He lightheartedly joked, attempting to cut through the building tension between you two.
âItâs ok. Weâll just make him drive next.â You laughed, causing Hobi to smile.
Your head found solace on his shoulder once against as his rested against yours. After a few moments, you could hear his breaths slow a bit, indicating that heâd fallen asleep. You decided that youâd attempt to do the same, closing your eyes and hoping that your mind would give you a break from the nightmares.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You sat up when the car jerked gently as it came to a complete stop. You began looking through the windows, noticing that you were surrounded by trees.
âJungkookie, itâs time to switch places.â Jin said as he shook the sleeping man gently, causing him to groan as he removed the jacket covered his face.
âHow long have we been driving?â You asked.
âItâs been about three and a half hours. If anyone wants to get out and stretch, you should do it now.â Jin said.
âIâve gotta piss.â Hobi said as he stepped out of the car.
âMe too.â Jungkook followed. Shortly, you were the only one left sitting in the car.
âDo you want to get out for a minute, Y/N?â Jin asked as he peeked his head through the door.
âYeah. Actually, I need to go too.â You admitted as you got out.
You began scoping out the area to find a spot that was somewhat hidden. You noticed a small opening in between a couple of trees, and it seemed relatively covered.
âWhere are you going, Y/N-ah?â Tae asked as he saw you stepping away from the group.
âI need to pee. Iâll be right back.â You told him.
âOk, just be careful.â He cautioned, causing you to nod.
You walked for a bit, wanting to make sure that no one could see you. You werenât really worried about the guys trying to peek, but you still wanted as much privacy as possible.
You quickly did your business and cleaned up as much as possible. As you started to make your way back, a deep growl caused you to freeze in your tracks. You slowly turned around to face the cause of the sound, mentally cursing as you saw a large, skinny dog staring you down.
Heâs starving. You thought. He probably hadnât eaten in weeks, and you knew that it was only a matter of time before the animals went back to their natural instincts.
Fuck me. You thought as you slowly searched your pockets, realizing that you hadnât brought any sort of weapon with you. You slowly began backing away, hoping that the dog would back down. That was wishful thinking though, and before you knew it, youâd been knocked to the ground as the dog sank his teeth into your side, shaking his head violently.
The only thing you could think to do was scream and hope that the others would help you. You attempted to shove the dog off of you, but with each push, his teeth sank deeper causing you to scream louder.
âFuck, Y/N!â You heard someone yell. Youâd lost a lot of blood and began drifting in and out of consciousness.
You werenât entirely sure what was happening anymore, you just knew that you heard what sounded like a gunshot and multiple, panicked voices speaking over you. Your eyes fluttered open for a moment and you realized that you were being carried by Hobi.
âHobi I-â you weakly whispered before falling unconscious again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The booming sound of loud thunder shook you awake, causing you to attempt to sit up. A sharp pain shot through your body, causing you to whine and lay back down.
âHyung, sheâs awake!â You heard Jiminâs voice call. You turned your head to see Jimin, Hobi, and Tae all running towards you.
âHow are you feeling?â Hobi asked sweetly as he carefully knelt down beside you.â
âMy body hurts.â You began, attempting to look around as you couldnât recognize your surroundings. âWhere are we?â
âItâs a barn.â Tae answered, causing you to give him a confused look. âWe drove for miles until we came across it. It looked like itâd been abandoned, and we just needed somewhere to stop so we could help you.â
âJin and I were able to stop the bleeding, but you wouldnât wake up. I was so scared, Y/N. I thought I lost you.â Hobi choked as he squeezed your hand gently. You attempted to reach up to touch his face, letting out a painful moan as the sharp pain happened again.
âDonât try to move, Y/N. Just rest.â Jimin urged. You carefully interlaced your fingers with Hobiâs.
âYou canât lose me, Hobi. I still have your bracelet.â You smiled weakly, trying to cheer him up.
He let out a bit of a forced laugh as he nodded his head, eyes fixed on your torso which was now wrapped in some sort of cloth.
âHey, where are the others?â You asked once it hit you that four of your friends were missing.
âThey went to go look for some medical supplies. You could easily get an infection if we donât find something to treat the wound with.â Jimin told you.
âHow long have they been gone?â
âA couple of hours. They should be back soon though.â He said, causing you to nod.
