Bucky low key has a praise kink. It took a while for you to realize it. The first time you complimented his baking skills, a ruddy flush swept across his cheeks and down his neck, he stammered out the most endearing thank you.
You really began to suspect it the time you mentioned how amazing he was for taking care of you when you were sick the night before, by the time you finished speaking, Bucky resembled the three-tier red velvet cake he was frosting.
And then one night, while you two were making love, you told him how good he was making you feel and he became feral, wanting-needing-to hear those words again and again.
Bucky expresses his affection by writing you the sweetest love notes before he goes to the bakery in the morning. He texts you random things throughout the day. He noticed when you change your hair, or get something new and he compliments you every chance you get. Constantly encouraging you to try new things, building you up, always believing in you.
Quality time
Because of his long hours at the bakery, he cherishes every moment he gets to spend with you. Big fancy dates are fun but it's the nights with the two of you bundled up on the couch under a mountain of blankets, his head on your stomach, arms banded around you while a movie plays. He gives massages, makes you playlists, and plans date nights that revolve around your interests.
If you need something done, Bucky will do it for you. No complaints, he doesn't bring it up later.
Bucky appreciates all the things you do for him. It means the world when you stop by the bakery with lunch or you get his favorite apron dry cleaned.

“So if that’s all Cap-“ Tony started saying but an alarm interrupted him. “What… FRIDAY? What’s going on?”
“Someone unauthorized accessed the perimeter sir”- FRIDAY said and everyone at that was ready to fight already
“FRIDAY Why didn’t you stop them?”
“I couldn’t Mr Stark”
“What… FRIDAY-“
“Tony we don’t have time for this”- Steve said while exiting the room
“I just don’t understand, FRIDAY should have stopped anyone from entering and let us know someone was trying to…”
“Yeah Tony that’s not really reassuring ”- Sam snarked
“That wasn’t my intention, birdboy”
“Guys stop it, this is not the moment. FRIDAY where is the intruder?”-Steve said trying to regain the control of the situation, because even if now wasn’t the right time to talk about it, he shared Tony’s concerns: something wasn’t right he could feel it, FRIDAY had always been able to stop anyone who tried to enter the compound, so why hadn’t she now? What was different about this one?
“She is in Sergeant Barnes’ room”- Bucky could feel everyone staring at him
“I didn’t do anything”- he felt like he should defend himself… He always felt like he had to defend himself… ALWAYS; it was mostly his fault, really: he knew everyone had gotten over his past, even Tony had forgiven him for his parents, he had finally seen Bucky wouldn’t have done it if he had been himself. Bucky was the only one who wasn’t ready to move on and forgive himself yet, he still felt the need to wipe the ledge clean like Natasha would say. And now this? What was happening now? Why had it always have something to do with him.
“We know you didn’t do anything wrong Buck”- Steve was always ready to reassure him, he was a good friend like that. -“let’s go see what’s going on? Maybe it’s not something bad”
“Right because a stranger breaching the compound to chill in Barnes’ room is something good for sure”- everybody rolled their eyes at Tony’s sarcasm. Stark pulled the footage of Bucky’s room and the last thing Bucky was expecting was a beautiful woman standing in the middle of his room just looking around. She didn’t even seem armed
“She seems armless”- Clint said and the stranger immediately looked right in the hidden camera’s eye
“You had to say that, didn’t you”- Sam snarked as soon as the girl’s eyes started to glow
“Hey there”- the stranger said and suddenly the camera went off
“Tony what happened?”- Steve asked, “why did we lose eyes”
“I don’t know… it’s like I’m cut off from the system. FRIDAY put the vigilance system back online”- Tony asked the A.I.
“Authorization required”
“What?”- Tony was speechless
“We have to go in there, she is trapped. Bucky’s room has only one entrance we need to keep our advantage”- Natasha started leading them towards the bedroom without even waiting for their answers.
They barely made it to the hallway that the stranger was already there, waiting for them.
“Hello there”- she said like she had always been there , like she hadn’t just entered one of the most secured place on Earth.
