Authors note: this one is a bit of a doozy lol. Reader just cannot catch a break 😔 (I know it’s my fault but it builds character lmao). There’s quite a bit of foreshadowing thrown in here so I’d love to hear y’all’s theories 🙊. Let me know what y’all think about this chapter, and as always, feel free to reblog if you like it! ~Mackie 💜

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's now been two days since you met Hobi and his friends, and today you were going to help them look for supplies. You couldn't quite comprehend why you’d volunteered to go out. You didn't have nearly as much experience as they did when it came to dealing with the zombies. Yeah, maybe it was easier to face them when you were part of a group, but you had been alone up until now.
You had the basic knowledge of how to deal with them, but no amount of preparation or intelligence could take away the overwhelming reality of the current state of the world. The truth is, nothing is guaranteed. There are no promises that could be made in regard to someone’s safety, they’d all be empty.
The harsh reality is that at any given moment, one of us could turn into a monster. Whether it happens because you’ve been bitten and are now infected, or you simply give in to the darkness inside of you. Either way, becoming something that you don’t want to become seems somewhat inevitable at this point.
You already felt it from the moment this mess began. You saw it when you fired a bullet directly into a zombie’s head to save Hobi. Sure, zombies were just a shell of the person that they once were, but they were still a person at some point. A human being with thoughts, feelings, goals, and aspirations. Someone who was loved by others and loved those people right back. You couldn’t help but wonder if the only difference between zombies and those who were still alive was as simple as a heartbeat.
There was no time to reconsider the solidity of your moral compass. The boys took you in and you needed to help them. Fresh water and a warm meal was somewhat unheard of these days, but that didn’t stop them from doing what they could for you.
You dressed yourself in a pair of jeans, along with a long sleeved shirt and boots before tying your hair up into a ponytail and sliding on a black baseball cap. You gave yourself one final look over before grabbing your gun and heading downstairs. Everyone else was already down there, standing in the dining room. Everyone’s bags were laid out on the dining table along with various weapons. You were greeted by Jimin who was leaning against the countertop.
“Ah, Y/N!” He exclaimed, drawing everyone’s attention towards you, as he motioned for you to stand by him.
“Good morning, everyone.” You greeted as you joined Jimin.
Much to your surprise, Hobi didn’t rush over to greet you as he did the previous morning. Instead, he remained silent as he stood in the corner by Yoongi who also kept quiet as his sight remained glued to the floor.
Great, they’re both upset with me. You thought to yourself. You understood Hobi’s hesitation when it came to you deciding to join them on a supply run. I mean, you were going in a smaller group opposite of his, and according to his statement to Taehyung the other day, he promised himself that he’d protect you. Yoongi, however, was a mystery. One that you were sure you’d figure out one day, but today was not that day.
“Are you ready?” Namjoon asked as he walked over to you, handing you your bag.
“I’m ready.” You said between a deep breath.
“Each group has a radio, including myself. They’re long range so team one and team two will be able to alert each other in case they need help. I won’t be able to hear you all once you pass the halfway point.” He said, referring to the location in between each team’s destination and the house. “Keep your gun in your back pocket but avoid using it if you don't have to. You don’t want to alert more zombies than you need to. I placed a miniature hatchet in your bag, use that if you can.” He finished as you nodded in response.
“We’ll be taking mine and Yoongi’s cars this time, so let’s try to get as much as we can.” Jin added.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You all made your way outside and began loading up the separate vehicles. You were in the middle of sorting through your bag, pulling out the hatchet to have it prepared when you felt a hand on your shoulder. You turned around and were met with Hobi’s kind eyes.

“Hi.” He said softly with a weak smile.

“Hey. Listen, I know that you want me stay back but-“ you began but were interrupted as Hobi gently held up your arm, taking off the bracelet on his wrist and placing it on yours. “What’s this?” You asked as you began examining it. It was purple and twine-like with beads that spelled out “hope” in the middle.

“This is my favorite bracelet. I never take it off.” He stated simply, as he kept a gentle hold on your wrist.

“So, why are you giving it to me?” You asked, a bit bewildered.

“Because it’s my favorite, which means that you have no choice but to be safe and make it back home so you can return it to me.” He said sweetly, causing you to reach up to wrap your arms around his neck.

“I promise to give it back to you.” You whispered as you pulled away to look at him. He didn’t try to stop you from going. Didn’t try to argue with you about it. As much as he didn’t like it, he respected your decision and accepted it as your own to make.

“We should get going. Be safe out there, Y/N.”

“You be safe too, Hobi.” You told him before climbing into the backseat. Yoongi entered the driver's side with Jimin in the passenger. You all gave Namjoon a final wave before pulling off, following behind Jin’s car.

The car ride was silent. Even Jimin, who was typically a ball of energy, kept quiet. It seemed like everyone was nervous about the trip and you couldn’t help but wonder if it was the same for the other group.

“Namjoon Hyung, we’ve made it to the halfway point.” Jimin spoke into the radio, letting Namjoon know that we would no longer be in contact with him.

Your anxiety arose slightly as the car in front of you made a left while your car made a right. This was it. No going back now. Yoongi drove for a few more minutes before the car came to a stop.

“Fuck.” He said, causing you to look out of the front window. The rest of the path was blocked off by a row of cars.

“What should we do?” Jimin asked as he looked at Yoongi.

“There’s no way for us to drive through. We’re going to have to walk. We aren’t too far away from the shop.” He groaned as he began pulling the car to the side of the road before parking. “Radio the other team, let them know that we’re continuing on foot.”

Jimin did as he was told, letting Jin know that our path was blocked and that the only way we’d get through is by walking.

“Alright, we need to move carefully. I don’t know if those cars were placed there in an attempt to keep zombies out or people. Either way, we stay alert and don’t draw any attention to ourselves.” Yoongi said as he glanced at both you and Jimin.

You hadn’t considered that the barrier might’ve been created to prevent people from getting through. The fact that some people were still alive was new to you.

“What do you mean, could there be another group here?” You asked him.

“I don’t know. Hopefully we don’t find out.” He stated simply. You turned your attention to Jimin who seemed as anxious as you were.

“We’ll be okay.” Jimin said and you weren’t sure if he was trying to reassure you or himself. Either way, it wasn’t very convincing.

You all made your way out of the car, weapons in hand as you began making your journey. Yoongi led the way with Jimin behind and you following. Slowing down as you all came across a sign hanging from a traffic light reading “TURN BACK”.

“Let’s keep moving.” Yoongi whispered.

As you reached your destination, you all found yourselves staring at the entrance. The doors and windows were all locked and none of you wanted to risk breaking them as it’d alert anything around you.

“Let’s check the rear entrance.” You said, as you began circling the building with the others trailing behind you. The back door was locked as well but you noticed a window to the right side of it that was ajar. It wasn’t excessively high up, but there’s no way that you all could climb through on your own.

“One of us could climb in through here and open the door for the others.” You stated as you turned to face the two behind you.

“Jimin-ah, lift me up. I’ll let you both in.” Yoongi said as he began taking his backpack off.

“No, I can do it.” You said, handing your bag to Yoongi.

“Y/N, are you sure that’s a good idea?” Jimin asked you with a hint of hesitation in his tone.

“She’s not going. We have no clue what’s waiting for us on the other side.” Yoongi stated sternly.

“I wasn’t asking for permission. What makes you think that you can tell me what I can and can’t do?” You argued.

“I’m the one leading this goddamn team.” He snapped back.

“Well, I’m the only one with a gun, Yoongi. And correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure that I’m the only one who knows how to use one.” You refuted as you looked at the both of them.

Yoongi sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. You were right and he knew it. You were the only one within your group who could fire a guaranteed shot. “Hoseok’s going to fucking kill me.” He groaned.

“Y/N, get on my shoulders and see if anything is in there.” Jimin told you, doing his best to cut through the tension. You nodded as you carefully climbed onto his shoulders as Yoongi kept a hand on your back to keep you from falling.

You attempted to open the window more, stopping abruptly and cringing a bit as you heard it begin to squeak. The wind started to pick up, allowing the scent of the room to air out. You began smelling the familiar stench of a rotting corpse, causing you to gag a bit as you covered your nose with your sleeve. It was then that you noticed the amount of dried blood all over the floor and walls.

There were some hidden corners in the room, and you were unsure if a zombie or another person could be occupying them. You were taken from your thoughts as you heard a light growl. You turned your attention to the sound, breath catching in your lungs as you saw it. Out of the shadows, a zombie appeared. It was a male and he looked young, probably in his early twenties.

As he got closer, you saw something that you were sure would never leave your mind. His eyes were gone, almost as if they’d been perfectly gouged from his head. It was clear that he hadn’t done it to himself, as you noticed that his wrists had been zip tied together and a sign hung from his neck reading “TRAITOR”.

As he dragged his feet across the floor, it became evident that he couldn’t see you. You looked down at Yoongi who was watching you with a concerned expression, as he saw how uneasy you looked. You said nothing, however. Instead, you raised a finger to your lips, signaling him to remain silent. Namjoon’s words lingered in your mind, reminding you not to use your gun unless you absolutely had to.

You carefully began crawling through the window, attempting to remain as quiet as possible. There was a desk directly below the window with papers and cans scattered around it. Your movements remained slow as you entered the other side, doing your best not to knock anything over in the process. Luckily, you succeeded but now you were wondering how you’d get down without knocking anything over.

You crouched down and placed your hands on the table for support. You managed to guide your feet to the floor and readied yourself, gripping the hatchet in your hand tightly. You took small steps to the creature who was swaying side to side. You felt a hint of guilt as your eyes remained fixed on his hollow, bloody sockets.

“I’m sorry.” You whispered, causing the creature to open his mouth and let out a deep groan. You cut him off as your hatchet made connection with his skull, landing right in the middle. He remained still for a moment, mouth still hanging open before he began to fall. You carefully guided his lifeless body to the floor, refusing to let him go until he was completely flat. You didn’t know if anything else was roaming around here, and the last thing you needed was a loud thud giving away your position.

You released a shaky breath that you hadn’t realized you’d been holding as you looked at him. He died twice. You thought to yourself. You didn’t know who he was or what he did, but you knew that he didn’t deserve to die that way. It was unclear if he was bitten before he’d been tortured or after. Either way, he didn’t pass away peacefully. He was murdered brutally.

You shook your head as you tried to push away those thoughts, guiding your attention back to the task at hand. You turned to the door, carefully pushing it open to allow the two men to enter. Jimin’s eyes met yours and he quickly came to check on you. It wasn’t until that moment that you realized you’d been crying.

“Holy fuck.” Yoongi whispered causing Jimin to turn his attention to whatever Yoongi was looking at.

“How could someone do that?” Jimin said, now understanding why you were so upset.

“It doesn’t matter. He can rest now. C'mon, let’s get what we need and get out of here.” You said in an emotionless tone as you began wiping your tears.

“She’s right, Jimin. Let’s go.” Yoongi’s tone was a bit different than it had been before. His words were soft, but there was a hint of sadness coating them. Maybe he was going through the same thought process as you were. You turned to face him. The look he gave you was one of empathy, and he offered you a reassuring nod that you reciprocated.

Yoongi began leading the way once again, cautiously stepping out of the room as Jimin followed. You stopped in the doorway, turning to face the corpse once again. “I hope you’re at peace.” You whispered before following the other two.

You all searched around for supplies, finding various canned goods and some drinks as well. You grabbed some hygienic products that you found scattered along the floor before continuing your search. You paused as you came across some books. You looked around to make sure that the others weren’t watching you before directing your attention back to them.

You weren’t sure what it was, but something within you felt the need to make amends with Yoongi. Sure, he was being a bit of an asshole earlier, but we were all just trying to do our best to survive. You thought for a moment before grabbing a couple of them to give to Yoongi once you all made it back home, placing them in the front pocket of your bag. You began looking for more supplies again, finding more cans of food hidden underneath one of the shelves.

You stretched your arm out as you tried to reach all of them, your hands brushing against something small and flat. You laughed lightly as you inspected the item. It was a chocolate bar, still wrapped perfectly. You began searching for a date to make sure it was still good, letting out a satisfied hum when you saw that it wasn’t expired yet. You placed it in your bag next to Yoongi’s books. You figured you could give it to Hobi when you returned his bracelet to him.

Once you all were certain that you’d properly cleaned out the shop, you began making your way back to the car.

“We made it!” Jimin said buoyantly as you all climbed into your seats.

You were relieved to say the least, but you still couldn’t shake that image from your mind. You’ve seen zombies before and you knew that each of them had a story, but this was the first time that you’d witnessed something so intense.

“I’m going to check on the others.” Yoongi said as he reached for the radio.

“Seokjin Hyung?” Yoongi spoke into the device.

“Yeah, are you all alright?” Jin responded rather quickly.

“We’re okay. We’re heading back now. Are you guys almost done?” Yoongi asked.

“We’ve just left. See you soon.” Jin said.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The drive back wasn’t nearly as silent as before, but the energy was still lackluster.
“I think we should tell the others about what we saw. We don’t know if the people who did that are still out there.” Yoongi stated. You didn’t want to relive that experience, but you understood where he was coming from. So, you agreed, as did Jimin. If someone could do something like that to someone they knew, then what would they do to complete strangers?
As you approached the house, you saw Namjoon and the others unloading the first car. They all turned their direction to your group, waving and offering big smiles. You barely had time to step out of the car before Hobi ran up to you, embracing you in a tight hug which you reciprocated.
“You made it!” He said brightly.
“I promised you I would.” You laughed.
“I missed you.” He said as he pulled away, keeping his hands on your shoulders.
“I missed you too, Hobi. Actually, I got you something.” You told him. You turned to grab your bag and opened the front pocket to redeem the chocolate bar before handing it to him. “I only found one, so don’t let the others see.” You whispered.
“You should keep it for yourself then!” He said with wide eyes as he tried to give it back to you, causing you to cross your arms.
“Nope, I got it for you. Someone so sweet should have something sweet.” You said, causing him to smile bigger than he already was. You weren’t sure how it was even possible, but you enjoyed the view, nonetheless.
“Thank you, Y/N! Let’s split it.” He insisted.
“Whatever you want, Hobi.” You agreed, motioning for him to hide it as the others began walking up to you, greeting you with warm smiles.
They were happy to see you, and you were just as happy to see them. You didn’t know them well at all, but you still found yourself comforted by their presence.
After everyone unloaded their bags onto the dining table, the boys began looking through everything. Seokjin’s team had a great haul, also finding various canned goods and drinks along with a few snacks like chips and protein bars that were still good. You managed to sneak upstairs to hide the books you grabbed for Yoongi. You placed them in the bedside table along with your gun before heading back downstairs.
All of the items had been put away into the cabinets and everyone was sitting at the table, chatting away as Namjoon finished plating the food he’d made for us. Just like the previous day, you sat in between Hobi and Jimin. Namjoon passed out bowls of soup to everyone. No one’s bowls were completely full as we needed to make sure things lasted as long as possible.
Everyone began talking amongst each other and this time you allowed yourself to join them. You felt as if you were getting to know them better as they told you about their lives’ when everything was normal, and you told them about yours. Jungkook told you about all of his tattoos, and you two joked about getting matching ones when all of this ended. If all of this ended.
You realized that you’d never given Hobi back his bracelet, and it seemed like he forgot to ask for it back.
“Here, I forgot to give this back to you.” You said softly, holding the piece of jewelry in your hand for him to take.
“You keep it.” He told you.
“But it’s your favorite.”
“It is, but I want you to hold onto it for a bit longer. Think of it as your lucky charm.”
You thought for a moment as you put the bracelet back on. You wanted to give him something in return. Something that would inspire him to stay safe at all costs, because he knew that he’d need to return it to you at some point. It felt like a lightbulb turned on when you realized that your hair was still in a ponytail, and you were still wearing your hat.
“Choose.” You told him, holding both your hat and your scrunchie in each hand. He began tapping his finger against his chin in an animated manner.
“How about this? It’s basically the same thing.” He said as he pointed to your scrunchie, causing you to laugh a bit as you slid the item onto his wrist.
“There, now we both have lucky charms.”
Everyone finished their meals, but we all remained at the table. Far too engrossed in our conversations to be bothered with getting up from our seats.
“Everyone-“ Yoongi spoke loudly, drawing everyone’s attention. “Jimin, Y/N, and I witnessed something during our trip that we think you all should know about.” He finished. You and Jimin shared an uncomfortable look with each other. Neither of you wanted to talk about it, but you knew that it needed to be done.
“What happened?” Namjoon asked inquisitively.
You guys told them everything. About the cars, the sign in the road, the zombie. Every weird thing that you witnessed. You made sure to avoid mentioning the fact that you entered the building on your own, knowing that Hobi would be pissed at Yoongi and Jimin for allowing it. They didn’t express it, but they noticed what you were doing, and they were grateful for it.
“That’s awful.” Tae said as he sighed deeply at the end of the story.
“You guys didn’t see anyone around?” Jin asked.
“No, we didn’t. We weren’t sure if they’d left or if they were dead now too.” You told him.
“I’m just glad that you all made it back safely.” Jungkook stated.
“This isn’t good. There’s no telling how long that guy had been there.” Namjoon said, somewhat stating the obvious. Although, we were all thinking the same thing.
“What should we do? I mean, if they’re still alive and they’re still around, what’s to say we won’t run into them?” Jin asked.
“Maybe we should consider moving?” Hobi suggested.
It was an uncomfortable thing to think about, but this was the reality you all were faced with. The people who killed that man could still be alive and for all you knew, they could still be in the area. No one could say how many there were of them. We couldn’t just take a risk and assume that we’d be fine.
“It’s something to think about. We’ve talked about going somewhere else when we couldn’t find any more supplies, but we never planned for something like this.” Namjoon said.
You all remained silent for a moment as everyone began weighing out the options, not that there was a lot to begin with.
“Y/N, I need something from you.” Namjoon said, causing you to sit up and give him your full attention.
“What is it?” You asked.
“I need you to teach us all how to shoot.” He stated, causing everyone to turn to you.
“I can do that. We need to find somewhere that we can practice without making too much noise.” You told them.
“I agree. I know we were trying to avoid making two trips this week, but we’re going to need more guns. Ideally, everyone would be armed.” Namjoon said.
“There’s a shooting range not too far from here. I think that they sold rifles as well for hunting.” Yoongi stated.
“We can start searching there. Maybe we can find some suppressors as well, it’d make training a lot easier." You responded.
“It’s settled. I’ll go with you and everyone else will stay here.” Namjoon stated.
“Shouldn’t half of us go? I can come too. It’s dangerous for both of you to go alone.” Hobi asked.
“It is dangerous, which is exactly why you all need to stay here. A group is too noticeable. I’m not sending Y/N out by herself, and I don’t know enough about guns. Besides, I stayed back today.” Namjoon told him.
“We’ll be ok. Maybe you guys could try securing the house a bit more? It would give us some extra protection until we decide where we’re going.” You stated to everyone, but you were mainly speaking to Hobi in an attempt to calm his nerves.
“We still have a few hours of daylight left. We can go now.” You told Namjoon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Everyone who was hanging back remained at the table, discussing ways that they could secure the house. You ran upstairs to grab your things and headed back down.

“Here.” Yoongi said as he placed his car keys in your hand. “Namjoon doesn’t have a lot of experience driving. You can take my car. It has more gas in it than Jin’s.” He continued.

“Thank you.” You said as you placed the keys in your pocket.

“It’s no problem. Just don’t wreck it.” He lightheartedly joked.

“Oh, I’m going to drive it into the nearest tree.” You said sarcastically, causing him to roll his eyes but you could see the smirk that he was trying to hide.

“Are you ready?” Namjoon asked as he grabbed his bag.

“Yep, let’s go.” You told him before quickly making your way over to Hobi. “We’ll be back before you know it.” You whispered to him, trying not to interrupt the others who were still talking.

“I know you will. We still have a chocolate bar to split.” He said, causing you to let out a small laugh.

Yoongi wasn’t lying when he said that the range wasn’t far. It took less than 10 minutes to get there, which was relieving. You felt as if you and Namjoon could grab what you needed without much trouble. As you parked the car across the street from the store, you couldn’t help the confusion building inside of you. The windows were still intact, seeming as if no one had attempted to get in.

“Don’t you think it’s weird that no one’s broken in?” You asked as you turned to face Namjoon.

“A little bit. I think that they may have protective glass. Maybe that’s why?” He suggested.

“I guess that could be it. How in the hell are we supposed to get in then?”

“We’ll just have to scope out the area. I can try to pick the lock if I need to.” He said, causing you to nod.

As you both made your way to the store entrance, you began looking through the windows in search of any zombies or people, just as Jimin had instructed you to do earlier in the day. Everything seemed perfectly intact. No guns were missing from the walls behind the counter. There was no indication that someone had gone in and trashed the place, it all looked untouched.

“I’m going to check around the back. Maybe there’s an entry point there.” You told Namjoon as he began fumbling with the lock, letting out a low hum in response.

As you began circling the building you felt as if you were repeating your steps, just at a different store. You knew that history tended to repeat itself, but you’d hoped that it wouldn’t happen to you within the same day.

Once you reached the back of the building, you paused for moment and peeked around the corner as you noticed a truck parked in the back. Your intuition seemed to be screaming at you. Sure, there were tons of abandoned cars everywhere, but something in you made you feel as if that one still belonged to someone.

You quickly made your way to the front of the range to let Namjoon know what you saw, but you froze as you reached your destination. The door hung wide open with no sign of the man you came here with. He could’ve easily gotten in on his own, but you knew that he wouldn’t have just left you. You took a deep breath before readying your gun as you snuck into the building.

You carefully peeked around each corner as you began heading down the hallway. You slowed down a bit as you heard sounds of a struggle and a voice that belonged to your friend.

“Get the fuck off of me!” He yelled.

“No, not until you tell me why you’re here. Are you alone?” You heard another man’s voice tell him.

“For fucks sake I was looking for a gun and I’m by myself.” Namjoon said. He wasn’t going to let this random man know that you were with him.

You peeked around the corner with caution, the man’s back was facing you as he had Namjoon pinned the floor with a knife to his neck. You slowly creeped up behind him, putting the gun to his head and clicking it.

“Drop your weapon and get off of him.” You said sternly, hoping that he couldn’t sense the shaking of your hands.

The man did as he was told, dropping the knife beside him and standing up with his hands raised. He attempted to turn around to face you, but you pressed the gun harder against him, causing him to stop with a flinch.

“Don’t fucking move unless I say so!” You yelled as you began pushing him, directing him to stand against the wall. You glanced at Namjoon who was trying to catch his breath as he stood up.

“Go find something to tie him up with.” You told him, cocking your head to the side as to guide him.

“L-look, I’m sorry. I wasn’t going to hurt him. I just wanted to know who he was.” The man stuttered.

“Don’t lie to me.” You told him.

“We can work this out! You guys can take whatever you need, and we’ll go on about our days.” He pleaded.

“Something tells me that it won’t be that simple.” You told him.

“I found some rope.” Namjoon said as he sprinted back into the room.

“Put your hands behind your back.” You instructed the man, who did as he was told.

“Tie him up.” You directed Namjoon as you kept the gun pressed to the man’s head.

Namjoon quickly did as you instructed him to do, unsure of what the end plan was. To be honest, you didn’t know either. You were just trying to find a way to keep the two of you safe without having to injure the man.

“Here.” You whispered as you carefully guided Namjoon's right hand to take the place of yours holding the gun. “Keep an eye on him. If he moves, pull the trigger.” You finished, making sure to state the last sentence loud enough for the man to hear.

Once you were sure that Namjoon was in a good position, you quickly grabbed both of your bags and made your way to the front of the store to fill them up. You grabbed everything that you could including bullets, handguns, suppressors, and the two hunting rifles that were hanging on the wall.

You began loading one of the rifles that was hanging by its strap on your shoulder and headed back to Namjoon. The man was babbling on about any and everything in an attempt to persuade the two of you to release him.

“You won’t get away with this!” He cried. “My friends will come looking for me.”

“Listen to me-“ you said, cutting him off. “We are going to leave and you aren’t going to try and stop us. I’m not going to kill you, but I promise you that if you or any of your friends try to find us, I will not hesitate. I will kill each and every one of you. Do you understand me?” You growled.

“Y-yes. I understand.” He whined.

“Good. Get down on your knees, do not turn around.” You instructed, as you handed Namjoon back his bag.

Once the man was on the floor, you began backing out of the room with Namjoon following you. You quickly closed the door and grabbed a chair, placing it underneath the doorknob before hastily returning to the car and speeding off.

“Shit!” Namjoon breathed.

You didn’t respond. Too focused on the road and checking your mirrors to make sure that you weren’t being followed.

“You saved my life, Y/N. Thank you.” Namjoon expressed gratefully.

“You don’t need to thank me. You would’ve done the same.” You breathed, slowly relaxing a bit when you were a good distance away from the building.

“I know, but still. I wouldn’t have made it out of there if it weren’t for you.”

“Do you think he was being honest about his friends?” You questioned as his words replayed in your mind.

Namjoon signed deeply before responding. Shaking his head lightly. “I don’t know.” He admitted as he turned to face you.

