DDS 2? and That's Catch 22 spoilers... i guess???
I think it's pretty obvious that I LOVE talking about O'Brien and I appreciate that TC22 exists as a prequel to the events of the game, it tells you more about the characters (mainly the protagonists, who are O'Brien and Sheffield).
I have only been able to read loose pages of the first part due to my school occupations but I have been able to infer a few things about O'Brien.
In one part it mentions about his nationality, that he is clearly Irish-American and the fact that he is somewhat discriminated against for being half Irish (TC22 is set in 2014 and according to a friend, by that time the hatred of the Irish in America had gone down) and that he had to say that his father comes from a centuries-old bloodline of British Irish for his genetics teacher to agree to tell him something (I don't remember what it was).
Let's see, his teacher refuses to tell him that since his surname is of Irish origin, and that's because after the death of O'Brien's younger sister, his mother took custody of her oldest son after divorcing her husband.
It's also mentioned that O'Brien's paternal family hates him and his mother for being Irish, I don't remember anything ever being mentioned about his father, but based on that I've come to think that O'Brien doesn't have a good relationship with his father because of that very thing.
I feel that he is more fond of his mother, that is, he himself says that he chose to use her last name.
Something I like to infer is a religious trauma he might have after the death of his sister, somewhere it is mentioned that he has a grudge against God for this very thing, although he blames himself for her death and takes responsibility for it.
Something I also like is how most see O'Brien as a social recluse, being that he is really someone who has been through a lot and the stress he has is gigantic. The trauma that his sister's death left on him led him to become more closed off and reclusive. I feel he's lost a lot of social skills.
I have also added the headcanon that he's autistic but I need to work more on this and that he was emo during his teenage years but that was an intrusive thought I had

-sera’s childhood (or lack there of) was likely super sheltered especially once she was selected to go talk to god so she’s probably fascinated by the existence of a lot of things. while the embryon didn’t want her to ever get involved with combat, she did take up a bit of interest in firearms, being surrounded by them and all. not even on the actual combative end—she just likes the craftsmanship.

-tbh cielo’s death hit me the hardest. the line about wanting to see sera’s beautiful smile again is just. permanently embedded into my mind. but it also gives me the idea that he’d constantly try and get her to smile or openly encourage it and aughhhhhhh
-sera and cielo are under constant supervision from gale. always. they’re basically inseparable.
-they low key gossip with one another. it’ll first be sera questioning something then it evolves into he said she said territory.
-cielo would be insanely interested in the world. sera’s the most familiar so she’ll talk to him about say the existence of plants.

this one image is how i view their entire relationship for no reason aside from in a perfect world where terrible stuff didn’t happen. they’d go to each other’s houses and play with toys and make pillow forts and watch movies and have a very fun time.

The only thing I could say is that people would be deficient in Vitamin D bc they weren't exposed to the sun.
You know what makes me sad is that both Satomi Tadashi and Yu Godai didn't give us enough info about underground city and life there. Idk but for me it's interesting how people live without sunlight for 5 years in harsh conditions and how their small community survives, what people do there besides being completely hopeless and depressed.