Tony took a step closer to the stranger while keeping her at gun point.
“What do you want? And why don’t you also tell me what you did to FRIDAY, while you are here?”
“FRIDAY, is that your AI name, Mr Stark? You should really be proud of her, she gave me a run for my money”
“I am”- Tony said, he really couldn’t figure you out
“Your AI is fine, I would never hurt such a masterpiece, she is just taking a break”- you said while looking patiently at all of them.
“I’m gonna ask you one last time, why are you here?”- you knew Stark was a second away from shooting you, but you were bored of your conversation with him already, so you moved your attention to the real reason you were there and once you did you only had eyes for him.
“Winter”- you whispered.
you had waited so long to come to him. You knew you weren’t supposed to, you knew he had asked you to wait for him to come to you not the other way around, but it had been so long and you had watched him almost every day on the news, you knew he was free so why hadn’t he come to you? Why?
The team saw you looking at Bucky and they really didn’t know what to do: they needed to hold you for questioning but they were almost scared of what was going to happen if they were to attack you: you had been able to enter the compound despite FRIDAY, what should they expect from you?
“Bucky”- Steve said
“Who is Bucky?”- you said before you could stop yourself and Bucky could have laughed at the irony of the situation if everyone hadn’t been looking at him- “Winter”- you said once again while looking at the blue eyes that you still dreamed at night
“I’m not the winter soldier anymore”- Bucky didn’t know what else to say
“What… Of course you are not the winter soldier anymore, you never actually were. Winter what’s…”- you suddenly stopped. Bucky could see your eyes suddendly shining with tears, they had barely started forming but he could see them and, without even knowing why, he felt his heart hurt for you
“Oh no…”- you started once again, only looking at him, you were at gun point but nothing else mattered to you but him -“will you look at the moon tonight?”- you asked to Winter
“What? The moon… I”- Bucky was speechless, he didn’t know what you were saying, he didn’t know what was happening… what he knew was that apparently he was crushing you
“The moon? This chick is crazy”- Sam whispered to Bucky who stopped looking at you to glare at Sam
“Winter, please tell me you will look at the moon tonight”- you were full on crying now
“Ok that’s enough Miss, you’re going to come willingly with us and tell us how and why you entered the compound”- Tony had had enough of it
“Yeah I don’t think so”- your eyes started glowing again and Bucky could see the change happening in you: there was nothing left of the soft hurt girl that he saw until a second ago-“FRIDAY isolate the avengers and put them to sleep right now”
They didn’t even had the time to attack you because bullet proof glasses surrounded them. It didn’t mattered how many times Tony asked FRIDAY to deactivate the isolation protocol, she wasn’t listening. You watched them slowly succumb to the sleeping gas, you could see Bucky trying to resist but not even a super soldier could last forever
“Goodbye Winter”- was the last thing Bucky heard before everything went black
“FRIDAY send me all the file you have on the winter soldier”- you said once you were sure all of them were out
“Of course miss”
“And FRIDAY. Im sorry to do this to you, but please delete any footage, any sound, any information you have on me from all of your system please”-you said while looking one last time at Winter before leaving the compound.
You thought you had found him, but he wasn’t your Winter, not anymore. Your heart was broken but you didn’t let yourself feel the hurt for long, you couldn’t break… you just couldn’t.
You kept walking, leaving as much space as you could between you and the man you loved… who didn’t even know who you were!
A.N.: Reader is inhuman but her gift has nothing to do with the one Blink has in The Gifted, I just imagine reader’s eyes would look like Blink’s when she’s using her powers

Bucky came back with a groan, his head was killing him, it was pounding so much it felt Iike someone had smushed it against a brick wall. He tried to stand up but his legs weren’t able to support his weight, the sleeping gas hadn’t completely worn off apparently.
Bucky looked around: Steve and Nat were in his same conditions whilst Sam and Tony seemed to be a little bit behind on the waking process.
