How characters from Diabolik Lovers would be toxic in a relationship?

Note: I am making a part 2 for the toxic characters, but because I’m putting most of the Diabolik characters. I made it a separate post. Also mentions of NSFW and direct abuse!

From a young age, his mother pressured and abused him, so Ayato doesn’t know how to love properly, meaning he’ll act cold and cruel to you. He has a superior complex and is an attention seeker, looking down on you as he bullies and teases you. Ayato expects you to praise him and to see him as yours truly. He gets jealous easily when you spend time with his brothers or let them have a taste of your blood. Expects you to do his bidding and spend time with him whenever he asks. Saying no will cause him to lash out on you. 

He turns brides into wax dolls and talks to them. Any wrong move could lead into your demise. No one is more paranoid than Kanato. He assumes a relationship between you and his brothers when they talk to you or how you don’t love him anymore just because you don’t greet him. His mother never paid much attention to him when he was young unless she used his voice. He’s touch starved, but he hates being touched and touching him without his permission will cause him to lash out in anger. His outbursts are the worst thing in the relationship as they’re sadistic and violent.

He’s very handsome and seems sweet to which he uses his appearance for advantage. Kou is a sadist; he enjoys seeing you in pain; physically and mentally. He always expects something in exchange, even when he knows you’re honest. The biggest problem with Kou is his personality switch, he’s a ticking bomb. One wrong move and Kou can change from being sweet and cheerful into this vicious person who no matter how much you beg for forgiveness will cause you harm.

It’s easy for us to assume Yumi as a rebellious soft teddy bear, but it’s not anything like that. His parents abused him, then got burned alive, and Yuma joined a gang, living on the streets. Because of this, Yuma is sadistic and very easy to anger, he’s nowhere soft. With Yuma, you have to be careful with your words and actions otherwise you’ll know the consequences from the hard way. He can go into a rampage and might kill you in an accident. Yuma is also a pervert, it’s a terrible idea to stay alone in a room with him.

He confuses love with lust because his mother sexually abused him. Laito cares about sex more than any aspects in a relationship. Telling him you’re tired or not feeling the mood will not stop Laito and he will not need consent to do what he does. In bed, he will experiment with many positions and kinks. There is no such thing as a safe word. Just because Laito is cheerful and jokes around doesn’t mean there’s not a hidden side to him. Without you knowing, he’s clever and charming, able to manipulate you in any way he wants to. 

In the Sakamaki family, Subaru is the best one to date (which says something). Although he may control himself around you, it still doesn’t change the fact that he’s violent and if you provoke him enough, Subaru might lash out on you. The many walls he punched warn you about angering him. Subaru is suicidal, a loner, and is very tempered, all combinations that make it hard to be with him. He has emotional baggage, lots of it. His own mother called him filth, making him distrust those around him, especially women.

He burned down an entire village just to kill his brother’s best friend out of jealousy. Reiji appears to be polite and mannered, but he’s ignorant, prideful and a sadist. Reiji demands perfection, he observes every act and word, wanting you to be the perfect lady/gentleman. Acting unmannered, talking or glancing at Shu, even showing too much emotion will make him punish you. Reiji has a list of rules he expects you to follow and memorize it. Even if you did your best to strive for perfection, he’ll still demand more and berate any of your flaws and imperfections. 

As a young boy, Ruki enjoyed abusing other people until his mother left him behind. His mother’s abandonment made him develop trust issues toward women. The adults in the orphanage branded him like cattle, causing him to grow up and treat you like livestock. He found amusement in this because for one you’re human and two because Ruki is sadistic. He expects you to behave and speak in a certain way. Speaking up or rebelling against him will cause harsh punishments.

We all know Shu seems lazy and disinterested in everything, so if you’re looking for someone who’ll make an effort in a relationship, Shu is not the one. He struggles with PTSD and depression. It’s not expected, but Shu is an open pervert. Don’t sleep out in the open or wear clothing that’s slightly revealing if you don’t want Shu to grope you. He’s also a sadist. Shu will cut you just to taste your blood, to see if it tastes better when you’re scared. 