You simply nodded as you bit your lip and attempted to fight the tears that were burning your eyes. You knew that you did what you needed to do. The man would’ve killed the both of you had you not threatened him, but there was still a sense of guilt as you felt your humanity fading.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The two of you walked through the front door, finally relaxing a bit. The others were quick to try and greet you, but you remained silent as you looked at all of the faces around you. Smiles slowly fading as they saw the distressed look on both yours and Namjoon’s faces.
“What’s wrong?” Jungkook asked, eyes bouncing between you and the man stood beside you.
“We ran into another survivor.” Namjoon stated.
You weren’t even sure how it happened, but everyone ended up in the living room. Eyes glued to Namjoon as he told them what happened. You, however, weren’t listening. Instead, you sat on the floor with your legs crossed as you began looking through the bags and loaded each of the guns. It wasn’t until a voice called your name that you looked up. Everyone was staring at you in disbelief.
“Y/N?” Taehyung called out softly. “Are you alright?” He asked, his tone laced with concern.
“I’m fine.“ A lie. “I promise.“ Another lie. Without another word, you returned your attention to the weapons laid in front of you.
“We don’t have much time. I don’t know if that guy was being honest or not, but I don’t want to wait around to find out. Y/N will teach us how to use the guns and we’ll prepare to move.” Namjoon announced.
That’s two lives you’ve saved. Two lives within the span of two days. You weren’t sure what was happening to you, but it seemed as if by the snap of a finger, something changed. You no longer felt guilty. You no longer felt afraid.
Looking at the men around you, the ones you were so grateful for, you felt nothing except determination. Not a single person or thing would come between you and your friends. Each and every single one of you would make it through, together.
Don't Fear The Reaper
It had been almost a year since your brother’s death and you still couldn’t believe it was real. His bedroom door had been practically sealed shut, neither you nor your father daring to venture inside. The sight of his empty room getting dusty would have just made it that much more real - something the both of you didn’t need as the constant news coverage had done enough of that job already.
It wasn’t necessarily that you were so distraught over Seowon’s death that you couldn’t come to terms with it. He was your older brother, your own blood, but that didn’t mean the two of you had been the closest siblings. You would describe your relationship over the years as lukewarm at best. You loved him because he was your brother but you never truly felt like you knew him. It was also hard to mourn with news vans following you everywhere you went.
The part that was hard to believe was the way in which he had died. He had been found in the woods near your house with seventeen stab wounds. It didn’t make any sense. Your brother had been a star football player at your school, part of the popular crowd. He was well-liked amongst students and teachers. You didn’t think anyone had a bad opinion of him. It’s possible he had rivals especially in sports or romances but nothing that would warrant murder.
Initially, there had been a lot of speculation in the town and you had heard all the rumors, including the one where your father had killed him in a fit of rage. You knew it could never be true; your father had been devastated by your brother’s death. He had been emotionless before, but now he was just a shell of the man he was. And whoever said loss could bring people closer had obviously never met your father.
The truth was that your father had always been emotionally closed for as long as you had known him. Your mother had died from complications after your birth and though he had never voiced it, you knew that he had resented you for being the cause of your mother’s death. At times, you wished you had never been born because living with the guilt had been too much to bear especially living with a father who never forgave you for it.
When the police eventually did find a suspect, you were shocked to say the least. Min Yoongi was a few years older than you and had already graduated when the murder weapon as well as your brother’s blood on his clothing was found. He had always been a serious guy and if you asked most people, they would say they had always believed he kept skeletons in his closet. You knew he was a bit of a recluse, but you never would have guessed he was capable of murder. The motive they came up with was that Yoongi had been jealous of your brother’s popularity and mixed with his own mental instability, things inevitably came to a day and he decided to act out his aggressions.
Many people wanted to know your side of it, whether you believed the story and whatnot. You had mostly stayed silent on the matter, unlike your father who had screamed at Yoongi in court and had to be dragged out of the room. You can still remember the stares you got from everyone that day - it was the same look you got from most of the town and your classmates. A mix of pity, curiosity, and judgment.
It was safe to say you hadn’t been looking forward to this time of year. The true crime fanatics had seemingly been ramping up their shenanigans, hoping to possibly find some clue that would connect more of the dots. The stares you always felt in town and at school hadn’t lessened and seemed to be picking up a bit more in recent weeks as the anniversary drew closer.
Which is why most nights, you would find yourself holed up in your bedroom where it was calmer. Much to your best friend's dismay, as she would always try to drag you away to some party or school outing. Haena hated it when you closed yourself off and didn’t believe in wallowing alone. In her eyes, it was as if your introvertedness was just a sickness that she had to cure.
The only person who understood your feelings was your boyfriend, Taehyung. He, too, was a bit of a homebody and didn’t mind staying in with you most nights. He did have more friends and liked to party, but he never pressured you to go out. Part of you believed he enjoyed having you all to himself that way and for some reason you didn’t mind it.
You don’t know how you got so lucky getting a boyfriend like Taehyung. He was so dreamy with dark black locks that were often tucked behind his ear and matching dark eyes that seemed to always be on you. He was an artist and could often be found wearing distressed jeans and sweaters with little splotches of paint here and there. He was extremely affectionate, always having to have his hands on you some way or another.
The two of you met in freshman year art class where you had quickly realized you had no business holding a paintbrush, much to Taehyung’s amusement. He would offer to fix up your paintings when the teacher wasn’t looking and was the only reason you ended up passing. It wasn’t until a little after that semester that the two of you started dating.
A low tapping interrupted your thoughts as you sat in bed, almost too quiet to hear over the television playing in your room. You got up to investigate, pulling your curtains open to see none other than Taehyung leaning up against your window using a ladder to get up here. You weren’t even sure if that ladder was yours but you were glad your window didn’t face the street where others could see.
You opened the window as you spluttered in shock, stepping back to allow him room to clamber inside. You held your breath as you kept an ear out to make sure your dad hadn’t heard his nosy arrival, eyes trained on the door like he would bust in any moment.
“What are you doing here?” You hissed once you had regained your composure.
“What, I can’t visit my girlfriend?” Taehyung pouted. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too but if my dad catches you-” “He won’t.” Taehyung cut you off, leveling you with his beautiful dark eyes as he leaned closer to you on the bed. “I’m stealthy.”
You breathed out a sigh, at a loss for words from his sudden close proximity. He reminded you of a tiger the way he stared you down like you were prey. You were so mesmerized by him you had missed him inching closer until you could feel his breath on your lips.
“Tae-” You tried to stop him but he shushed you, pressing his mouth to yours.
Taehyung was your first serious boyfriend and there hadn’t been a single dull moment in your relationship yet. For you, every new experience you had with him had been a thrill. But there was only so many heated makeouts you two could have before you knew he would want to do more. He understood you were inexperienced and was willing to wait but you wondered how much longer before he cracked.
As if on cue, his hand grazed your thigh lightly as if to test the waters. When you didn’t stop him, he grew more confident and raised it until it reached your hip, squeezing gently. You appeared calm on the outside but on the inside, your heart was racing.
He pulled back a bit to look you in the eyes, licking his lips as he smirked. “I can feel your heartbeat.”
Your eyes widened in embarrassment as you quickly sat up, covering your cheeks as you felt them heating. You had hoped it wouldn’t have been so obvious. Why couldn’t you just be normal?
“Still so nervous around me after all this time,” He chuckled wryly, lifting a hand to remove the ones covering your face. His fingers caressed your cheek as he gazed at you. “What can I do to make you more comfortable, baby?”
“I’m sorry.” You breathed, feeling your heart skip at all the intense eye contact. “I just need more time.”
“Don’t be sorry. I told you I would wait.” He gave you a small smile, leaning in to give you another kiss. He brushed a hand through your hair before pulling away and making his way back over to the window.
You watched him begin his descent back down to the ground before an idea popped into your head. You don’t know where the sudden confidence came from but the sight of his retreating back made you want to try something.
“Taehyung,” You called out from the window once he had made it all the way down. He looked back up at you curiously, his eyebrows raised in question. “Something to hold you over for now?”
You didn’t wait for him to reply before you lifted your shirt up, exposing your breasts to him from down below. You waited a few nerve wracking seconds before pulling it back down, giggling nervously as you did.
His look of pure shock made it all worth it, preventing any possible embarrassment from flooding into your system. You could tell your stunt had rendered him speechless for a moment, if the choked sputters coming from him were anything to go by.
“I think you just made it worse.” He finally spoke, his voice deep and chilling. You laughed loudly, moving to shut your window closed.
*****
When you arrived at school the next day, the atmosphere was tenser than usual. You were used to people whispering around you but this was different. People seemed to be more huddled in groups. It was as if there was some unseen sinister presence that had arrived. You weren’t sure if you could just blame it on the seasons changing but there definitely seemed to be a chill in the air this morning.
A hand grabbing your arm on your way through the courtyard startled you, your heart jumping only to see it was just Haena. Her eyes were wide as she squeezed your forearm urgently. You could tell just by her expression that whatever was going on was serious.
“Are you okay?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?” Your confusion was obvious as you watched realization dawn on her.
“You haven’t heard...” She paused as if trying to find the right words, biting her lip unsurely. “YN, some students were murdered last night.”
“What? Who?” The shock spread throughout your body like a numbness, your extremities feeling cold all of the sudden.
“Park Jimin and Yoon Iseul.”
You weren’t sure if any names that could possibly come out of her mouth would not come as a shock but this just floored you. Jimin and Iseul were the school’s power couple. Everyone was in love with them or wanted to be their friend. The correlation between their deaths and your brother’s wasn’t lost on you. Could it be a copycat killer? You didn’t want to think of the alternative - that Yoongi had been wrongfully imprisoned.
“That must be why everyone is acting so strange today.” You mumbled mindlessly, hearing the words coming out of your mouth but not feeling connected with them. “I just saw Iseul yesterday in sixth period.”
“It’s all I’ve been hearing about this morning. How Iseul’s parents came home to the grizzliest scene you can imagine. They said Jimin was tied up and they found Iseul out- '' Her chattering stopped upon seeing the sick look on your face, her lips pressing together as if just now realizing who she was speaking to. You didn’t blame her though - you knew she was just in shock. “Well, you get the gist. Apparently a neighbor saw the killer run out of there wearing some kind of weird ghost mask. Now everyone’s calling them ‘Ghostface.’”
“I don’t understand why this keeps happening.”
At some point in the day, you were called to the principal’s office for questioning. This wasn’t strange, though, as everyone in the entire school was going through the same thing. The police figured their first place to look was at the school, which made sense.
They had asked you simple questions like how well you knew Jimin and Iseul, if you knew if they were in any drama at school, etc. You had answered honestly and as accurately as you could. To be honest, you hadn’t the slightest who could have done something like this. But you could sense the detectives figured you might have some clue as you had been around death before. They looked at you like you had some kind of ghost hanging around you.
You decided that going through your day like you always did was the best shot at getting through it, clinging to any shred of normalcy that you could find. And if that meant having lunch with Haena and her usual friend group, then so be it. The seven of you were sitting outside in the courtyard, the climate having warmed up a bit since this morning.
The boys were goofing off with each other as if nothing was wrong, which in a way comforted you. You needed to act like everything was okay or else you could feel your sanity start to slip. Eyeing Haena, she was chatting with Jungkook while throwing her feet in his lap. He was rubbing her lower calves and you couldn’t help but watch how comfortable they were with each other in public like this.
It gave you the courage to lean back onto Taehyung who was sitting behind you, his warm chest a welcome embrace. He responded by wrapping his arms around your front, not missing a beat as he conversed with Hobi about the quiz they took this morning.
“Did they ask you guys if you liked to hunt?” Hobi asked all of the sudden, the idle chatter dying down as you all knew he was talking about the police interrogations all students had to partake in today.
“Yeah, I just told them I liked to fish.” Jin barked out a laugh.
You wondered out loud, “Why would they ask that?”
“Because their bodies were gutted.” Hobi responded matter-of-factly, turning to Jin with a suspicious look. “Kind of like a fish.”
“Thank you, Hobi.” Taehyung spoke sarcastically and you could practically feel his eye roll from behind you.
“They didn’t ask me about hunting,” Haena frowned in confusion.
“You think a girl could have pulled off a murder like that? Yeah, right.” Jungkook chuckled, wiggling his eyebrows at her in a condescending manner.
Haena scoffed in disgust, pulling her legs off his lap. “That is so sexist of you. Plenty of women become serial killers - look at Aileen Wuornos.”
“She used a gun on her male-only victims. Not exactly the same.”
“Yeah, from what I hear Jimin and Iseul were barely recognizable by the time they found them.” Jungkook informed, seemingly undeterred by Haena’s annoyance. “The fact is that it would take a man to do something like that.”
“How do you gut someone?” Your voice trembled as you voiced the question, your curiosity getting the best of you. Taehyung tightened his arms around you and leaned his head on your neck, leaving a kiss there.
It was silent for a moment before Jungkook spoke up, “Well, you’d get a knife and start from the groin-”
“Jungkook, shut the fuck up.” Taehyung’s harsh tone left no room for argument and even made you tense up a bit.
“Didn’t you date Iseul?” You asked Jungkook.
His eyes lit up for a moment as he chuckled, “Yeah, for like two seconds.”
“Before she dumped him for Jimin!” Hobi chimed in. “Hmm, I wonder how the police would feel if they knew you were her lover scorned.”
“What, you think I killed her?” Jungkook laughed genuinely, shaking his head in disbelief. “I’m sure you would love to see me behind bars but I’m afraid I have an alibi.”
Haena rolled her eyes as Jungkook winked at her, fed up with his immaturity. “If you think I’m going to defend your misogynistic ass, you’re sorely mistaken.”
Jungkook watched her with a pout as she stood up to leave, gathering her books for the next class. “Come on, baby! You know I’m not a killer.”
She ignored him as she walked off, which led to him jumping up and following her to no doubt get back in her good graces. Those two had been on-and-off for a while but you would be lying if you said their shenanigans weren’t entertaining. He was a pig-headed jock and she was an artsy type. They didn’t make any sense but somehow they ended up together.
*****
You went home that day to an empty house and a note on the kitchen table, which both surprised you and somehow didn’t. You were used to your father skipping out on you with no notice but to leave a note? That wasn’t like him.
Got a lead for a job out of town so I’ll be gone for a few days. I’ll try to call but might not have service -Dad
You supposed the message was emotionally detached enough to be from him but you couldn’t help the strange feeling you got from reading it. You knew he probably wouldn’t call or if he did, it would be just to let you know he was staying longer. He knew you didn’t expect much from him and probably preferred it that way. Weirdly enough, you did too.
Exhausted from the day, you threw your bag on the floor and collapsed on the couch. You flipped the TV on and surfed through the channels mindlessly before one with a news headline and familiar face caught your eye. It was a reporter that you recognized almost immediately - Kim Namjoon. He had covered your brother’s case extensively and even wrote a book about it.
“ This small but mighty town has been hit yet again with another gruesome homicide case. Two young teenagers were found brutally murdered in their own home. ” He spoke clearly, his dragon-eyes penetrating you through the TV screen. You had seen them in person and knew how deadly their effect could be. “ Authorities have yet to release any statement but we know now that no arrest has been made and the murderer could strike again. ”
“ Could it be merely just a coincidence that this month is the anniversary of yet another senseless killing? It has been only ten months since Min Yoongi was found guilty for the murder of Jung Wooshik, who was also a student at Woodsboro High. ” Namjoon continued, and you held your breath as you waited for him to say what you had been fearing. “ Many have made a few theories on what could be the meaning of this, including that of a possible copycat killer or perhaps a wrongful imprisonment. It’s safe to say the town of Woodsboro needs to stay vigilant on protecting its own. ”
You cut him off there, not wanting to hear any more. Namjoon had made it clear early on that he was doubtful of Yoongi being the killer and spent most of his news coverage with that perspective. You tried not to take it personally but there had been instances where it seemed like the reporter blamed you for what happened. You knew you weren’t directly responsible for Yoongi’s conviction but you couldn’t help but wonder if you should feel guilty. You had only told the truth to the judge, that you had seen Yoongi by your house the day your brother died. That your brother had bought some weed from him and that you had seen him leaving while your brother was still alive. What happened between then and when your brother was killed was completely unknown to you.
But your witness testimony along with the physical evidence found in Yoongi’s home and car had been enough to convict him. You can still vividly remember the expression on Yoongi’s face when the verdict was given, as though he hadn’t even heard the judge. You couldn’t help but be amazed at his absolute indifference to everything going on around him at all times. You had never seen him smile or get angry ever. He kept all his emotions inside and it only fueled to make you more unsure of him.
The sound of the phone ringing loudly next to you made you jump, hand laying on your chest to feel your racing heart. You took a deep breath before you answered, “Hello?”
“YN, I just wanted to check on you and make sure you got home okay.” Of course it was just Haena. You knew she worried about you especially when you were home with your father.
“Yeah, I’m okay. My dad’s left town apparently so I’ve got the place to myself.”
“Oh shit, really?” She sounded stunned by this. “Didn’t he hear the news?”
“Not sure. Although knowing him, he might have just wanted to get away from all the media craziness.”
“Do you want to stay at my place?” As if she could sense your hesitance, she continued in a more serious tone, “I know you probably think I’m being dramatic but I just don’t think you should be alone right now.”
“Okay.” You relented, agreeing that it was probably best to not be isolated and vulnerable with a killer on the loose.
You ran upstairs to pack some clothes for the week, unsure of how long you would be staying there. The thought occurred to you that you should probably let Taehyung know where you would be going just in case he tried to make another surprise sneak-in on you again. You picked up your phone and dialed his number. It rang one time before immediately going to voicemail, causing you to pull the phone back and look at it in confusion. It wasn’t like him to outright reject your call, so you tried again. This time it rang all the way through before going to voicemail.
“Huh, that’s weird.” You waited for the automated voice to end and the beep to sound before leaving him a message informing him of where you would be tonight as well as Haena’s home number in case he needed to reach you later.
When you got to Haena’s house a little while later, you weren’t exactly sure why you felt uneasy all of the sudden seeing the police vehicle in her driveway. Her dad was Sheriff Lee and he had always been like a father to you, more so than your own father anyway. But just seeing his car again after so long and knowing he was in there was dredging up old memories that you had tried to forget.
Haena answered the door with a bright grin and pulled you inside excitedly. You already knew you were in for an eventful next few days, especially with her two younger brothers who were always loud and rambunctious. But oddly enough, you found that you enjoyed being around such a loving and busy household because that had never been your home experience.
You were greeted by warm hugs from Mrs. Lee before she quickly sat you down for dinner with a plate full of food. Haena rolled her eyes at her mom’s antics especially when she realized she was not included in this display of special treatment and would have to make her own plate. At some point, Sheriff Lee rolled in and you could tell by the tired lines on his face that this week had taken a toll on him.
He still greeted you with a smile and a pat on the head before joining you all at the table. Mrs. Lee brought her husband a plate and you couldn’t help but watch as he grabbed her hand to give it a kiss. The two of them had always been a sweet couple and what with your lack of ever seeing that growing up, you were always fascinated by them.
“How’s your father doing, YN?” Haena’s father asked.
“Fine,” You answered, rolling a cherry tomato around on your plate with your fork. “He’s actually on a work trip this week so Haena convinced me to come stay here for a little while if that’s okay.”
“You know you’re always welcome here, honey. You’re practically family.” Mrs Lee was quick to reassure you.
“Work trip, huh?” Sheriff Lee’s eyebrows were drawn together as he held a spoonful of stew in front of him thoughtfully. “Did he mention where?”
“Nope. You know how he is,” You answered honestly and he nodded.
Just then, the phone rang and Mrs. Lee got up to go answer it. You were about to go clean your dish when she came back into the kitchen and said, “YN, someone’s on the phone for you.”
You quickly went over to go pick it up, “Hello?”
“YN,” Taehyung’s deep voice came through on the other line, sounding hushed and slightly out-of-breath. “I just got your message.”
“Oh, yeah well I just didn’t want you to go worrying if you called me and I didn’t answer. Haena’s family is taking care of me.”
“Yeah? That’s good.” He responded, and you could practically picture him posted up somewhere like the cool guy he was. “Although, I wish I had answered when you called because I could have kept you company.”
“I’m sure you would have liked that.” You chuckled. “I don’t think my heart can handle another one of your window sneak-ins.”
“Well, I don’t think my heart can handle being away from you that long.”
“You’ll still see me at school.” You reasoned, rolling your eyes despite him not being able to see you.
“Yeah but that’s school. You won’t even let me kiss you unless it’s somewhere hidden.” You could practically hear his pout through the receiver. “Why don’t you meet me at your place sometime this week? I’ll cook you dinner and we can finally be alone together.”
You couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed at his sudden pushiness to get you alone. You knew if you agreed to meet him at your house that he would probably try to have sex with you again. As much as you wanted to take that step with him, you were scared.
“I don’t know if that’s a good idea, what with the recent murders and all. I think it’s probably best to stay in larger groups.”
“What, you don’t think I can protect you? I know I’m skinny but I’m strong.”
“No I know you can but it’s just not a good time right now.”
“Yeah, I know. You haven’t been yourself in a while.” He huffed into the receiver.
You laughed sarcastically, unsure if he was being serious right now. “Yeah, sorry I’m not in the mood to have sex with you right now. I’m kinda still reeling over the deaths of our classmates.”
“I don’t mean recently. You haven’t been the same since Seowon died.” His words shocked you, not understanding where this was coming from all of the sudden.
“Uh, well that’s kind of what loss does to a person if you didn’t know. They change - drastically.” All humor was gone from your tone as you felt yourself getting annoyed with him.
“Yeah well it’s been a year since he died and you’re still so skittish around me. It’s like you think I’m some kind of bad guy.”
“I’m sorry if my trauma has ruined things for you but no one is making you stay with me. If you need it that badly then you-”
“Stop. That’s not what I meant at all.” He huffed angrily, taking a pause to gather his thoughts. “Listen, I don’t want to make you upset. I know it’s hard to see right now but I’m just feeling insecure. I want to make sure we’re still okay.”
At your silence, he let out another sigh. “I’m gonna let you go now. Please don’t be mad at me. I love you.”
He didn’t say anything after that but he stayed on the line, and you knew he was waiting for you to say it back. Hoping for you to say it back. And as pissed off as he had made you, you hated the idea of going to bed mad at him. So you conceded, for now.
“I love you too.”
*****
When you arrived on campus the next day, you spotted Namjoon standing near his usual news van. He was dressed smartly in an olive sweater and gray slacks, his glasses making him look more like a university student than a reporter. He was busy sorting through some papers, probably brushing up on his notes before he did his next broadcast.
You felt compelled to speak with him, especially after everything that had been going on recently. Over the past year, he had reached out to you multiple times for a comment and you always declined. The only time you had spoken in-person was after the court case had ended and it hadn’t been the most cordial moment.
“YN, this is a surprise. What can I do for you?” Namjoon raised his eyebrows at you, a mix of curiosity and something else you couldn’t quite pick up in his expression.
“I wanted to talk to you about Min Yoongi.”
“Okay.” He spoke slowly, glancing over at his camera crew who were standing a few feet away. “I’m guessing this is off the record?”
“Yes, please.” You paused, trying to think on how to start. “I know you probably don’t think very highly of me.”
“What makes you say that?”
“Well, you wrote a whole book on how my witness testimony was the reason an innocent man was imprisoned.”
“Yes. I still stand by that.” He responded honestly, crossing his arms over his chest.
“So what, you think I’m a liar?”
“You painted a picture that made him look like a killer. I think you were so desperate for all the media coverage and court trials to end that you picked him as a scapegoat.”
“Have you talked to Yoongi?”
“Many times. He admits to selling drugs to your brother but that’s all.” The look on his face told you just how in-depth their conversations had gone. Namjoon was a very detail-oriented man.
“Then how do you explain the blood on his clothes and the murder weapon in his home?”
“His roommate testified that he came home high with no blood on his clothes. Someone else planted all that evidence and framed him.” The way he spoke of Yoongi was almost like they were close; he clearly felt very strongly about clearing his name.
“Why are you so adamant on proving his innocence? Did you know him?”
“Why do you care what I think?” Namjoon’s face screwed up as he seemed to grow more irritated with you. This was the real emotion you expected to get from him, behind the friendly facade he tried to put on with you. “You got what you wanted, didn’t you? Yoongi’s life is ruined, he’ll never see the light of day again.”
“That’s not what I wanted.” Now, it was your turn to look confused. “I wanted justice. I told the judge exactly what I saw that day.”
His lips pursed as he thought for a moment, processing your words. “Yes, I knew Yoongi. We weren’t exactly friends but anyone who knew him knew he was harmless. He wouldn’t hurt a fly.”
“Harmless and yet he sold drugs to teenagers?” You regretted it as soon as it came out your mouth. You knew it was a low blow and you didn’t truly care that he did that anyway but you needed to cling onto some semblance that you made the right call.
He hummed as he searched your face for a moment, “Why are you asking me about Yoongi all of the sudden? You’re not so sure anymore, are you?”
“No, Yoongi murdered my brother.” You weren’t even sure if you believed yourself at how weak your voice sounded.
“These murders are related, aren’t they? The killer’s still on the loose.” He sounded almost triumphant as he marveled at your recent revelation, the cogs in his head working on overdrive. You had just confirmed his biggest theory yet despite your best efforts not to.
Now was a good time to leave. You weren’t sure what you had hoped to get out of this interaction but it wasn’t this. You had been avoiding the truth for a long time but it was catching up to you.
“Goodbye, Namjoon. Always a pleasure.” He didn’t respond as he watched you move to leave, his lips moving as he quietly murmured to himself. Despite his dark calculating eyes following your every move, you knew that he was in a different place conjuring up his next news broadcast.
*****
Halfway through the school day, it became apparent that Principal Choi had not shown up nor called in sick. After multiple attempts to reach his home phone, one of the administrators called the police to do a wellness check. And what they had found upon entering his home had been what everyone was fearing.
The news of Principal Choi’s death spread through the school like wildfire and you could tell the staff struggled to hold themselves together while keeping the students organized. A few police officers arrived at the school to work with the administrators on figuring out how to go about letting the students go home.
You were in the library with Haena and Jungkook when a pair of boys came running through your section and drawing the attention of everyone nearby. One was screaming in an exaggerated manner and the other was wearing the infamous Ghostface mask and chasing the former. You could tell they were just playing a prank but you didn’t see how anyone could be making fun of the situation right now.
“What is wrong with people?”
“Are you kidding me? Look at this place, it’s like Halloween.” Jungkook threw his head back and laughed.
“Stupidity leak!” Haena berated him, whacking him in the head with her notebook.
You shook your head at him, deciding to just ignore his comment. “Have you guys seen Taehyung around?”
“You mean after you gave him blue balls? No, his heart’s broken.”
“Jungkook,” Haena elbowed him hard, causing him to grunt.
“He said that?” You were shocked that even Jungkook knew about your lack of a sex life but should have known that boys would talk just like girls did.
“Of course he did. The guy’s crazy about you.”
“What guy’s crazy about her?” Speak of the devil and he shall appear. Taehyung leaned over you from behind to kiss the top of your head, causing your heart to do a flip.
“Keanu Reeves, of course.” You mouthed a ‘thank you’ to Haena at her swift coverup, causing her to give you a wink.
“Hey, can I talk to you for a second?” Taehyung whispered in your ear and held your hand as he pulled you out of your chair. Haena ignored Jungkook trying to get her attention as she watched you follow your boyfriend to a more secluded area.
“I’m really sorry about what I said before - it was way out of line. I’ve been a little out of sorts lately with everything going on.” He sounded vulnerable as he spoke, and you couldn’t help but feel your heart tug at his remorseful face. He had always been the type to wear his heart on his sleeve. “I just want us to be okay again. I want my girlfriend back.”
“I’m still your girlfriend,” You rolled your eyes playfully, squeezing his hand in yours. “But I’m sorry if I’ve made you feel insecure. I know I’ve been acting different for a while and it wasn’t fair to you. I guess I just haven’t been dealing with my trauma very well.”