“Are you guys ok?”- asked Steve while shaking Tony -“Buck check on Sam”
“He’s waking up”- Bucky started to answer to be stopped by Sam’s voice
“Uhh, I can’t believe I ended up in hell, seriously”- Sam groaned
“What? Hell? What are you talking about?”- Bucky was confused
“It must be hell if you are the first thing I see in the afterlife Barnes”
“Yeah, he’s alive… sadly”- Bucky said standing up since he had started to feel his legs again
“Awww, were you worried about me Barnes?”/ Sam chuckled
“Awww Cap were you going to CPR me? Wait pretend I’m still out”
“Tony has finally woken up”- Steve groaned without even thinking about answering to Tony. Bucky rolled his eyes: Tony and Sam were always so sarcastic
“So she didn’t kill us?”- asked Sam finally without sarcasm in it -“but if she wasn’t here to kill us, why was she?”

“What is this FRIDAY?”- Tony asked looking at the photos appearing on the screen

“Why… FRIDAY show me only the last intruder”- Tony had barely ended his request that a clear photo of Zemo appeared on the screen -“why are you showing me Zemo? Show me the intruder of this morning”
THERE WASNT ANY INTRUDER THIS MORNING MR STARK, THE LAST KNOWN INTRUDER WAS ZEMO
“What the hell”- Sam whispered
“Damn it she’s good, I don’t know how she did it without leaving any trace but it’s like she wasn’t even here.”- Tony said looking at his friends
“Can’t you check the external camera?”- asked Sam
“FRIDAY controls them too, if there was a footage she would have showed it to us already, it’s like she was never here. Don’t you see? No one checked on us, no one knows we have been attacked, her breach didn’t activate any alarm and we don’t even have a photo of her to check who we are dealing with”- Tony was really impressed and a little bit scared too, he counted on FRIDAY a lot and someone had been able to use her against them without a problem
“We have to find a way to find her, she could hurt someone”- Steve said while looking at Buck, he was trying to catch his eyes, but Bucky was avoiding him.
“I’m not sure she is a real danger”- Bucky whispered non knowing if he was ok for him to talk
“Seriously Barnes?”- Sam snorted
“I just mean that she had us unconscious and defenseless and she didn’t hurt us nor anyone else in the compound. Why would she do that if she was dangerous? It’s clear she doesn’t want to hurt anyone”- Bucky said his piece and then stopped
“Ok I’ll give you that, but what does she want then?”- Steve asked his best friend
“Well it’s clear it has something to do with Bucky or maybe should I say the winter soldier since she didn’t seem to know Bucky real name”- everyone turned around to look at Nat. She hadn’t talked since waking up and they had almost forgot she was there -“and she seems to have done some research while we were sleeping”
“What”
“The last files downloaded where the one about the winter soldier program”- Nat showed what she had found while they had been talking
“So what… is she HYDRA?”- asked Tony
“We destroyed Hydra, beside, if she was, why not taking Buck while we were out”- Natasha didn’t know what was going on, but her gut was telling it had little to do with Hydra, and all to do with James Barnes
“So we are at the start again, we don’t know how to find her”- Sam huffed
“No, but maybe something on this file she downloaded could help us”- Steve said - “so let’s start looking through them”
It had been hours since they had strayed to go through the files and it seemed like they never ended. Bucky had decided to go through the footage of the winter soldier program, Steve had asked him if he didn’t want to pass them to someone else but the last thing Bucky wanted was for anyone in the team to watch the videos that were in there.
It had been looking at them for hours when he noticed something strange
“That’s weird”- he said and everyone eyes was suddendly on him
“Did you find something?”- Steve asked
“I don’t know… it’s probably nothing useful for a lead, but there is something strange for sure here”
“What is it?”