Silence filled the room as we waited for the others. Hobi gently traced circles on the back of your hand with his thumb while Jimin and Taehyung kept watch at the front of the barn.
âIâm sorry.â Hobi whispered, causing you to look up at him. He avoided eye contact though, eyes still glued to your torso.
âSorry for what, Hobi? This isnât your fault.â
âI shouldâve gone with you. I couldâve protected you and none of this wouldâve happened.â
âDonât say that.â You told him as you squeezed his hand, causing him to look at you. âI fucked up the minute I walked into the woods without my gun. None of this is on you, Hobi. Besides, I wasnât going to let you watch me take a piss.â You joked, causing him to smile weakly.
âThe moment I heard you scream, it felt like the world stopped and I immediately imagined the worst. I donât know what I wouldâve done if it wasnât a dog that had bitten you, Y/N. Iâd never forgive myself.â He admitted. You hated that he felt this way, that he blamed himself for what happened.
âHey, Iâm still in one piece. You donât have to think about all of that. Iâll be okay, Hobi.â
âI donât want to lose you.â He bit his lip as a tear fell from his eyes. You slowly brought his hand to your chest, doing your best to hide the amount of pain you were in.
âMy heart is still beating, Hobi. Iâm still here and Iâm not going anywhere.â You reassured him.
âTheyâre back!â Jiminâs voice caused the two of you to guide your attention to the men walking in.
âHoly fuck, sheâs awake!â Jungkook exclaimed as he ran over to you.
âItâs good to see you.â You smiled as the others made their way over to you.
âWe found some painkillers and things to clean the wound. Is it bad?â Jin asked, referring to your pain.
âOnly when I move.â You admitted.
âThe bite was pretty deep, but we were able to stop the bleeding. So, thatâs a good sign. We do need to clean it though.â Namjoon said.
You simply nodded as you did your best to prepare yourself for what was coming. Jin gently removed the blood-soaked cloth from around your torso and tossed it to the side as he and Namjoon began readying the medical supplies.
âHere.â Yoongi said as he handed you some pain meds and a rolled-up shirt. âItâs to bite down on. Youâre going to need it.â He added, pointing to the shirt.
You nodded in response and quickly swallowed the pills before letting out a shaky breath.
âWe may need to hold you down, Y/N. This isnât going to be easy.â Jin admitted as he gave you a look of pity.
âI know. Do what you need to.â You told him.
Hobi kept his hold on your hand, offering it for you to squeeze as he kept your arm close to him. Yoongi pressed gently on your shoulders, preparing to pin you down if he needed to. Jungkook held your legs tightly to prevent you from kicking. Tae and Jimin stood to the side, ready to step in if they were needed. Namjoon sat beside Jin to assist him with the process.
âReady?â Jin asked as he held a bottle of alcohol in his hand. You werenât ready in the slightest, but it needed to happen one way or another. So, despite your fear, you nodded anyways.
Soon enough, your muffled screams began filling the room as the cold alcohol soaked your wound. Jin moved as quickly as he could while the others kept you in place. As you felt yourself go numb, your cries began to fade, and everyone released their holds on you.
âItâs done, Y/N.â Namjoon said, slightly above a whisper.
âNo more dogs.â You joked as you let out a deep sigh.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Everyone sat around for a while, trying to decide whether you should stay here for the night or get back on the road, as you waited for the storm to pass. Hobi helped you sit up with your back rested against his chest for support.
âShe needs to rest.â Yoongi stated.
âIâll be fine. We should keep going.â You responded.
âY/N, itâs not safe.â He sighed.
âNowhere is safe, Yoongi. Isnât that why we decided to leave in the first place?â You questioned.
âSheâs right. We should keep going.â Namjoon said.
âI can drive first for our group. Youâre all probably exhausted.â You offered.
âYouâre not driving.â Hobi stated, much to your surprise.
âWhat, why not?â You questioned.
âIâm not going to have you passing out on us.â
âIt only happened once.â You mumbled as you rolled your eyes.
You understood his concerns, but that didnât stop the irritation. You felt as if you were being a burden on the group, and all you wanted to do was carry your weight, even if it was excruciating to do so at the moment.
âOne time is too many, Y/N.â He told you with a hint of frustration in his tone.