“That’s not your fault. You don’t need to feel bad about how you grieve.” He reached up to tuck a lock of hair behind your ear, a soft expression on his face.
“I haven’t been grieving at all - that’s the problem. It’s like my emotions have been shut off.” You sighed, shutting your eyes as his hand moved to caress your cheek. “I can’t keep hiding in my room forever. I need to move on.”
When you opened your eyes again, Taehyung was watching you carefully with his mouth pressed shut. You wished you could read his mind. There was more you wanted to say but you found it hard to find the words, so you decided to let your actions speak by leaning forward and kissing him deeply.
You could tell he hadn’t expected you to make the move by the way he froze but he quickly recovered, pulling you closer with his arms settling around your waist. You pressed yourself to him as he leaned against the bookshelf. This was the most hot and heavy you had ever been in public and you could tell he was enjoying it, not wanting to part from you for even a second.
When you did eventually pull away, you felt brave enough to ask, “Will you meet me at my house later?”
You felt him tense up in shock yet again but couldn’t see his face as you were leaning on his chest. You dared to look up and see him looking at you with wide eyes.
“I thought you wanted to stay at Haena’s.”
“I changed my mind.” You shrugged, feeling giddy as his face lit up. “You’ll protect me from any bad guys, right?”
He pulled you in again, wrapping his arms around you tightly and resting his chin on the crown of your head. You had never felt safer.
“I won’t let anything happen to you.”
Taehyung has always been careful and thoughtful about how he treated you. His touches were gentle and soft; you couldn’t imagine him hurting a fly. Maybe it was just his artsy persona but you had always known him to be a deep, considerate person. He was meticulous about every detail, whether it was his art or his life. Sometimes it seemed like he truly believed life was art; a painting that was ever-changing and inspiring.
You were a masterpiece in his eyes. Something to be cherished and never tarnished. That was why he wanted to keep you safe from the evil in the world. He knew that life had already not been fair to you. But he believed it was his job to prevent any further wrongdoings from coming into your life. He wouldn’t hesitate to destroy anyone who would even try to cause you harm.
It was when you were laid out on your bed looking like an angel, Taehyung felt like he was truly going to Hell. Surely God was coming for him because he had stolen an angel and kept her all to himself. You had given yourself up to him and you didn’t know it yet but he would never let you go. How could he?
The only word to describe it was heaven. Having you in his arms like this, touching parts of you his hands had never dared to before - it was pure bliss. He wanted to stay like this forever. There was nothing out there for either of you. Everything you both needed was right here, in each other’s arms.
He had lost count of how many times he made you come undone before he had even entered you. This wasn’t his first time but it may as well have been with the way he struggled to not fall apart almost immediately. You were his weakness and at the same time you were the only thing keeping him together most of the time. He didn’t care how old you both were - you were it for him.
You had always imagined your first time would be like a dream, full of romantic candles and roses. The reality of it was much different, more natural, and yet you found it to be better than you could have ever imagined. You felt like one of Taehyung’s paintings as his lips and fingertips caressed you everywhere, molding you into one of his perfect creations. You were his muse and you had never felt so beautiful.
It was a night of passion and love; the perfect embodiment of your relationship. Whatever rocky period you had been going through before was long gone and you almost couldn’t believe you had ever wanted to delay this. This was where you needed to be. You knew you probably sounded like a naive teenager, but you didn’t want to think of anyone else in this way ever. You only wanted Taehyung.
“I’ll always love you, YN. I’ll never leave you.”
The next day, you were on your way to your locker when you spied Haena waiting for you. You tried to act indifferent to Haena’s wide eyes looking you up and down as you approached her. It was as if she was trying to find some kind of visible evidence on you.
“So?” You knew she wanted to know what happened last night, but you weren’t ready to spill so soon.
“So... what?” You acted ignorant as you opened up your locker, reaching for your math textbook.
“Oh come on, I’m dying here! Spill.”
“Okay, okay.” Laughter bursted out of you, your resolve crumbling before you could even try to build it up. “We, uh... did it.”
“More details, please.” She rolled her eyes at your vagueness.
“It was really sweet. He made us a nice dinner and then we...” You cringed, not knowing how to talk about it without sounding corny. “I don’t know how to describe it.”
“Well, did it hurt? Did you come?” You nodded to both questions honestly and her eyebrows raised as she became more intrigued. “How many times?”
When she saw you counting on your fingers higher and higher, she blew a low whistle. “God damn. Good for you, girl.”
“I feel like he set the bar pretty high. Is it always like this or is he just really talented?”
“Well, it depends. Jungkook is usually pretty good but sometimes he’s too drunk or lazy and then I end up doing most of the work myself.”
You pursed your lips in thought, “Doesn’t he go down on you before?”
Her eyes widened as she opened her mouth in shock, “Can I borrow him?”
You smacked her on the arm as she laughed, linking arms with you as you both made your way to class.
“Oh, by the way, Jungkook’s having a party at his house later.” She mentioned nonchalantly as she popped her gum in her mouth.
“What about curfew?”
She shrugged, “I don’t think they’re being too strict about it. It’s probably safer that we’re all together anyway.”
You still looked convinced, so she added, “But if you’re really worried, we can just stay over at his place. His parents are out of town.”
“Does your dad know?” You glanced at her curiously.
“God, no,” she laughed, shaking her head. “He’s working a night shift so he’ll be busy patrolling. And I’ll just tell my mom we’re staying at yours.”
“Okay. We can go.”
“Yeah?” She looked surprised, a bright smile painting her face. It was infectious as you found yourself smiling back at her and nodding. She bumped shoulders with you, wiggling her eyebrows as she leaned in, “Hmm, I like the new you. She’s fun.”
You were surprised how easy it was for you to agree to the party. Maybe last night gave you more confidence to just live a little. All you knew was the old you would have opted to stay at Haena’s for another night in and you didn’t want to be stuck in your old ways. You owed it to yourself and everyone you loved to move on.
You had foolishly fallen into a sense of false security, not necessarily forgetting about the horrors your town had been cursed with but just for once not having it in the forefront of your mind. You had felt closer to your boyfriend than ever before and now you were ready to be more adventurous. It wasn’t until later in the day did that bubble of excitement pop.
When the classroom door opened to reveal Sheriff Lee, the students around you immediately began whispering to each other conspiringly. You wondered what it could be this time around as he whispered something to the teacher before turning back to face front with a serious expression. Your teacher’s eyes landed on you as she waved her hand, “YN.”
Everyone around you hushed as you gathered your things with shaking hands, making your way to the front of the room quickly. The air out in the hallway felt different, less suffocating. It somewhat helped your rising anxiety.
One look at Sheriff Lee gave you a new perspective of this man who had practically raised you. He wasn’t that old, only early 50s, but the stress he had put under with his profession had aged him. He had tired bags under his eyes, worry lines on his forehead, and sprouting grays here and there. He had always been handsome and you could tell he would continue to age like wine. But that didn’t change how sad it made you to see him in this state.
“YN, I’m afraid I have some bad news. There was a report of a car that wrecked on the side of the road just outside of town.” He spoke slowly as he relayed the information, the consideration from him not lost on you. You were trying to process it all while still not understanding why he was telling you this. “It was your dad’s car.”
Your heart stopped as you clutched your school bag in your hand. Thoughts were going wild in your head as your breathing became erratic. You didn’t know what any of this meant.
“What, um... is he dead?” Your tongue felt disconnected like your brain was just on autopilot.
“No one has seen him yet.” He sighed, a deep frown etched across his features. “I know you said he was leaving for a work trip but have you spoken to him at all since he left?”
He was aware that your father wasn’t known for contacting you at times like these, but you understood he still had to ask. “No. The last time I saw him was the night before he left.”
He nodded as if he expected that, giving you a small smile. “Well, we’ll keep looking. In the meantime, I want you to stay out of your house in case there are any clues to where he could have gone. And it’s probably safer that you’re not alone right now.”
“Okay.”
It seemed like he wanted to say more but clearly was out of his depth when it came to comforting someone. It wasn’t like he could make any promises about finding your dad because the truth was he was most likely gone. You had dealt with enough loss that you knew this feeling well. You gave him a matching small smile, albeit weak but you hoped it would appear encouraging.
“Thank you, Sheriff Lee.”
*****
School ended early that day, mostly due to the fact that half the staff had called out in fear of receiving the same fate as Principal Choi. It was strange that they even had anyone come in at all but you figured the police had already suspected the killer was at the school, thus being their best bet at finding them. Everyone was on edge as if Ghostface was still lurking in its shadows. Which technically, he probably was.
You had already started to go through in your mind which students in your school could have done it. There were a few stronger girls in your class who could have had the physical power to do it, but they were all too nice or non confrontational. There were plenty of bully-like guys that could fit the description, but you had a hard time truly seeing any of your classmates being involved in such gruesome scenes. It’s just that all the victims had one thing in common: the high school. It only made sense that all suspicion would be pointed here.
Eventually, you gave up trying to figure it out because you were only going in circles in your head. The police would figure it out. Tonight was supposed to be fun and you were sure the killer wouldn’t be brave enough to attack a whole group of teenagers. There was strength in numbers and you felt safer this way.
As you and Haena made your way up the driveway, music could be heard blasting from inside. You weren’t even that late but it seems the party was already in full swing. There were a dozen football players and cheerleaders lounging in the main room when you walked in, most of them unknown to you. Haena greeted a few people in the hallway and you followed her into the kitchen as she searched for some refreshments.
“It’s about time you guys showed up,” Jungkook yelled from where he was standing by the snack table.
“I see you guys couldn’t wait to get started,” Haena eyed where Hobi was pouring beer down a funnel into Jin’s mouth.
“Well no one told you guys to arrive fashionably late,” Hobi replied, high-fiving Jin before switching places with him. Haena rolled her eyes, moving on to talk to Jungkook on the other side of the room.
“Hey, have you guys seen Taehyung?” You asked, leaning against the countertop island.
“He was in here earlier. I think he said something about going outside for a smoke,” Jin informed, not taking his eyes off where he was pouring.
You briefly wondered how you had missed him if you had just come from the outside but shrugged it off. He had to be around here somewhere. You ventured out into the main room and plopped down on the couch. The music had been turned down a bit as they were going back and forth trying to decide what movie to watch. For some reason, the genre they had settled on was horror which was in poor taste in your opinion. At least it was entertaining to hear them argue about who usually survives in a horror movie.
A hand on your shoulder startled you, looking up to see Hobi standing there with the telephone. “Phone for you.”
You held in your confusion as you got up to take the call in a quieter area. “Hello?”
“YN, it’s Namjoon.” Of all people who could be calling you, he was probably the last one you would suspect. “Are you guys okay?”
“Yes, why wouldn’t we be?”
“I’m guessing you haven’t heard yet.” He sighed and your heart thudded in your chest, unable to speak as you willed him to continue. “Sheriff Lee’s dead. They found him strung up on one of the field goals in the football field.”
You almost dropped the phone, a stuttered gasp being the only sound you could make for a moment.
“Oh god,” you finally spoke, your hand coming up to cover your mouth. “I think I’m gonna be sick.”
“Is Haena with you?” He asked quickly, trying to distract you.
“Yes.” Swallowing, you covered your other ear as the voices in the main room started getting louder. How were you supposed to tell everyone? You were surprised you were even still standing.
“Stay with her. If I were you, I wouldn’t leave that house. ”
You were still so in shock from the news about your Haena’s father that it suddenly dawned on you that he had figured out where you were without you ever telling him.
“How did you know I was here?”
“Someone reported a large gathering of students at the Jeon house on the scanner. I had a feeling you would be there.” His answer was a shock to you, not expecting anyone to know about the party as it was out on the edge of town.
“O-okay, I better go warn everyone...”
“YN?” You held in your breath as you waited for him to continue, unease crawling into your system at his pause. “Be careful.”
For him to sound so concerned for you only heightened your paranoia, quickly walking back into the main room where everyone was. Jungkook was sprawled out on the couch now along with Jin and Hobi, throwing his head back at something the latter had said. You shakily placed the phone back on the stand.
“Jungkook, I need to talk to you.” You were surprised your voice was so steady, his big eyes meeting yours as he took in your expression.
“Are you okay? You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” He joked, standing up to meet you behind the couch.
“Kim Namjoon just called me,” You felt your stomach flip as you held the back of the couch for support. “Sheriff Lee was murdered.”
You had tried to be discreet about it but your shock must have garnered enough attention, gasps sounding around the room as they all picked up on what you had revealed.
“Holy shit, I’m getting out of here.”
There was a chorus of responses as people started to make themselves scarce, clearly not in the mood for a party anymore. The only ones that stayed were Hobi and Jin, either not concerned enough about the killer or not brave enough to leave the house. You weren’t sure which group you belonged to but you knew you had to find Haena. You looked up at Jungkook, who was staring at the carpet with a serious expression on his face and biting his lip.
“Where’s Haena?” It was like he almost didn’t hear you until you shook his shoulder. “Jungkook?”
“Um, she went to get more beer-” He blinked a few times, waving his arm behind him. “Garage.”
You walked quickly around the house, trying to find the correct door to the garage. When you finally did, it was pitch black save for some light coming in from the opened garage door. You almost turned back as it was clear there was no one in here before something made you stop. There was no noise, no movement but you felt like something was in here.
Your hand sought out the light, switching it on and blinking as it flicked a few times before brightening up the room. Your gaze flitted around, almost giving up before you saw something dark and red that made you flinch backwards.
There was a piercing scream and you felt the ground beneath you move, your ass hitting the wooden step hard. It wasn’t long before thundering steps came behind you, stopping as they hit your back. Your ears, seemingly filled with water with how muted everything seemed, caught a few more gasps and screams. Hands gripped you under your armpits, pulling you up over the steps and back into the hallway.
After that, everything was a blur of commotion. You were vaguely aware of people yelling around you but it wasn’t until Hobi crouched down, waving his hand in front of your face that you felt alert again.
“I think she’s in shock,” He relayed to the others.
“YN?” Taehyung’s voice sounded from the other end of the hallway, his expression bewildered as he approached quickly. “I heard screaming.”
“Jesus, where have you been Tae?” Jin asked.
“Having a smoke,” Hobi moved out of the way so Taehyung could kneel before you, bringing his hands to your cheeks and analyzing your face closely. “What happened? Are you okay?”
“Haena...”
“Go find Jungkook,” Tae instructed the older two.
Hobi groaned, “Why do we have to keep splitting up? This is what the killer wants!”
Jin smacked him behind his head, angling his head towards your shell shocked figure. “Shut up, would you?”
The two of them walked off, bickering quietly as they went. Taehyung sat with you silently as you stayed in the same position, wiping away any tears that escaped. You stared at the floor as your mind raced with a million thoughts, not a single one sticking long enough for you to linger on.
How could this happen so fast? You had just seen Haena in the kitchen talking to Jungkook. Everything was fine. You couldn’t have been gone from her for more than thirty minutes and yet so much had changed. It didn’t make any sense.
First Sheriff Lee, now Haena. The killer was getting closer. No, the killer was already here. It couldn’t have been Jungkook, Hobi, or Jin. They had all been with you.
But...
“Taehyung?” He looked up at you, surprised to hear your voice finally. He leaned in, reaching a hand out to brush your hair back but you shied away. He reared back in shock, his expression confused as he met your suspicious one.
“What?”
“You were... smoking? For thirty minutes?” Your voice was unsure as you questioned him, sounding stuffed up from all the crying.
“Yes, wh-” The sound of screaming from outside interrupted him. You shot up from your spot, running towards the front door where it came from. “Wait, YN! Don’t!”
You ignored him as you threw open the door; you needed to stop any more evil from happening. You had already lost so much in your life. Enough was enough.
The sight of Hobi’s bloody body laying on the front steps had you freezing in your tracks, feeling Taehyung’s chest collide with your back a moment later. The two of you stared in shock before you became aware of the violent tussle happening further out in the yard. It was hard to make it out but it looked like Jungkook and Jin were fighting. What the hell had happened? You were guessing this was Jungkook’s fight-or-flight response to finding out about Haena.
“Stay right here,” Taehyung spoke softly to you as he brushed past you, walking around Hobi’s battered body and approaching the two other boys with a calmness you didn’t quite understand.
The further he went out, the harder it was to make out who was who especially as they moved between bushes and trees. You felt anxious and stupid as you just stood there, your feet itching to move out and help them but not knowing if it was a smart idea.
“YN,” A voice coughed out from below you, a gasp escaping as you fell to your knees where Hobi was laying. You had been so distracted by the fight that you almost forgot he was there.
“What happened?” You asked urgently, grabbing one of his hands and squeezing.
He choked a bit, blood spraying out onto his lips and neck. “Don’t trust them.” He gave your hand one last squeeze, meeting your eyes as if to make the message stronger. You watched in concern as he closed his eyes, chest rising and falling rapidly. He was still alive but he wasn’t doing well. He needed medical care immediately.
“YN! Get inside now!” Your head flew up to see Taehyung underneath Jin, the two of them fighting over something shiny and sharp-looking between them as what looked like Jungkook was passed out next to them.
Your gaze flew back and forth from them to Hobi’s unconscious face, trying to figure out who to believe. You took a deep breath and ran back inside, locking the door behind you as you ran for the phone. You hit redial, hoping it would direct you to Namjoon. You never thought you could ever cry with relief at hearing his voice.
“YN? Are you okay?”
“Namjoon, tell the police the boys must have snapped or something, I don’t know. But Haena’s dead and we need help.” The words flew out of you so fast you weren’t even sure what all you said, hoping you got the message across as you huffed.
The line went silent at that, and you held your breath as you waited for a response. But there was nothing - just dead air.
“Hello? Namjoon?” You tried again, pulling the phone away before you realized the line was dead. Someone had cut the lines. “Shit.”
Just then, a sudden banging could be heard from the front door followed by desperate shouts of your name. You ran over to it, ready to unlock the door when you hesitated with your hand on the lock.
“Who’s there?”
“YN, let me in! Hurry!” The urgency in Jin’s voice made you throw open the door, gasping when you saw him covered in blood with a knife in his hand.
“Jin, what-”
“Don’t let him in, YN! He attacked me!” Jungkook suddenly appeared behind him, a deep cut on his cheek that hadn’t been there before.
You looked between Jungkook and Jin, trying to decipher who to believe but not finding any conclusive evidence. To be honest, when you saw them out in the yard before, it was hard to tell who had even started the fight. And now seeing them both with blood on them, you felt at a loss. All you knew was people were dying and someone had cut the phone lines. You didn’t know who you could trust.
“Fuck, I can’t.” You slammed the door as quickly as you could, locking it again. The banging and shouting continued.
“Help me! He’s gone crazy!”
You stood there for a few moments, palms still on the door as you willed your racing heart to calm down. Tonight had been nonstop crazy and you couldn’t remember the last time it was at a resting rate. Before you could turn around, a pair of hands landed on your shoulders and ruined any chance of your heartbeat slowing down any time soon. You shrieked as you turned around, not expecting to see Taehyung standing behind you.
“Shh, it’s just me.”  He shushed you, putting his hands on your shoulders to calm you down.
“Wh- how did you get in here?” You hadn’t seen him outside just now.
“I came in through the back. Are you okay?” He checked over your body, fingers brushing over the visible skin on your face and arms.
“I’m fine but Tae, where have you been all night?” Your exasperated tone caught him off guard, a somber look coating his features as he regarded you. “I’m getting really freaked out.”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to run off like that. I’ve just been trying to protect you.” His words didn’t make any sense but you weren’t thinking clearly enough to dissect what he meant.
The banging grew louder and Taehyung moved to open it. The roles were reversed this time as you shook your head at him, silently urging him not to let anyone in. Your fingers gripped the sleeve of his sweater anxiously. He turned to look at you, his hand coming up to cover yours on his arm.
“It’s okay. You can trust me.” He nodded at you with a small smile, and you released the breath you didn’t know you were holding.
The door swung open to reveal Jungkook standing there looking out of breath, but his face lit up when he saw you standing there with Taehyung. A grin broke out across his face, “The gang’s all here!”
You could only watch in confusion as Jungkook stepped in in the same move that Taehyung backed you up with him. Jungkook shut the door behind him looking gleeful as ever. You looked at Taehyung who had a serious look on his face but you recognized a glint of something in his eye, almost like he had just won a bet or something.
“What’s going on?” You asked, stepping back cautiously from them. The energy had changed drastically and you didn’t like it one bit.
Taehyung eyed you like you were a scared animal, holding his hands out as if to placate you. His gaze was locked on yours and you almost felt like he could read your thoughts, anticipating your next move before you could even do it.
“Surprise, YN.” Jungkook smirked at you, looking far too elated right now to have just lost his girlfriend.
Your eyes flitted back and forth between the two of them before you spun around, racing toward the kitchen to find something you could defend yourself with. Although you had no proof, you knew it was them. Taehyung and Jungkook were the killers. You didn’t have time to feel heartbroken and betrayed. Your only thought right now was survival.
Before you could get far, arms wrapped around your waist and yanked you back towards a firm chest. You eyed the knife block longingly - so close. Taehyung held you tightly to his front, turning the two of you around so you were backed up against the counter. Jungkook leered from across the room looking like a dangerous predator.
“Why are you doing this?” You cried, hot tears streaming down your face.
“I already told you. I’m protecting you.” Taehyung explained as if it was the most obvious thing.
“By killing all my family and friends? You’re fucking crazy!” Your voice grew louder, unable to feel shy about getting angry despite being caught in a murderer’s arms.
Taehyung was a murder. Your soft, loving, artsy boyfriend was a cold-blooded killer. This was a nightmare; this couldn’t be real.
“Yes, I am crazy, but only for you. I would do anything for you, YN.”
“You’ll never get away with this.”
Jungkook chuckled, “Tell that to Min Yoongi. You wouldn’t believe how easy he was to frame.”
“What did you have against my brother?” There was a lot to unpack here but this was the question you had been wondering for a whole year.
“Your brother wasn’t the picture perfect star quarterback everyone believed him to be. He had a bad habit of date raping girls from other schools, including my cousin.” Taehyung answered for you, the lack of eye contact with him making him hard to read if what he was saying was true.
“You’re lying,” You hissed, trying desperately to break out of his arms.
“Why are you defending him? He was never nice to you.” Jungkook reminded you, his eyes calculating and cold. “Face it, YN. Your brother was a bad apple who got what was coming to him.”
“What do you have to gain from this?”
“Well, naturally, I wanted his spot on the team.” He grinned at you, flashing a perfect set of teeth. “It wasn’t hard for Taehyung to convince me once I realized what a piece of shit he was.”
“And Haena?” You glared at Jungkook. “How could you kill your own girlfriend?”
“I can’t take credit for that,” He nodded towards Taehyung behind you and you felt your body go still. “You saw me. I was here the whole night.”
“Wrong place, wrong time.” Taehyung added, leaning his head on the space between your shoulder and your neck. “But I won’t lie. I hated sharing her with you all the time.”
“You’re okay with him murdering your girlfriend?”
“I liked Haena but she didn’t get me. She didn’t get you either.” Jungkook approached the two of you slowly, dark gaze zeroed in on your anguished expression. He reached out to caress your face, causing you to tense up as Taehyung straightened behind you. “You’re too good for her.”
“Jungkook.” Taehyung’s voice was rough as he motioned with his head towards another part of the kitchen. The two shared some sort of unspoken communication as something dawned on the other boy.
“Oh yeah! We got a surprise for you, YN.” Jungkook’s voice grew louder and more excited as he walked towards the hallway closet door. “You’re gonna love this. It’s a scream, baby.”
It didn’t take him long to retrieve what he was looking for, your eyes almost bulging out of your head as you saw who it was. “Dad!” He was tied up with tape around his mouth and a nasty cut on his forehead.
“See, YN? We got it all figured out, don’t worry.” Jungkook began, pulling the knife from his pants and stuffing it in your dad’s belt. “The cops are already onto him and now the evidence is all over him. Just one more thing to do.”
Leaving you no time to react, Jungkook pulled a gun from behind his pants and aimed it right at your father’s head, shooting him dead. You couldn’t help the scream that tore out of your lungs. You felt cold all over, like your body had disconnected from your brain. Vaguely, you registered Taehyung’s arms holding you steady as your knees buckled.
“He deserved it, YN.” Taehyung spoke so plainly about the murder of your father like it was just a harmless prank he had pulled, “He didn’t appreciate what he had. Deep down, we all know he blamed you for being the one that survived. He never loved you the way a father should.”
The harsh reality of his words hurt. It was like he was looking into your soul, into your deepest darkest feelings that you had tried to keep down for so long.
“We did you a favor.” Jungkook added, his dark stare penetrating you where you stood behind the kitchen island. “And he makes the perfect suspect, triggered by your brothers’ death anniversary, then goes on a killing spree and finally kills himself with the sheriff’s gun. It’s like it was meant to be.”
These two were insane, no doubt about it. They had seen too many scary movies and now they felt like they were invincible. You could practically feel the adrenaline running through Taehyung’s veins.
“And now what? I’m next?”
“Of course not,” Taehyung laughed, switching you around so that he cornered you into the kitchen counter. He leaned in and pressed a kiss to your forehead, ignoring your deep cringe. “This has all been for you, baby.”
“Now, we finish what we started.”
Faster than you could blink, Taehyung swung at Jungkook, causing him to keel over. Red started pooling through the side of his shirt as he coughed into his hand, staining it with blood. You couldn’t believe your eyes.
“Tae, what the fuck?” Jungkook grunted, holding his side as he looked up at Taehyung in shock.
“I changed my mind. I don’t need a sidekick anymore.” Taehyung sneered, a venomous look on his face. “Thanks for all the help, buddy.”
Jungkook fell to the kitchen floor and Taehyung moved on top of him, stabbing him a few more times for good measure. In his bloodlust frenzy, he failed to notice that he had turned his back on you. Not only that, but the gun in Jungkook’s hand was now within reach of you.
You wasted no time in falling to your knees to grab it, quickly standing up and aiming it at the back of his head. Taehyung froze, still not facing you but somehow already figuring out his mistake. It was a foolish move on his part but he wasn’t exactly thinking clearly.
“Don’t move.” You spoke clearly, trying to keep your hand steady.
He didn’t listen to you though, moving slowly and carefully as he got off of Jungkook. He turned around with his hands raised, eyes wide as he stared at you. “YN, don’t do anything you’ll regret.”
“I said don’t move!” You yelled, your fingers trembling. You had never even held a gun before and now here you were aiming it at the love of your life.
“I know you don’t understand right now but you have to know: I did it all for you. So that we could be closer. I never meant to hurt you.” The sight of him inching further set you off, giving you the motivation you needed to pull the trigger.
“Goodbye, Taehyung.” You closed your eyes, not wanting to see the image of the light draining from his eyes.
It was over.
*****
Months later, you were relieved to find that life had seemed to calm down after that horrible night full of evil and bloodshed. You had suffered and lost so many people you loved. Much like a year before, only this time you felt somewhat hopeful for the future. Death couldn’t follow you around anymore like a bad curse; the evil was dead and gone from your life. It was the only thing keeping you going.
That and having a positive influence in your life, like for example Namjoon. He was the first to find you there at the Jeon house after getting your phone call but never receiving your message due to the phones being tampered with. You were lying on the kitchen floor, covered in blood and still in shock over everything. He had been so helpful, urging you to call 911 on his cell phone while he checked to see if Hobi and Jin were still somehow alive - which by some miracle, they were. They had sustained serious injuries and were lucky to be alive, each spending quite some time in the hospital and then physical therapy after that. You visited them almost every day.
It had been hard, dealing with the survivor’s guilt. Losing your entire family, best friend, and boyfriend (even though he had been the cause of it all) had done some serious damage to your mental health. And despite all the therapy you had been receiving and would continue to receive, you knew it would never completely be healed. But that was okay. In your mind, you deserved some kind of scar from the whole ordeal since you hadn’t suffered any physical injuries. Several of your friends were dead or badly hurt - you could deal with it if not for yourself, then for them.
The best part about it was being able to exonerate Yoongi. To finally be able to see some emotion from him on the day the judge ruled him not guilty had been life changing. Yoongi had always been such a calm guy and never blamed you for the year of his life wasted behind bars. You wanted desperately to make it up for him but didn’t know how you possibly could. Namjoon assured you that you had done enough but the guilt never seemed to go away.
Namjoon and you had started to develop more of a friendly relationship, something you had never expected to come out of this. But after all the conflict was gone, it was much easier to see each other’s point of view. And the truth was, he had always been right.
