Darkened Railroads - Tumblr Posts

He’s just a little lost.
(This was just supposed to be a what if, but I had too many ideas so I’m making it an au. I’m calling it Darkened Railroads.)

I decided my brain was taking way too long to cooperate with the reference sheet, so have this doodle.
(Toothpaste Boy now means ‘guy who stops Susie from doing something reckless and\or stupid’ here.)

Obligatory starting area consisting of narrow platforms in the void and a single obstacle that is also a decoration sometimes.

(Couldn't’ finish the text before moving and I‘m paranoid, so I’m posting the reference sheet and the bits of rough drafts I’m happy with enough to post and edit them later.)
While his tunic and turtleneck are mostly the same, his coat and hat were temporarily both repaired and altered by the dark fountain(s?).
His weapon-type is a flute, his starting weapon is a powered up version of his Celestica Flute. (called The Star Flute, because it sounds like star fruit) His starting armor is the wooden cuff (obviously his warden bracelet)
The hair stripe is actually a stylized version of a scar. (both the zoroark and uxie theories are in this au, the legends website does say that Hisuian zoroarks’ illusions cause madness)

I've finally decided on how Pokémon will work in dark worlds.
Originally, they were just going to be neon colored (based off of what we see of the annoying dog being identical to its appearance in Undertale), but that seemed a bit boring to me. So I decided to treat them like lightners, the only difference being that they're a lot more uniform.
Chandelure was supposed to have tear like designs under her eyes, but that got scrapped for a few reasons;
1. The normal tear shapes where a bit too reminiscent of prison tattoos, while there are some interpretations of their meaning that fit there are others that aren't so pleasant.
2. I felt that circular marks that resemble tears like those on sobble felt a bit too out of place.
3. It was a bit too character specific. While the only chandelure that will appear in Darkened Railroads is Ingo's Chandelure, I already stated above that I wanted the forms for pokémon to be uniform.

Eelektross' dark world form.
It's coloring is based on a dragon fish. (I know it's one word but auto correct is being stubborn.)
I burnt myself out trying to get more done without posting what I've finished. Using more work to procrastinate is not good.

Gliscor dark world form.
This was actually the second form I worked on but I decided once I was done that I wanted to get Eelektross' out first, even though I hadn't even started on it then.
Based on how some scorpions glow under black light. Looks a lot like the shiny.
I had to add filters over everything but the eyes because it was minecraft diamond teal and It hurt my eyes. It's still pretty close, but nowhere near as obnoxious as before.

Joltik dark world form, based off of a rainbow peacock spider.
I'm actually going to work on comic pages now.

Once again, I'm posting something else because I don't like the rate of progress of the main stuff I'm planning.
This time, instead of having a clear inspiration, or winging it, I decided to start with a preset pallette and work from there. The specific one I used was 'Icy Gradient' found on Canva.
I want to mention that the tail is not part of the form itself, but just how I draw Sneasler's tail. I like her design, (Which isn't saying much because I have dirt poor standards when it comes to Pokémon designs, but just keep in mind that the worst opinion for me is usually "that's cool.") but the tail just looks too awkward. I actually subconsciously forgot what her tail looked like for awhile, and thats how my mind filled it in.
The markings were something that was floating around in my mind for about a few months before I posted the Chandelure's design. Just simply, what if there was just a little bit more differentiating the nobles from the rest of their species than being bigger, and markings were what seemed to make the most sense. Of course, this is just a dropped idea being revived purely for the purpose of being combined with a newer idea. A normal sneasler would look the same, just lacking the markings.
Some sketches of The Fun Gang's current equipment at the end of chapter 2 and the start of Darkened Railroads.

Like Joltik, Galvantula's dark world form is based off of a rainbow peacock spider, although much more literal.
I added the dark silver because some features blended together too much without it. I'll probably end up redoing the design for joltik, and add that color in then.
The main problem with Joltik is the fact that I was trying to push myself through burnout the entire time, alongside not yet having learned some things that were definitely needed.
I'm definitely much prouder of this.

Excadrill's color was inspired by construction vehicles, especially CAT vehicles.
The black was turned into a dark yellow-brown, so it won't blend into the background.
