C!techno Critical - Tumblr Posts
no but the way sad-ist used technos ‘treat others as they treat you’ speech and turned it on its head to show how it rings true for tubbo; techno executed tubbo during the first festival and tubbo is treating him with the same level of kindness.
Bro I wrote out a whole response and Tumblr deleted it whyyyyyy.
But the gist of it was that despite the fact that that those clips were from so early on, c!Techno does in fact follow that patterns and completes everything mentioned in those clips. Overthrowing the government once, overthrowing it again, and always sticking to the side with the most people to fight. And all of his actions after that always feel like he’s choosing his fights first, and justifying his actions later, or waiting until he has proper justification before doing an unnecessary amount of destruction, but then uses anarchy or government as a way to absolve himself of all guilt and it’s just weird. And I have so many complicated and relevant feelings about this that are a bit wobly so I can’t properly put into words and the unfortunate truth is that I can only properly describe them with “Pink sus.”
this is unrelated but technos relationship to betrayals has always been very interesting to me. it always feels like he sees them coming from a mile away, like deep down he knows his core values are completely incompatible with someone elses and yet. he so often puts it aside, tries not to think about it, sticks by them until their differences become impossible to ignore, "we'll burn that bridge when we get to it",
and yet again once the bridge is burnt he seems to lose his composure every time, as if he hadn't in fact seen it coming from a mile away. he takes it as a sudden unexpected betrayal, because maybe it's even hard for him to admit he saw it coming, he knew it would happen, yet he let himself hope it wouldn't.
he's both so cynical yet so naive at the same time. its a really human character choice.
CC!Techno be like: Bro, why is my character the only one that people blame for the festival???
Me: IDK Techno, it’s almost like these were narrative decisions that have been actively explored in the story already and therefore don’t give people the need to discuss them as much.
Like… I agree that his character is not 100% responsible for what happened. He made a bad decision in an impossible situation. But he’s also the only one who’s character has made no acknowledgement of the actual event. Like c!Tommy, c!Wilbur and c!Quackity have all internalized that guilt in different ways and had added it as a point of contention to their interactions with eachother. It’s why c!Tommy and c!Quackity are more protective of c!Tubbo in certain situations, and why C!Wilbur also made it a big plot point to apologize for it. C!Techno is kinda the only character that didn’t really grow from this as a character? So like, yeah it’s no wonder people are often blaming his character, we don’t really gain anything from blaming the other ones??? Every other character has had their plotline with c!Tubbo culminate in something fulfilling or at the very least made up for it? c!Quackity’s culminated by him betraying c!Schlatt THE NEXT DAY. C!Tommy’s culminated during the disc war finale when he refused to let c!Tubbo be the sacrifice play. And C!Wilbur is on track already with his redemption arc and apology(regardless of whether you believe it was genuine). C!Techno is really the only character holding this incident back from putting a pretty little bow on it and calling it resolved. Which is why people are… kinda rightfully… looking at him??? These characters deserve closure. And we know that c!Tubbo will likely forgive c!Techno for this, I genuinely think he should. But forgiveness can’t occur without an apology.