“Got any plans this weekend?” Namjoon asked as he poured some sugar into his coffee before taking a sip.
“Not sure,” you began, taking a breath as you thought it over. “I got invited to an end-of-year party but I’m not sure if I should go. Feels too soon.”
“Oh, you should definitely go. It’s not as soon as you think.” He responded encouragingly, sounding like a big brother.
“I just don’t see what there’s to celebrate about.” You shrugged, meeting his gaze.
“There’s plenty to celebrate! How about surviving a tragic murder spree, exonerating an innocent man, finishing up a school year?” You didn’t look convinced, so he tried again, “Come on, I think it would be good for you to get out. You shouldn’t stay in that big house by yourself all the time.”
“You sound like my therapist.” You rolled your eyes at him, stirring the tea in your cup mindlessly.
“Well, you sound like a petulant child.” He chuckled.
You opened your mouth to retort, eyes flying up to look at him when something in the distance caught your eye. Your body felt cold, frozen up as you stared at the familiar figure. Dark black mop of hair covered his face, baggy sweater and jeans on his frame. You blinked a few times but he didn’t move at all. It didn’t make any sense.
“YN? What is it?” Namjoon waved a hand in your face, distracting you from whatever it was you just saw.
“Huh?” You asked, blinking at Namjoon before glancing back at where he stood before. Only now, there was nobody in sight. You cleared your throat as your gaze fell back on the man before you, “Uh, nothing.”
“You looked like you saw a ghost.” He laughed, eyebrows furrowing at you in a concerned manner.
“Yeah, right.” You shook your head. There was no such thing.
I’ll always love you, YN. I’ll never leave you.
“y/n, stop moving! You’re going to make the tent fall over!”
You rolled your eyes at the dramatic way Taehyung had called that out, hands remaining in the steady grip on the tent they’d maintained the whole time you’d been helping him.
“You’re the one moving the tent, idiot,” you snorted, grinning when he sent you an affronted look. “Also I know we’re a good few miles from the town at the bottom of this mountain but that doesn’t mean you can be so loud, jesus.”
Taehyung beamed at you, nimble fingers making quick work of straightening the pole he had to slip inside the tent to keep it upright. “On the contrary,” he said, chocolate hair sticking to his forehead slightly from the light sweat he’d managed to work up while setting up tents. “I pitched this whole idea just so I could have somewhere to be as loud as I want for a week.”
His words made you laugh, since that very much sounded like something he’d actually do. In the apartment building you’d both managed to nab a unit in, you with another girl who attended your university and him with Yoongi, he wasn’t allowed to be very loud at all— and even then he struggled to keep quiet, if the numerous noise complaints he’d received were anything to go by. You wondered if there was anyone on his floor or the one above and below that hadn’t complained about his yelling when he played online games with his friends.
ᯓ ᡣ𐭩
Jungkook thinks he never felt that much pain in his whole entire life. It’s like his soul is screaming from the inside out, as if someone stabbed him in the stomach, tearing his guts apart.
Oh, but that’s actually what happened…
How can he still be alive? He swears he was dead seconds ago, losing liters of blood through the cut in his stomach. But he’s very much conscious right now, getting out of the woods he was brutally murdered in. Well, is it still murder if he survived?
It doesn’t really matter anymore anyway. All he can think about at this moment is how hungry he is. He would devour anything he can eat, and god, why does the person on the other side of the pavement look so… edible?
He feels the dried blood dripping from his mouth and his hands stained in the same red substance, holding his stomach where, surprisingly, he is no longer bleeding from.The pain is atrocious, but he needs to fucking eat, and he approaches the person faster.
The moment they notice him, their eyes grow bigger and they let out a strident scream, but Jungkook gives them no time to leave.
He doesn’t know what in the hell possesses him to jump on that poor human, his teeth becoming sharper than they ever were, shredding their neck in pieces, their screams slowly dying down as he eats like a starved animal.
The fresh blood is coating the dried layer on his chin. He feels like an uncontrollable beast, and he’s literally acting like one right now. No one with a right mind would have ever done this… but it’s like he isn’t a human.
He was revived from the dead, he can’t possibly be human anymore…
He has an idea as to why this happened.
Those girls — that girl band who he seemed so enthralled by — sacrificed him, and for what…? For fame? For money? Whatever it is, they killed the wrong person because obviously the sacrifice didn’t fucking work.
Well, at least on Jungkook’s side.
He doesn’t know where they went — probably out of town, living their best life as if they didn’t murder a guy for their crappy albums to get more sales.
He’s cursed now, or whatever the hell is happening to him.
He looks down at his victim; it’s a man.
As he eats, he suddenly feels nauseous, vomiting what he had so far swallowed. A dark liquid comes out of his mouth, and god, it’s even more painful than the cut in his stomach.
He feels disgusted by himself — why isn’t he full? Eating felt so good, considering how starved he was, but it’s like he ate something … expired.
Argh, what’s wrong with him… He ate someone’s guts, of course it doesn’t taste like a 5 stars meal. Then why did his instinct tell him to do that?
That’s fucked up.
The next few days are horrible for Jungkook.
After that night, he doesn’t eat anything except for raw chicken and other types of meat that were just not enough to satiate him. It doesn't taste good either.
He lays in bed most of the time, having no energy, skipping the gym and his practices, which he usually never does. He gets texts from his friends, but he doesn’t bother to check his phone.
It’s on Sunday night that he decides to leave his bed, going to look at himself in the mirror. He has big dark circles under his eyes — not particularly flattering. He’s still very hungry, but none of the food in his fridge makes him want to eat.
There’s one thing he’d want, though…
It’s when he receives a text from a specific person that he knows what to do.
iseul: hey, gguk. wanna study together for tomorrow’s exam?
ᯓ ᡣ𐭩
“Hey, man,” Jungkook’s teammate, Doyun, greets him. “Heard about Hana? That’s fucked up,” he states, walking beside his friend. “And right after Iseul… My parents refuse my sister to go out alone now.”
“Yeah, I heard,” Jungkook replies, not really caring, but still listening.
It’s not like anybody liked Hana before, he doesn’t understand why everybody suddenly cares now that she’s dead. She needed to die to finally have some importance. How sad.
She wasn’t that good of a laid either, so really, what’s the matter? Sure, it’s tragic, but who’s going to miss her besides her family.
“Can’t be an animal at this point,” his teammate says under his breath, “Do you wanna know what I’m thinking?”
Not really…
“What?”
“I’m thinking it’s gotta be some ‘Jack the Ripper’ kinda guy. You know those freaks who wanna be the modern this or that.”
Kind of offensive…
Jungkook rolls his eyes without Doyun noticing, snickering at his words.
“The police’s saying it’s a bear or some shit,” Jungkook explains, reaching his class. “That’s more believable than your ‘modern Jack the Ripper’.” He mimics quotes with his fingers, stopping in front of the classroom.
Doyun still doesn’t seem convinced, but it’s not Jungkook’s job to make him less stupid. He can believe what he wants, he’s not an investigator even though he thinks he is.
“See you at practice, alright?”
“Yeah, later, man.”
Jungkook has never been very attentive in class. He doesn’t care about a lot of things and college is one of them. He wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for his parents and their high expectations of him.
He’s looking outside the windows, noticing the grey clouds, heavy rain pouring from the sky. A flash of lighting breaks through the sky, hearing the thunder a second after.
Nobody seems attentive either, all interested in the thunderstorm that’s starting. It might be the strongest they’ve seen in a couple of years.
“Crap,” the teacher says as the electricity is cut off, surely because of the thunder.
Girls are gasping, some of them whispering to each other about how creepy the situation has become while the professor waits for the power to get back on, wanting to continue teaching his class.
Jungkook’s phone lights up as he gets a new notification. He takes a glimpse, reading the text he just received.
doyun: practice’s canceled..
Great, Jungkook thinks. He really needed to get some steam off, but it won’t happen today.
“Sir!” A girl raises her hand, catching the attention of the professor. “All classes got canceled. Can we leave? Apparently, the power isn’t coming back in a few hours.”
“Well, I won’t teach in the dark…”
The professor seems quite disappointed, but he lets everyone go back home, seeing no point in staying if he can’t teach.
While exiting the classroom, Jungkook gets bumped into by someone. He doesn’t move much, but the person drops their books on the floor, bending down to pick them up hurriedly.
“Shit… Sorry, I wasn’t looking where I was going,” you apologize, standing back up when you have all of your books in your arms.
“It’s fine,” Jungkook mumbles and you give him a straight smile, still feeling apologetic.
He recognizes you from highschool, a girl he never talked to, but who he knew the name of. Then, he watches you walking away for a short moment, eyeing your form up and down, memorizing it.
ᯓ ᡣ𐭩
You’re in the cafeteria, sitting with your friends, waiting for about a good 30 minutes now. The storm from yesterday is still ongoing, and the power is very unstable, cutting off every couple of times.
The finals are scheduled for today and the administration told the students to come regardless of the storm, thinking it would stop during the night. So you’re waiting to be sent to the gym where the exams are usually taking place, but seeing the electricity goes off and comes back every second, it isn’t the best time to start an exam.
People are free to go, it’s college after all, but most of the students are staying in case a decision is made. You know you wouldn’t want to skip your exam, that’s why you’re staying, even though it is starting to get really long.
No murder has happened since the beginning of the storm, confirming the police suspicions that it might be a wild animal doing this. A bear wouldn’t come out during a thunderstorm, hence why no bodies have been found or anyone going missing.
You don’t really know what to think about the whole thing. You never really experienced anything of the sort before, only ever seen it in the news, taking place in a far away city. Now, it’s really different to see it in person, seeing people grieving, freaking out.
You don’t understand how an animal would do such a thing, especially since they aren’t known to attack humans, or… eat them. But everybody is kind of desperate to find a culprit.
As you’re looking through your notes, you notice that you’re missing a piece of information that you absolutely need to know for your test. You would ask your friends, but none of them are in this class with you. Plus, you forgot your book so the only solution would be to go to the library.
The place is lit up by candles and oil lamps. The power doesn’t seem to have come back here.
The librarian isn’t even here, so you can’t ask her for directions, which would be really useful, but you’ll do without. You go to the biology section and start searching for the book you need. It takes you some time, carefully looking through the shelves until you notice an older edition of the book. You hope what you need is in there.
You start flipping the pages to the right chapter, but you jump out of surprise and drop the book to the floor at the sound of someone else’s voice.
“Aren’t you supposed to attend your exam?”
It’s the guy you bumped into yesterday; Jungkook.
What’s weird is that you didn’t at all hear him, you could have swore you were alone in the library. Guess he’s a really quiet walker, hence why you didn’t even see him coming out of the classroom the day before.
“Uh, y-yeah,” you stammer out, furrowing your brows. You bend down to pick up the book, his eyes following your movements closely. “Just had to come here for this,” you say and show the object in question in your hand. “What about you?”
He leans on the shelves beside him.
“Didn’t feel like wasting my time back there,” he explains and you nod, not really sure what he wants exactly… It’s not like you’re friends or anything.
You can’t see much of him with the low lighting in the library, but you still catch on the way he’s looking at you intently. It makes you slightly uncomfortable, considering he’s towering over you with all his height. And Jungkook is very tall compared to you.
“Is- Is there something else you wanted to ask me…?” You manage to let out, voice a bit shaky and uneasy.
“Are you scared?” he asks casually.
He steps closer to you, and you don’t understand why you don’t step back. It’s like you don’t dare.
“What?”
“The storm. Pretty intense, right?”
Is he really interested to know if you’re scared of storms or is he playing with you? Why would he even play with you in the first place, that’s what you wonder.
His behaviour really confuses you. It’s true that you don’t know him, but he isn’t the type of guy to just… creep girls out. Maybe it’s not his intention though?
“Oh, yeah… It’s- it’s nothing I've ever seen before,” you confess in a weak voice.
“Me neither,” Jungkook replies.
You hold the book against you tighter like it’s some sort of protection, or just as emotional support. You don’t know what’s up with him, but it has you feeling some type of way…
You feel the knot in your stomach getting tighter as he gets even closer, trapping you between him and the bookshelves.
Yes, you’re scared, but not of the storm… of him.
And… there’s a part of you that likes it — likes the attention he gives you, the way his dark eyes look at your body. His gaze makes you think of a carnivore, a predator.
You’re the food he was looking for.
“It’s really loud, isn’t it?” he observes. “I wonder… if you had to scream, would anybody hear you?”
That startles you right away.
“Jungkook-” Saying his name seems to catch his attention, his eyes looking directly into yours. “Stop it.”
He doesn’t break eye contact, and you’re destabilized by how long he can hold your gaze, a shiver running up your spine, making the hair on your arms stand up.
It’s only to whisper in your ear that his eyes leave yours.
“Stop what exactly?”
His hot breath hits the side of your neck, hearing your heart pounding in your chest, the knot in your stomach becoming heavier and heavier. Your hands clasp around your book, holding onto it for dear life as you gulp down the excess of saliva in your mouth.
You scrunch your eyes shut when you feel his hands on your hips, fingers sneaking under the hem of your top. Your core heats up, blood rushing to your cheeks… and clitoris.
“What do you want?” You breathe out, opening your eyes when Jungkook faces you again.
He takes the book from you, putting it back onto the shelves, not caring if it’s the wrong placement.
“Just a little bit of fun,” he answers, “wouldn’t you like that, hm?” He slips his index finger under the band of your skirt, pulling you closer to him, his lips only centimetres away from yours. “I know girls like you are too shy to ask for it… So I’m making the first move.”
“No, I-” You begin, but don’t have the time to finish your sentence.
“It’s fine, I’m gonna take the lead. You don’t have to worry about anything, pretty,” he tells you, tilting his head and pressing a light kiss to your lips. Surprisingly, you reciprocate it. He pulls his hand away from your skirt, enveloping it around your throat, not putting any pressure yet. “I knew you’d be into it, you’re a little freak, aren’t you?”
You don’t know what to answer. Is there even anything you can say back to him? What’s the point of lying when he has you trapped between his large body and the bookshelves, his tattooed fingers gripping your neck, his lips brushing over your face.
But would that be really a lie saying he’s wrong about you? He doesn’t know you…
He kisses you again, this time sloppier, his tongue dominating yours easily. He nudges your legs open with his knee, his other hand swiftly diving under the hem of your skirt, groping your flesh in a lewd way that keeps you out of breath — apart from the fact that his tongue is currently exploring your mouth.
He graces the bump of your pussy covered by your panties with his fingers, making your knees buckle at the unexpected contact. He rubs the pad of his middle finger over your clit, a whine escaping your throat, muffled by his mouth on yours. The moment is brief until he slips his hand into your underwear.
You try to make him stop by grabbing his wrist, pulling away from his lips to pathetically whisper a ‘p-please’ that makes him chuckle.
“Already begging for me, sweetheart?” He softly laughs, smirking at you. “Excited by the idea of a guy’s fingers in your little cunt instead of yours? Is that it?”
You frown because that wasn’t the reason why you begged him, but now that he said this… your thoughts are going into a completely different way. What’s wrong with you?
“Do you wanna know how it feels, baby? How it’s like to have your pussy stuffed by someone else’s fingers…”
He’s not waiting for an answer as he starts stroking your bud of nerves in slow circular motions, applying some pressure to really make you feel it. You let out another whine, this time of pleasure.
Jungkook then shifts down to your entrance, circling it with a lot of delicacy, but this gentleness of his doesn’t go on for long as he pushes a finger into you. You bite down on your bottom lip — the size of his fingers are in no comparison to yours. Your eyes swell up in water, little cries escaping your mouth when he adds a second digit.
“I know, I know,” he whispers, “must be uncomfortable, hm?” You nod your head, confirming his words. “It’ll feel good soon, I promise. You’re used to the feel of your tiny fingers, it’s normal…”
When he says this, you have a hard time believing him. How could it feel good when you weren’t at all prepared for this — when it’s not what you wanted.
He begins to move his fingers inside of you, slow and long strokes at first, circling your clit with his thumb at the same time. He curls his fingers, making a little hook, patting your sweet spot. The intrusion is uncomfortable, but it progressively gets so much more pleasurable as he thrusts into you at a regular pace.
Tears are still falling down from your eyes, eyelashes wet and sticky, but they aren’t the result of your pain…
“You’re pretty when you cry,” Jungkook murmurs beside your ear, butterflies in your stomach when he tells you this.
He unwraps his hand from your throat to instead grab your thigh, placing your leg around his hip. You now feel his fingers way deeper inside of you, gently and deliciously stimulating your g-spot. You dare to look down where his left hand is operating between your thighs, sliding in until he’s knuckles deep into your pussy. This makes you breathless, head rolling back on your shoulders and hitting the shelves behind you.
“Oh, my god-!” You exclaim when Jungkook’s ministrations bring you so close to your orgasm. Your legs are twitching, your body warning you of your approaching high.
You’d probably be more aware of his hard cock trapped in his baggy jeans, but you literally cannot focus on anything else other than Jungkook fingering you, hitting your sensitive spot each time he thrusts in.
“That’s it, baby,” he encourages, moving faster. “You feel it? Huh?” He asks and you croak out a weak ‘yes’. “Tell me how it feels.”
You hate his questions — you hate them so much. He knows how you feel, but he wants you to say it, he wants you to say that you enjoy it, and… your body really does.
“G-Good.”
“Yeah?” he breathes out, fucking your cunt with his fingers, enthralled by the little moans you let out.
“Yes,” you confirm, closing your eyes and nodding your head. “Fuck!” You curse out when you finally reach your high, grasping onto his forearm as you ride out your orgasm, your entire body shaking.
Jungkook helps you by slowly rubbing your puffy clit in circles, telling you more dirty words in your ear, all said in the sweetest voice, as if what he’s doing can be described as anything sweet.
“Good girl,” he praises, “see, I told you it’d feel great.”
He still has his head in the crook of your neck, and you frown at the feeling of sharp teeth against your skin. It’s barely there, just brushing over it, as if hesitating to act… but Jungkook retrieves back, looking into your reddened eyes.
He could stop there, but he won’t — though he got what he wanted, he needs more…
He pulls his hand out of your panties, fingers glistening in your arousal. “Open wide for me, baby,” he instructs.
You glance at his hand, a little repulsed. You’ve never thought about tasting yourself and it’s surely nothing you’d have ever done… if not for Jungkook.
You then reluctantly open your mouth and he enters his wet fingers in.
“Suck,” he adds on, expecting you to follow his orders, and you do without a second thought.
He stares down at you while you lick his fingers clean and he slides them a bit deeper, pushing down on your tongue. The taste of yourself isn’t what you thought it’d be… It doesn’t taste much, in fact.
He removes his fingers from your mouth only to put them in his own after. “As sweet as you are,” he grins. “Turn around.”
You hesitate for a second, looking at him credulously, before doing what he asked you to do on trembling legs.
“Are you…?” You say under your breath, looking over your shoulder and seeing Jungkook pulling the zipper of his pants down.
“Going to put my cock into you?” he finishes your question for you. “Yeah, I am.”
You stop breathing at his answer, sensing his deft fingers touching your thighs and hips, going under your skirt to drag your panties down.
He soon gets his cock out of his briefs, pumping himself a couple of times before aligning his head with your dripping wet entrance. His tattooed hand keeps your skirt crumpled up over your ass, laying the other one on your hip.
“Careful, sweetheart,” he says softly beside your ear, “because this might sting a little bit more than two fingers.” He swipes the head of his cock through your sticky folds and all you can do is moan pathetically at the feeling, lewd, wet noises echoing in the big library.
You can’t see his length even with the way you contort your head to look over your shoulder, but you’re still able to see his chest and hips moving as he pushes his cock into your pussy. Though you have no idea what he looks like, the painful feeling of your cunt getting stretched out to his size tells you he’s really big.
And he was right. This hurts way more than his fingers, the two feelings are not comparable at all.
“Jungkook-,” you cry out, holding the shelves in front of you till there’s no more blood in your knuckles.
He hears you, loving the sounds you’re making because of him and the way you say his name with eyes full of tears. When he bottoms out inside of you, his pelvis flushed against your ass, he lets out a low grunt and throws his head back, closing his eyes to savour the pleasure entirely.
You involuntarily clench around him, making him tighten his grip on your hip. He then starts thrusting into you, his cock sliding in and out of your pussy at a slow but harsh pace. Each time he bottoms out, Jungkook makes sure the skin of his thighs slap against your ass, the sounds almost as loud as your little moans and whimpers.
But the storm is so intense and noisy that he’s pretty sure nobody else in the library could hear you — if there was anyone here apart from the two of you anyway.
Your wetness allows him to fuck his cock into your pussy back and forth, welcoming him so perfectly without any restriction. It’s almost impossible for him to not hit your sweet spot, and he reaches so much deeper when he lifts up your thigh with the hand that was previously placed on your hip.
You don’t know how long you can stay in this position, especially when Jungkook’s drilling his hard cock into you like nothing else matters. It’s like he needs it from you, and as the pleasure only builds up in you, you start thinking you need it desperately, too.
You’re breathing heavily, and so is he, feeling his hot breath on your neck when he tilts his head down closer to yours. You can clearly hear his breathing now as well as his deep grunts that leave his mouth every time your walls close tightly around his girth, literally sucking him in.
“Shit,” he curses out as he pushes lightly on your back, deepening the arch of it so your ass is flushed against his pelvis. “How could I have ever passed over you… You’re so- fuck,” Jungkook chokes out, not finishing his sentence, but you have a guess on what he wanted to say.
He then kisses your neck pretty messily, but it only raises the temperature of your body, your skin boiling hot under his soft lips. He leaves a wet trail behind, going up to your ear, down to your shoulder.
Telling him to stop isn’t even possible anymore, it wouldn’t make any sense… would be absolutely stupid when you’re so close to your second orgasm.
As he thrusts into you, his balls smack your pussy, and the sounds are just too vulgar, but it’s honestly arousing you so much. Jungkook lets go of your thigh to take a hold of your jaw, turning it around so he can look at your face.
Your mouth is ajar to let out big puffs of air, and it’s the same for him, his breathing being irregular and heavy. He didn’t think he would ever need something that badly, which is making you his, surprisingly enough.
Making you his in whatever way possible; whether it’s by fucking you or eating you — or both. Jungkook doesn’t care, he just wants it.
It doesn’t take long for your second orgasm to pass through you, arms and legs shaking as the knot at the pit of your stomach snaps. Jungkook feels it very clearly, your walls hugging his cock terribly tightly, bringing him closer to his own orgasm as well.
“Holy fuck,” he hisses, his hip thrusts accelerating, literally burying his cock in your cunt until he slips out. He rapidly strokes himself and cums on your ass, strings of white cum falling on you. “Oh, god…”
He stays in this position for a couple of seconds, catching his breath. He then slightly backs away, making sure to keep your skirt crumpled up over your butt, looking at the mess he made of you.
Suddenly, you both catch on the voices entering the library, making you rush to dress up and clean yourselves — especially you.
ᯓ ᡣ𐭩
You’re in your bedroom, studying and writing down on your notebook while lying down on your bed. It’s relatively quiet in your house, hearing the TV downstairs playing and the ceiling fan above your head running.
The ringtone of your cellphone breaks the silence, buzzing on top of your bedsheets. It’s a number that you don’t recognize, but the first digitals show you that it’s a number from your area. So you pick it up.
“Hello?”
“Hey, pretty.”
“Uh, who is this?” You ask the person on the other side of the line because you have no idea who would call you like this. They must know you.
“Take a guess,” they say, and their tone is oddly a little flirty.
You frown, starting to remember where you heard this voice for the last time… And in which situation exactly.
“... Jungkook?”
He laughs at that and you can imagine the cheeky smile he’s sporting right now.
“You got it,” he replies, “see, I knew you’d remember me.”
You immediately feel uneasy despite the fact you’re just talking through the phone, but things have happened since your encounter with Jungkook.
Things such as more dead girls, all brutally murdered by this ‘animal’.
You suspected nothing until you noticed how tired looking Jungkook was a day or two after what happened in the library. Normally, you wouldn’t have looked at him, but you literally couldn’t get him out of your head after how intimate the both of you had been together.
Each time he was in the same hallway as you, you’d give him a glance and nothing more as you were too shy to talk to him or even look at him for too long.
But sometimes you dared to watch him a little longer when he didn’t know you were in the same room as him.
And you saw the dark circles, the bad attitude he had with his friends, and the disdain look he seemed to give to everybody. You also saw him get in his car with a girl. You were jealous for a second, but you felt totally different the next day when that same girl went missing and that Jungkook seemed to be doing fine again.
At first, it was just silly thoughts, but it was too strong of a coincidence, you couldn’t think about anything else.
“Yeah…” You say back, shoulders tense as you sit up on your bed. “How did you get my number?”
“Asked Doyun for it,” he simply explains. “You did a project back in highschool together. Remember?”
You do remember. You were so stressed out about it. Paired with a popular jock? You believed the teacher was against you, but it turned out that Doyun was way nicer than you thought.
“Luckily, you didn’t change numbers.”
Lucky for who?
“Right,” you huff out, looking through your window, a shiver passing through you at the thought of Jungkook hiding somewhere.
“What’re you doing?” he asks.
“Uhm, just studying… Why?”
“Wanna go out with me?” Jungkook proposes after a few seconds of silence.
You look through your window again. It’s dark outside. This would be such a bad idea…
“It’s 9 p.m. on a Thursday night,” you begin, sounding way too bitchy for his liking, “where would we go? And why would I even go out with you…”
“The park’s always open,” he adds.
“What-”
“Relax. Nothing bad gonna happen, alright?" his voice resonates through the phone, hearing a slight laugh after. "I miss you, that's all."
You bite down on your lip, shaking your head to get all of your stupid thoughts away. As much as you hate to admit it, you love hearing that from Jungkook. That’s all you wanted him to say since he left you in the library… tell you he needs you as much as you need him.
But this isn’t the time for that — there won’t ever be another time anyway.
You respond nothing and so he takes it as a yes. “I’ll come pick you up in 10 minutes. Put something pretty on,” he chuckles, hanging up.
ᯓ ᡣ𐭩
The park isn’t an open space with benches and a fountain. It’s basically the woods where you go for hiking. There are paths you can follow that will all lead you to the same place at the end.
You could have thought of something smarter, or less dangerous, but you didn’t have any time. Jungkook showed up at your entrance precisely 10 minutes after he hung up and you weren’t exactly ready to see him just yet.
You had to get in his car anyway, the whole ride being quiet until you arrived at your destination. Your stomach churned up the moment you entered the woods, Jungkook behind you.
Your heart is still beating super fast right now, whether it’s because you’re absolutely scared or because Jungkook is kissing you feverishly, it doesn’t matter. You can’t do this, and you don’t know how it might end for you if you let yourself be distracted by him.
“Jungkook,” you manage to say between kisses. You push harder on his chest, making him stop from putting his tongue in your mouth. “We need to talk,” you say firmly.
“About what?” he chuckles, diving back down to the crook of your neck where he plants wet kisses, his hand sneaking up under your dress while the other holds your hip.
You squirm, fighting hard to not let yourself give in to his touch.
“I saw… I saw Jia and you getting into your car the other day,” you confess and he backs away from your neck when he hears that, looking intently at your face.
“And? You were jealous, is that it?” He questions, lifting one eyebrow.
“No! I mean-,” you answer right after, thinking about what to say and how to say it. “She went missing the day after you saw her, and-”
Jungkook gets visibly annoyed, trapping his bottom lip between his teeth. He lets go of you, still looking at you, but not with lustful eyes anymore.
“What? What are you trying to say, huh?” He huffs out. “That I killed her? Fucking crazy.”
You feel bad. Is he really guilty?
He has to be. You know he is.
“Back in the library,” you begin to say, “were you… did you intend to kill me?” You eventually say it all, breath caught in your throat as you watch Jungkook registering your words.
He sighs, “why would it matter?” You frown at that, about to respond, but he steps closer to you, trapping you between him and the tree again. “Just let me take care of you, gonna make you feel good, baby…”
He slips his hands under your dress so rapidly that you don’t have any time to react, immediately overwhelmed by his groping and his lips all over you.
But you get back your senses, using all your force to push him away. You succeed to have a safe distance between the two of you.
“So you’re admitting it!? You wanted to- to do the same thing to me!”
“No,” he disagrees, his voice harsh, sounding quite annoyed. “I just wanted- Fuck!” he exclaims angrily, but it’s like he doesn’t know what to say.
“You could have everybody you wanted, Jungkook,” you state, looking him into the eyes, “why me?”
He looks back at you and you wonder how you couldn’t have seen it before… The evil.
“Why not? You’re hot, kinda a stuck-up, but I had to try it, you know,” he chuckles. “For a nerdy girl, you sure know how to take dick.”
It angers you to a point…
“Fuck you!”
And without thinking twice, you reach down to pick up the pocket knife you hid in your boot before.
You open it and you rush toward Jungkook, stabbing him in his lower stomach. You retrieve the knife a bit too hastily, resulting in you dropping it and falling down on your butt to the ground.
Jungkook also falls down, holding onto his stomach, red blood dripping out of his cut onto his hands. He yells out many curses, sucking air through his teeth to appease the pain as much as he can.
You watch him, startled and out of breath, eventually turning around and searching for your knife. When you find it, you get back up and to Jungkook, but he isn’t there anymore.
He has completely disappeared.
“You saved my life, the least I could do is save yours.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