“They have years of footage of me, they had always eyes on me, whenever and wherever in the facility I was they were filming me, even when I was in cryo sleep. But there is something missing, you see the date on this video? The one immediately after it’s dated almost two years later”- Bucky looked at Steve trying to understand what his friend was thinking
“Why does it matter?”- Sam asked
“Why the gap?”- Asked Tony
“That’s what I can’t figure out. I mean if it was only a day or two it could be that they had been deleted or they got lost, but it’s almost two years”- Bucky waited for anyone to say something but they were all in silence
“Play the two non consequential videos”- Nat said finally
“The first one is just me getting out of cryo, probably for a mission, and the one dated two years later is me while they delete my memories again”- Buck said without playing the videos, he wanted to avoid it if it was possible
“Play the second one Buck”- Nat asked once again
The video wasn’t long: Buck entered the room, they forced him to sit and soon Bucky’s scream was filling the room
“Play it again and turn the volume up as much as you can”- everyone listened once again in silence -“did you hear it? Before they start the process what are you saying, you’re mumbling something”- Nat looked at Bucky
“I don’t know Nat, I wasn’t really all right in the head”
“Play it once again and fucking listen Barnes”
Bucky took a deep breath and focused all his senses on the sound of the video, trying to understand what his past self was mumbling
“Remember to look at the moon… wherever you are just look at the moon”- Bucky looked at the team as soon as those words left his mouth. Why had he said those words just before Hydra deleted his memories? And why had the intruder asked him about the moon too?
“Well it seems the chick wasn’t bat shit crazy after all”
Bucky almost didn’t hear Tony because all he could think about was the beautiful girl with glowing eyes. It was clear her asking about the moon was a catch phrase they had planned together, so she could know it was actually him she was talking to. But when had they created that phrase? Why was she looking for him now? And most importantly why did she looked crushed when he hadn’t been able to answer it?
Bucky looked at the screen again where the videos was still playing, even without looking at himself in the mirror, he knew that, right now, he had the same lost look in his eyes as the one he had had in the videos as soon as the resetting process had finished.

Bucky had decided to go through the footage of the winter soldier program, Steve had asked him if he didn’t want to pass them to someone else but the last thing Bucky wanted was for anyone in the team to watch the videos that were in there.
It had been looking at them for hours when he noticed something strange
“That’s weird”- he said and everyone eyes was suddendly on him
“Did you find something?”- Steve asked
“I don’t know… it’s probably nothing useful for a lead, but there is something strange for sure here”
“What is it?”
“They have years of footage of me, they had always eyes on me, whenever and wherever in the facility I was they were filming me, even when I was in cryo sleep. But there is something missing, you see the date on this video? The one immediately after it’s dated almost two years later”- Bucky looked at Steve trying to understand what his friend was thinking
“Why does it matter?”- Sam asked
“Why the gap?”- Asked Tony
“That’s what I can’t figure out. I mean if it was only a day or two it could be that they had been deleted or they got lost, but it’s almost two years”- Bucky waited for anyone to say something but they were all in silence
“Play the two non consequential videos”- Nat said finally
“The first one is just me getting out of cryo, probably for a mission, and the one dated two years later is me while they delete my memories again”- Buck said without playing the videos, he wanted to avoid it if it was possible
“Play the second one Buck”- Nat asked once again
The video wasn’t long: Buck entered the room, they forced him to sit and soon Bucky’s scream was filling the room
“Play it again and turn the volume up as much as you can”- everyone listened once again in silence -“did you hear it? Before they start the process what are you saying, you’re mumbling something”- Nat looked at Bucky
“I don’t know Nat, I wasn’t really all right in the head”
“Play it once again and fucking listen Barnes”
Bucky took a deep breath and focused all his senses on the sound of the video, trying to understand what his past self was mumbling
“Remember to look at the moon… wherever you are just look at the moon”- Bucky looked at the team as soon as those words left his mouth. Why had he said those words just before Hydra deleted his memories? And why had the intruder asked him about the moon too?
“Well it seems the chick wasn’t bat shit crazy after all”
Bucky almost didn’t hear Tony because all he could think about was the beautiful girl with glowing eyes. It was clear her asking about the moon was a catch phrase they had planned together, so she could know it was actually him she was talking to. But when had they created that phrase? Why was she looking for him now? And most importantly why did she looked crushed when he hadn’t been able to answer it?
Bucky looked at the screen again where the videos was still playing, even without looking at himself in the mirror, he knew that, right now, he had the same lost look in his eyes as the one he had had in the videos as soon as the resetting process had finished.