âItâs fine, Y/N. Just focus on getting better.â Jungkook told you. You were too tired to argue. So, you simply nodded in response.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You rested your head against the window as you watched the trees pass by once again. It was getting dark, and you couldnât help but wonder if you hadnât gotten hurt, would you all have found your new home already?
You couldnât tell how long the car had been moving at this point. Your head was feeling fuzzy, and you started feeling cold. All you wanted to do was crawl into a warm bed sleep for days. The pain meds were starting to wear off and the slight shake of the car wasnât helping.
âHoseok?â Yoongi called over the radio, causing you to sit up a bit.
âYeah?â He responded.
âIt looks like thereâs a house up ahead. Weâre going to pull over and check it out.â Yoongi told him.
Hobi pulled into the driveway, behind Yoongiâs car, before stepping out for a few minutes to speak to the other group. They stood outside for a minute before looking for a way inside the house, leaving you with Jin and Jungkook.
âShould we go with them?â You asked.
âNo. Theyâll call if they need us. Weâll just be on lookout until they get back.â Jungkook said.
The exterior of the house resembled a cabin and was a bit smaller than the one you were previously in. The driveway was long and there were trees surrounding it. You honestly werenât sure how the others saw it in the first place, it was pretty hidden. You were distracted from your thoughts as Hobi opened your door.
âCome on.â He said as he helped you step out.
âWas it empty?â You asked, as you held onto him, trying to ignore the pain.
âIt is now.â He stated simply, causing you to look up at him with concern. âThere was a zombie. Yoongi and Tae are dragging it out.â He told you, noticing the worried look on your face.
As you two walked in, you began looking around the house. The inside felt smaller than it originally looked, but you werenât sure if that was just because there were so many of you.
âThereâs two bedrooms upstairs and two downstairs. Y/N, you can have one of the ones downstairs, so you donât have to walk as much.â Namjoon stated.
âAm I not sharing a room with anyone?â You asked, a bit confused.
âThereâs only one bed in each room. You can have one to yourself and one of us will take the couch.â He told you.
You were at the point where you didnât really mind if you had to share a bed with someone. You appreciated their thoughtfulness and continuous efforts to make you feel comfortable, but you truthfully didnât want to sleep alone. It seemed silly after everything that has happened, but you were still afraid of being alone again.
âI donât mind sharing with someone as long as theyâre ok with it. Thereâs no reason for someone to sleep on the couch if they donât have to.â You said.
After a brief discussion, it was decided that youâd share a room with Hobi since you âknewâ him the best. You werenât really surprised by the decision. Especially not when he was so insistent on it.
You let out a sigh of relief as you laid in the bed, facing the ceiling. You turned to Hobi who was also lying on his back beside you.
âHow are you feeling?â He asked, as his eyes met yours.
Like shit. You thought but abstained from admitting that.
âTired.â You answered with a yawn.
âAre you in pain?â
âA little bit. I think itâll be better tomorrow.â You lied, hoping he wouldnât persist forward. Much to your satisfaction, he nodded and set his sights on the ceiling.
âThereâs a garden in the backyard. I think weâre going to look for seeds to plant.â He spoke.
âThatâd be nice.â You told him. The possibility of being able to grow your own food was exciting, but there was no guarantee that itâd happen. You hoped for the best regardless.
âGet some rest, Y/N.â He said as he noticed you fighting to keep your eyes open.
âGoodnight, Hobi.â You hummed before slowly drifting off to sleep, as the nightmares began to play on repeat, just like before.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You woke up covered in a pool of your own sweat and feeling as if the room was spinning. You looked to your side, only to realize Hobi wasnât there. You slowly lifted the blankets to look at your inflamed wound. It looked as if it had become infected as a thick, clear substance oozed out of it.
You cried as you attempted to sit up. Pain flowing throughout your entire body as your torso throbbed intensely. You stood up weakly, as your legs shook beneath you. Feeling as if they were about to give out. Slowly, you put one foot in front of the other, losing your balance and falling to the floor. The sound mustâve alerted Hobi, because soon enough he was running into the room.
âWhat happened?â He frantically asked, trying to help you up before you pushed him off.
âPlease donât touch me, Hobi!â You cried. The feeling of his hands on you made you feel as if your skin was on fire.