For years, conspiracists have done their best to predict the end of the world. However, no one could've guessed that this is how it would happen. There were no signs. No warnings at all. Not a single soul had time to prepare for the beginning of the end.

It seemed like by the snap of a finger, everything that you've ever known was suddenly gone and you weren't sure how much more you could take of it. Waiting it out just wasn't an option and you were right on the edge of giving up. You had given up. That is until you heard him. Another lost soul, just trying to find his way back home. You saved his life, and now he was hell-bent on saving yours.

It was kind of ironic. You'd given up on yourself and then a complete stranger refused to give up on you. But what happens when that one complete stranger turns into seven? What happens when you dedicate your life to making sure that they get their "happy ending"?

We've all hoped that when our time inevitably comes that we'd be able to spend it peacefully with our loved ones. However, that turned out to be a luxury that most could not afford. You thought that maybe you'd all find it within each other...that maybe despite the world burning in flames, you'd all be at peace when it turned to ash.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There was a sort of lingering darkness within you ever since the news broke out. Most would say that it was normal to feel hopeless in a situation like this, but it wasn’t just hopelessness that you were feeling. It was more so a lack of motivation to keep fighting. You were already struggling before and this just seemed like the icing on the cake for you. The final confirmation that you’d been searching for that maybe, just maybe, this world wasn’t worth living in.
Your thoughts continuously wandered and no matter how many times you tried to reason, you always found yourself thinking about what you were doing when the news broke out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You’d been standing in the kitchen, making your dinner while the news played in the background. It wasn’t like you were really paying attention to what the anchor was saying, it just kind of worked as a background noise.

Once you were done cooking and fixing yourself a plate, you went to your living room to find some random movie on Netflix to watch as you ate. You were just about to change the channel when the woman on the screen said something that stopped you dead in your tracks. It was then that you were suddenly interested in the news.

“Scientists have confirmed that the dead are coming back to life. The cause is unknown, but they are urging everyone to stay inside and lock your doors. Do not make any unnecessary trips or attempt to travel.” She stated in a shaky tone.

“What the fuck?” You said to yourself as you sat your food down and began cycling through channels.

Every station seemed to be repeating the exact same message. The usual programs had been stalled. This was a public service announcement, and not one of those dumb little weather warnings that everyone ignores. No, this was legit. You continued clicking through before settling on one that seemed to be giving new information.

“Scientists are warning that these beings are extremely dangerous and have exhibited extreme levels of aggressive behavior. It is important to avoid any contact with them at all costs to prevent further infections. If you or someone you know has been bitten or scratched by these beings at all, please isolate yourself. Due to increased traffic, emergency services are limited.—“

You leaned forward as the man on the screen paused and held his earpiece. His face dropped and his eyes grew wide as he began looking around desperately, as if he was searching for confirmation. He turned his attention back to the screen and gulped deeply as he began speaking again.

“We have just been given new information. Emergency services are no longer available at this time. Please be advised that if you or anyone you know has been bitten or scratched, they need to be euthanized. Attack the brain, it’s the only way to stop them. We are alone. God help us all.” He said through a trembling voice as tears began to fall from his eyes.

Just as you were waiting for more information, the program shut off. The only sound playing is static and there are no anchors speaking. The only thing visible is a blue screen with the words “PLEASE STANDBY” in the middle.

What the fuck is happening? You thought as you returned to clicking through channels, each of them saying the exact same thing. You quickly stood up and walked through your apartment, verifying that every door and window was locked and that all of the curtains and blinds were closed. Once you finished your walk-through, you returned to the living room to grab your phone and call your parents.

It barely got through the first ring before your mother picked up, sounding completely frantic over the phone.

“Y/N! Oh my god, honey! Are you ok?” She spoke, sounding as if she was crying.

You weren’t sure if the same thing was happening back home when you decided to call, but your mother’s reaction confirmed that this was a worldwide phenomenon. Your parents lived in the United States, but you had moved to Seoul two years ago for college. You only ever went home for holidays, and it’d been months since you last saw them.

“Mom, I’m fine. What’s happening?”

“We don’t know. We were driving home from the store and got stuck in traffic. We didn’t think anything of it but then we heard screaming. There was a woman walking down the street and she was covered in blood. Some people got out of their cars to check on her and— “she spoke through tears before pausing. You could hear your father in the background trying to comfort her.

“And what, mom? What happened?” You urged, feeling the anxiety raising as you listened to the cries on the other end of the phone.

“She attacked him, Y/N. She knocked him down and she looked like she was eating him.” She finished.

You felt your legs give out on you. Luckily, you landed on your couch. You stared at the tv, still stuck on that blue screen. You tried to make sense of it all, but to no avail. You stayed on the phone with your parents for a bit longer. Going through each of the warnings that was on the news and creating a checklist of dos and don’ts with each other. You made a schedule to check in with each other every night, making sure everyone was still ok.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now here you were three weeks later. Lying on your bed, thinking about how quickly everything had changed. You tried to be as conservative as you could be with your supplies, but they could only last you for so long and now you were nearing the end. You barely had food or water at this point, and it wasn’t like you could just go to the store for more. If you did, you’d risk facing those things. You haven’t heard from your parents in a week, unsure if they’re even alive at this point. Hell, you’re unsure if anyone you know is alive at this point.
For days you heard screaming from all around you, and like a snap of a finger, it all stopped. The world around you went quiet, and you felt as if you couldn’t take it anymore. If everyone around you is dead, then what’s the point in being alive?
That’s why you found yourself in the position that you’re now in. Staring at the ceiling with a small handgun lying on your chest. You’d asked yourself what the best way would be to do it. You knew that you needed to destroy your brain if you didn’t want to risk becoming one of those things, but what if you missed? You blinked slowly as you tried to think it through, snapping out of it as you heard what sounded like yelling.
You slowly got out of bed and walked over to your window, peaking through the curtains. That’s when you saw a man running clumsily down the road, a group of those creatures chasing him. He seemed as if he could get away. That’s if he’d stop turning around to look at them. Your breath caught in your lungs as you watched one of the things grab him by his shirt, knocking him to the ground and landing on top of him.
You battled with your thoughts as you watched the man frantically hold back the creature. You want to help him but what if he’s dangerous? What if he brings more of those things with him? You were taken from your thoughts as you watched the other creatures get closer to him.
“Fuck it.” You said to yourself, quickly opening the window and firing a shot at the creature on top of him, hitting it right in the head. The man froze for a moment before turning his attention to the sound of the shot, his eyes finally meeting yours.
“Up here, quickly!” You yelled as he scrambled to get up and began sprinting towards your building. You rushed out of the front door to meet him, firing more shots at the creatures following behind him as he beelined into your apartment. You quickly followed, slamming the door behind you and locking it.
You rested your head against the wood as you tried to control your breathing. It wasn’t until you heard the man speak that you truly processed what had just happened.
“Oh fuck!” He panted. You slowly turned to face him. He was laying on the floor, clutching at his stomach as he attempted to catch his breath.
“Who are you?” You asked sternly, causing the man to sit up to face you. Your eyes scanned over his body, searching for any sign that he’d been injured by the creatures. You met his eyes once again when you realized that he wasn’t covered in blood at all, just dirt.
“My name is Hoseok. What’s your name?” He asked as he stood up. He was tall and slender. His hair was a mess and he looked like he hadn’t slept in days. It was in that moment when you realized that you probably didn’t look much better.
“My name is Y/N.” You said hesitantly.
“Well, Y/N. I cannot thank you enough for saving me. Those things, they’d been chasing me for a while. I thought I was a goner.” He said through a forced laugh.
“What were you doing out there?”
“I was trying to find my friends; we went out to look for supplies, but we got split up after a group of zombies started chasing us.” He said as he began looking around your apartment.
“Zombies?” You questioned. Sure, it was obvious that the zombie apocalypse was happening, but you hadn’t brought it upon yourself to actually refer to them as zombies. The thought of it all made you feel as if you were living in some sort of bad horror movie.
“Yeah, I mean, what else would you call those things?”
“I don’t know, I just never considered calling them that.” You shrugged.
You two fell into an awkward silence, unsure of what to do now that you were both stuck in a room with a complete stranger. You looked down at your hands and realized that you’d still been holding onto the gun.
“Would you like water or something?” You offered in an attempt to break the tension.
“Yeah, that’d be nice.” He smiled brightly, seeming relieved that you'd asked him first.
“I don’t have much left, but I’ll spare what I can. You can sit down if you’d like.” You told him, motioning towards the couch.
You began searching through your cabinets for something to give Hoseok before settling on a protein bar. You filled a cup with water and grabbed the bar before meeting him on the couch. You sat the items on the coffee table in front of you and slid them over to him.
“Thank you so much.” He said with a small bow before chugging the water.
“So, you said that you were out with your friends. How many are there?” You couldn’t help the curiosity. You had convinced yourself that you were the only one left alive in your city and the fact that there are others out there makes you question your previous beliefs.
“We’re a group of seven. We’ve been staying in an older house we found. It seemed like it was empty, so we just assumed that the owners must’ve been away when all of this happened.” He shrugged.
You fell silent once again, unsure on how to respond. This is the first time you’ve spoken to another person since your last phone call with your parents. It didn’t seem like that long, but you couldn’t stop the feeling of loneliness. Any other time, you would’ve been fine with a lack of human interaction but something about the world seemingly ending made those connections feel so much more meaningful and you missed it.
“Hey, why don’t you come with me? We can go back to the house. I’m sure that the boys have made it there already.” He said as he leaned down to meet your gaze.
You couldn’t stop the tears from forming as you saw the gentle look in his eyes. You quickly embraced him, wrapping your arms around his neck. He seemed taken aback at first but soon enough returned the favor, allowing his hands to rest on your back.
“Thank you, Hoseok.” You whispered, still holding on to him.
“You saved my life, the least I could do is save yours.” He said softly. It was almost as if he knew.
You pulled away slowly, letting out a pitiful laugh as you began wiping your tears with your sleeve.
“I guess I should probably pack. When do you want to leave?”
“As soon as possible, I don’t want the boys to worry too much.” He said, causing you to nod before standing up to go gather your things.
You made your way to your room and grabbed a backpack before throwing a few items of clothing in it along with some other essentials, including your phone. You decided to change your clothes as well. Settling on a pair of jeans, a tank top, a hoodie, and some boots. Once you were changed, you tied your hair up into a ponytail and made your way back to the living room.
“I’m ready, Hoseok.” You said, grabbing his attention.
“Alright, let’s go. Also, you can call me Hobi.” He smiled as he began making his way to the door.
“I brought this. I wasn’t sure if you preferred a knife or a gun.” You said, holding your hand out to show him the pocketknife you were holding.
“Eh, I’ll let you keep the gun. You seem to know how to handle it.” He said as he grabbed the knife, causing you to nod. “Ok, we’ll need to move as quickly and quietly as possible. The house isn’t too far away.” He stated before peeking through the door.
The trip to the house that Hobi and his friends were staying at went surprisingly smoothly compared to the predicament he was facing when you first saw him. You struggled a bit with the way the city now looked. The streets were full of abandoned cars, some of them covered in blood. Various windows were shattered, and doors of surrounding buildings were all open with red trails leading inside. You gagged a bit at the smell. Whenever you watched crime shows, you always heard people talk about how the smell of a rotting corpse was somewhat indescribable, but also unlike anything else, and they were right. You abstained from looking at any of the bodies surrounding you. The fear of potentially recognizing one of them was enough to make you vomit, but you did your best to push it down.
When Hobi told you that the house wasn’t too far away, you didn’t take into account that you two would be walking and doing your best not to alert anything around you. You assumed it’d take 10 minutes at the most, but an hour later you finally made it.
“Here it is.” Hobi stated as he led you inside, locking the door behind him.
The house was large and oddly clean. You understood now what he meant when he said that he and his friends had assumed that the owners were gone when all hell broke loose. You were taken from your thoughts when you heard footsteps trailing quickly down the hallway.
“Hobi?” A voice called out, causing you to turn your attention towards the sound.
There, another man stood with five others following behind him. He looked somewhat distressed, but there was also a sense of relief when he realized his friend was ok.
“Holy fuck, we thought you were dead.” He said as he pulled Hobi into a hug. The others began greeting him and doing the same.
“I’m ok. Actually, I probably would’ve been dead if it wasn’t for my friend here.” Hobi turned to face you, causing the others to look in your direction.
“Who is this?” One man spoke. His hair was dark and tied back into a half-up ponytail. He was muscular, with a sleeve of tattoos covering one of his arms.
“This is Y/N. She saved my life. I wouldn’t have made it back without her.” He said as he grabbed your hand, gently pulling you forward to face everyone.
“Hi.” You said shyly as you gave a small wave.
“Hi, Y/N. I’m Namjoon.” Another man spoke, offering a gentle smile as he sensed your nervousness. “This is Jin, Yoongi, Taehyung, Jimin, and Jungkook.” He continued, pointing to each of the men.
“It’s nice to meet you, Y/N!” Jimin said brightly causing you to smile.
“It’s nice to meet you all.”
“There’s two of us in each room. Yoongi is by himself so you two can share a room.” Hobi said, causing you to look up at him worriedly.
Yoongi didn’t seem mean per se, just not very happy with your unexpected company. Everyone else greeted you with warm smiles, attempting to be as welcoming as possible, but Yoongi eyed you up and down in a suspicious manner.
“Don’t worry, there’s two twin beds in there so you won’t have to sleep with him.” Hobi said through a laugh.
“Yoongi Hyung, could you show Y/N where your room is?” Namjoon said, turning to face Yoongi.
He didn’t say anything, just began making his way up the stairs as if he assumed you’d be following, which you did. As he walked into the bedroom, you stood in the doorway awkwardly.
“This one’s mine. You can take the other.” He spoke lowly. This was the first time you heard his voice. Slightly taken aback by how deep it was. He turned to face you after you didn’t respond. A look of annoyance on his face.
“I can see if Hobi is willing to switch rooms if you’re uncomfortable.” He spoke.
“No, I’m fine with the arrangements. I don’t want to inconvenience anyone.” You said as you set your bag down on the bed.
“You already have.” He muttered as he walked out. You were sure that he didn’t intend for you to hear it, but it still lingered in your mind regardless.
The night was a bit awkward. For the most part, everyone did their best to make you feel comfortable. They insisted that you join them for dinner, despite you saying that you weren’t that hungry, and you’d be fine. They even offered you some of the filtered water designated for hygienic purposes. You were grateful to finally not be alone, but you couldn’t shake Yoongi’s words out of your mind. Sure, they were definitely doing better than you’d been when it came to supplies, but their conditions weren’t ideal either. They remained hospitable, nonetheless.
The night rolled around quickly, and soon enough everyone began to make their way to their designated rooms. Yoongi laid in his bed silently, as he read his book. You wanted to speak to him, anything to break the awkwardness that engulfed the room, but you couldn’t find it within yourself to do so. Turning to face the wall opposite of Yoongi’s bed, you drifted off to sleep, deciding that you’d give him as much space as possible.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You woke up to the sun shining through the sheer curtains. Rubbing your eyes and letting out a deep yawn, you sat up and looked around the room. Yoongi’s bed was empty, sheets folded neatly with the book he read the previous night laying on top of his pillow.

You decided to change your clothes back to the ones you wore yesterday, minus the hoodie and went to go freshen up a bit before heading downstairs.

You stopped at the end as you heard what sounded like Yoongi speaking. You weren’t really one to eavesdrop but considering the fact that you were now sleeping under the same roof as a group of men you just met, you couldn’t help but listen.

“Namjoon, please! We’re already struggling enough as it is. What are we supposed to do when there’s nothing left?” Yoongi spoke. Although he seemed upset, his voice remained soft.

“We’re not throwing her out, Yoongi. I understand your concerns. I have them too, but it’d be wrong to just leave her to fend for herself.” Namjoon refuted.

“Oh, come on! She seems to have been doing fine for herself before.” Yoongi stated with a hint of sourness in his tone.

“Will both of you just shut up?” A voice that you knew belonged to Hobi objected. “Look, I know that we’re struggling, but she was too. That didn’t stop her from taking me in and offering me what little she had left. We are not going to kick her out. Besides, I made her a promise.” He continued.

A promise? You thought. Sure, everything from the night prior was a bit fuzzy but you didn’t recall him openly committing a promise to you. Perhaps it was one that he kept to himself. An unspoken promise that he made without your knowledge.

“What do you mean you made her a promise?” Another deep voice spoke, seeming as if it belonged to Taehyung.

It was then that you began wondering if they were having some conference in regards of what to do with you. Did the rest of the boys feel the same as Yoongi? They were all so kind to you that the question of whether or not they minded you being around hadn't even crossed your mind.

“She saved my life, and I promised that I would save hers.” Hobi said through a stern tone. He was so sweet to you and hearing how serious he was about this had taken you a bit by surprise.

Their voices began fading in and out as they appeared to be speaking over each other, and you seemingly had no clue whether to walk away or to stay where you were. You jumped a bit as you felt a hand on your shoulder.

“Y/N-ah, good morning!” You were greeted by Jimin who was sporting a bright smile. You cringed lightly at the knowledge that your cover may now be blown.

“Hi, Jimin.” You said softly.

“C'mon, let’s go get some breakfast.” He said in a cheery tone as he threw his arm over your shoulder and led you into the dining room where the previous debate was going on.

As you two walked in, you felt your face heat up. The four men were completely silent, all staring directly at you. It was obvious in that moment, that they knew you had been listening to their conversation. Your eyes naturally shifted towards the direction of Yoongi. He sat at the dining table across from Taehyung, eyes wide as he met your own.

“Why do you all look like you’ve seen a ghost?” Jimin jokingly asked, completely unaware of the building tension in the room.

“No reason at all. How’d you sleep, Y/N?” Hobi asked sweetly as he made his way over to you, resting his hands on your shoulders as if he was trying to create a barrier between you and the other three he was speaking with.

You looked up at him, the anxiety building in your chest. His eyes weren’t as bright as they’d previously been, yet he still looked at you as softly as he had before. His expression was one of compassion as if, without words, he was telling you not to worry about a thing. Feeling yourself relax a bit in his hold, you offered a weak smile before speaking.

“I slept fine, Hobi.”

Almost like clockwork, Jin and Jungkook made their way into the kitchen as well. Also seeming completely oblivious to the tension in the room.

“I’m starving!” Jungkook groaned as he made his way to the dining table.

“Me too, let’s eat.” Namjoon said with a clap.

During breakfast, everyone fell into their own conversations. No one dared to speak about what happened earlier. You sat in the middle, between Hobi and Jimin, who were laughing about old memories they had before the world went to shit. Across from you sat Yoongi, who remained silent with his head down as he picked at the scraps of food on his plate.

After everyone finished eating and cleaned up, Namjoon called for a “family meeting”. Much to your surprise, you were invited to join. Sat on the table were various pieces of paper, and a calendar that you could only assume belonged to the previous owners based on the markings that were on it.

