In this the smiling critters were made not as toys but as actual experimented animals with a conscious transfer with selected candidates. How the factory selected the unfortunate was by secretly observing them throught playing,every day life at the orphanage and tests(could be personality too).
These all determined which orphan specifically would match the certain Critter mascot they can merge their consciousness with an actual animal body.(Of course they all start out with younger bodies.) The scientists have to train the critters in their spare time to behave well and fulfil their duties.
They at first were used as a special party birthday mascots before when they were a bit older handing them out proper care duties.

Am i the only one who thinks poppy playtime chapter 3 was just puzzle playtime? Bro i have complicated feelings about this chapter especially after waiting for 2 years idk
I agree. We got like, tidbits of lore about a lot of things we already knew, but everything new is just fragments. Poppy says that she’ll explain everything, makes some vague statements, and then tells us to go. While I like the platforming and its puzzles are clever, I feel like it’s about 85% of Chapter 3.
Exactly! Even tho i liked the idea of the new puzzles and mechanics they were just all over the place. There was so many puzzles to do that made me lose my interest in what was going on. Like i said i dont hate the idea of the new puzzles they were actually great but there was so much of them. Even the bossfight with catnap was just weird. I was expecting at least a chase sequal from it but nope. Also like you said poppy didnt even do shit this chapter other than just talking for a couple minutes than go wait with kissy. I understand the idea of kissy not liking the place so she doesnt wanna go which is totally valid but for poppy idk. No new lore bits no new anything about the story even the last casset was something we knew. We knew the toys rebelled against the humans thats why theres not a single fucking human left in this whole factory. I'm sorry, its just making me a bit pissed off with what they did knowing the potential they had and i just keep rambling at this point 😅
