random headcanon about chongyun.

they don't sleep with blankets. because the cold really doesn't bother them all that much, they are comfortable without blankets while resting. he ends up getting a little too warm if he tries to add a blanket later, and has found that blankets only add extra heat and weight that chongyun doesn't really need/want.

whether sleeping indoors or outdoors, chongyun's found he's far more comfortable just lying down somewhere, with a jacket as a pillow at the very least, no additional bedding needed.

OOOOH I LOVE THIS MILLA!

Okay so basically, Chongyun enjoys it. He enjoys the feeling of helping people with what troubles them, he enjoys the feeling of being useful and needed. Chongyun wants to constantly feel like people need him around to solve their paranormal problems, and he's all too happy to jump right into the action.

The problem is he doesn't actually DO anything.

It's Chongyun's biggest insecurity and greatest source of distress. Because while yes, people are grateful, Chongyun has never lifted a finger. All his commissions consist of him sitting on a chair overnight and then the problem is magically solved.

See, Chongyun's yang energy does everything before Chongyun can lift a finger. It's so unbelievably frustration for Chongyun to get credit and recognition for something he's never done to begin with. He wants to see spirits, he WANTS to actually perform a proper exorcism, but he's never been able to.

He may be renowned across Liyue, but Chongyun also is so incredibly insecure because people also don't give him any credit. People turn a blind eye to what Chongyun is capable of in general, disregard his strength or write him off as a naive child, when Chongyun is one of the strongest fighters in Liyue, though not quite being as strong as the adepti. And he's the BEST exorcist in Liyue, but he's constantly disregarded while also being used for a quick fix.

It's such a frustrating state of in-between for Chongyun. They know what they can do if their yang energy wasn't in the way, and they'd be a whole lot more capable of so much more if the people of this nation would actually pay attention to him.

It's hard being the best exorcist when you can't actually perform one.

Nothing triggered this, but I feel the need to remind people that Chongyun is not a child, and is going to be a lot more open about more adult topics than he would be in game.

I am very canon divergent, Chongyun is going to be very different from the in-game portrayal. While still a teenager and prone to acting like one, Chongyun is also of age, carrying a lot of responsibilities, and is going to very much understand and comprehend the world around him. This includes sexual topics, world events, their nation’s history and knowledge of Rex Lapis being alive.

Chongyun’s clan, at least my version of it, carries a lot of prominence and wealth, and Chongyun is going to have a lot of insider knowledge that most people do not have.

I mean, Chongyun ain’t gonna write himself, y’know?

i just had a thought that maybe chongyun is a little jealous of the traveler. not just because of how close the traveler is with xiao, but because of how easily they make friends with people.

like, chongyun is absolutely supportive of traveler and loves/respects them! but there’s also that envy lurking underneath that makes chongyun more sad than anything else because chongyun has no idea how to go about forming closer bonds with people. and it’s especially prevalent when xiao is involved, because xiao is someone chongyun loves and respects above almost anyone else (first being rex lapis), and it’s really hard for chongyun to watch someone he’s served and worked alongside grow close to someone else instead of him and his clan but-

chongyun has no idea how to be social or reach out to people, and it’s even worse when you take the yang energy and the isolated lifestyle they have to live into consideration. all they want to do is help and protect, but they’re still standing on the sidelines. to chongyun it feels like he’s standing outside of a tavern, watching everyone inside have fun and drink and laugh, and he’s just. alone.

but then the traveler enters the picture, and an already struggling chongyun sits back and watches as everyone gravitates toward them, relying on and trusting them to help. chongyun’s done the same though!! they love the traveler completely and love seeing traveler visit liyue but.

chongyun’s still jealous, and sometimes wishes that could be him.

actually no I want to talk about this a bit.

I wrote this, connecting the thaumaturges back to the founding of the Guili Assembly, which was around 3700 years ago. So it would make sense that the clan would have documents, journals, anything that they can trace their lineage back to.

So I would also imagine that the clan documents large events that have happened since. Including the fall of Khaenri'ah. Chongyun, being the heir, would be privy to these documents, though within the clan they are very tightly kept a secret from outsiders, even if the fall is widely known as legend and history.

Chongyun’s clan wouldn’t have been directly involved, but they probably have all sorts of relics stored in their clan home that are locked up and kept preserved. Ancient weapons, ancient armor, toys, et cetera. Chongyun probably doesn’t know everything, but he’s seen enough journal entries and most likely been shown the relics, and would never dare utter anything to anyone outside his clan, including his closest friends. As far as Chongyun knows, everyone from Khaenri'ah is long gone, he would have zero reason to want to return anything to their rightful owners.

Which is also why Chongyun finds it so easy to forgive the archons for their part in the downfall. To Chongyun it’s ancient history, a tiny black spot in the grand scheme of things. He doesn’t know of anyone who actually survived, not that they’re aware of.

Chongyun spends so much time wishing they didn't have their yang energy and would love to overcome it, that they never once consider that it might be beneficial for other people to just be in Chongyun's promiximity.

What’s one random headcanon about your muse that people mightn’t know? (for both Chongyun and Kami)

i wouldn't say it's not well known, but it doesn't get the attention i WANT it to get. but chongyun has an earring! i really liked drummer!chongyun aesthetic, especially the tassel earring he's got. so, i took that earring and applied it to any verse i shove chongyun into. he has an earring, and i also headcanon that when he and xingqiu traded tassels, they also made sure both tassels were earrings.

chongyun also, blog canonically, has hair long enough to pull into a ponytail. it's not a super long one, but it's long enough that there's enough hair to pull back and keep out of his face! (he also has mini fangs because i said so.)

for kaminari

kami is a HUGE reader. he loves getting lost in a good book. but even further than that, if kami favors a person well enough, and they have a favorite book, his love language is taking that book and getting it rebound to something far more extravagent and beautiful. he probably did that for cyno and cyno's 'king of invocations' book, at least the first one.

kami doesn't show very many ways in which he does care, still having several walls up. but there ARE little ways in which he's like "you mean something to me, have a special edition book."

talking to a friend earlier and we were discussing languages and basically i realized that chongyun can speak two, almost three languages fluently. liyue’s national language, common tongue in order to speak with those in other nations, and chongyun also speaks ancient liyuen. or liyue tongue, i forget what people refer to it as.

but also because of the relics chongyun’s had in their clan for centuries, chongyun also taught themself basic words and phrases of khaenri'ah’s language. chongyun is far from fluent, but they can speak the most basic words/phrases to get by.

chongyun is a sleepy guy.

as often as they torment themself by adopting a nocturnal lifestyle, chongyun also very much values sleep. as such, he can be found sleeping almost anywhere, especially if it's during the day. up a tree, in a corner, behind a building, hard or soft surfaces, doesn't matter.

chongyun is also a heavy sleeper, so good luck waking them.

the plus side is they don't sleep in very long bursts. chongyun will sleep for a couple of hours at a time, wake up for another quite a few hours, before sitting down and dropping off again. it's a weird sleep schedule, but it works for chongyun, and it helps them stay on the go.