“We need to discuss this week’s schedule. Obviously, our last supply run went to shit. So I’m thinking that we may need to make an extra trip to make up for it—“ Namjoon began. “Also, now that there’s eight of us, we should decide who is responsible for what this week.” He said as he slid a sheet to the middle of table labeled “Chores”.

Everyone began discussing who would be responsible for what this week, but you weren’t quite sure where you would fit in. For the most part whenever someone would ask what you wanted to be a part of, you sided with accompanying Hobi with whatever he was doing as it felt like the safe thing to do. Luckily for you, most of the chores were done in pairs so it worked out. Everyone agreed that it’d be best to send four people to do supply runs rather than the whole group, although no one could decide on how the groups would be split.

“I just don’t think it’d be fair to send someone out twice this week.” Jungkook stated.

“What if we just draw names or something?” Jin suggested. You listened as everyone began bickering about the arrangements, but it was hard to keep up as everyone spoke over each other. It wasn’t until Yoongi started speaking that everyone piped down.

“Why don’t we all go out instead of making two trips this week? We can do a group of four and three and one of us can stay back. Each group will head in a separate direction, and we’ll meet back up here.” He suggested.

You turned your attention back to Namjoon who seemed to be considering the idea. “That could work.” He said as he began drawing out a map. He wrote down various street names, including the street that you all were staying on before making circles around each one.

“Ok so this is where we are, and this is where we ran into trouble on our last run-“he began as he pointed to each location. “I’m thinking that the group of four can travel a bit further down and the group of three will go to the shopping center on the other side. That way, we’ll only be a couple blocks away from each other.” He explained and everyone agreed.

“Now we just need to figure out who is in each group.” Jin added.

“How about Jungkook, Hobi, Jin, and Taehyung as group one. Then me, Yoongi, and Namjoon as group two. And Y/N can stay here and keep a lookout.” Jimin suggested.

They all seemed to be satisfied with the plan, but you couldn’t help but feel a bit guilty. Maybe it was because of Yoongi’s comments or maybe it was just because you didn’t want to be alone again. Either way, something in you caused your mouth to work faster than your brain did.

“I can go!” You quickly said, causing everyone to face you. You looked around, your eyes catching Yoongi’s wide ones. He looked shocked and a tad confused as his mouth hung open slightly.

“Y/N you don’t need to do that, it’s dangerous. You can hang out here and keep an eye out for us.” Hobi said as he placed his hand on top of yours, once again sharing unspoken words with a look that said, please don’t.

“No, it’s ok. I want to. It’s the least I could do and besides, I need to contribute something. I can take Namjoon’s place in group two, and he can help us unpack when we get back.” You said, avoiding eye contact with Hobi.

“If you really want to go, then it’s fine with me. Jin and I will get everything ready tonight so you guys can leave tomorrow morning.” Namjoon said.

After the “family meeting” had concluded, you made your way back upstairs to yours and Yoongi’s room. Emptying out your backpack for Namjoon to prep and placing your gun into the bedside table.

“Y/N?” You turned as you heard Yoongi’s voice. He was standing in the doorway watching you.

“Hey, I was just about to take my bag downstairs.” You said as you attempted to walk past him, coming to a halt as his arm blocked your exit.

“You don’t have to go tomorrow. It’s ok if you’d rather stay here.”

“I want to go, Yoongi.” You stayed dryly.

“Look, if it’s about what I said. I didn’t mean— “

“This has nothing to do with what you said. I’m going because I want to, not because of you. And don’t say that you didn’t mean anything by it, because you did and that’s fine. I get that it’s an inconvenience to have me here, but I’m going to help out if I can.” You stated, cutting him off.

“I didn’t mean it that way.” He said, slightly above a whisper as he looked down at his feet.

“Whatever, it doesn’t matter anyways.” You said as you pushed your way through.

The rest of the day was full of preparation. Namjoon made everyone their own map with directions of each of the stores, along with a guide to get back to the house. You also discussed a backup plan in case anyone got lost or separated. As night rolled back around, everyone’s routine seemed to be somewhat the same with each pair dispersing to their rooms.

Yoongi managed to beat you to your room once again. Although this time, he wasn’t completely immersed within his book. He sat up as you walked in, and you could feel his eyes following you. However, you chose to ignore him this time as you crawled into bed and faced the wall. Perhaps he’s getting a taste of his own medicine.

You giggled as you looked at the pictures you’d taken of your boyfriend as he drove. The first couple were normal, but once he realized what you were doing, he began making the weirdest faces possible. You two had taken the weekend off to go on a trip to a cabin for your anniversary. You were super excited to get some proper alone time with him. You both had such busy schedules that it made vacations like this nearly impossible.

“This is a good one.” You said through a laugh as you added one of the pictures to your favorite's album.

“I probably look crazy.” He joked; eyes still glued to the road.

“You are crazy, baby.” You told him, laughing harder as he rolled his eyes at you. “Hey, how much longer until we get there?” You asked.

“We’re about ten minutes away. I’m going to stop at the gas station really quickly.” He told you as he pulled into the parking lot.

Once parked, he stepped out of the car to start pumping gas. You sat in the car for a moment, admiring the clear view of the mountains before deciding to hop out and take some pictures. You smiled to yourself as you found the perfect angle and began snapping as many photos as you could.

There was a slight gap in between the trees, and you wanted to add it to your collection. So, you moved to the other side of the parking lot to get a better view of it. You began messing with the filters on your phone and aimed the camera towards the trees to see how they’d look. You froze for a moment, swearing that you could see someone walking in between the trees. You began zooming in a bit to see what they were doing. They stopped walking for a moment and stood eerily still as they kept their head facing forward.

“What the fuck?” You said to yourself as you attempted to zoom in more. From what you could see, they seemed to be wearing clothes that were almost identical to Yoongi’s.

You rolled your eyes as a car flew down the road, blocking your line of sight. Once they were gone, you brought your phone back up and zoomed in again. Chills ran down your spine as you realized that the person was now staring directly at you. You quickly shoved your phone back into your pocket and got back into the car.

“You ready?” You jumped as Yoongi’s low voice pulled you from your thoughts.

“Y-yeah let’s go.” You said through a shaky voice as you tried to calm your nerves.

“Are you ok? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” He asked you sweetly as he placed a hand on top of yours, giving it a gentle squeeze.

“I’m fine. I just saw someone standing in the woods.” You said between deep breaths.

“There may be hiking trails down there. I wouldn’t worry about it. Besides, it doesn’t look like anyone is there now.” He comforted.

“I know, but this person looked so weird. Their movements seemed so robotic in a way. Actually, they kind of looked like you.” You told him, finally meeting his gaze.

“So, you’re telling me that you saw my doppelgänger and he likes hiking?” He lightheartedly joked in an attempt to ease the tension.

“You’re so dumb.” You laughed as you playfully smacked his arm.

“Hey, at least I don’t get freaked out by seeing people exercise.” He joked, raising his hands in defense.

“Shut up-“ you said through a laugh. “Come on, let’s get going.”

You weren’t on the road for long before you finally reached the cabin. It was absolutely gorgeous and although its age showed, it just gave it more character. You sat your bags down on the floor as you admired the interior decor. You smiled as you felt two, strong arms wrap around your waist.

“It’s so peaceful here.” Yoongi whispered, as he placed a few kisses on your neck before burying his head.

“It’s perfect.” You told him, turning around to face him and connecting your lips with his.

“How about we check out the hot tub?” He suggested.

“That sounds amazing.” You said, giving him a gentle kiss before heading upstairs to change.

You placed your bags on the bed and began searching for your swimming suit. You began to remove your clothes, pausing for a bit and looking around the room. You couldn’t shake the feeling that you were being watched. The curtains were open, allowing some sunlight in which made you assume that’s where the feeling came from. You closed them and proceeded to change.

The cabin was completely secluded and surrounded by trees, so it was unlikely that anyone could see you. The nearest cabin was miles away and this isn’t a hiking area. After changing, you made your way back downstairs.

“Baby, could you grab a couple of glasses of wine before you come outside?” You asked Yoongi who was searching for his swim trunks.

“Yeah, I’ll be out there in a minute.” He told you.

As you made your way outside, you smiled at the sound of birds singing. You felt as if this trip would be perfect for you and Yoongi. You didn’t have much trouble in your relationship per se, but things had gotten hard recently. You barely had time to see each other, and when you did, it was often spent sleeping or silently watching movies as both of you were too exhausted to speak. You missed him, even though you still had him.

You slowly crawled into the hot tub, feeling your shoulders relax as you sank into the hot water and allowed your eyes to close. You let out a deep sigh as you felt two hands began massaging your shoulders. You didn’t hear Yoongi come outside so you assumed he wanted to sneak up on you.

“Are you going to get in?” You asked softly, letting out a small laugh when he didn’t respond.

You opened your eyes and turned around once you no longer felt his hands. Your heart sank to your stomach as you looked around, realizing that no one was there. You jumped as you heard the patio door open.

“Sorry I took so long. Namjoon called to make sure we made it.” Yoongi said as he made his way to you, carrying two glasses of wine.

You didn’t say anything. You just looked at him with wide eyes, trying to make sense of what just happened. You began glancing between him and the trees behind you.

“Were you not already out here?” You asked as he crawled into the tub and handed you your glass.

“No.” He stated, although it sounded like more of a question. He looked at you with concern written all over his face as he saw how anxious you were. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah, it’s just…I just-“ you tried to speak but there was nothing you could say without sounding crazy. So, once again, you pushed the uneasy feeling away. “I’m fine. I think I’m just tired from the trip.” You finished.

“Well, come relax then.” He told you with an empathetic look as he extended his arms for you to join.

You rested your back against his chest, closing your eyes once more as he began playing with your hair.

“We should watch a scary movie tonight.” He suggested.

“You hate scary movies.” You laughed.

“Yeah, but you like them.” He stated simply, causing you to smile.

“I love you, baby.”

“I love you too, Y/N”

You two remained in the hot tub for a while, loving the way the hot water eased your sore muscles. Once you got out, you both went upstairs to take a shower before heading back down to the living room. You searched through movies on Netflix while Yoongi finished up dinner.

Once he was done, he brought you your food as he settled beside you on the couch, laughing a bit as he saw the title of the movie you picked.

“Cabin in the Woods?” He asked.

“Yeah, it feels fitting.” You responded as you started the movie and began eating.

Yoongi fell asleep towards the end of the movie, head laying on your shoulder as soft snores left his mouth. You smiled as you watched him, placing a gentle kiss on his forehead before gently lifting his head and placing it on the cushions. You got up and went outside through the patio door and lit a cigarette.

You leaned against the railings as you admired how clear the sky looked tonight. You turned your attention to the trees as you heard rustling. The sound caused you to stand up straight and squint your eyes as you tried to get a clearer view. You could’ve sworn that you saw something, but it wasn’t moving anymore.

You jumped as you saw a man peek his head out from behind the trees. It was the same man as before. The one who looked like Yoongi. You dropped your cigarette and ran inside, slamming the door shut and locking it before shutting the curtains.

The sound woke Yoongi up, causing him to run towards you.

“What happened?” He asked, placing his hands on your shoulders to steady you as you were shaking.

“There’s someone out there, Yoongi. You need to call the police.” You said, panicking, as you released yourself from his grip and began searching for your phone.

“What are you talking about?” He asked, following your every move as you ran around searching for the device.

“There’s fucking someone out there, Yoongi. And he fucking looks like you.” You faced him as tears began falling from your eyes.

“Baby, please breathe. You’re scaring me.” He said softly in an attempt to comfort you.

“I’m fucking scared, Yoongi. Fuck, it was the same guy I saw before, and he looks exactly like you. All this weird shit has been happening since we got here, and we need to leave.”

“What do you mean? What else has happened.” He asked, voice slightly raised. You didn’t need to fight, not right now. You pinched the bridge of your nose and began taking deep breaths.

“There was the guy in the woods, then I felt like someone was watching me when I was upstairs changing, and then I felt you massaging my shoulders outside only to find out that you’d been on the phone with Namjoon the whole goddamn time, Yoongi.” You told him, slightly screaming towards the end.

He stared at you in disbelief as he tried to make sense of everything you told him. He opened and closed his mouth a couple of times as if he wanted to speak, but the words wouldn’t come out.

“Why didn’t you say anything?” He asked you in a hushed tone.

“Because I didn’t want you to think that I was crazy. I thought that I was just tired from the trip and that my mind was just playing tricks on me-“

“Y/N-“ he attempted to cut you off, but to no avail.

“You said that there were hiking trails so I brushed it off-“ you continued, hands moving around frantically as you began pacing back and forth.

“Y/N-“

“And I thought that I just felt like I was being watched because the bedroom curtains were open-“

“For fucks sake, Y/N! Listen to me!” He yelled, causing you to pause. Yoongi never yelled at you. No matter how angry or frustrated he was, he never yelled, and it took you by surprise.

“I saw something too.” He told you.

“W-what?” You asked, barely above a whisper.

“When I was on the phone with Namjoon, I looked out of the kitchen window and I thought that I saw you by the car. I didn’t think anything of it and assumed that you were just grabbing something, but I walked towards the patio, and you were already in the hot tub.” He told you with a look of guilt on his face.

“Baby, you should’ve told me.” You said, as you walked over to him and cupped his face gently.

“I know. I just didn’t want to ruin this trip. I’m so sorry, Y/N.” He whispered as tears began forming in his eyes.

“Don’t apologize. You didn’t know.” You comforted, as you wrapped your arms around his neck.

“We need to call someone.” He reminded, warranting you to pull away, as you nodded in agreement.

You two began walking towards the living room, unsure if either of your phones had managed to slip between the cracks of the couch. You both paused and looked at each other as you heard a knock on the front door. You opened your mouth to speak, but you were quickly stopped by Yoongi as he put a finger to his lips, shushing you.

You both tiptoed to the door, careful not to make any sounds as you looked through the peephole. Your blood ran cold as you saw them. Two people who looked identical to both you and Yoongi. You wanted to back away. You wanted to stop looking, but you couldn’t. They knew you were in there and unbeknownst to you, they knew that you were looking right at them.

They both smiled eerily as they stared directly at the peephole with no sign of life visible within their eyes. Their faces began to warp and their limbs began contorting, and soon enough they no longer resembled you or Yoongi.

You backed away from the peephole, eyes wide and full of tears as you looked at Yoongi. You opened your mouth to speak, but came to a halt as they began banging on the door again, slightly knocking you back in the process. This time much louder and forceful. Yoongi pulled you behind him and began backing up. With each bang, the door pushed inward.

You frantically looked up at your boyfriend who was also crying but doing his best to maintain composure for you. His eyes met yours for a moment, and once they did, the loud thud of the door hitting the wooden floor echoed throughout the house. You both looked up, and within a second screams began filling the walls.

There’s quite a bit of foreshadowing thrown in here so I’d love to hear y’all’s theories 🙊. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It's now been two days since you met Hobi and his friends, and today you were going to help them look for supplies. You couldn't quite comprehend why you’d volunteered to go out. You didn't have nearly as much experience as they did when it came to dealing with the zombies. Yeah, maybe it was easier to face them when you were part of a group, but you had been alone up until now.

You had the basic knowledge of how to deal with them, but no amount of preparation or intelligence could take away the overwhelming reality of the current state of the world. The truth is, nothing is guaranteed. There are no promises that could be made in regard to someone’s safety, they’d all be empty.

The harsh reality is that at any given moment, one of us could turn into a monster. Whether it happens because you’ve been bitten and are now infected, or you simply give in to the darkness inside of you. Either way, becoming something that you don’t want to become seems somewhat inevitable at this point.

You already felt it from the moment this mess began. You saw it when you fired a bullet directly into a zombie’s head to save Hobi. Sure, zombies were just a shell of the person that they once were, but they were still a person at some point. A human being with thoughts, feelings, goals, and aspirations. Someone who was loved by others and loved those people right back. You couldn’t help but wonder if the only difference between zombies and those who were still alive was as simple as a heartbeat.

There was no time to reconsider the solidity of your moral compass. The boys took you in and you needed to help them. Fresh water and a warm meal was somewhat unheard of these days, but that didn’t stop them from doing what they could for you.

You dressed yourself in a pair of jeans, along with a long sleeved shirt and boots before tying your hair up into a ponytail and sliding on a black baseball cap. You gave yourself one final look over before grabbing your gun and heading downstairs. Everyone else was already down there, standing in the dining room. Everyone’s bags were laid out on the dining table along with various weapons. You were greeted by Jimin who was leaning against the countertop.

“Ah, Y/N!” He exclaimed, drawing everyone’s attention towards you, as he motioned for you to stand by him.

“Good morning, everyone.” You greeted as you joined Jimin.

Much to your surprise, Hobi didn’t rush over to greet you as he did the previous morning. Instead, he remained silent as he stood in the corner by Yoongi who also kept quiet as his sight remained glued to the floor.

Great, they’re both upset with me. You thought to yourself. You understood Hobi’s hesitation when it came to you deciding to join them on a supply run. I mean, you were going in a smaller group opposite of his, and according to his statement to Taehyung the other day, he promised himself that he’d protect you. Yoongi, however, was a mystery. One that you were sure you’d figure out one day, but today was not that day.

“Are you ready?” Namjoon asked as he walked over to you, handing you your bag.

“I’m ready.” You said between a deep breath.

“Each group has a radio, including myself. They’re long range so team one and team two will be able to alert each other in case they need help. I won’t be able to hear you all once you pass the halfway point.” He said, referring to the location in between each team’s destination and the house. “Keep your gun in your back pocket but avoid using it if you don't have to. You don’t want to alert more zombies than you need to. I placed a miniature hatchet in your bag, use that if you can.” He finished as you nodded in response.

“We’ll be taking mine and Yoongi’s cars this time, so let’s try to get as much as we can.” Jin added.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You all made your way outside and began loading up the separate vehicles. You were in the middle of sorting through your bag, pulling out the hatchet to have it prepared when you felt a hand on your shoulder. You turned around and were met with Hobi’s kind eyes.
“Hi.” He said softly with a weak smile.
“Hey. Listen, I know that you want me stay back but-“ you began but were interrupted as Hobi gently held up your arm, taking off the bracelet on his wrist and placing it on yours. “What’s this?” You asked as you began examining it. It was purple and twine-like with beads that spelled out “hope” in the middle.
“This is my favorite bracelet. I never take it off.” He stated simply, as he kept a gentle hold on your wrist.
“So, why are you giving it to me?” You asked, a bit bewildered.
“Because it’s my favorite, which means that you have no choice but to be safe and make it back home so you can return it to me.” He said sweetly, causing you to reach up to wrap your arms around his neck.
“I promise to give it back to you.” You whispered as you pulled away to look at him. He didn’t try to stop you from going. Didn’t try to argue with you about it. As much as he didn’t like it, he respected your decision and accepted it as your own to make.
“We should get going. Be safe out there, Y/N.”
“You be safe too, Hobi.” You told him before climbing into the backseat. Yoongi entered the driver's side with Jimin in the passenger. You all gave Namjoon a final wave before pulling off, following behind Jin’s car.
The car ride was silent. Even Jimin, who was typically a ball of energy, kept quiet. It seemed like everyone was nervous about the trip and you couldn’t help but wonder if it was the same for the other group.
“Namjoon Hyung, we’ve made it to the halfway point.” Jimin spoke into the radio, letting Namjoon know that we would no longer be in contact with him.
Your anxiety arose slightly as the car in front of you made a left while your car made a right. This was it. No going back now. Yoongi drove for a few more minutes before the car came to a stop.
“Fuck.” He said, causing you to look out of the front window. The rest of the path was blocked off by a row of cars.
“What should we do?” Jimin asked as he looked at Yoongi.
“There’s no way for us to drive through. We’re going to have to walk. We aren’t too far away from the shop.” He groaned as he began pulling the car to the side of the road before parking. “Radio the other team, let them know that we’re continuing on foot.”
Jimin did as he was told, letting Jin know that our path was blocked and that the only way we’d get through is by walking.
“Alright, we need to move carefully. I don’t know if those cars were placed there in an attempt to keep zombies out or people. Either way, we stay alert and don’t draw any attention to ourselves.” Yoongi said as he glanced at both you and Jimin.
You hadn’t considered that the barrier might’ve been created to prevent people from getting through. The fact that some people were still alive was new to you.
“What do you mean, could there be another group here?” You asked him.
“I don’t know. Hopefully we don’t find out.” He stated simply. You turned your attention to Jimin who seemed as anxious as you were.
“We’ll be okay.” Jimin said and you weren’t sure if he was trying to reassure you or himself. Either way, it wasn’t very convincing.
You all made your way out of the car, weapons in hand as you began making your journey. Yoongi led the way with Jimin behind and you following. Slowing down as you all came across a sign hanging from a traffic light reading “TURN BACK”.
“Let’s keep moving.” Yoongi whispered.
As you reached your destination, you all found yourselves staring at the entrance. The doors and windows were all locked and none of you wanted to risk breaking them as it’d alert anything around you.
“Let’s check the rear entrance.” You said, as you began circling the building with the others trailing behind you. The back door was locked as well but you noticed a window to the right side of it that was ajar. It wasn’t excessively high up, but there’s no way that you all could climb through on your own.
“One of us could climb in through here and open the door for the others.” You stated as you turned to face the two behind you.
“Jimin-ah, lift me up. I’ll let you both in.” Yoongi said as he began taking his backpack off.
“No, I can do it.” You said, handing your bag to Yoongi.
“Y/N, are you sure that’s a good idea?” Jimin asked you with a hint of hesitation in his tone.
“She’s not going. We have no clue what’s waiting for us on the other side.” Yoongi stated sternly.
“I wasn’t asking for permission. What makes you think that you can tell me what I can and can’t do?” You argued.
“I’m the one leading this goddamn team.” He snapped back.
“Well, I’m the only one with a gun, Yoongi. And correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure that I’m the only one who knows how to use one.” You refuted as you looked at the both of them.
Yoongi sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. You were right and he knew it. You were the only one within your group who could fire a guaranteed shot. “Hoseok’s going to fucking kill me.” He groaned.
“Y/N, get on my shoulders and see if anything is in there.” Jimin told you, doing his best to cut through the tension. You nodded as you carefully climbed onto his shoulders as Yoongi kept a hand on your back to keep you from falling.
You attempted to open the window more, stopping abruptly and cringing a bit as you heard it begin to squeak. The wind started to pick up, allowing the scent of the room to air out. You began smelling the familiar stench of a rotting corpse, causing you to gag a bit as you covered your nose with your sleeve. It was then that you noticed the amount of dried blood all over the floor and walls.
There were some hidden corners in the room, and you were unsure if a zombie or another person could be occupying them. You were taken from your thoughts as you heard a light growl. You turned your attention to the sound, breath catching in your lungs as you saw it. Out of the shadows, a zombie appeared. It was a male and he looked young, probably in his early twenties.
As he got closer, you saw something that you were sure would never leave your mind. His eyes were gone, almost as if they’d been perfectly gouged from his head. It was clear that he hadn’t done it to himself, as you noticed that his wrists had been zip tied together and a sign hung from his neck reading “TRAITOR”.
As he dragged his feet across the floor, it became evident that he couldn’t see you. You looked down at Yoongi who was watching you with a concerned expression, as he saw how uneasy you looked. You said nothing, however. Instead, you raised a finger to your lips, signaling him to remain silent. Namjoon’s words lingered in your mind, reminding you not to use your gun unless you absolutely had to.
You carefully began crawling through the window, attempting to remain as quiet as possible. There was a desk directly below the window with papers and cans scattered around it. Your movements remained slow as you entered the other side, doing your best not to knock anything over in the process. Luckily, you succeeded but now you were wondering how you’d get down without knocking anything over.
You crouched down and placed your hands on the table for support. You managed to guide your feet to the floor and readied yourself, gripping the hatchet in your hand tightly. You took small steps to the creature who was swaying side to side. You felt a hint of guilt as your eyes remained fixed on his hollow, bloody sockets.
“I’m sorry.” You whispered, causing the creature to open his mouth and let out a deep groan. You cut him off as your hatchet made connection with his skull, landing right in the middle. He remained still for a moment, mouth still hanging open before he began to fall. You carefully guided his lifeless body to the floor, refusing to let him go until he was completely flat. You didn’t know if anything else was roaming around here, and the last thing you needed was a loud thud giving away your position.
You released a shaky breath that you hadn’t realized you’d been holding as you looked at him. He died twice. You thought to yourself. You didn’t know who he was or what he did, but you knew that he didn’t deserve to die that way. It was unclear if he was bitten before he’d been tortured or after. Either way, he didn’t pass away peacefully. He was murdered brutally.
You shook your head as you tried to push away those thoughts, guiding your attention back to the task at hand. You turned to the door, carefully pushing it open to allow the two men to enter. Jimin’s eyes met yours and he quickly came to check on you. It wasn’t until that moment that you realized you’d been crying.
“Holy fuck.” Yoongi whispered causing Jimin to turn his attention to whatever Yoongi was looking at.
“How could someone do that?” Jimin said, now understanding why you were so upset.
“It doesn’t matter. He can rest now. C'mon, let’s get what we need and get out of here.” You said in an emotionless tone as you began wiping your tears.
“She’s right, Jimin. Let’s go.” Yoongi’s tone was a bit different than it had been before. His words were soft, but there was a hint of sadness coating them. Maybe he was going through the same thought process as you were. You turned to face him. The look he gave you was one of empathy, and he offered you a reassuring nod that you reciprocated.
Yoongi began leading the way once again, cautiously stepping out of the room as Jimin followed. You stopped in the doorway, turning to face the corpse once again. “I hope you’re at peace.” You whispered before following the other two.
You all searched around for supplies, finding various canned goods and some drinks as well. You grabbed some hygienic products that you found scattered along the floor before continuing your search. You paused as you came across some books. You looked around to make sure that the others weren’t watching you before directing your attention back to them.
You weren’t sure what it was, but something within you felt the need to make amends with Yoongi. Sure, he was being a bit of an asshole earlier, but we were all just trying to do our best to survive. You thought for a moment before grabbing a couple of them to give to Yoongi once you all made it back home, placing them in the front pocket of your bag. You began looking for more supplies again, finding more cans of food hidden underneath one of the shelves.
You stretched your arm out as you tried to reach all of them, your hands brushing against something small and flat. You laughed lightly as you inspected the item. It was a chocolate bar, still wrapped perfectly. You began searching for a date to make sure it was still good, letting out a satisfied hum when you saw that it wasn’t expired yet. You placed it in your bag next to Yoongi’s books. You figured you could give it to Hobi when you returned his bracelet to him.
Once you all were certain that you’d properly cleaned out the shop, you began making your way back to the car.
“We made it!” Jimin said buoyantly as you all climbed into your seats.
You were relieved to say the least, but you still couldn’t shake that image from your mind. You’ve seen zombies before and you knew that each of them had a story, but this was the first time that you’d witnessed something so intense.
“I’m going to check on the others.” Yoongi said as he reached for the radio.
“Seokjin Hyung?” Yoongi spoke into the device.
“Yeah, are you all alright?” Jin responded rather quickly.
“We’re okay. We’re heading back now. Are you guys almost done?” Yoongi asked.
“We’ve just left. See you soon.” Jin said.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The drive back wasn’t nearly as silent as before, but the energy was still lackluster.