âJin!â Hobi yelled a few times, trying to wake the others. It didnât take too long though, and within a couple of minutes, everyone was running to your room.
âShit, she has fever.â Jin stated, as he tried to look at your wound. He received the same treatment as Hobi. Getting pushed off as you continued to cry in pain.
âY/N, please. I need to see if itâs infected.â Jin pleaded. You looked up at him with worried eyes. âIâll be gentle, I promise.â
You allowed him to check your wound, and he kept his promise, remaining as gentle as he possibly could.
âFuck. Itâs infected.â He stated as he looked at the others behind him.
âThis is bad. What are we going to do?â Jungkook asked through an anxious tone.
âShe needs antibiotics. She could die if we donât get this under control.â Yoongi said.
âSheâs not going to die!â Hobi yelled, still crouched down beside you. Being as careful as possible as to not touch you.
âShe will if the infection spreads, Hoseok!â Yoongi yelled back.
âYoongiâs right, Hoseok. If we donât get her some proper medication, then the infection will spread.â Namjoon reasoned.
âThen we need to find something.â Hobi argued.
âPlease, stop yelling.â You groaned. The sound was starting to give you a headache.
âIâm sorry, Y/N.â Hobi whispered.
âThere has to be a pharmacy somewhere. Right?â Taehyung asked.
âWhere, Taehyung? We donât even know where we are. We could be hours away from a pharmacy.â Jimin stated, now starting to panic as well.
âWill everyone just please calm down!â Namjoon said through a loud tone.
As much as you hated the sound, it worked. Everyone stopped arguing and looked to Namjoon for answers. No one knew what was going to happen to you if they couldnât get antibiotics in time.
âIf there isnât a pharmacy nearby, there has to be a hospital or a doctorâs office. That would be our best bet.â He stated.
âA hospital is too dangerous.â You muttered.
âItâs a risk weâll have to take.â Namjoon said.
âWe drove for hours and didnât see anything. How can we be certain weâll find something?â Jungkook asked.
âWe should all go.â Taehyung suggested, causing everyone to direct their attention to him. âLook, we donât know how long itâll take and by the time we find what weâre looking for, the infection could already be spreading. The sooner Y/N takes the antibiotics, the better.â He continued.
âFucking fine with me. Come on, Y/N. Letâs get you up.â Hobi quickly stated, attempting to put his arms around you.
âWill you please calm down?â You asked him, gently swatting his hands away. âIs everyone fine with coming, or does anyone want to stay here?â
âI never unpacked. So, Iâm fine with going.â Jimin stated.
âYeah, me too.â Jungkook added.
As you looked around at the men surrounding you, it was evident that they were all willing to pick up and leave again if it meant saving your life.
âThen itâs settled. Letâs grab our bags quickly. Jin, help Hobi get Y/N in the car.â Namjoon said.
Everyone dispersed to gather their things and prepare to leave again as Jin and Hobi helped you to stand.
âIâve got her. Grab her bags.â Jin told Hobi, who wore a look of hesitation before nodding.
âHow are you feeling?â He asked, causing you to look up at him with a look of confusion.
âNever better.â You said, causing him to chuckle at your sarcasm.
âNo, I mean mentally, how are you?â He rephrased.
âIâm tired, Jin.â You admitted. He didnât say a word in response. Opting to nod in understanding.
Once he was sure that you were secure in the backseat of his car, he stared down at you for a moment as his hands rested on the door.
âYou know youâre going to be okay, right? Weâre going to take care of you.â He said softly.
âI know, Jin. Thatâs not what Iâm worried about.â
âThen what is it?â He asked with a raised eyebrow.
âIâm worried that if something does happen to me, that Hobi would blame himself for it. I know he made a promise to me, but Iâm afraid that heâs going to get himself killed in the process of trying to fulfill it.â You told him.
âI wonât let that happen. None of us will. Youâre one of us now, Y/N. Weâre all going to make it through this.â His tone was soft, but you could see the sincerity in his eyes.
âThank you, Jin.â You said. He gave you a confirming nod before shutting the door gently and entering the drivers side.
