Into Eternity - Part I

IntoEternity - Part I

Today was the day you had been dreading for months. It was your wedding day. The day your parents had been waiting for many years to come. Finally, you had a use. You’d been an ill child, constantly being sick and unable to help out on the farm. The only reason you’d been saved was because of your beauty. The King and Queen knew you’d look perfect on the arm of their son, Jimin.

The Prince was beautiful, of this there was no doubt. He had an elegance that many sought after. Your parents had fallen to the King and Queen’s feet, telling them that they’d make sure to raise you so you were worthy of someone like the crowned prince.

No expense was spared today. Gold fibers had been woven into your hair. Your bodice was laced tightly and you found it difficult to breathe. However, there was no sympathy from your ladies in waiting.

“Can you suck in a little more dear? The Prince should be able to fit his arms around you… Hopefully,” she breathed, looking around at the other women in the room like they were all sharing a similar thought. It left a sour taste in your mouth at how easily insults came off their tongues here, but you tried your best to breathe in more.

“You’ve got a decent face, but the Princess of Ivarsted was much more regal if you ask me,” another woman that was preparing your skirts commented.

The insults wore on as the day progressed. Your face was done up and you were put into your shoes for the night. You winced in discomfort at the jewels that scraped against your fragile skin, but you remained silent. Any complaining would be fruitless to you at this point, if anything it would damage you. It wasn’t worth it; no one would be listening anyways.

You really had no idea what to expect for your husband. All you had heard your entire life was that he was going to take care of you and that you had to serve him to the best of your ability. You had to watch your weight and watch your figure to make sure you didn’t displease him some day. The Crowned Prince was known to be beautiful. He was very quiet and kept to himself, rarely ever coming out of the palace. However, you’d never met him. Not even in passing. You lived far out of town and you weren’t allowed near the palace at a young age in fear of you being seen by the Prince or the other members of the royal family and them suddenly deciding you weren’t going to be enough for his highness. So, the first time that you’d be meeting your husband would be as you walked down the aisle.

Your hair was pulled up high into a painful, yet supposedly elegant updo. At one point your scalp began to bleed because the woman doing your hair was stating it was too long for what the Queen had requested. Something you could’ve easily fixed had you been paying any attention. Your fault entirely, of course.

Finally, you were done. ‘As good as it was going to get,’ according to one lady. You sighed and looked at yourself in the mirror. You looked pretty, although it wasn’t what you usually looked like. You looked almost like a ghost because you were so white. Your lips were painted a ridiculous red color, almost like a doll being dressed up for parade. You found yourself wanting to be sick merely from looking at your reflection. You wondered what Jimin was going to think when he saw you. You thanked the women who had been torturing you all morning; gathering your skirts before heading towards the door. However, before you could escape through the door, a man standing in a Royal guards attire approached.

“Sir Namjoon! You don’t need to take her, certainly she can go on her own,” one woman gushed as she fell to the floor in a dramatic manner. You sighed and looked at the man before you with mild interest.

“Nonsense, she is the Prince’s bride! I will escort her to Yoongi-hyung,” he said, approaching you.  You gazed at him with a blank expression. Honestly, on the inside, you were numb. Namjoon gave you a small smile, which you couldn’t return. He offered you his arm and you took it gingerly, wrapping yours around his as you were instructed.

“You look lovely, Jimin will be floored with how amazing you look,” he said as the two of you wove through the grey walls of the castle.

“Thank you,” you said in a tight tone. Namjoon noticed your unease.

“Jimin is a good person, you’ll be in safe hands for eternity,” he said, seeing if you’d bite.

“That’s good to know, thank you,” you said as the pair of you rounded a corner. You stood at the top of a very large and elaborate staircase. The marble was so clean it almost felt wrong to set foot on it. However, Namjoon urged you forwards.

Each step felt like a step towards death. No more playing down by the creek. No more reading in the middle of the fields while the sun soaked your skin and the wind caught your hair. All of that was ending. All because of your family practically giving you to the royal family, simply because they wanted to survive another day. Your mother had always wanted more than a simple life on the farm, and you would be giving it to her. She would forever be known as the woman who birthed a Queen. What a title.

“This is where I leave you, Yoongi will take you the rest of the way,” he said, passing you off to a somber looking man who appeared to be thinking of a million other places he could be.

“Pleasure to meet you your future highness,” he said, offering his arm to you. Slowly, you reached out to him and wrapped his arms around his. Yoongi wasn’t as tall as Namjoon and certainly not as talkative. He practically dragged you through the hallways before stopping in front of a large set of intimidating French doors.