wilbur, bringing in someone he trusts because they’re stronger than he is and he’s shit at pvp:
tommy, a 16 year old appreciating that in a war he has a reliable older figure to put his trust in:
c!techno: wow you guys only saw me as a weapon also trying to blow people up and never acting on it? fucked up man (scoots the times he actively shot at people, set withers on them, rains tnt on their homes and sicks dogs on them, not to mention the fact he was literally in on wilbur’s original plan to blow everyone up, he literally said he’d set off withers)
wilbur: yeah it was pretty horrible of me for planning it then regretting my actions and going back on them :( i definitely used you and it’s not at all reasonable to ask someone for help for someone stronger in the situation i was in :( it’s not like you didn’t give a shit about me as a person either and completely ignored my shit mental health and was completely on board with my actions until they reflected badly on you afterwards where you denounced me and said i was “evil” despite being just as willing to go along with the tnt plan but also doing far more damage than i did :( but no i said you were the traitor bc we’d planned for you to set off withers when i set off the tnt and lo and behold, there you were setting off withers like we’d planned so im 100 times worse than you :(
It’s the narrative dissonance isn’t it. CC!Tommy and CC!Quackity have set up this overarching theme in the story that revenge is bad because it’s a constant cycle of endless battles that chip away at both sides until there’s nothing left. Which is a great moral! Only for the characters they were… revenging against to continue these cycles completely unimpeached? The whole thing doesn’t just fall flat, it becomes unjust to the characters(and maybe even content creators depending on who this had been discussed with) who are actually putting in the effort. And I love c!Tubbo, and I would love to see an arc where he gets put first and gets to experience character growth over his growing grief, because he’s definitely been undermined a lot. But I can’t comfortably see a resolution for the revengers stream and that’s the problem. Especially with c!Eret’s lore being basically over and c!Techno having gotten away with the whole “violence and revenge are my passtime” thing some 20 times now(I have the slightest amount of hope for this character tho, but not a lot) this stream really feels like it’s only purpose was to get c!Sam to the right place at the right time for his lore with c!Dream. I just really really hope that somehow this is all building up to something that will at least contextualize the whole thing? But I don’t think c!Tubbo’s arc from this stream is meant to go anywhere, which is why it leaves a bad taste in the mouth…
still so pissed that c!Tubbo deliberately trying to put someone defenceless through a torturous agonising death was treated as a #girlboss moment by the framing of the story what the fuck was up with that like no that was an undeniably evil act no matter what c!Sam had done in the past. what the fuck was with the revengers stream in general tbh it’s one of the biggest examples of protagonist-centred morality on the server and it’s so fucking frustrating like why is everything the revengers did in that stream framed as good and moral when they caused so much unnecessary harm like yeah saving micheal was an undeniable good but that doesn’t make everything else they did ok!!!
i didnt wanna be critical this morning but sometimes you just wake up like this
i think the thing that frustrates me about some (not all i know some people wanna see funny pig man blow shit up and i respect that) techno apologists is that they don’t see anything anyone else says with nuance and take everything techno says as the truth. they’ll go into techno’s choices and morals and how he truly cares but is hurt all the time, but they be like “tommy says ‘blade’ tommy bad.” like i saw tommy’s line about “the discs being worth more than you ever were” used as proof that tommy dehumanized everyone and like,, tommy so immediately regretted and didn’t mean that, as evidenced by the fact that the very next thing he did was tell tubbo to give dream the disc. he even said he was becoming someone he wasn’t and didn’t want to be. people jump through hoops to defend every action of technos but literally dont peer into any other characters any deeper.
no other character gets viewed with this certainty of being Absolutely Correct All the Time. when wilbur was lashing out believing that “nobody was on their side” and trying to blow up l’manburg, nobody viewed this as a good thing. when tommy was committing his minor acts of terrorism notably with connor and fundy, these were not good things. when jack manifold and niki are planning to kill tommy, this is not a good thing to do. all of these characters were hurt but, “that doesn’t doesn’t excuse their actions” and they “shouldn’t take the fucked up shit that happened to them on other people.” (these are quotes from when tommy was apologizing to the people he hurt)
techno commits major acts of terrorism, takes multiple canon lives, and declares that “the only universal language is violence” but someone everyone wants to act like he’s justified and the victim?
techno gets to say “you wanted power. you wanted to be the hero” to tommy who just gave up the presidency and shouted that “im not the hero. no ones the hero” and everyone just takes that? he gets to say “i would have fought the world for you” like twenty minutes after going “hell no i won’t fight dream for you”?? he gets to answer tubbo’s accusation of “doesn’t that make you a tyrant yourself?” with “the ends justify the means” like What the Fuck Dude??
techno is hurt and techno is Wrong about how he sees tommy and the other members of l’manburg (ex-members whatever) he is not right when he says that tommy “the horse brothers!” “if there was a hug button, i’d press it” “all i’ve ever wanted was to be called your friend” innit only saw him as “the blade.” he is not right in saying tubbo “i just want everyone to get along” underscore is a tyrant. he can be wrong. that’s okay. other characters are. tommy is so wrong all the time and i wrote this stupid ass essay to go to bat for him. tommy wants to use an evil egg for capitalism purposes. i say “i dont support your actions and i want better for you, but go funky little raccoon boy.” treat techno the same.
