you hate talking on the phone. you hate how your voice sounds through the other line, how awkward it feels to hear someone's voice near your ear, and the nervousness that you always feel when you see your phone ringing.

you hate it so much and rin knows that, and yet, he still calls instead of texting you. especially when he's away for soccer matches.

you told him that you should just text each other but he insists on calling you, if you try to text him, he won't reply back. instead, he'll bombard your phone with calls until you pick up.

sound effect text can be read “chirp chirp…” “fwoosh” over a black background that gradients into white as wolfwood says, “okay. you can take the blindfold off.” an up close of vash’s eyes opening that leads into a panel made by the shape of his blindfold, two party poppers “pop”-ing. with her eyes obscured by the previous panel, rem can be seen with hands ready to clap as she says, “1- 2-“
black and white trigun fan comic, 13 pages. the page opens up with birds flying out of a tree, a dialogue overlayed, “why is the surprise this far out?” in response, “yer old man knees gettin’ tired already?” in response, “i’m not that… never mind…” a panel shows an up close hand pushing a leafy bush aside followed by a small panel showing the top of vash and wolfwood’s head. it leads into a top down view of the pair walking down a forest, wolfwood holding vash’s hand and guiding him. wolfwood says, “don’t get worn out just yet. we’re almost there.”
text, “happy birthday!” with confetti sprinkled all over and a crowd of people there to greet vash. from left to right: wolfwood is now holding the punisher and is grinning, milly is holding a party popper with a happy smile, meryl is holding one too and more flimsy with it, rem is at the center clapping happily, jessica is holding a present box with a surprised expression, brad is behind her holding a party popper with a grin, luida is next to them clapping, an unnamed ship member stands next to them. in the background, frank marlon is seen sitting and smiling towards vash, more vague figures are in the back, uniforms belonging to those of luida’s ship. a table can be seen at the center, though mostly obscured by the people, with the cake and alcohol.
“vash!” is exclaimed and the panel shows vash’s stunned expressions, blushing and notably caught off guard by the celebration. “knives!” is exclaimed after and vash turns his head quickly in surprise to see knives standing nonchalantly too, wearing a party hat. knives have a darkened piece of hair from the front as per his mid-trimax appearance. knives looks towards vash neutrally and vash looks back, still with surprise before starting to laugh with a “pff” and saying “you look silly.” knives sternly says back, “and you’re late!”
livio is smiling, pointing to the side and saying, “half the cake is gone ‘cuz you guys took so long…” wolfwood in the back can be seen walking away, saying “i tried to rush him.” milly, smiling brightly, says, “the party is still full of life though!” meryl says, “come settle in, vash.” brad hands vash his party hat and says, “here’s your hat.” jessica reaches for the hat and says, “i’ll put it on him!” frank marlon lifts a bottle of alcohol, “yo lightnin’!” gramps from luida’s ship says with a smile, “happy birthday, vash.” luida smiles towards vash, chronica and domina can be seen in the back acknowledging him but not saying anything. figures from july city says, “you never told us bout today!” and “you didn’t tell me you have a bro!” elendira swishing a cup of wine in her hand looks to vash, says “oh? master knives’ brother, welcome.” legato doesn’t look at vash but acknowledges, “you showed up after all…” vash’s right hand is then taken into a smaller pair of hands.
the first panel shows lina is the one holding vash’s hand, leading him and says, “c’mon, let’s celebrate!” the panel is sliced by a hand and a knife cutting and the next panel shows rem plating a piece of cake carefully. at the foreground, there’s the table showing a slice of cake for vash and knives, a fork and knife next to each other. vash and knives are wearing the goofy round glasses with a huge nose and mustache. rem holds up a polaroid photo of the younger twins, seemingly so from their first birthday.
the twins are looking upwards, vash waving with a happy smile while knives looks fondly, also with a small smile. at the foreground, the viewer sees the dependents, vash and knives’ sisters waving back, their wings covering the edges of the canvas. a banner is spread, reading “happy birthday knives & vash”. tesla can be seen amongst them.
milly, meryl, vash, and wolfwood all in one panel, smiling and laughing brightly in celebration. meryl is downing a bottle of alcohol and vash had a shot glass in hand. knives, elendira, legato, midvalley, and hopper are all in one panel. knives is holding a mug in hand, looking towards elendira while she smiles back at him. midvalley and legato seem to be in a small scuffle while hopper is trying to draw midvalley back. the next panel shows the tip of shoes, coming off the ground, with feathers showing on the page. at the bottom, it then shows vash, rem, and knives in the air, vash and knives carrying rem as they both sprout one wing to keep afloat.
rem and knives are sitting next to each other as rem recollects, “it feels like it was just yesterday when you both had your first birthday…” knives responds, “and you’ve gotten less awkward since that party.” rem then immediately pulls knives into an aggressive hug and head pat, laughing as she says, “oh, says you!” to which knives responds with a disgruntled “agh, rem!” she continues, “you and vash learned to celebrate thanks to my awkward party!” this panel is separated from the vash who looks at them with a fond smile.
an up close of vash’s eye, a clear desire spark in them. his thoughts are echoed, “it feels nice. everyone’s here. i want to be with…” as an up close of his boots show him about to take a step towards them before someone from off screen calls for him, “vash!” halting him. the panels have transformed into a leafy foliage, sharp shapes. vash looks back.
in the foliage panel, meryl with slightly longer hair, resembling her post trimax look, looks at him with a small smile and asks, “what are you doing? everybody’s waiting.” “everybody? but…” vash can be seen standing still in greenery, his hair black, with a small growth of flowers sprouting nearby his feet. at the center of the flowers is a lily. the sound effect text reads “chirp chirp…”
vash turns away from meryl, looking to where he was just before. the image has shifted; knives with black hair blowing out a candle stuck on a slice of cake, rem next to him with an excited smile, wolfwood, elendira, and legato also present. conrad and other members of rem’s ship can also be vaguely seen amidst the crowd and as rem pats knives’ head, wolfwood seems to look at the viewer (or at vash). at the foreground, leaves of the lily frames the edges.
not showing his eyes, vash’s reaction is captured in 3 panels; a lingering gaze, looking away but pausing for a moment before finally returning to meryl, saying to her, “thank you, meryl. let’s head back. i don’t want go keep making everyone wait.” the comic draws to a close with vash returning with meryl to the birthday party in the present, milly and razlo holding big birthday cakes with melanie and orphanage kids in the back waving at vash. in the distance in the sky, the home ship flies by, flying a banner that reads “happy birthday vash! we love you!” and confetti is thrown, falling all over in celebration. fin.

I KNEW IT WOULD GET SAD it got me ayways ;; CRYINGGGGG very good comic!!! also idk why but the fact that legato adresses vash as master knives' brother feels like the outmost respect comming from legato cuz like. he would not adress vash just vash. But if he would adress him as vash the stamepede you know that is filled with disgust i guess what i eanted to say is that masters knives' brother feels like really good choice