In the Mukami family, Azusa is the character we all go for (that also says something). He can be clingy and sweet, but Azusa is also a sadist and a masochist, one to the extreme. He enjoys hurting himself and for others to hurt him too. Because of this, Azusa expects you to do the same. Azusa will show his knife collection and suggest cutting you to make you feel good. Even if you’re a sadist/masochist, Azusa takes things too far, it makes sense since he’s a vampire and you’re a human. But, if you don’t stop Azusa, you must eventually tend to a deep wound.

Shin looks down on everyone except his brother. You’re human, a creature always seen beneath him. Even after many years of being with Shin, he’ll always remind you of your place. Being a sadist, he seeks pleasure in your pain and suffering. As you’re on your knees, crying and begging him, many will feel sympathy, but not Shin who loves torturing you. With Shin, you’ve to be used to his pranks, they’re anything but harmless. He also loves to humiliate you, making you feel insecure and never enough; he thinks it’s funny when you look all hurt by his words.

In relationships, you must see each other as an equal and have respect. That’s not the case with Carla. In Carla’s eyes you are underneath him and will always be underneath even when he loves you or grows to care for you. Carla breaks any ties you have with anyone other than him. Sometimes it seems impossible not to go mad from all his torture and seeing your breakdown disgusts Carla. He enjoys torturing you because he’s sadistic and also enjoys humiliating you from your manners to your appearance.

Hylia - Diabolik Lovers OC Introduction

Physical Description

Hylia is a British/Japanese 24-year-old living in the Sakimaki mansion. She is 5'6", has slightly wavy platinum blonde/white hair, gray-blue eyes, many piercings on both ears, and has a slim/hourglass figure. In terms of fashion, she tends to wear knitted sweaters and button-up shirts paired with slacks in earth tones (cream, beige, forest green, chocolate, etc.) and understated gold jewelry. However, on days she is not working and staying home, she wears warm matching pajama sets, typically in floral prints.

Personality Traits

Born a Libra, she is a hopeless romantic, empathetic, and appreciates thorough communication. Upon first meeting her, she is quiet, understated, a bit cold, and tends to be more of a wallflower in social gatherings (think of a kuudere/dandere hybrid). But, around the right people, she is a poised, intelligent and analytical woman and is able to hold her own.

Education/career

Up until the end of middle school, Hylia attended school in London, England and had a growing fascination with science. She finished high school and received her masters degree in pharmaceutical sciences in Japan. She does work at a nearby university specializing in medical sciences, but also has her own study/lab in the Sakamaki home. Her career is focused on the development and safety of potential new medicines, both in hospitals and in drug stores.

Favorite foods

Though she is from England, she never liked the food very much. She found it to be boring. After moving to Japan, she absolutely fell in love with their cuisine. Particularly, she is fond of katsu curry, sushi, matcha, and everything sakura-flavored during Hanami. Hylia also has a small caffeine addiction and never says no to an iced coffee, no matter what time of day.

Relationships with the Sakamakis

Hylia is in a committed relationship with Shu and they're both very happy. He stays close by her, even while she's working in her lab. He has his own couch loiter on nearby her main work station. He stays close both to protect her and make sure his siblings don't toy with her as they please. He loves to remind her of who she belongs to...

She often interacts with Reiji, as he also has a lab and a vast collection of books she borrows as reference material in her studies. Though Shu and Reiji have a strained relationship, Shu doesn't mind these interactions. It's strictly professional, and Hylia does not dare stay long enough to entertain Reiji's fantasies.

Hylia finds the triplets to be annoying and tries her best not to interact with them for very long. Of course she is polite and respectful, as to not anger them or cause a scene, but she has no problem making it very clear to them that she is not someone to be trifled with. Out of the three of them, she tolerates Ayato the most, but only slightly more. At least he doesn't make constant sexual comments like Laito or creep her out by simply existing the way Kanato does.

