when they were in middle school, cal and andre planned to join the track team together.

andre had always been somewhat athletic. he never complained or stopped when the school made them run the mile. he honestly liked it.

cal, on the other hand, vomited ten minutes in and had to make up the mile because he passed out before getting to the half way point. when he showed up at track tryouts, the coach honestly laughed.

andre outran most kids at tryouts and every practice after that. sure, he wasn’t the best on the team, but he definitely wasn’t the worst. he tried to hang with cal to encourage him and make him keep running, but cal would get frustrated and tell him to fuck off.

after about a month, cal completely gave up on the dream of running with andre. while cal was disappointed in himself, andre was genuinely upset.

he told his parents he wanted to quit track if cal wasn’t there with him. his parents strictly told him no. he was good at the sport; plus, it never hurt to make some more friends.

cal would still be at every meet, cheering from the stands as andre ran. he’d lay back and rest his feet on the bleacher in front of him when somebody else was racing, but he’d go ballistic when andre even walked out.

they were together, even if it wasn’t in the way they wanted. track would be andre’s thing, but that doesn’t mean cal can’t be there with him.

cal who talks really fast all the time. he never shuts up and talks about anything and everything. his family doesn’t know why he talks so fast, thinking that it’s just when he’s excited or hyper, but andre knows that’s not true. he just really likes to talk, specifically to andre.

there are times when andre has had to tell him to shut up even though he likes cal’s voice. it just gets a bit much at times. multiple zero day tapes not seen in the movie feature these instances. even some parts in the movie show it. cal is a blabber mouth, and he can’t help it.
