But Owen Thought He Was Which Is The Important Thing - Tumblr Posts

I realized something several weeks ago as I was waiting for my canned tomato soup to warm up for lunch.

Obi-Wan told Luke that Owen Lars lied to him about what Anakin did for a living because he didn’t agree with Anakin ideals and didn’t think Anakin should have gotten involved in the galaxy outside of Tatooine.

Owen would have had solid reasons to lie about what his step-brother had done for a living before his untimely death.

The Empire was hunting Force Sensitivities and it appears that in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi an Inquisitor apparently comes pretty close physically to Luke and Owen stood face to face with the Inquisitor and had to stay calm and not give away that Luke was special or was unreasonably afraid.

I am the mother of a three year old child and an aunt to about a dozen nieces and nephews ranging from babies to adults and I would be terrified if I knew that they could be hurt/taken away/killed by people searching for ‘special’ people.

If I was in Owen and Beru’s shoes I would lie to Luke, and theoretically everyone who asked about what Luke’s father did for a living, too. I would do everything in my power to make sure that no connection could be drawn between my deceased step brother and the Jedi Knight/General that served in the Clone Wars. And if asked if there was a connection deny it or reiterate that my brother had been the farthest thing from a soldier.

As for why Obi-Wan felt the need to disparage Owen for lying? I can’t answer beyond that maybe he felt Owen took the secrecy too far for too long and that Luke was ready to know the truth and could keep it a secret.

But in all honesty if caught/asked by an Inquisitor Luke wouldn’t be lying if he said that his Dad was a Navigator on a Spice Freighter as he believed that it was the truth.