“Now entering,” a booming voice began as the doors opened. “Miss Y/F/N Y/L/N! Future ruler of Arcane Kingdom!” The room before you was decorated in the flowers that were also in your bouquet. White lilies. You hadn’t chosen them, but apparently all things pertaining to you were handled by the Queen. Candles were burning all over the room, adding an ominous glow to the massive space. You looked ahead and saw Jimin. He was dressed in lavish fabrics that poured over him in a ornate manner. However, he was more beautiful than all the fabrics that he wore. You felt your breath shorten slightly at the sight. You hadn’t expected him to look so… ethereal. Yoongi pulled on your arm as the music began, making sure your walking matched that of the music.

You risked a glance at Jimin as you approached. He gave you a soft smile that you found easy to return, because it felt genuine. You kept your pace even as you slowly made your way towards the alter. However, your eyes were trained on Jimin. He had such an air of elegance about him that you felt like you paled in comparison. He had the feel of a Prince and a future King. You? You felt out of place, drowning in your gown with the amount of heavy jewels and makeup suffocating you. The dress and corset made your ribs hurt and your head swim. Yoongi pinched your hand to bring you back to reality.

Finally, Jimin bowed before you, taking your hand and bringing you up to the alter. Jin the castle’s Priest stood before the two of you with a warm smile on his face.

“Dearly beloved guests. We thank you for your toils and hardships to be here to witness the joining of this man, and this woman, in holy matrimony.”

Blood pounded in your ears and made it difficult to hear. You knew Jin was speaking, but whatever he was saying was lost on you. Slowly, you glanced at Jimin out of the corner of your eye. He stood there proudly with such regality and poise that you felt your heart race in anxiety. You could feel the weight of his hand in yours like an anchor, weighing you down until you could no longer breathe.

“We will now exchange vows!” Jin announced, loud enough for you to hear through your loud thoughts. “Prince Jimin, you first.”

“My dear Y/N,” he started. “We’ve grown in separate worlds, but no longer. I wish for us now to grow together and happily in this place we will call home. Let me protect you, cherish you and be the one you trust with your life. I will do all I can to be a husband that will make you happy,” he said making the room fawn. It became silent and people looked at you with an expectant gaze. You cleared your throat awkwardly and tried to remember what the women had been yelling to you all morning.

“My prince,” you said, your voice cracking slightly at the end of your statement. He eyed you curiously, squeezing your hand gently. “I promise to serve you, give you all I can and more,” you held your stomach and tried to breathe in as deeply as you could. Jimin gave you a worried glance.

“Are you alright?” he whispered, pulling you closer. The crowd gasped and awed at the scene, but you nodded and tried to go on.

“I will stand by your side and give you everything I am… I am your wife from this day forward, and I will be your future,” you said, only able to remember half of what the women had prattled off earlier. The room was silent before a few gentle claps resounded through the large space.

“Please, take these rings,” he said, letting the jewelers of the local village bring the rings forward. A short man with a balding scalp approached you with Jimin’s wedding band, a white gold ring that had a deep red stone set into the band. It was beautiful, but yours was a different story. The piece was large and the band was decorated with diamonds while in the middle was a large red stone that was the same as Jimin’s.

“These rings are made out of the finest white gold and set with white and red diamonds, these diamonds are meant to symbolize eternal passion and strength. We hope they are to your liking,” a man said. You watched as Jimin reached out and had a small conversation with the person who had handed him your ring. The man smiled proudly and the two of you were made to face each other.

Jimin cleared his throat and took your hand in his. “With this ring, I bond myself to you. You will be mine, into eternity,” he said, placing the ring on your finger. The weight was grotesque and you simply stared at it on your finger. You looked at Jimin’s band in your small hand. Your ring looked out of place and like it was going to break your finger. Jimin tugged on your hand and brought you out of your stupor. Slowly you brought the ring up and slid it onto his finger.

“With this ring, I bond myself to you. You will be mine, into eternity,” you repeated. Jimin looked at it for a moment before lacing his fingers with yours.

“By the power vested in me by God and the King of Arcane Kingdom, I now pronounce you husband and wife… You may now kiss the bride,” Jin said, smiling at the two of you. Before you could even process what was happening, Jimin leaned down and sealed his lips against yours for a quick moment. You didn’t even get to respond before he was pulling away and leaving you stunned. The two of you stood before the crowd as the cheered and hollered for your union. The room was loud and all you could do was cry.

You will be mine, into eternity…
