max ryan annoys the fuck out of me. i dont know if thats a controversial opinion but man. i get the vibe that his character functions at least partially of a parody of the "retired detective who returns to solve That One Case" character because he feels like such an exaggeration of it. every sentence out of his mouth feels like he's thinking of the best and most dramatic quote to use in a book. just incredibly insincere.

(not a critique of the writing. i think this is how i'm supposed to feel. maybe.)

Indoors, a dark-haired woman leans in close to a man with glasses. She is giving an intense look, and he is frowning. The subtitles at the bottom of the image read: "What's the matter, Scotty?"
Subtitle: "Can't deal with a woman who's not afraid of you?"

so. i love this line.

but i want to talk about her expressions after gideon asks if she's alright:

The dark-haired woman looks to her right, mouth open and downturned.

i dont know. throughout the first season, elle expresses the strongest negative feelings towards sex offenders (reasonable!) and sure, she came from a unit dealing specifically with that and that's her specialty (remember when all the characters had specific skill sets and specialties?) but especially this reaction here seems very personal. and this is pre-randall garner, so she doesn't yet have that connection to being attacked in her own home.

also. the team knows sexual offense crimes are elle's specialty. they know that's where she came from. but her response to gideon when he asks if she's okay after she goes off on scott isn't "i've seen a lot of this and it gets me riled up" it's to get defensive and evasive. if it was anger born of something the team is aware of, why hide it? her response to gideon and her expression afterwards very much read to me as someone hiding something.

elle greenaway obviously you dont have to be a victim to hate sex offenders “i hate sex offenders” is a very normal stance but elle's hatred seems personal to me and again in a way that seems born of more than just her career and then theres the question of why she chose to go into and specialize in sex crimes in the first place to me that implies that that hatred was already there ie. she doesnt hate sex offenders so passionately because she specializes in sex crimes she chose to specialize in sex crimes because she hates sex offenders i would be very curious to know what the planned backstory was for elle had lola glaudini stayed on we get a bit with her dad but throughout the first season i very much got the vibe that there was likely something SA-related in her backstory either her or a loved one not fic criminal minds criminal minds rewatch character analysis I think??? criminal minds s01e15 Unfinished Business tw sex assault favourites criminal minds 1x15