I saw post saying "when techno 'im gonna blow up l'manberg' blade says you're going too far, you know it's bad" in reference to c!tommy and hm true
yes, that was the point of the bedrock bros team up arc?
like the point was that when c!tommy was being enabled and encouraged to embrace his anger and be violent, he went too far? when c!tommy came to the realisation, after he’d told c!tubbo the discs were worth more than him, that “he’d become worse than everyone he’d hated” - that was because he was on that path? that by hurting others to get revenge for how he’d been hurt, it made him a worse person?
that’s why it was so important for him to leave c!technoblade while also reasserting that it didn’t make him any less worthy as a person, because he chose to not hurt people. and he began apologising to the people he’d hurt and work to be a better person, seeking out help (therapy), seeking closure and moving on (the reason for the prison visit).
“i was hurt but that doesn’t excuse me hurting others” plus him rejecting c!dream’s narrative that everyone is a hero from their own perspective thus justifying any and all actions they’ve committed - those are lessons learned because he’s seen himself become someone he didn’t ever want to be.
the point of that arc was to show that you can try and break the cycle of violence if you want to.
so yes, c!technoblade saying that c!tommy went too far is important because it underlined how unhealthy it was for c!tommy to be with c!technoblade - he became a worse person, which means what happened afterwards (c!tommy leaving c!technoblade and realising how much hurt he’s caused, and apologising and working to get better) is even more important than that one line.
i still cannot get over the fact that nobody, both in and out of universe, talks about the scene during the green festival right after c!tubbo gives c!dream the disc. to recap, dream goes on an extensive rant calling tubbo an idiot and the worst president l’manberg has ever had. he says ‘i don’t care about you, i’m not your friend’ (remember up until this point dream had been peacefully visiting l’manberg, and tubbo states multiple times before this that he thinks that dream trusts him). he also reinforces the long-running idea that tubbo is a yes-man, and he says, and i quote, “l’manberg is weaker than it’s ever been, and it’s all because of you”. this entire time, techno chimes in saying things like ‘tubbo sucks!’ and ‘tubbo’s a coward!’
that entire tirade was just CRUEL. like, just hard to watch, almost. it was just 5 minutes of tubbo being completely berated, and of course he just sat there and took it.
and it’s had marked effects on tubbo! even during the scene itself, after one of the times dream calls him a horrible president and says he’s ‘ruined everything’, tubbo simply replies “yeah. i know”. and then he keeps repeating this rhetoric later- one specific scene i can think of is right after doomsday where tubbo, in conversation with quackity, said that he thinks he was the worst president l’manberg had ever had and that he was even worse than schlatt (a LITERAL DICTATOR).
we can even bring this into discussions of tubbo being terrified of techno. a lot of people like to bring in that the execution wasn’t really techno’s fault, and even without opening that can of worms, that doesn’t mean that techno has done nothing to tubbo! getting repeatedly called an idiot and a coward and just frankly insulted personally would not make me have a stellar opinion of someone.
i just find it crazy that nobody talks about this scene or its impact on tubbo, because to me it’s one of the saddest tubbo-related scenes there is. i don’t understand how people can defend c!dream and c!techno on this one lol
would you mind elaborating a bit more on the c!phil and c!techno post? not saying you’re wrong in the least, it’s just an interesting opinion I haven’t seen before! I was curious about the reasons?