Shortly after, Hobi and Jungkook took their seats in the car and we were off. The air felt heavy, but you were unsure if it was due to the burning sensation flooding your body. With every bump in the road, you winced lightly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jin had been driving for about an hour, yet the scenery hadnât changed much. You were still surrounded by trees and the sun was finally starting to rise. You couldnât help but think about your parents. If there was a chance that they were still alive, are they happy? If they were dead, did they die peacefully? The thoughts lingered incessantly. It made you want to hit your head against the window repeatedly in an attempt to get the images to leave your mind.
The sound of static pulled you from your thoughts, Yoongiâs voice coming through the other end.
âHyung, we have to stop.â He said, causing everyone to sit up.
âWhy? Whatâs wrong?â Jin asked, pulling to the side of the road.
âWeâve run out of gas. We canât go any further.â He said as he parked in front of you.
âFucking hell.â Jin groaned as he rested his head on the steering wheel.
As you attempted to pull yourself up to look over your shoulder, you realized just how low the gas gauge was in this car as well. You guys could probably drive for a couple more miles, but it wouldnât matter. Youâd run out of gas soon enough too.
âWeâre going to have to walk.â Jin muttered, looking at you in the rear view mirror.
âShe canât walk in her condition.â Jungkook spoke.
âItâs okay. Iâll be fine.â You reassured the men in the car.
You werenât too keen on walking, but you had no other choice. It was either wait here for the infection to spread and die or die trying to stop it. Either way, you mentally prepared yourself for the journey.
Namjoon knocked on Jinâs window as the others approached the car.
âWeâre going to have to continue on foot.â He spoke.
âI know. Weâre almost out of gas too.â Jin sighed.
âY/N, how are you doing?â Namjoon asked.
âIâll be okay. Donât worry about me.â You said weakly.
âLetâs only take what we need. If we find gas, weâll come back for the cars.â
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You did your best to keep up a good pace, but you were still slowly trailing behind the others as Hobi allowed you to hold on to his arm in order to remain steady. The group had to leave a lot behind. Only splitting as much food and water that you could fit in each of your bags.
âWait!â Namjoon raised his hand as he stopped walking, signaling everyone else to come to a halt.
âWhat is it?â Tae asked quietly.
âLook up there.â Namjoon pointed to the road ahead of us that was on a hill.
You did your best to focus on what he was looking at, squinting as the sun shone directly in your eyes. Your breath hitched as you realized what it was.
There was a massive hoard of zombies ahead. There had to be hundreds of them, all walking towards you. As you began looking around, you realized that they werenât just ahead of your group, but all around you. Coming out from the trees as if they were waiting for the right time to strike.
âGuys, we need to run!â You urged, making the others aware of the impending danger that you were all in.
Everyone began running in the opposite direction, unsure of where to go. The zombies were catching up and there was nowhere around to hide. You cried as you lost your grip on Hobiâs arm, falling to the ground harshly.
âY/N!â He called, as he realized you were no longer beside him.
âIâve got her. Just go!â Yoongiâs voice yelled from behind you. âPut your arms around me.â He instructed and you quickly did as you were told as he picked you up, bridal style, and began running.
You couldnât help but look over his shoulder, panicking as you realized how close they were now and how far away the rest of the boys had gotten.
âYoongi, you need to let go of me. Iâm slowing you down.â You told him.
âShut up, Y/N.â He growled through deep breaths.
You reached over his shoulder and began digging through his bag, trying to find his gun. Once you felt the cold metal, you quickly pulled it out and turned off the safety before firing at the zombies closest behind you. The unsteadiness of your body as you shook in Yoongiâs arms made firing a sure shot nearly impossible, but it slowed a few of them down. As you turned back around, you realized that the others were no longer in sight, and there was a smaller group of zombies coming from the right side of the road.
âFuck, Yoongi turn left!â You yelled.
He carried you into an opening in the woods, not stopping until you were both sure that youâd gotten away. You were now in the middle of the woods, tall trees surrounding you. Yoongi gently set you down on the ground with your back against a tree as he fell to his knees, attempting to catch his breath.
As he looked up at you, the two of you shared a knowing look. You had gotten separated from your group, and neither of you knew where you were. You were alone now.
âWhat are we going to do?â You asked through a whisper as tears formed in your eyes.
He stared at you for a moment before sighing and snickering lowly as he shook his head.
âWeâre going to find a pharmacy.â
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
âYoongi, please slow down.â You pleaded to the man in front of you as he walked with haste.
