Designer Toys - Tumblr Posts
Here’s a proper overview of what I am currently working on. The biggest things are sculptural ocular tripod creatures, the intended result of which you can see above, and a number of ball-jointed dolls; the dolls are currently in the planning stage. Outside of that, I have a couple of figurines, and some fanart projects for fun and to give me something to practice techniques or processes on. All in all, more updates as progress is made.
The “to be molded” shelf in the studio, also known as “Don’t touch it stupid, you’ll break it”
Progress update. I had a figure break overnight yesterday, made worse by it falling off the shelf. So a lot of my studio time has been repair lately.
Successfully casted the first prototype cast of my customizable blank. I miscalculated the amount of resin, but it worked as a proof of concept. This figure is called Nopperabo, or No-Face.
Prototyping mechanical joints for designer toys.
The Four Humours (Fradingle, Rombombo, Joodoop, and Spough). Hand carved wood from abandoned buildings in Northern England reclaimed, sculpted, painted, and given a personality.
Here’s the finished prototype for my figurine of my Weirdo character, in ever glamorous primer gray. I had a photography day.
Newer better photos of my Council of Animals nesting doll set.
There’s still time to sign up for my summer class, but not much. Classes start June 12th, and I will be covering the history of art dolls and designer toys, as well as how to create your own and cast multiple editions in resin. More information available at the Western Colorado Center for the Arts website.
I am so proud of my students.
Went to @myousa’s doll and toy making workshop this summer, cast myself the beginnings of a tiny robot army. A robot posse, if you will. Resin figures painted with acrylic.
They are: CrownBot, EyeBot, and Prototype.
(Prototype is the original sculpey sculpture. His arms have broken many times. He is angry.)
