I ran bloody fingertips down an off-white hallway and when I passed the framed artwork, in gold gaudy frames, I ran my hands over them too and smirked. I learned it from him. That look. Head straight on but eyes looming under strong eyebrows. The kind of pissed off face that makes others feel inferior and weak and stupid and pathetic. Then the smirk. Quick slide of the cheek and lips high on one side and as soon as it appears, it’s gone.