“I think we should tell the others about what we saw. We don’t know if the people who did that are still out there.” Yoongi stated. You didn’t want to relive that experience, but you understood where he was coming from. So, you agreed, as did Jimin. If someone could do something like that to someone they knew, then what would they do to complete strangers?

As you approached the house, you saw Namjoon and the others unloading the first car. They all turned their direction to your group, waving and offering big smiles. You barely had time to step out of the car before Hobi ran up to you, embracing you in a tight hug which you reciprocated.

“You made it!” He said brightly.

“I promised you I would.” You laughed.

“I missed you.” He said as he pulled away, keeping his hands on your shoulders.

“I missed you too, Hobi. Actually, I got you something.” You told him. You turned to grab your bag and opened the front pocket to redeem the chocolate bar before handing it to him. “I only found one, so don’t let the others see.” You whispered.

“You should keep it for yourself then!” He said with wide eyes as he tried to give it back to you, causing you to cross your arms.

“Nope, I got it for you. Someone so sweet should have something sweet.” You said, causing him to smile bigger than he already was. You weren’t sure how it was even possible, but you enjoyed the view, nonetheless.

“Thank you, Y/N! Let’s split it.” He insisted.

“Whatever you want, Hobi.” You agreed, motioning for him to hide it as the others began walking up to you, greeting you with warm smiles.

They were happy to see you, and you were just as happy to see them. You didn’t know them well at all, but you still found yourself comforted by their presence.

After everyone unloaded their bags onto the dining table, the boys began looking through everything. Seokjin’s team had a great haul, also finding various canned goods and drinks along with a few snacks like chips and protein bars that were still good. You managed to sneak upstairs to hide the books you grabbed for Yoongi. You placed them in the bedside table along with your gun before heading back downstairs.

All of the items had been put away into the cabinets and everyone was sitting at the table, chatting away as Namjoon finished plating the food he’d made for us. Just like the previous day, you sat in between Hobi and Jimin. Namjoon passed out bowls of soup to everyone. No one’s bowls were completely full as we needed to make sure things lasted as long as possible.

Everyone began talking amongst each other and this time you allowed yourself to join them. You felt as if you were getting to know them better as they told you about their lives’ when everything was normal, and you told them about yours. Jungkook told you about all of his tattoos, and you two joked about getting matching ones when all of this ended. If all of this ended.

You realized that you’d never given Hobi back his bracelet, and it seemed like he forgot to ask for it back.

“Here, I forgot to give this back to you.” You said softly, holding the piece of jewelry in your hand for him to take.

“You keep it.” He told you.

“But it’s your favorite.”

“It is, but I want you to hold onto it for a bit longer. Think of it as your lucky charm.”

You thought for a moment as you put the bracelet back on. You wanted to give him something in return. Something that would inspire him to stay safe at all costs, because he knew that he’d need to return it to you at some point. It felt like a lightbulb turned on when you realized that your hair was still in a ponytail, and you were still wearing your hat.

“Choose.” You told him, holding both your hat and your scrunchie in each hand. He began tapping his finger against his chin in an animated manner.

“How about this? It’s basically the same thing.” He said as he pointed to your scrunchie, causing you to laugh a bit as you slid the item onto his wrist.

“There, now we both have lucky charms.”

Everyone finished their meals, but we all remained at the table. Far too engrossed in our conversations to be bothered with getting up from our seats.

“Everyone-“ Yoongi spoke loudly, drawing everyone’s attention. “Jimin, Y/N, and I witnessed something during our trip that we think you all should know about.” He finished. You and Jimin shared an uncomfortable look with each other. Neither of you wanted to talk about it, but you knew that it needed to be done.

“What happened?” Namjoon asked inquisitively.

You guys told them everything. About the cars, the sign in the road, the zombie. Every weird thing that you witnessed. You made sure to avoid mentioning the fact that you entered the building on your own, knowing that Hobi would be pissed at Yoongi and Jimin for allowing it. They didn’t express it, but they noticed what you were doing, and they were grateful for it.

“That’s awful.” Tae said as he sighed deeply at the end of the story.

“You guys didn’t see anyone around?” Jin asked.

“No, we didn’t. We weren’t sure if they’d left or if they were dead now too.” You told him.

“I’m just glad that you all made it back safely.” Jungkook stated.

“This isn’t good. There’s no telling how long that guy had been there.” Namjoon said, somewhat stating the obvious. Although, we were all thinking the same thing.

“What should we do? I mean, if they’re still alive and they’re still around, what’s to say we won’t run into them?” Jin asked.

“Maybe we should consider moving?” Hobi suggested.

It was an uncomfortable thing to think about, but this was the reality you all were faced with. The people who killed that man could still be alive and for all you knew, they could still be in the area. No one could say how many there were of them. We couldn’t just take a risk and assume that we’d be fine.

“It’s something to think about. We’ve talked about going somewhere else when we couldn’t find any more supplies, but we never planned for something like this.” Namjoon said.

You all remained silent for a moment as everyone began weighing out the options, not that there was a lot to begin with.

“Y/N, I need something from you.” Namjoon said, causing you to sit up and give him your full attention.

“What is it?” You asked.

“I need you to teach us all how to shoot.” He stated, causing everyone to turn to you.

“I can do that. We need to find somewhere that we can practice without making too much noise.” You told them.

“I agree. I know we were trying to avoid making two trips this week, but we’re going to need more guns. Ideally, everyone would be armed.” Namjoon said.

“There’s a shooting range not too far from here. I think that they sold rifles as well for hunting.” Yoongi stated.

“We can start searching there. Maybe we can find some suppressors as well, it’d make training a lot easier." You responded.

“It’s settled. I’ll go with you and everyone else will stay here.” Namjoon stated.

“Shouldn’t half of us go? I can come too. It’s dangerous for both of you to go alone.” Hobi asked.

“It is dangerous, which is exactly why you all need to stay here. A group is too noticeable. I’m not sending Y/N out by herself, and I don’t know enough about guns. Besides, I stayed back today.” Namjoon told him.

“We’ll be ok. Maybe you guys could try securing the house a bit more? It would give us some extra protection until we decide where we’re going.” You stated to everyone, but you were mainly speaking to Hobi in an attempt to calm his nerves.

“We still have a few hours of daylight left. We can go now.” You told Namjoon.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Everyone who was hanging back remained at the table, discussing ways that they could secure the house. You ran upstairs to grab your things and headed back down.
“Here.” Yoongi said as he placed his car keys in your hand. “Namjoon doesn’t have a lot of experience driving. You can take my car. It has more gas in it than Jin’s.” He continued.
“Thank you.” You said as you placed the keys in your pocket.
“It’s no problem. Just don’t wreck it.” He lightheartedly joked.
“Oh, I’m going to drive it into the nearest tree.” You said sarcastically, causing him to roll his eyes but you could see the smirk that he was trying to hide.
“Are you ready?” Namjoon asked as he grabbed his bag.
“Yep, let’s go.” You told him before quickly making your way over to Hobi. “We’ll be back before you know it.” You whispered to him, trying not to interrupt the others who were still talking.
“I know you will. We still have a chocolate bar to split.” He said, causing you to let out a small laugh.
Yoongi wasn’t lying when he said that the range wasn’t far. It took less than 10 minutes to get there, which was relieving. You felt as if you and Namjoon could grab what you needed without much trouble. As you parked the car across the street from the store, you couldn’t help the confusion building inside of you. The windows were still intact, seeming as if no one had attempted to get in.
“Don’t you think it’s weird that no one’s broken in?” You asked as you turned to face Namjoon.
“A little bit. I think that they may have protective glass. Maybe that’s why?” He suggested.
“I guess that could be it. How in the hell are we supposed to get in then?”
“We’ll just have to scope out the area. I can try to pick the lock if I need to.” He said, causing you to nod.
As you both made your way to the store entrance, you began looking through the windows in search of any zombies or people, just as Jimin had instructed you to do earlier in the day. Everything seemed perfectly intact. No guns were missing from the walls behind the counter. There was no indication that someone had gone in and trashed the place, it all looked untouched.
“I’m going to check around the back. Maybe there’s an entry point there.” You told Namjoon as he began fumbling with the lock, letting out a low hum in response.
As you began circling the building you felt as if you were repeating your steps, just at a different store. You knew that history tended to repeat itself, but you’d hoped that it wouldn’t happen to you within the same day.
Once you reached the back of the building, you paused for moment and peeked around the corner as you noticed a truck parked in the back. Your intuition seemed to be screaming at you. Sure, there were tons of abandoned cars everywhere, but something in you made you feel as if that one still belonged to someone.
You quickly made your way to the front of the range to let Namjoon know what you saw, but you froze as you reached your destination. The door hung wide open with no sign of the man you came here with. He could’ve easily gotten in on his own, but you knew that he wouldn’t have just left you. You took a deep breath before readying your gun as you snuck into the building.
You carefully peeked around each corner as you began heading down the hallway. You slowed down a bit as you heard sounds of a struggle and a voice that belonged to your friend.
“Get the fuck off of me!” He yelled.
“No, not until you tell me why you’re here. Are you alone?” You heard another man’s voice tell him.
“For fucks sake I was looking for a gun and I’m by myself.” Namjoon said. He wasn’t going to let this random man know that you were with him.
You peeked around the corner with caution, the man’s back was facing you as he had Namjoon pinned the floor with a knife to his neck. You slowly creeped up behind him, putting the gun to his head and clicking it.
“Drop your weapon and get off of him.” You said sternly, hoping that he couldn’t sense the shaking of your hands.
The man did as he was told, dropping the knife beside him and standing up with his hands raised. He attempted to turn around to face you, but you pressed the gun harder against him, causing him to stop with a flinch.
“Don’t fucking move unless I say so!” You yelled as you began pushing him, directing him to stand against the wall. You glanced at Namjoon who was trying to catch his breath as he stood up.
“Go find something to tie him up with.” You told him, cocking your head to the side as to guide him.
“L-look, I’m sorry. I wasn’t going to hurt him. I just wanted to know who he was.” The man stuttered.
“Don’t lie to me.” You told him.
“We can work this out! You guys can take whatever you need, and we’ll go on about our days.” He pleaded.
“Something tells me that it won’t be that simple.” You told him.
“I found some rope.” Namjoon said as he sprinted back into the room.
“Put your hands behind your back.” You instructed the man, who did as he was told.
“Tie him up.” You directed Namjoon as you kept the gun pressed to the man’s head.
Namjoon quickly did as you instructed him to do, unsure of what the end plan was. To be honest, you didn’t know either. You were just trying to find a way to keep the two of you safe without having to injure the man.
“Here.” You whispered as you carefully guided Namjoon's right hand to take the place of yours holding the gun. “Keep an eye on him. If he moves, pull the trigger.” You finished, making sure to state the last sentence loud enough for the man to hear.
Once you were sure that Namjoon was in a good position, you quickly grabbed both of your bags and made your way to the front of the store to fill them up. You grabbed everything that you could including bullets, handguns, suppressors, and the two hunting rifles that were hanging on the wall.
You began loading one of the rifles that was hanging by its strap on your shoulder and headed back to Namjoon. The man was babbling on about any and everything in an attempt to persuade the two of you to release him.
“You won’t get away with this!” He cried. “My friends will come looking for me.”
“Listen to me-“ you said, cutting him off. “We are going to leave and you aren’t going to try and stop us. I’m not going to kill you, but I promise you that if you or any of your friends try to find us, I will not hesitate. I will kill each and every one of you. Do you understand me?” You growled.
“Y-yes. I understand.” He whined.
“Good. Get down on your knees, do not turn around.” You instructed, as you handed Namjoon back his bag.
Once the man was on the floor, you began backing out of the room with Namjoon following you. You quickly closed the door and grabbed a chair, placing it underneath the doorknob before hastily returning to the car and speeding off.
“Shit!” Namjoon breathed.
You didn’t respond. Too focused on the road and checking your mirrors to make sure that you weren’t being followed.
“You saved my life, Y/N. Thank you.” Namjoon expressed gratefully.
“You don’t need to thank me. You would’ve done the same.” You breathed, slowly relaxing a bit when you were a good distance away from the building.
“I know, but still. I wouldn’t have made it out of there if it weren’t for you.”
“Do you think he was being honest about his friends?” You questioned as his words replayed in your mind.
Namjoon signed deeply before responding. Shaking his head lightly. “I don’t know.” He admitted as he turned to face you.
You simply nodded as you bit your lip and attempted to fight the tears that were burning your eyes. You knew that you did what you needed to do. The man would’ve killed the both of you had you not threatened him, but there was still a sense of guilt as you felt your humanity fading.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The two of you walked through the front door, finally relaxing a bit. The others were quick to try and greet you, but you remained silent as you looked at all of the faces around you. Smiles slowly fading as they saw the distressed look on both yours and Namjoon’s faces.

“What’s wrong?” Jungkook asked, eyes bouncing between you and the man stood beside you.

“We ran into another survivor.” Namjoon stated.

You weren’t even sure how it happened, but everyone ended up in the living room. Eyes glued to Namjoon as he told them what happened. You, however, weren’t listening. Instead, you sat on the floor with your legs crossed as you began looking through the bags and loaded each of the guns. It wasn’t until a voice called your name that you looked up. Everyone was staring at you in disbelief.

“Y/N?” Taehyung called out softly. “Are you alright?” He asked, his tone laced with concern.

“I’m fine.“ A lie. “I promise.“ Another lie. Without another word, you returned your attention to the weapons laid in front of you.

“We don’t have much time. I don’t know if that guy was being honest or not, but I don’t want to wait around to find out. Y/N will teach us how to use the guns and we’ll prepare to move.” Namjoon announced.

That’s two lives you’ve saved. Two lives within the span of two days. You weren’t sure what was happening to you, but it seemed as if by the snap of a finger, something changed. You no longer felt guilty. You no longer felt afraid.

Looking at the men around you, the ones you were so grateful for, you felt nothing except determination. Not a single person or thing would come between you and your friends. Each and every single one of you would make it through, together.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It’s now been one week since you ran into another survivor. The week was one of preparation. Preparing to move, while also teaching everyone how to handle a gun. Everyone seemed to pick up on it relatively quickly, some a bit more hesitant than others. The questions never ceased to exist. Everyone’s nerves had peaked. The question of whether or not we’d ever have to use these weapons against another human being lingered incessantly. No one knew what the future would hold. We just knew that we’d be ready for anything.
Jungkook was a good shot. Hell, he even had the potential to be better than you were. With his newfound skill, you opted to give him the second rifle. Everyone agreed that it’d be best to take shifts keeping watch. In five hour, increments, you all took turns. It had been decided that the same system would stay in place when it came to driving. There’d be no stopping unless it was to give the current driver a break.
The countryside seemed like a good place to go. Far less crowded, and fewer chances of running into people. The biggest issue, being so far away from everything else. Supply runs could quickly become a problem that no one knew how to handle.
You fought sleep as you leaned back in your chair, rifle resting beside you. Your eyes found a routine of slowly shutting before shooting open as you shook your head. Every time you closed your eyes, you saw that zombie's face. You almost created an image in your mind of what he would’ve looked like before he was defiled.
It was hard to admit it, but you’d barely slept all week. Each time you managed to doze off, the same exact nightmare would play over and over again. It always began with you in the grocery store with a man. The two of you went back and forth, screaming at each other about loyalty.
“You lied to me!” A voice would yell. It sounded like yours, but it didn’t feel right.
“I was going to tell you, I promise!” The man cried.
“No, you weren’t! You’re a fucking traitor!” The voice mimicking yours would fight back.
“What are you doing?” The man whispered as he backed into a corner.
“It’s so funny. Even when your mouth swears that you’re innocent, your eyes tell another story. And quite frankly, I can’t stand to look at them anymore.” The voice laughed through tears.
A cold sensation crept up your arms, covering them in goosebumps. You looked at your right hand, a broken piece of glass rested against your palm. You squeezed it tightly, ignoring the pain as the warm, red liquid dripped down your wrist. You ran towards the man and began stabbing him in each of his eyes. Screams filled the room, but nothing could stop you.
“Y/N?” A voice whispered, but you ignored it.
“Y/N?” The voice called again. This time, a bit louder. It didn’t matter though. You were too angry to stop.
“Y/N!” You shot up in your chair, chest rising and falling quickly as you tried to catch your breath. “Are you okay?”
You turned to face Taehyung who was bent down to your eye level, one hand gently gripping your shoulder and the other rested on your knee as if to steady you. You looked around the room as your breathing began to level out. It was just a nightmare. You thought.
“Fuck, I’m sorry, Tae. I must’ve dozed off.” You apologized. You didn’t even realize that you subconsciously placed your hand on top of his as it rested on your knee.
“It’s fine, Y/N. Were you dreaming?” He asked softly.
“Something like that.” You whispered.
“We don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to, but I’m here if you do.” He told you.
“Thank you, Tae, but I think I just need to rest.” Truthfully, you did want to talk about it, but what were you supposed to say? How could you explain that you’ve been having these vivid nightmares, and they make you feel like you’re losing it?
“Try to get some sleep, Y/N.” He said as he stood up and extended his hand for you to take.
You offered a weak smile as you grabbed your rifle and went back to yours and Yoongi’s room. Much to your surprise, he was wide awake and reading the same book that he was when you first came here.
“Hey.” He greeted lowly as he directed his attention to you.
“Hi.” You sighed. “Can’t sleep?” You asked him as you sat on the edge of your bed, facing him.
“No. I can’t stop thinking about tomorrow.” He admitted.
Tomorrow was the day that you moved. Unsure of where you’d end up but knowing that you’d figure it out when you got there. Everyone said that they were ready, but it felt more like a figure of speech. None of you were prepared to let go of everything that you’d grown accustomed to.
“We’ll be okay.” You attempted to reassure him.
“We don’t know what’s out there, Y/N.”
“You’re right. We don’t know what’s out there, but whatever it may be, we’ll face it together.” You told him.
The two of you sat in silence for a bit, too consumed by your own thoughts and worries to even have the slightest of clues on how to comfort the other. You glanced at the book that rested in his lap, suddenly remembering that you never gave him the ones that you found.
“I got you something.” You told him as you grabbed the books from the side table and sat on his bed beside him.
“Where did you find these?” He questioned as he inspected the covers of the books with wide eyes.
“I grabbed them when we were at the store. I meant to give them to you that night, but with everything going on, it slipped my mind.” You shrugged.
“Thank you for this, Y/N. Really, thank you.” He said gratefully as his eyes met yours.
“You’re welcome, Yoongi.” You smiled as you made your way back to your bed, tucking yourself in. This time, however, you didn’t turn your back to Yoongi.
He did the same, after setting the books on his table. The two of you fell into casual conversation for hours. At first, it just seemed as if neither of you were tired enough to fall asleep, but after a while it became evident that you were fighting sleep to keep talking.
You told Yoongi about your parents and how you ended up in Seoul in the first place. He listened to everything with intent, and when it was his turn to tell his story, you extended the same courtesy. Despite the bickering that frequently occurred between you two, Yoongi was becoming a source of comfort. You hadn’t realized how safe you felt while sharing a room with him.
Although he had a hard exterior, you could see the softness within him, and you were sure that he’d been such a gentle soul before all of this. As the conversations slowed down, the two of you drifted in and out of sleep, and your nightmares consumed your mind once again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“Do you have everything?” You turned to look at Hobi who was standing in the doorway waiting for you. You did a final look around the room, trying to figure out if you were forgetting anything important.

“I think so.” You told him as you walked towards him, your bag in one hand and your rifle in the other.

“I guess we’re ready then.” He said before you made your way outside to meet the others.

The sun hadn’t fully risen yet, causing the sky to have an orange glow. Everyone agreed to leave as early as possible, the last thing you needed was to get stuck driving in the dark.

“Y/N, do you want to ride with us?” Jin asked you as he loaded bags into the trunk of his car.

“Sure. Who’s got the first shift?” You asked as you handed him your bag.

“I’ll go first. We’re going to follow Yoongi since Namjoon has the map and is riding with him.” He told you, causing you to nod.

You climbed into the backseat beside Hobi as Jin and Jungkook sat in the front. You glanced at the house one last time as Jin drove off, following behind Yoongi and the others.

“You all should try to sleep while you can, we may be on the road for a while.” Jin stated.

“Way ahead of you, Hyung.” Jungkook said as he rested his head against the window with his jacket covering his face, causing you to giggle.

Your head rested against Hobi’s shoulder, and your arm wrapped around his. You subconsciously fidgeted with the scrunchie around his wrist while you watched the buildings pass by through the window.

“Are you not tired?” Hobi whispered.

You shook your head gently before looking up to meet his gaze. You hadn’t realized how close your faces were to each other as your tired eyes held contact with his own. His face hovered slightly above yours, causing the hairs on the back of your neck to stand. Was he getting closer or were you just extremely exhausted?

You both jumped slightly as Jungkook’s loud snoring began taking place of the silence within the car.

“He’s like a baby I swear.” Jin groaned. You laughed awkwardly as you looked down at your hands that rested against Hobi’s.

“Well, there goes our chances of getting any rest.” He lightheartedly joked, attempting to cut through the building tension between you two.

“It’s ok. We’ll just make him drive next.” You laughed, causing Hobi to smile.

Your head found solace on his shoulder once against as his rested against yours. After a few moments, you could hear his breaths slow a bit, indicating that he’d fallen asleep. You decided that you’d attempt to do the same, closing your eyes and hoping that your mind would give you a break from the nightmares.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You sat up when the car jerked gently as it came to a complete stop. You began looking through the windows, noticing that you were surrounded by trees.
“Jungkookie, it’s time to switch places.” Jin said as he shook the sleeping man gently, causing him to groan as he removed the jacket covered his face.
“How long have we been driving?” You asked.
“It’s been about three and a half hours. If anyone wants to get out and stretch, you should do it now.” Jin said.
“I’ve gotta piss.” Hobi said as he stepped out of the car.
“Me too.” Jungkook followed. Shortly, you were the only one left sitting in the car.
“Do you want to get out for a minute, Y/N?” Jin asked as he peeked his head through the door.
“Yeah. Actually, I need to go too.” You admitted as you got out.
You began scoping out the area to find a spot that was somewhat hidden. You noticed a small opening in between a couple of trees, and it seemed relatively covered.
“Where are you going, Y/N-ah?” Tae asked as he saw you stepping away from the group.
“I need to pee. I’ll be right back.” You told him.
“Ok, just be careful.” He cautioned, causing you to nod.
You walked for a bit, wanting to make sure that no one could see you. You weren’t really worried about the guys trying to peek, but you still wanted as much privacy as possible.
You quickly did your business and cleaned up as much as possible. As you started to make your way back, a deep growl caused you to freeze in your tracks. You slowly turned around to face the cause of the sound, mentally cursing as you saw a large, skinny dog staring you down.
He’s starving. You thought. He probably hadn’t eaten in weeks, and you knew that it was only a matter of time before the animals went back to their natural instincts.
Fuck me. You thought as you slowly searched your pockets, realizing that you hadn’t brought any sort of weapon with you. You slowly began backing away, hoping that the dog would back down. That was wishful thinking though, and before you knew it, you’d been knocked to the ground as the dog sank his teeth into your side, shaking his head violently.
The only thing you could think to do was scream and hope that the others would help you. You attempted to shove the dog off of you, but with each push, his teeth sank deeper causing you to scream louder.
“Fuck, Y/N!” You heard someone yell. You’d lost a lot of blood and began drifting in and out of consciousness.
You weren’t entirely sure what was happening anymore, you just knew that you heard what sounded like a gunshot and multiple, panicked voices speaking over you. Your eyes fluttered open for a moment and you realized that you were being carried by Hobi.
“Hobi I-“ you weakly whispered before falling unconscious again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The booming sound of loud thunder shook you awake, causing you to attempt to sit up. A sharp pain shot through your body, causing you to whine and lay back down.

“Hyung, she’s awake!” You heard Jimin’s voice call. You turned your head to see Jimin, Hobi, and Tae all running towards you.

“How are you feeling?” Hobi asked sweetly as he carefully knelt down beside you.”

“My body hurts.” You began, attempting to look around as you couldn’t recognize your surroundings. “Where are we?”

“It’s a barn.” Tae answered, causing you to give him a confused look. “We drove for miles until we came across it. It looked like it’d been abandoned, and we just needed somewhere to stop so we could help you.”

“Jin and I were able to stop the bleeding, but you wouldn’t wake up. I was so scared, Y/N. I thought I lost you.” Hobi choked as he squeezed your hand gently. You attempted to reach up to touch his face, letting out a painful moan as the sharp pain happened again.