âWeâre running out of time, Y/N.â He stated, not breaking his stride.
âWeâve been walking for hours and weâre still in the middle of the fucking woods.â You sighed as you rolled your eyes.
He didnât respond. Instead, he continued to walk as if he were on a mission, not slowing down at all. You were holding onto a branch that you were using to help support your weight. You stopped moving for a moment, trying to catch your breath as you glanced down at your wound. It now looked worse than before.
Yoongi stopped and turned to face you once he no longer heard your slow steps trailing behind him. He sighed deeply as he made his way back over to you, extending his hand for you to take.
âWe canât stop now, Y/N.â He said with a soft tone, but the urgency was evident.
âCan we just take a small break?â You begged. âJust for a moment?â
He pinched the bridge of his nose before nodding. âJust for a minute.â He agreed, helping you sit down on the ground.
He began digging through his bag, pulling out a bottle of water and holding it in front of you.
âTake it.â He said simply.
âAre you not going to have any?â You asked as you took the bottle from his hand and twisted the cap.
âNo. Iâm not thirsty.â He said, but you could tell he was lying.
âJust drink a bit, Yoongi.â
âIâm fine, Y/N. You need it. You look like shit.â He said bluntly causing you to snort at his honesty.
âYou should see yourself.â You smirked.
Your food and water were now extremely limited. Hobi still had your bag and the only supplies that were available were the ones that Yoongi had.
âDo you think theyâre okay?â You asked, referring to the rest of the group.
âI do. They have each other.â He spoke.
âDo you think theyâre looking for us?â
âI donât know, Y/N.â He said slightly above a whisper as he traced patterns in the dirt with a stick.
You sighed as you thought about your friends. They were all probably worried sick, but who knows what they encountered after you got separated. It might not even be safe for them to come looking for the two of you at this point.
âCome on. Minutes up.â Yoongi said as he stood up, dusting himself off, and reaching out to help you up.
âCan you chill with the speed walking this time?â
âNo can do, princess. Canât have you dying on me.â He said, causing you to roll your eyes at the nickname.
âKeep calling me nicknames and I may start to think that youâve got a thing for me, Yoongi.â You said sarcastically, causing him to laugh.
âThen youâd be focusing on the wrong thing. Quit stalling. Letâs go.â He spoke.
âI wasnât stalling.â You muttered.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The two of you began walking once again. Trekking forward in hopes of finding something, anything at all. You felt yourself getting weaker with each step. You were falling apart and as much as you hated to admit it, Yoongi was right. You didnât have much time left.
Itâs moments like these where you wish that you could go back in time and do things differently. You never wouldâve gotten bitten by that dog because you wouldâve taken a weapon with you. The group wouldâve never had to leave the house, and everyone would still be together. Regrets felt pointless, but they stuck with you, nonetheless.
âI think I see something.â Yoongi spoke lowly.
Through the trees, you could see the outline of a large building.
âYeah, I see it too.â You told him as you stood by his side.
âCome on.â He said, as he helped support your weight by wrapping his arm around your shoulder.
As the two of you approached the building, you couldnât help the uneasy feeling that was building in your chest. It was a small hospital. Some of the windows on the lower floors were boarded up and some of the doors had chains on the handles. Someone wanted the building to be secure. Someone had to be in there.
âYoongi, I donât like this.â You admitted.
âWeâll be okay. We have to go in.â He attempted to comfort.
You quickly moved his arm from around your shoulder and stopped walking, causing him to face you with a confused expression. There was a hint of annoyance in his eyes, but you didnât care. This didnât feel right at all.
âWhat the fuck are you doing, Y/N?â He questioned.
âLook at the windows and doors.â You began, motioning to the building.
âWhat about them?â He asked. He was either completely oblivious to the strangeness of it all or he simply didnât care. You assumed that it was the latter.
âTheyâre secured, Yoongi. Someone has to be in there.â You told him, frustration laced in your tone.
âSo?â
âSo, what if thereâs another group in there?â You challenged.
âThen weâll take care of it. Why are you so worried about this?â His annoyance was much more evident now as his patience was wearing thin.
âOh, donât act fucking dense, Yoongi. We have one gun. One, and itâs just the two of us.â You told him.
