Okay so here are my goofy headcanons for Matsuda in this new cringy self-insert fanfiction I'm writing:
He watches romance dramas. Like, a lot.
Bro knows the entire Boys Over Flowers lore.
He was a HUGE Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan. (He still is.)
He makes me pay all the bills.
Breadwinnereater.
He sucks at Math- in fact, he is embarrassingly the worst police officer at Math by the record.
He hates spicy food, and would NOT survive in the wilderness with a bag of chilis (why did I even write that that doesn't even make sense).
Bro is permanently unable to cook because bro burns everything.
He puts milk before cereal and spills the cereal everywhere.
He literally yanks leaves from the branches during Autumn time because he wants it "fresh".
He loves long calls.
Loves karaoke and drinking. A LOT.
He bought me B-grade salmon when I wanted A-grade salmon because there "was a discount" that day.
Has a bad habit of leaving the toilet seat up and not flushing so I need to yell at him for it.
Is still an idiot.
Okay but imagine Russian Matt... I totally headcanon that his voice is lower when speaking Russian (Like mine is) but like... a loooot deeper. I could see him jumpscaring people by speaking Russian in that low voice.
He also would totally curse in Russian around Roger to fuck with him.
idk why ive been thinking about the wammys boys' ethnicities but here are my headcanons simply based on their names or my own gut instinct

Sorry this took so long I was busy with school work 😭
When they met:
The start of things:
They meet in college when she sat down next to l for the first time, she thought he was a little strange for the way he did things and his clothes but he thought she was also strange for her extremely elegant moves and clothing after the first class L introduced himself to her and she did the same thing back but he recognized her name and immediately knew thanks to his high intelligence he asked her about it and she said that she was a princess and wanted to learn more so she came to Japan and after that they became found if each other when they realized they were both just as weird
(I’m not sure if you wanted friendship head canons or relationship ones so I made both)
Friendship:
Every time L has some food he would offer some to her at first she would decline but then she started to accept his kindness
if she didn’t know how something worked or the answer to a question L would often help her and that would start a long explanation that she honestly enjoyed
She asked L about himself which honestly mad him happy but he made sure not to tell her a lot of things about himself
He often is suspicious of people but it took him a shorter time to trust her because she was just that amazing (lol sorry to cliche)
They started getting a lot closer and became the first friends they both ever had and it’s a sweet one
After a while of trust L told her that he is a detective and works on cases constantly he thought you would not like that but you didn’t mind it and told him you understand how busy he can be
After that L would just ask her the most random questions “how many servants do you have? Do you have a castle?” Just a lot of questions about her royal heritage but sometimes he can ask too many things 😅
L would sometimes joke around with you or always be spittle strange but he will always respect you and care for you
So he starts helping her get used to the customs and give her a lot of information about everything and everyone (he’s just trying to be helpful it’s sweet)
In return you told him things about your life and what you are used to answering as many questions as you can
Your friendship would be very sweet though
Relationship:
After being friend for a while you asked him out trying to be as neutral as possible he stopped whatever he was doing and just blankly stared at you he then said a soft “yes” and that was the start of it all
No matter how busy he was he will always try to make time for you and you will try to do the sam back of course
You would probably try to change his wardrobe and may or may not fail 😅
Honestly I feel like it would take him a while before he felt like he was ready for a kiss on the lips like the moment you kiss him he is frozen in shock and might say something like “wow I think I really love you”
You thought what he said was really sweet and softly thanked him neither of you have ever felt that happy before
He hangs out with you a lot in fancy places all the time and tried to give you things you like all the time
He is very observant of you to see what you like and don’t like so he can keep it in mind for the future or to get you a cute present for events
Honestly you would should probably just give him sweets he will love you for it and ask if you wanna share say yes this time I think he will be really happy about it 😊
Honestly L gives me asexual vibes and I don’t even know how he would act if he ever had the chance to have sex so I’m going to just leave that blank unless someone requests it 😅

I like to imagine that there were several times when Light was working with L that L said something like "Hey Kira" to try to catch Light out.

How would a wholly genderbent deathbote be?
I've been thinking about this ever since this comment (thanks btw :D) I think that judging by the misogyny in the source material I think it could go two ways.
1. Minor changes
The shinigami woukd stay the same but Naomi probably wouldn't have left the FBI. Raye would still be on that mission in Japan though. The plot would ultimately be the same.
2. (SPOILERS) The ending literally changes
Trying not to read too deep into this but I think this option is less likely but still probable. Light and L's rivalry would be the same, Near would work with the FBI but Mello may not even get onto the Mafia. Even if he did Takada would probably have never been kidnapped and Light might even end up winning, because it was Takada's kidnapping that literally directly led to Lights loss.
Of course it would probably change nothing but its interesting to me that even just a change of gender can completely change how a story ends simply due to stereotypes and ideals. I'd love to expand on this in a longer piece but that will have to wait until I can type a little better :D

Death note headcannon:
Mello is severely lactose intolerant and that's why he's always in a mood
Light baking a cake for L but he swaps the salt and sugar measurements and when everyone on the taskforce thinks its an honest mistake he goes to his room smirking and laughing 'They dont suspect a thing, L. They play right into my hands. It's only a matter of time before I win.'
Light is the type to ask questions that have no good answer.
Does this sweater make me look good?
All answers are wrong, if you say yes he's mad bc he looks good no matter what. If you say no you are insulting his fashion sense. If you don't answer, how fucking dare you.
Headcanon: L actually enjoyed matsuda's presence as a person more than most of the task force. L mentions that he is childish, and he is. Matsuda is also very childish (ex. "I feel like a secret agent going after kira!") And of all of them I feel like L is more connected to Matsuda. (Willing to call him stupid despite knowing there are cameras that he'd be able to see) they just give childish buddies. Matsuda is the silly childish one and L is the competitive childish one.

He enjoys gentle affection way more than rough love. Gentle hugs or forehead kisses are always welcome.
He doesn’t fall in love easily. In fact I would put him into the Aromatic spectrum. Only for the fact that he’s too focused on being the greatest detective of all time.
It took him some time as well to notice he loves you. Around 2-3 years to be exact.
He had some people seeking his love, but he never responded to any of them.
He’s probably the smartest man alive so sometimes you feel dumb next to him. (Sometimes he reassures you that you’re doing great)

His full genuine laugh is so contagious… it’s really rare, so rare that no one besides you and Watari heard it before.
