Captions shouldn't be censored. If the video says fuck or cum or cunt the captions should say the fucking word.
YouTube putting a giant black bar that says “CC/subtitles turned on!” that completely blocks all the subtitles for a good 5 seconds is gonna drive me to violence
Hermitcraft 8: Episode 27 [Grian Subtitles 0:00-1:48]
[Start of video] [Subtitles last till 1:48] Note: Making subtitles are hard.
[Blocks are floating up and down]
Grian: Things are getting a little bit bouncy by the looks of things.
The world seems to be pretty much ripping itself apart
and uh
[Grian looks at the moon]
We all know why.
[cut to looking at the sky]
What I haven’t tried to do
is actually get hit by one of these [floating blocks] and see if anything happens-
[Grian starts floating]
Oh- oh? Oooh
[Cut to ground]
See, we’ve got actual damage going through-
[Someone goes to bed]
Sleeping- Who’s sleeping?! No!
Don’t take the moon away!
[Docm77 went to sleep. It turns to day.]
-And it’s gone.
[Another cut. Blocks fall down]
Oh oh oh oh oh- [Attempts to get hit by it]
[Cut]
Agh, just missed it.
[Cut]
Okay, let’s wait for a block to go up.
[Cut]
There’s one right- [Block falls on top of Grian] Ouh!
[Cut]
Okay. Nothing ha- [Grian looks at himself] Nothing happened.
[Grian flies in the sky with his elytra and rockets]
So, what are we gonna do today, beside watching the end of the world?
Look at this.
Look at the damage that’s being done.
[Grian turns around in the air]
And honest- [Grian is slow falling due to the moon] and gravity’s so messed up
that I can literally just float
-and be completely still.
Gravity’s so messed up-
-that I can just sort of sit in mid-air.
[Screen glitches and Grian flashes in and out]
Flashing in and out of existence,
like this is some kind of simulation.
[Cuts to Grian slowly flying into Midnight Alley]
So while we’re slowly floating down-
-waiting for the world to end.
Why don’t we,
Try and figure out how we’re gonna get this done, extremely quickly?
[Cut]
Why don’t we try and figure out how we’re gonna get all of the rest of the interiors done?
[Grian lands]
Because it is, [Grian looks at the camera] interior time.
[Grian looks at the buildings]
I said I was gonna do it last episode,
But I got majorly distracted by the-
um- Wither that somehow- was weird-
-Somehow got left in Boatem
I’d-
Someone’s in trouble.
So.
What we’ve got here is a whole bunch of very,
Very empty shops.
And a whole bunch of ideas submitted by-
-the wonderful audience
[Grian whispers] That’s you guys.
[Cut]
So most of these are actually finished up until about [Grian points to the middle section] this point here-
-So we got the second half of this to do.
subtitles that aren't exactly what the characters are saying word for word are the fucking bane of my existence. i don't think i have major hearing issues but sometimes i have trouble properly processing what the characters are saying and subtitles can really help, but man, the people making them have REALLY gotta stop slacking on the quality. don't paraphrase what the characters are saying, that takes away their personality and speech patterns and makes dialogue awkward and at times overly formal. don't censor swearing unless it is censored in the audio, coward. if a character is speaking another language, then put what they're saying in the subtitles (an additional translation along with the original audio is also welcome but not required). for the love of god PLEASE make the subtitles accurate. if i have to see another subtitle that's just a summary of what the characters are actually saying i think i'm gonna burst an artery
(and also people who put unnecessary unfunny jokes and comments into youtube subtitles that actively make what the person is saying harder to read and takes away from the experience should be banished from typing anything forever i think) (this does not apply to "Markiplier Contemplates A Banana For 5 Minutes")
Hello Good Omens tumblr
So um I put good omens into chronological order on youtube and it took me a really long time (link to playlist here)
And I’m in the process of subtitling it, with the help of @hysterical-mess, and I would really like some more people to help with it. Currently there are 213 videos on the playlist, 16 of which have been subtitled (about 8 of the videos on the playlist weren’t published by me so i cant subtitle them, they were published by prime).
Admittedly, I haven’t been spending every second of every day subtitling because y’know, I have a life to live and school to sit through but there’s no way the process of videos getting subtitled could go slower with more people subtitling!
There is no amount or videos you have to subtitle and if you try it and realise you hate it, you never have to do it again. I would just really appreciate some help making these videos more accessible.
Obviously there is no pressure if you don’t want to, I feel it is quite a niche thing to want to do voluntarily.
You don’t need any experience, hell you don’t need to have gcses, you just need to be able to spell and know basic grammar :D

I'm watching British vloggers on YouTube and I accidentally turned on closed captioning. Watching the internet try to make up words for accent slurs is both hilarious and baffling.