Subaru sees Hylia as the older sister he never had and secretly looks up to her and respects her. Sometimes, he will visit her lab and pull up a chair and watch her work. With Shu's approval, of course. Though its never been made clear to her why he observes her, she doesn't mind it. She can see his shoulders and facial expression relax while he watches, so she's just glad to see a calmer version of Subaru. Additionally, when she had asked Subaru why he comes to watch her work, he shyly looked away to hide the blush across his cheeks and shrugged. He usually stays until Shu decides to kick him out so "she can work."

you can’t tell me that this man isn’t bisexual. he clearly has a bisexual energy, everyone can agree.

i feel that he’s more into big girls and big guys ( yes i’m talking about yuuma ). he just loves it.

we all know that he likes to look at the girls who pass in front of him, but once he looked at a man and he was like "damn."

i don't think he has a particular preference between men and women. he loves both equally, romantically and sexually.

for his gender i think he's cisgender man, but he doesn't care what you call him or what you use for his pronouns. he, she, they, xem, use whatever you want, just don't disturb him while he listens to his music.

⊹ ˖ ﾟ. REIJI SAKAMAKI

the first time i saw reiji, i said to myself " this man is a homosexual " and was i wrong ? i don’t think so.

i couldn't really explain why, it's just an energy that comes out of him.

because of his father, he has always imagined himself ending his life with a woman that his father chose for him to continue the lineage, even if he is not attracted to her. ( denial is a river in egypt, your husband is gay ! )

i don't have the impression that he is really attracted to women ? of course he finds women attractive, beautiful especially in corsets, but it’s a purely aesthetic attraction.

i think reiji’s type would be a person like Ruki. He has good manners, intelligent, strategic, sadistic, a handsome and charming man with a bratty temperament.

for his gender i would say cisgender or demiboy.

he/they pronouns for sure.

i like to say that ayato is the definition of a cisgender heterosexual male, but actually i think he is bisexual.

he has a preference for women, but he can't stop looking at men.

every time he finds himself looking at a man's tits for a second too long, he turns his head sharply and acts as if nothing had happened. ( *cough* yuuma *cough* )

to come back to his gender, i think he is cisgender man. but i had seen once the headcanon of someone who said he was a trans man ( ftm ) and i really like this headcanon !

⊹ ˖ ﾟ. KANATO SAKAMAKI

for me he’s unlabeled ,kanato is attracted by pretty people, feminine, with delicate features, who look like dolls ,preferably smaller than him ( he’s insecure by their height do not judge them )

gender doesn't really matter to them.

for his gender, they’re non-binary ( or maybe genderfluid ) kanato has never really fit into the male gender stereotypes, either by his personal interests or by his physique. ( they uses he/they pronouns )

compared to his brothers, they’re short, slim, feminine face with big eyes, not very "masculine" looking. he doesn't give a damn, he wears what he likes and identifies himself as he wants, if people don't agree with him, then die.

the gender or sex of the person does not matter to him, he sleeps with everyone, kisses everyone and flirts with everyone.

but i like to think that laito is asexual.

cisgender man, but he likes to see himself more like a concept or a disaster ( twins 🤞🏻)

at first i would have said cisgender heterosexual man

he is mainly attracted to women, but sometimes he can't help but wonder about men.

when he sees a pretty boy, he starts to question his sexuality ( *cough* kou *cough* )

for his gender i would say a classic cisgender man with he/him pronouns

but subaru is the biggest ally ever. he will never tell his brothers but he will always defend their sexuality and gender.

she gives me mainly bisexual cis girl vibes.

for me, she’s the kind of person who finds women more easily pretty than boys, or just says to herself when a pretty girl passes by " oh ! she is very pretty"

i think she doesn't realize her attraction to women. for her, it's not a romantic or sexual attraction. she’s in denial because of the environment she grew up in.

she’s like " do i want to be like her or do i want to be with her ? "

sometimes she wonders why her heart was beating so fast when her classmate gave her such a soft smile. but she tries not to wonder too much.

but i like to think that she’s a lesbian 😞 ( i just want her to go away from the diaboys and get married to a woman please )