“Don’t try to move, Y/N. Just rest.” Jimin urged. You carefully interlaced your fingers with Hobi’s.

“You can’t lose me, Hobi. I still have your bracelet.” You smiled weakly, trying to cheer him up.

He let out a bit of a forced laugh as he nodded his head, eyes fixed on your torso which was now wrapped in some sort of cloth.

“Hey, where are the others?” You asked once it hit you that four of your friends were missing.

“They went to go look for some medical supplies. You could easily get an infection if we don’t find something to treat the wound with.” Jimin told you.

“How long have they been gone?”

“A couple of hours. They should be back soon though.” He said, causing you to nod.

Silence filled the room as we waited for the others. Hobi gently traced circles on the back of your hand with his thumb while Jimin and Taehyung kept watch at the front of the barn.

“I’m sorry.” Hobi whispered, causing you to look up at him. He avoided eye contact though, eyes still glued to your torso.

“Sorry for what, Hobi? This isn’t your fault.”

“I should’ve gone with you. I could’ve protected you and none of this would’ve happened.”

“Don’t say that.” You told him as you squeezed his hand, causing him to look at you. “I fucked up the minute I walked into the woods without my gun. None of this is on you, Hobi. Besides, I wasn’t going to let you watch me take a piss.” You joked, causing him to smile weakly.

“The moment I heard you scream, it felt like the world stopped and I immediately imagined the worst. I don’t know what I would’ve done if it wasn’t a dog that had bitten you, Y/N. I’d never forgive myself.” He admitted. You hated that he felt this way, that he blamed himself for what happened.

“Hey, I’m still in one piece. You don’t have to think about all of that. I’ll be okay, Hobi.”

“I don’t want to lose you.” He bit his lip as a tear fell from his eyes. You slowly brought his hand to your chest, doing your best to hide the amount of pain you were in.

“My heart is still beating, Hobi. I’m still here and I’m not going anywhere.” You reassured him.

“They’re back!” Jimin’s voice caused the two of you to guide your attention to the men walking in.

“Holy fuck, she’s awake!” Jungkook exclaimed as he ran over to you.

“It’s good to see you.” You smiled as the others made their way over to you.

“We found some painkillers and things to clean the wound. Is it bad?” Jin asked, referring to your pain.

“Only when I move.” You admitted.

“The bite was pretty deep, but we were able to stop the bleeding. So, that’s a good sign. We do need to clean it though.” Namjoon said.

You simply nodded as you did your best to prepare yourself for what was coming. Jin gently removed the blood-soaked cloth from around your torso and tossed it to the side as he and Namjoon began readying the medical supplies.

“Here.” Yoongi said as he handed you some pain meds and a rolled-up shirt. “It’s to bite down on. You’re going to need it.” He added, pointing to the shirt.

You nodded in response and quickly swallowed the pills before letting out a shaky breath.

“We may need to hold you down, Y/N. This isn’t going to be easy.” Jin admitted as he gave you a look of pity.

“I know. Do what you need to.” You told him.

Hobi kept his hold on your hand, offering it for you to squeeze as he kept your arm close to him. Yoongi pressed gently on your shoulders, preparing to pin you down if he needed to. Jungkook held your legs tightly to prevent you from kicking. Tae and Jimin stood to the side, ready to step in if they were needed. Namjoon sat beside Jin to assist him with the process.

“Ready?” Jin asked as he held a bottle of alcohol in his hand. You weren’t ready in the slightest, but it needed to happen one way or another. So, despite your fear, you nodded anyways.

Soon enough, your muffled screams began filling the room as the cold alcohol soaked your wound. Jin moved as quickly as he could while the others kept you in place. As you felt yourself go numb, your cries began to fade, and everyone released their holds on you.

“It’s done, Y/N.” Namjoon said, slightly above a whisper.

“No more dogs.” You joked as you let out a deep sigh.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Everyone sat around for a while, trying to decide whether you should stay here for the night or get back on the road, as you waited for the storm to pass. Hobi helped you sit up with your back rested against his chest for support.
“She needs to rest.” Yoongi stated.
“I’ll be fine. We should keep going.” You responded.
“Y/N, it’s not safe.” He sighed.
“Nowhere is safe, Yoongi. Isn’t that why we decided to leave in the first place?” You questioned.
“She’s right. We should keep going.” Namjoon said.
“I can drive first for our group. You’re all probably exhausted.” You offered.
“You’re not driving.” Hobi stated, much to your surprise.
“What, why not?” You questioned.
“I’m not going to have you passing out on us.”
“It only happened once.” You mumbled as you rolled your eyes.
You understood his concerns, but that didn’t stop the irritation. You felt as if you were being a burden on the group, and all you wanted to do was carry your weight, even if it was excruciating to do so at the moment.
“One time is too many, Y/N.” He told you with a hint of frustration in his tone.
“It’s fine, Y/N. Just focus on getting better.” Jungkook told you. You were too tired to argue. So, you simply nodded in response.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You rested your head against the window as you watched the trees pass by once again. It was getting dark, and you couldn’t help but wonder if you hadn’t gotten hurt, would you all have found your new home already?

You couldn’t tell how long the car had been moving at this point. Your head was feeling fuzzy, and you started feeling cold. All you wanted to do was crawl into a warm bed sleep for days. The pain meds were starting to wear off and the slight shake of the car wasn’t helping.

“Hoseok?” Yoongi called over the radio, causing you to sit up a bit.

“Yeah?” He responded.

“It looks like there’s a house up ahead. We’re going to pull over and check it out.” Yoongi told him.

Hobi pulled into the driveway, behind Yoongi’s car, before stepping out for a few minutes to speak to the other group. They stood outside for a minute before looking for a way inside the house, leaving you with Jin and Jungkook.

“Should we go with them?” You asked.

“No. They’ll call if they need us. We’ll just be on lookout until they get back.” Jungkook said.

The exterior of the house resembled a cabin and was a bit smaller than the one you were previously in. The driveway was long and there were trees surrounding it. You honestly weren’t sure how the others saw it in the first place, it was pretty hidden. You were distracted from your thoughts as Hobi opened your door.

“Come on.” He said as he helped you step out.

“Was it empty?” You asked, as you held onto him, trying to ignore the pain.

“It is now.” He stated simply, causing you to look up at him with concern. “There was a zombie. Yoongi and Tae are dragging it out.” He told you, noticing the worried look on your face.

As you two walked in, you began looking around the house. The inside felt smaller than it originally looked, but you weren’t sure if that was just because there were so many of you.

“There’s two bedrooms upstairs and two downstairs. Y/N, you can have one of the ones downstairs, so you don’t have to walk as much.” Namjoon stated.

“Am I not sharing a room with anyone?” You asked, a bit confused.

“There’s only one bed in each room. You can have one to yourself and one of us will take the couch.” He told you.

You were at the point where you didn’t really mind if you had to share a bed with someone. You appreciated their thoughtfulness and continuous efforts to make you feel comfortable, but you truthfully didn’t want to sleep alone. It seemed silly after everything that has happened, but you were still afraid of being alone again.

“I don’t mind sharing with someone as long as they’re ok with it. There’s no reason for someone to sleep on the couch if they don’t have to.” You said.

After a brief discussion, it was decided that you’d share a room with Hobi since you “knew” him the best. You weren’t really surprised by the decision. Especially not when he was so insistent on it.

You let out a sigh of relief as you laid in the bed, facing the ceiling. You turned to Hobi who was also lying on his back beside you.

“How are you feeling?” He asked, as his eyes met yours.

Like shit. You thought but abstained from admitting that.

“Tired.” You answered with a yawn.

“Are you in pain?”

“A little bit. I think it’ll be better tomorrow.” You lied, hoping he wouldn’t persist forward. Much to your satisfaction, he nodded and set his sights on the ceiling.

“There’s a garden in the backyard. I think we’re going to look for seeds to plant.” He spoke.

“That’d be nice.” You told him. The possibility of being able to grow your own food was exciting, but there was no guarantee that it’d happen. You hoped for the best regardless.

“Get some rest, Y/N.” He said as he noticed you fighting to keep your eyes open.

“Goodnight, Hobi.” You hummed before slowly drifting off to sleep, as the nightmares began to play on repeat, just like before.

Author's note: Another shorter chapter haha. Sorry it took so long. I've been extremely busy and stressed this last week. As always, feel free to reblog if you like it and let me know what y'all think about this chapter. ~Mackie 💜

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You woke up covered in a pool of your own sweat and feeling as if the room was spinning. You looked to your side, only to realize Hobi wasn’t there. You slowly lifted the blankets to look at your inflamed wound. It looked as if it had become infected as a thick, clear substance oozed out of it.
You cried as you attempted to sit up. Pain flowing throughout your entire body as your torso throbbed intensely. You stood up weakly, as your legs shook beneath you. Feeling as if they were about to give out. Slowly, you put one foot in front of the other, losing your balance and falling to the floor. The sound must’ve alerted Hobi, because soon enough he was running into the room.
“What happened?” He frantically asked, trying to help you up before you pushed him off.
“Please don’t touch me, Hobi!” You cried. The feeling of his hands on you made you feel as if your skin was on fire.
“Jin!” Hobi yelled a few times, trying to wake the others. It didn’t take too long though, and within a couple of minutes, everyone was running to your room.
“Shit, she has fever.” Jin stated, as he tried to look at your wound. He received the same treatment as Hobi. Getting pushed off as you continued to cry in pain.
“Y/N, please. I need to see if it’s infected.” Jin pleaded. You looked up at him with worried eyes. “I’ll be gentle, I promise.”
You allowed him to check your wound, and he kept his promise, remaining as gentle as he possibly could.
“Fuck. It’s infected.” He stated as he looked at the others behind him.
“This is bad. What are we going to do?” Jungkook asked through an anxious tone.
“She needs antibiotics. She could die if we don’t get this under control.” Yoongi said.
“She’s not going to die!” Hobi yelled, still crouched down beside you. Being as careful as possible as to not touch you.
“She will if the infection spreads, Hoseok!” Yoongi yelled back.
“Yoongi’s right, Hoseok. If we don’t get her some proper medication, then the infection will spread.” Namjoon reasoned.
“Then we need to find something.” Hobi argued.
“Please, stop yelling.” You groaned. The sound was starting to give you a headache.
“I’m sorry, Y/N.” Hobi whispered.
“There has to be a pharmacy somewhere. Right?” Taehyung asked.
“Where, Taehyung? We don’t even know where we are. We could be hours away from a pharmacy.” Jimin stated, now starting to panic as well.
“Will everyone just please calm down!” Namjoon said through a loud tone.
As much as you hated the sound, it worked. Everyone stopped arguing and looked to Namjoon for answers. No one knew what was going to happen to you if they couldn’t get antibiotics in time.
“If there isn’t a pharmacy nearby, there has to be a hospital or a doctor’s office. That would be our best bet.” He stated.
“A hospital is too dangerous.” You muttered.
“It’s a risk we’ll have to take.” Namjoon said.
“We drove for hours and didn’t see anything. How can we be certain we’ll find something?” Jungkook asked.
“We should all go.” Taehyung suggested, causing everyone to direct their attention to him. “Look, we don’t know how long it’ll take and by the time we find what we’re looking for, the infection could already be spreading. The sooner Y/N takes the antibiotics, the better.” He continued.
“Fucking fine with me. Come on, Y/N. Let’s get you up.” Hobi quickly stated, attempting to put his arms around you.
“Will you please calm down?” You asked him, gently swatting his hands away. “Is everyone fine with coming, or does anyone want to stay here?”
“I never unpacked. So, I’m fine with going.” Jimin stated.
“Yeah, me too.” Jungkook added.
As you looked around at the men surrounding you, it was evident that they were all willing to pick up and leave again if it meant saving your life.
“Then it’s settled. Let’s grab our bags quickly. Jin, help Hobi get Y/N in the car.” Namjoon said.
Everyone dispersed to gather their things and prepare to leave again as Jin and Hobi helped you to stand.
“I’ve got her. Grab her bags.” Jin told Hobi, who wore a look of hesitation before nodding.
“How are you feeling?” He asked, causing you to look up at him with a look of confusion.
“Never better.” You said, causing him to chuckle at your sarcasm.
“No, I mean mentally, how are you?” He rephrased.
“I’m tired, Jin.” You admitted. He didn’t say a word in response. Opting to nod in understanding.
Once he was sure that you were secure in the backseat of his car, he stared down at you for a moment as his hands rested on the door.
“You know you’re going to be okay, right? We’re going to take care of you.” He said softly.
“I know, Jin. That’s not what I’m worried about.”
“Then what is it?” He asked with a raised eyebrow.
“I’m worried that if something does happen to me, that Hobi would blame himself for it. I know he made a promise to me, but I’m afraid that he’s going to get himself killed in the process of trying to fulfill it.” You told him.
“I won’t let that happen. None of us will. You’re one of us now, Y/N. We’re all going to make it through this.” His tone was soft, but you could see the sincerity in his eyes.
“Thank you, Jin.” You said. He gave you a confirming nod before shutting the door gently and entering the drivers side.
Shortly after, Hobi and Jungkook took their seats in the car and we were off. The air felt heavy, but you were unsure if it was due to the burning sensation flooding your body. With every bump in the road, you winced lightly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Jin had been driving for about an hour, yet the scenery hadn’t changed much. You were still surrounded by trees and the sun was finally starting to rise. You couldn’t help but think about your parents. If there was a chance that they were still alive, are they happy? If they were dead, did they die peacefully? The thoughts lingered incessantly. It made you want to hit your head against the window repeatedly in an attempt to get the images to leave your mind.

The sound of static pulled you from your thoughts, Yoongi’s voice coming through the other end.

“Hyung, we have to stop.” He said, causing everyone to sit up.

“Why? What’s wrong?” Jin asked, pulling to the side of the road.

“We’ve run out of gas. We can’t go any further.” He said as he parked in front of you.

“Fucking hell.” Jin groaned as he rested his head on the steering wheel.

As you attempted to pull yourself up to look over your shoulder, you realized just how low the gas gauge was in this car as well. You guys could probably drive for a couple more miles, but it wouldn’t matter. You’d run out of gas soon enough too.

“We’re going to have to walk.” Jin muttered, looking at you in the rear view mirror.

“She can’t walk in her condition.” Jungkook spoke.

“It’s okay. I’ll be fine.” You reassured the men in the car.

You weren’t too keen on walking, but you had no other choice. It was either wait here for the infection to spread and die or die trying to stop it. Either way, you mentally prepared yourself for the journey.

Namjoon knocked on Jin’s window as the others approached the car.

“We’re going to have to continue on foot.” He spoke.

“I know. We’re almost out of gas too.” Jin sighed.

“Y/N, how are you doing?” Namjoon asked.

“I’ll be okay. Don’t worry about me.” You said weakly.

“Let’s only take what we need. If we find gas, we’ll come back for the cars.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You did your best to keep up a good pace, but you were still slowly trailing behind the others as Hobi allowed you to hold on to his arm in order to remain steady. The group had to leave a lot behind. Only splitting as much food and water that you could fit in each of your bags.
“Wait!” Namjoon raised his hand as he stopped walking, signaling everyone else to come to a halt.
“What is it?” Tae asked quietly.
“Look up there.” Namjoon pointed to the road ahead of us that was on a hill.
You did your best to focus on what he was looking at, squinting as the sun shone directly in your eyes. Your breath hitched as you realized what it was.
There was a massive hoard of zombies ahead. There had to be hundreds of them, all walking towards you. As you began looking around, you realized that they weren’t just ahead of your group, but all around you. Coming out from the trees as if they were waiting for the right time to strike.
“Guys, we need to run!” You urged, making the others aware of the impending danger that you were all in.
Everyone began running in the opposite direction, unsure of where to go. The zombies were catching up and there was nowhere around to hide. You cried as you lost your grip on Hobi’s arm, falling to the ground harshly.
“Y/N!” He called, as he realized you were no longer beside him.
“I’ve got her. Just go!” Yoongi’s voice yelled from behind you. “Put your arms around me.” He instructed and you quickly did as you were told as he picked you up, bridal style, and began running.
You couldn’t help but look over his shoulder, panicking as you realized how close they were now and how far away the rest of the boys had gotten.
“Yoongi, you need to let go of me. I’m slowing you down.” You told him.
“Shut up, Y/N.” He growled through deep breaths.
You reached over his shoulder and began digging through his bag, trying to find his gun. Once you felt the cold metal, you quickly pulled it out and turned off the safety before firing at the zombies closest behind you. The unsteadiness of your body as you shook in Yoongi’s arms made firing a sure shot nearly impossible, but it slowed a few of them down. As you turned back around, you realized that the others were no longer in sight, and there was a smaller group of zombies coming from the right side of the road.
“Fuck, Yoongi turn left!” You yelled.
He carried you into an opening in the woods, not stopping until you were both sure that you’d gotten away. You were now in the middle of the woods, tall trees surrounding you. Yoongi gently set you down on the ground with your back against a tree as he fell to his knees, attempting to catch his breath.
As he looked up at you, the two of you shared a knowing look. You had gotten separated from your group, and neither of you knew where you were. You were alone now.
“What are we going to do?” You asked through a whisper as tears formed in your eyes.
He stared at you for a moment before sighing and snickering lowly as he shook his head.
“We’re going to find a pharmacy.”
Chapter 5-Time
Word Count: 1,815
Warnings: swearing, violence, infections, weapons (guns and knives), food insecurity, mentions of death, cigarettes, hospitals, mentions of medications, Yoongi and reader bicker a lot, zombie shit
Taglist: @rkive-joonie @tweetiebirb @arantxaglz
Author's note: I was torn between making this chapter longer and cutting it off where it was at. Ultimately, I decided it'd be best to cut it off and allow the next chapter to be a long one. Let me know what y'all think about this one, and feel free to reblog if you like it! ~Mackie💜
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“Yoongi, please slow down.” You pleaded to the man in front of you as he walked with haste.

“We’re running out of time, Y/N.” He stated, not breaking his stride.

“We’ve been walking for hours and we’re still in the middle of the fucking woods.” You sighed as you rolled your eyes.

He didn’t respond. Instead, he continued to walk as if he were on a mission, not slowing down at all. You were holding onto a branch that you were using to help support your weight. You stopped moving for a moment, trying to catch your breath as you glanced down at your wound. It now looked worse than before.

Yoongi stopped and turned to face you once he no longer heard your slow steps trailing behind him. He sighed deeply as he made his way back over to you, extending his hand for you to take.

“We can’t stop now, Y/N.” He said with a soft tone, but the urgency was evident.

“Can we just take a small break?” You begged. “Just for a moment?”

He pinched the bridge of his nose before nodding. “Just for a minute.” He agreed, helping you sit down on the ground.

He began digging through his bag, pulling out a bottle of water and holding it in front of you.

“Take it.” He said simply.

“Are you not going to have any?” You asked as you took the bottle from his hand and twisted the cap.

“No. I’m not thirsty.” He said, but you could tell he was lying.

“Just drink a bit, Yoongi.”

“I’m fine, Y/N. You need it. You look like shit.” He said bluntly causing you to snort at his honesty.

“You should see yourself.” You smirked.

Your food and water were now extremely limited. Hobi still had your bag and the only supplies that were available were the ones that Yoongi had.

“Do you think they’re okay?” You asked, referring to the rest of the group.

“I do. They have each other.” He spoke.

“Do you think they’re looking for us?”

“I don’t know, Y/N.” He said slightly above a whisper as he traced patterns in the dirt with a stick.

You sighed as you thought about your friends. They were all probably worried sick, but who knows what they encountered after you got separated. It might not even be safe for them to come looking for the two of you at this point.

“Come on. Minutes up.” Yoongi said as he stood up, dusting himself off, and reaching out to help you up.

“Can you chill with the speed walking this time?”

“No can do, princess. Can’t have you dying on me.” He said, causing you to roll your eyes at the nickname.

“Keep calling me nicknames and I may start to think that you’ve got a thing for me, Yoongi.” You said sarcastically, causing him to laugh.

“Then you’d be focusing on the wrong thing. Quit stalling. Let’s go.” He spoke.

“I wasn’t stalling.” You muttered.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The two of you began walking once again. Trekking forward in hopes of finding something, anything at all. You felt yourself getting weaker with each step. You were falling apart and as much as you hated to admit it, Yoongi was right. You didn’t have much time left.
It’s moments like these where you wish that you could go back in time and do things differently. You never would’ve gotten bitten by that dog because you would’ve taken a weapon with you. The group would’ve never had to leave the house, and everyone would still be together. Regrets felt pointless, but they stuck with you, nonetheless.
“I think I see something.” Yoongi spoke lowly.
Through the trees, you could see the outline of a large building.
“Yeah, I see it too.” You told him as you stood by his side.
“Come on.” He said, as he helped support your weight by wrapping his arm around your shoulder.
As the two of you approached the building, you couldn’t help the uneasy feeling that was building in your chest. It was a small hospital. Some of the windows on the lower floors were boarded up and some of the doors had chains on the handles. Someone wanted the building to be secure. Someone had to be in there.
“Yoongi, I don’t like this.” You admitted.
“We’ll be okay. We have to go in.” He attempted to comfort.
You quickly moved his arm from around your shoulder and stopped walking, causing him to face you with a confused expression. There was a hint of annoyance in his eyes, but you didn’t care. This didn’t feel right at all.
“What the fuck are you doing, Y/N?” He questioned.
“Look at the windows and doors.” You began, motioning to the building.
“What about them?” He asked. He was either completely oblivious to the strangeness of it all or he simply didn’t care. You assumed that it was the latter.
“They’re secured, Yoongi. Someone has to be in there.” You told him, frustration laced in your tone.
“So?”
“So, what if there’s another group in there?” You challenged.
“Then we’ll take care of it. Why are you so worried about this?” His annoyance was much more evident now as his patience was wearing thin.
“Oh, don’t act fucking dense, Yoongi. We have one gun. One, and it’s just the two of us.” You told him.
“Don’t insult my intelligence, Y/N.”
“Then don’t act fucking stupid, Yoongi.” You snapped back.
The two of you stared at each other in silence for a moment. Neither wanting to back down. You understood that Yoongi was trying to save your life, but you needed him to understand that making impulsive decisions wasn’t going to do that.
“I’m trying to help you.” He whispered as he broke eye contact, now staring down at your torso.
You slowly reached up and cupped his face in your hands, causing him to look at you once again.
“I know, Yoongi, but if we don’t do this right then we’re both going to die. Please, just think about this.” You pleaded in a low tone.
“I’ll sneak in.”
“I’m going with you.”
“Y/N, you can barely walk. I’ll sneak in and take what we need. I’ll be in and out.” He spoke as if it were a foolproof plan.
“And what am I supposed to do? Just sit here and hope that you come back. No, I’m going with you.” You stated sternly.
“Do you always have to be so stubborn?” He groaned.
“I’m not being stubborn, Yoongi. I’m just thinking clearly. I’m not going to let you get yourself killed in an attempt to save my life.”
“You would do the same if you were in my position. Don’t try and act like you wouldn’t.”
You mentally cursed him out in your head. Not because he was just spewing absolute nonsense, but because he was right. You’d risk your life to save any of the boys but allowing them to do the same felt wrong. You owed them so much. Keeping them alive was a necessity, not an option.
“You’re right. I would do the same, but I’m begging you to stop fighting me on this. I’m coming with you.”
The sound of one of the doors opening caused you both to freeze. Yoongi pulled you down as the two of you stared at the door, briefly glancing at the other in concern. A man with a rifle around his shoulder walked out and looked around for a moment before lighting a cigarette. He was standing directly by the door.
You looked at Yoongi in hopes that he was thinking what you were thinking. Based on the look in his eyes, it was evident that you were on the same page.
“That’s our way in.” He whispered.
You wondered if the two of you could somehow overpower the man, but you knew that it’d be too risky. You’re not able to move as fast as you usually would, and Yoongi can’t overpower him alone.
Almost on cue, a zombie approached from in between the trees. It hadn’t spotted you, but the man on guard spotted it. He quickly put out his cigarette and pulled out a knife from his back pocket as he made his way over to it.
“Don’t make a sound. Let’s go. Quickly.” Yoongi said as he kept a firm hold on your wrist.
The man tackled the zombie who was putting up a good fight, before implanting his knife into its skull. Luckily, his knife got stuck and it gave the two of you enough time to sneak past him as the growls of another zombie kept the man busy enough not to notice you.
As the two of you walked into the building, the air was cold. Eerily enough, it still held the sterile smell that you’d expect from a hospital. The white walls made the hallway seem infinite. It was strangely quiet, apart from the footsteps that you could hear approaching from the other end of the hallway.
Shit.
Without a second thought, you quickly grabbed Yoongi’s arm and pulled him into the nearby room before shutting the door quietly. The footsteps continued to approach, and you could hear the sound of whistling.
Yoongi readied his gun and stood by the door, preparing for the worst. Soon enough, you heard the sound of two men engaging in conversation and you could only assume that one of them was the man from outside. They stood directly outside of the door for a moment, cracking jokes with each other. You subconsciously held your breath, feeling as if it’d give away your position.
A few minutes later, the men began walking away. Neither you nor Yoongi moved a muscle until the sound of their footsteps faded.
“Fuck.” You breathed out.
“Y/N?” Yoongi whispered.
“What?” You responded, looking at the man beside you.
“Look.” He said simply, pointing to the wall before him.
You almost couldn’t believe it. Was it really that easy? It appeared that the room you pulled Yoongi into happened to be a storage room. A storage room with various medications occupying the shelves. Most of them remained untouched.
Yoongi quickly began scanning the shelves, searching for the antibiotics that you needed. He let out a satisfied laugh once he found what he was looking for before grabbing multiple bottles and placing them into his backpack.
You were so taken aback that you hadn’t even noticed that the men from earlier came back down the hallway. So filled with hope that you hadn’t realized that they’d opened the door to the storage room. You didn’t even know that the man holding the rifle had connected the end of it with the back of your head as hard as he could. All you knew was that in the matter of seconds, everything went dark.