*waddles in* okay im finally back from class and have a real keyboard to use for this yeehaw
to keep my feelings brief cuz im aware im biased- inniter both proud and shameful ✊😔- there's a trend i've noticed about certain types of content recently that has some symmetry to what was going on at the beginning of the year. but unlike those few months ago, most people seem to be reacting positively to today's stuff
the bedrock bros arc in particular had a lot of discourse surrounding it, especially after the mutual betrayal. many c!tommy fans would rightfully point out how it was a lil eff'ed up that c!techno kind of sort of lied to c!tommy about his real intentions and was dodgy when c!tommy tried pointing out how that's not what he wanted to do ("we'll smooth out the finer details later" or w/e the quote was)
in response, it felt like a cacophony of people claimed how techno was his own character, that he didn't need to be some random kid's caretaker, to the point that the whole "characters shouldn't be judged by how they treat c!tommy" take was created
nowadays i'm seeing c!rivals duo material come out of the woodwork like a flood. a lot of people want c!dream to join the syndicate, have him heal out in the tundra with c!techno after the piglin breaks him out of pandora's vault and away from his torture
now, there are quite a few reasons why i and many others aren't a fan of this idea, but this post is about how c!techno shouldn't be reduced down to any character's therapist! he has his own plotlines with his own motivations, certainly, those same people will at least point out that c!dream fans want a similar story that c!tommy fans did back in december and january, right?
😐
then there's the man the myth the legend c!philza himself, coining the title schrodinger's father for a good few months. with the canonicity of the sbi family dynamic being somewhat wonky (not deconfirmed however), people split harshly into two categories: those who liked the idea of c!phil still being c!tommy's father, and those who very very very much did not
regardless of people's true opinions on the matter, c!tommy fans (fairly) pointed out that c!phil destroying the kid's home right in front of him was a little messed up. c!phil was canonically aware that c!dream was up to something funky, yet he still went through the idea of teaming up with him to raze l'manberg into the ground, which stung c!tommy enthusiasts a little. who wouldn't be just a smidge butthurt about something like that happening to their fave?
like clockwork, lots of people criticized and even outright bemoaned this train of thought. c!phil isn't even c!tommy's father who cares! he certainly doesn't need to, stop making everything about the kid! y'all just have daddy issues and are projecting tbh 🤪
now back to the prison arc, we yet again return to the potential plot of syndicate!dream, where he'll be best buddies with c!emerald duo and c!niki will spoonfeed him while he recovers (yes this is a /srs headcanon i saw) and c!ranboo will just have to "get over" his fear of c!dream to see they're actually best buds (another /srs comment someone made yes that is word-for-word what it said)
essentially, someone in discord shared a tweet that was basically talking about the idea of c!techno shoving c!dream into c!phil's lap saying "here, be a father whether you like it or not" and, well, i got somewhat peeved if that untagged post i made is anything to go by
it's starting to feel more and more like people didn't actually care that others were writing c!techno and c!phil in caretaker roles, they only cared that c!tommy was the one being taken care of. because c!tommy is apparently the literal spawn of satan and is the worst thing to happen to the dsmp and is super annoying and blah blah
but instead of, idk, admitting that c!tommy just wasn't their fave and moving on from content they didn't like, they needed to create these excuses about how it was actually super awful that these fans were doing things like this, that you should feel bad if you support this kind of content because you are ruining these characters and everything they stand for
nevermind that this kind of stuff has been a normal occurrence in fandoms since fandoms have been a definable thing, that while yes it gets annoying how certain characters are favored above all others literally all you're achieving by tearing down someone else's work is that same person either A.) making more of that stuff out of spite or B.) potentially quit making stuff for the fandom altogether
it's just... it sucks, that it feels like you can't want anything nice for c!tommy without it getting called "ooc" or being accused that you only watch his POV and make everything about him. maybe i'm sensitive, maybe im extrapolating, but i wouldn't be the only one who is, considering i've seen multiple others voice similar feelings regarding this situation
so there we have it i guess. my brief words that ended up not being brief at all (so sorry dear anon, i really did try to keep this down to one page at most :headinhands:) and i hope they make at least some partial sense, now i gotta go read even more random shit for my hw fsndkfjndf save me /lh