âDonât insult my intelligence, Y/N.â
âThen donât act fucking stupid, Yoongi.â You snapped back.
The two of you stared at each other in silence for a moment. Neither wanting to back down. You understood that Yoongi was trying to save your life, but you needed him to understand that making impulsive decisions wasnât going to do that.
âIâm trying to help you.â He whispered as he broke eye contact, now staring down at your torso.
You slowly reached up and cupped his face in your hands, causing him to look at you once again.
âI know, Yoongi, but if we donât do this right then weâre both going to die. Please, just think about this.â You pleaded in a low tone.
âIâll sneak in.â
âIâm going with you.â
âY/N, you can barely walk. Iâll sneak in and take what we need. Iâll be in and out.â He spoke as if it were a foolproof plan.
âAnd what am I supposed to do? Just sit here and hope that you come back. No, Iâm going with you.â You stated sternly.
âDo you always have to be so stubborn?â He groaned.
âIâm not being stubborn, Yoongi. Iâm just thinking clearly. Iâm not going to let you get yourself killed in an attempt to save my life.â
âYou would do the same if you were in my position. Donât try and act like you wouldnât.â
You mentally cursed him out in your head. Not because he was just spewing absolute nonsense, but because he was right. Youâd risk your life to save any of the boys but allowing them to do the same felt wrong. You owed them so much. Keeping them alive was a necessity, not an option.
âYouâre right. I would do the same, but Iâm begging you to stop fighting me on this. Iâm coming with you.â
The sound of one of the doors opening caused you both to freeze. Yoongi pulled you down as the two of you stared at the door, briefly glancing at the other in concern. A man with a rifle around his shoulder walked out and looked around for a moment before lighting a cigarette. He was standing directly by the door.
You looked at Yoongi in hopes that he was thinking what you were thinking. Based on the look in his eyes, it was evident that you were on the same page.
âThatâs our way in.â He whispered.
You wondered if the two of you could somehow overpower the man, but you knew that itâd be too risky. Youâre not able to move as fast as you usually would, and Yoongi canât overpower him alone.
Almost on cue, a zombie approached from in between the trees. It hadnât spotted you, but the man on guard spotted it. He quickly put out his cigarette and pulled out a knife from his back pocket as he made his way over to it.
âDonât make a sound. Letâs go. Quickly.â Yoongi said as he kept a firm hold on your wrist.
The man tackled the zombie who was putting up a good fight, before implanting his knife into its skull. Luckily, his knife got stuck and it gave the two of you enough time to sneak past him as the growls of another zombie kept the man busy enough not to notice you.
As the two of you walked into the building, the air was cold. Eerily enough, it still held the sterile smell that youâd expect from a hospital. The white walls made the hallway seem infinite. It was strangely quiet, apart from the footsteps that you could hear approaching from the other end of the hallway.
Shit.
Without a second thought, you quickly grabbed Yoongiâs arm and pulled him into the nearby room before shutting the door quietly. The footsteps continued to approach, and you could hear the sound of whistling.
Yoongi readied his gun and stood by the door, preparing for the worst. Soon enough, you heard the sound of two men engaging in conversation and you could only assume that one of them was the man from outside. They stood directly outside of the door for a moment, cracking jokes with each other. You subconsciously held your breath, feeling as if itâd give away your position.
A few minutes later, the men began walking away. Neither you nor Yoongi moved a muscle until the sound of their footsteps faded.
âFuck.â You breathed out.
âY/N?â Yoongi whispered.
âWhat?â You responded, looking at the man beside you.
âLook.â He said simply, pointing to the wall before him.
You almost couldnât believe it. Was it really that easy? It appeared that the room you pulled Yoongi into happened to be a storage room. A storage room with various medications occupying the shelves. Most of them remained untouched.
Yoongi quickly began scanning the shelves, searching for the antibiotics that you needed. He let out a satisfied laugh once he found what he was looking for before grabbing multiple bottles and placing them into his backpack.
You were so taken aback that you hadnât even noticed that the men from earlier came back down the hallway. So filled with hope that you hadnât realized that theyâd opened the door to the storage room. You didnât even know that the man holding the rifle had connected the end of it with the back of your head as hard as he could. All you knew was that in the matter of seconds, everything went dark.
