When I was a kid, I remember being really astounded by the fact that arithmetic is consistent. Like uh, 2 + 3 + 4 is 9. And 9 - 4 is 5, which is 2 + 3, and 9 - 2 is 7, which is 3 + 4! And 7 is also 6 + 1, and guess what, 9 is also 6 + 1 + 2, and even more amazingly, 6 is 4 + 2, and (remember 9 - 4 is 5) 2 + 2 + 1 is 5! No matter what you do it's always consistent, you can't trick it by adding and subtracting some convoluted sequence of numbers until it gives you an answer that's inconsistent with the rest.

When I was first learning arithmetic I remember that I just found this crazy, like, how does it always work out? That shouldn't be possible. And I figured that, naturally, when I got older, someone would eventually give me the answer to this incredibly pressing question. And, well, it turns out nobody has the answer, and they actually proved that it's impossible for anyone to give a satisfying answer. So, that's a bit disappointing.

Here is the secret to fandom:

Give zero fucks about what anyone else is doing.

Seriously.  I mean it.  Because inevitably you will love something that no one else loves.  Or you will love something that everyone loves and people will shit all over it because it’s “so trite and unimaginative and done.” Or you will love something that no one else has ever heard of.  Or you will love something dark and edgy and or obscure and people will roll their eyes and say, “What, do you want people to think you’re dark and edgy and obscure?”

Alternatively, you will not love the thing that everyone else loves, and you will wonder what precisely is wrong with you that the sight of that thing is aggravating the shit out of you now when the whole world sings its praises as one.

People will irritate you.  They’ll irritate you with headcanons that make no sense and misinterpretations of canon.  They will make the same jokes 500 times.  They will overwhelm your corner of fandom with something you either are tired of hearing about or don’t care about.  They will post art that isn’t theirs.  You will meet people who think you are the greatest person ever and bombard you with messages  only to wander off when they find someone new or shinier; you will meet people whom you admire and who do not really seem to notice you exist. 

So give zero fucks about it.  Seriously.  Like what you like, blacklist what you need to blacklist, and ignore everything else.  Be friends, play nice, enjoy it.  And in the meantime, just do you.  Like what you like, love what you love, and to hell with all the rest of it. 

I know I have drawn this shape so often already, but the process of drawing it is so soothing.

And for that, I have drawn a kind of step-by-step guide how to draw that shape in the top of this drawing:

(from left to right: ) [sorry in advance if I make it sound more complicated than it actually is. If you want to draw it, I would advice you to focus more on these illustrations rather than on my gibberish-text.]

1. draw a 2-dimensional Cartesian plane - or, in other words: just draw a cross like depicted

1.1. mark 2 points on the y-axis/vertical line with same distance to the coordinate origin, then mark 2 points on the x-axis/horizontal line with the same distance to the coordinate origin. (The markings on the y-axis need to be farther away from the origin than the markings of the x-axis)

2. connect the 4 marked points like depicted above. This is a function plot of a tractrix. (it has two mirror symmetry axes. )

3. draw an ellipse and connect the two markings on the x-axis. This becomes a kind of "belt" for the pseudosphere (4th picture)

4. part the ellipse into whatever-amount-you-want of partings (like you would cut a cake) and slightly mark these.

5. now imagine you cut that shape horizontally on the outer surface. (In the 5th picture I depicted that with red-ish pen across the pseudosphere. ) -

6. then the cut shape needs to be "(shape) shifted". For that we use a set of marked points we did in step 4). Furtherly, we "cut" the ellipse open, and push one end of it to the top, and the other end to the bottom. (depicted in picture 6 )

7. Then we connect the rest to get that shape:
